2019 Jeep Renegade problems
The Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Stellantis under their Jeep marque. It was first shown to the public in March 2014 at the Geneva Motor Show and production started in late August of that year. The Renegade was the smallest vehicle currently marketed by Jeep, until the arrival of the Avenger. It slots between the Avenger and the Compass. It is based on the FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform which is also shared with other FCA models, including from Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands.
The Renegade came standard with front-wheel drive, with optional four-wheel drive systems Active Drive I and Active Drive Low, both of which are paired with Jeep's Selec-Terrain System.
Overview
The Renegade is the first Jeep product to be produced exclusively outside of North America and has been sold in the North American, European, Brazilian, South African, Australian, Japanese and Chinese markets. The vehicle is built in Melfi, Italy with the designation BU/520, alongside the related Fiat 500X; Goiana, Brazil with the designation B1 (alongside Jeep Compass and Fiat Toro); and in Guangzhou, China codenamed BQ.
Standard Renegade models come with front-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available on Sport, Latitude and Limited trims. In the US, the lineup consists of Sport, Latitude and Limited trims, all of which come with a choice of front- and four-wheel drive, as well as the Trailhawk trim, which is 4WD only.
The Renegade has an available My Sky dual-panel removable roof. The My Sky can be either retracted like a standard sunroof or removed completely for a more open-air experience, similar to that of the Jeep Wrangler.

Common 2019 Jeep Renegade problems
The 2019 Jeep Renegade has been reported to have several common problems that owners should be aware of.
Another common issue is coolant leaks, which have been reported at around 40,000 miles. This problem is caused by coolant lines eventually splitting and coming loose from the radiator due to heat cycling in the engine. Replacing the coolant lines can cost around $300, depending on local labor rates.
Issues with the power driver’s seat have also been reported by some 2019 Renegade owners at roughly 50,000 miles. This problem is caused by the seat motor wearing out as the SUV gets older, and can cost around $600 to fix.
There are three recalls on the 2019 Jeep Renegade, which cover the occupant restraint controller (ORC) and the rearview camera. These issues are similar to other small SUVs from the same year, and Jeep will replace the affected parts for free.
A well-maintained 2019 Jeep Renegade can last around 175,000 miles, but regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other compact SUVs on the market, at $478 per year.
Some owners have reported excessive oil consumption, which has been attributed to the 2.4L Tigershark 4-cylinder engine that powers the Renegade.
Overall, the 2019 Jeep Renegade has several common problems that owners should be aware of, including dead batteries, coolant leaks, and issues with the power driver’s seat. These problems are similar to other small SUVs, and can lead to average repair costs as the Renegade ages. However, a well-maintained Renegade can last around 175,000 miles, and regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other compact SUVs on the market.

- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: 2019 Jeep Renegade 4WD 65,000+ Miles at the time of repair, the Renegade was initially brought into the dealership for shaking and rattling noise from the front-end engine area. The dealership service inspection found the fan blade cracked and missing pieces and the fan was unbalanced, and recommended replacing the cooling fan assembly. Once they replaced the coolant fan motor and removed the front fascia, they found trans cooler lines leaking at the cooler joint and recommended replacing the cooler and lines. After all the parts arrived and with an oil change, the total invoice was over $3,000. The component that failed/malfunctioned is the cooling fan assembly. The vehicle in its damaged state was said not to cool and cause engine damage. The dealership confirmed the problem. The dealership inspected the vehicle. There were no warning lamps, messages, or any notifications of the problem it was brought into the dealership due to the sound/vibration of the engine. This fan issue is similar to the recall on all 2015-2017 Jeep Renegades that was issued after a lawsuit was dismissed because Fiat Chrysler (FCA US) offered to replace the cooling fans for free or reimburse Renegade customers for engine cooling fan repairs. I've been reaching out to the dealership for assistance, but I keep getting the runaround. Additionally, I purchased the top-tier insurance warranty, but now I'm hearing a ticking sound.
Hector Kuphal 2024-11-12
At 122,000 miles, the engine of my vehicle died while I was on a high mileage job. Despite having an extended warranty, the dealer is reluctant to cover the cost of repairs. I am now faced with a difficult decision: either spend thousands of dollars on a new engine or continue paying off a 14K loan for a car that is no longer drivable. As a 66-year-old who has owned at least 17 cars in my lifetime, I have never encountered a situation like this before. However, I am confident that I will find a solution that works for me and my needs. While I may not purchase another Jeep in the future, I am determined to make the best of this situation and move forward with confidence.
Lenny Fadel 2024-07-19
I recently purchased a brand new Jeep Renegade, but unfortunately, I experienced some issues with it. The day after I bought it, some things on the dashboard started beeping and flashing nonstop. It took me a while to get my car into the shop, so I had to listen to the beeping every single time I drove. When my car was in the shop, they called me to pick it up, but unfortunately, the issue was not resolved. After two months, I finally got my car back, but during that time, my car got hit in the parking lot, so now it's technically been in an accident. I've had some problems with this car, which seems to be a common theme among other Renegade owners. However, I'm hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon. While the car doesn't have much space, it's still a great car to drive. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a reliable car.

Just wanted to let you know that if the check engine light comes on, you won't have 4WD.
Percival Lakin 2024-04-04
This car seems to have had a lot of issues in the 3 years that I have owned it. From engine lights to problems starting the vehicle, I have had to replace the whole ignition and deal with throttle issues. Unfortunately, I have not had a good experience with this vehicle and I do not recommend Jeep as a brand due to these deficiencies. It may be best to consider other options when looking for a new car.
