2007 Honda Element problems
The Honda Element is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Honda and marketed in North America over a single generation for model years 2003–2011 — and noted for its boxy exterior styling with bi-parting side doors and its boxy, flexible interior layout.
Manufactured in East Liberty, Ohio, the Element used a modified second generation CR-V platform with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. By late 2010, shortly before its discontinuation, production had totaled approximately 325,000.
Overview
The Element followed a concept called Model X which was developed by a core group of Honda R&D engineers in 1998 and debuted at the 2001 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Model X was designed as an activity-oriented vehicle combining features of a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle, and its styling was inspired by a lifeguard station, its roofline arched to evoke the curve of a surfboard.
Noted for its four bi-parting side doors that open to provide a clear aperature of 55.5 inches, the structure of the Element eliminates the B-pillars by reinforcing and enlarging the side sills, floor and roof cross members, and providing five bulkheads per side. The rear door structure have a reinforced vertical beam and, when closed, connect to the body side sill via a hook and catch system, effectively creating a B-pillar. The rear-hinged rear side doors can open only after the forward doors.
The production Element debuted at the 2002 New York International Auto Show with an interior featuring TPO-coated textured urethane flooring; stain-resistant fabric; individually reclining and removable rear seats that stow.
The four-cylinder i-VTEC 2.4 Litre K Engine produced 166 hp (124 kW) at 5800 rpm and 162 lb⋅ft (220 N⋅m) of torque at 4000 rpm for 2007-2011 model years and 160 hp (119 kW) at 5500 rpm and 160 lb⋅ft (217 N⋅m) of torque at 4500 rpm in 2003-2006 model years. Drive is either front-wheel drive or optionally, all wheel drive — via a hydraulically actuated on demand system that engages with front wheel slippage, marketed as "Real Time 4WD". The Element has a towing capacity of 680 kg, or 1500 lbs and a gross weight of 4450 lbs (2018 kg).
In 2007, the Element won the Dogcars.com "Dog Car of the Year" award because of its "versatile cargo space, easy-clean flooring, crate-friendly rear design and optional 4 wheel drive." and in 2010 it won the "Small SUV" category as a "Top Safety Pick" in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Annual Awards.
With projected first year sales of 50,000, the Element sold 67,478 units in 2003 in the US. In 2010, just over 14,000 were sold. According to a 2003 survey, 67% of buyers were over 35, 38% were women, and the median age was 42.

Common 2007 Honda Element problems
The Honda Element, produced from 2003 to 2011, is known for its reliability and practicality. However, some model years have specific issues that potential buyers should be aware of.
For the 2003 and 2004 models, the most significant problems were related to the key, engine, transmission, and electrical system. Many owners reported issues with the key not fitting into the door locks or the ignition, as well as multiple engine, transmission, and electrical system problems. The 2003 model had more severe issues, with the key being one of the most complained-about problems. The 2004 model had fewer engine problems but still had issues with the windows and interior build.
The 2007 model had a unique problem with gauge needles falling off, which could be dangerous if left unattended. This issue occurred around 80,700 miles, and repairs could cost up to $1,400.
For the 2008 model, paint-related issues were common, with several owners complaining about car paint chipping at around 38,350 miles. This problem was usually caused by the SUV's clear coat layer.
Additionally, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) warning light on some 2003-2007 Honda Elements may turn on due to a faulty seat belt wiring harness. Replacing the faulty wiring harness can fix this issue, but if the warning light is illuminated, it's crucial to take the vehicle to an auto repair shop for proper diagnosis, as it may indicate a problem with the airbag system.
In summary, potential buyers should be cautious when considering the 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008 Honda Element model years due to these specific issues. Regular maintenance and inspections are essential to ensure the longevity and reliability of any vehicle, especially as it ages.
What can go wrong with a Honda Element?
If you want to keep driving your Honda Element for a long time, you'll have to resolve any issues as soon as they pop up. Engine oil leaks, differential fluid breakdowns, and faulty door locks can all interfere with your Element's driveability, even with its high reliability rating.
How many miles can you get out of a 2007 Honda Element?
How long do Honda Elements last? According to getjerry.com, you can expect to get 250,000-300,000 miles out of the Honda Element. It's one of the sturdiest cars available and taking excellent care of it could boost it to survive even past this average.
How strong is Honda Element?
For power the Honda Element has a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine, rated at 166 horsepower and 161 pound-feet of torque.
Why did they stop Honda Element?
Why did Honda Motor Company stop making the Element ending with the 2011 year model? Actually, it wasn't that nobody bought them. In eight years of production from 2003–2011, Honda sold 325,000 Elements. If anything, that increased Honda's need to discontinue the "box".

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-12-12
- VIN: 5J6YH28777L
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: RECALL ON THE VEHICLE IS FOR A FAULTY WIRING HARNESS FOR THE TRAILER HITCH. MY VEHICLE HAS A TRAILER HITCH AND WIRES INSIDE THE VEHICLE, BUT APPARENTLY THE HITCH ISN'T OEM, SO "IT DOESN'T MATTER" ACCORDING TO NELSON HONDA AT 2500 GREENSBORO ROAD, MARTINSVILLE, VA 24112. HONDA WOULDN'T HAVE INCLUDED THE VIN UNLESS IT HAD THE PART THAT NEEDS FIXING, BUT THE DEALER REFUSED BECAUSE IT DIDN'T MATTER FOR MY CAR. IF IT DOESN'T MATTER, THE RECALL SHOULD BE CLEARED FROM MY VIN, BUT I SUSPECT THEY JUST DON'T WANT TO DO THE WORK SINCE THE HITCH ISN'T OEM BUT THE WIRING STILL IS. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE HITCH WASN'T THERE'S SO IT WOULDN'T MATTER, BUT IT'S THE LIGHTS/POWER CONNECTOR. THE ONLY REASON I DIDN'T PURSUE THIS ORIGINALLY IS BECAUSE I'M NOT TOWING ANYTHING, HOWEVER I EXPECT THIS TO CHANGE IN THE FUTURE AND I'M HAVING OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE DEALERSHIP IN NOT VERIFYING PARTS I PURCHASE SEPARATELY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO USE (VOIDING RETURN POLICY) SO THAT I HAVE TO BUY THEIR PARTS INSTEAD.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-11-08
- VIN: 5J6YH28707L
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: I WAS JUST DRIVING MY 2007 HONDA ELEMENT TO WORK IN THE NORTH END OF SEATTLE, AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY VEHICLE STARTED JERKING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, VSA AND STEERING LIGHT CAME ON THE "TRIANGLE WITH A LIGHTNING BOLT IN IT" IT STARTED RUNNING ROUGH. WHEN I WOULD STEP ON THE GAS IT WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO JERK AND THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD IDLE UP AND DOWN. IT WAS VERY INTENSE. I WOULD LIFT OFF THE GAS PATEL AND TRY TO LET IT SMOOTHIN OUT. IT DEFINITELY IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW A RECALL ON THE 2007 AND 2008 HONDA ELEMENT, OVER 68,000 OF THEM. I WENT TO HONDA OF SEATTLE AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WASN'T A RECALL, I THEN TOLD HIM TO LOOK ONLINE AND HE TRIED TO TELL ME THAT MY CAR WASN'T COVERED. HE STARTED TO QUOTE SOME NUMBERS OF WHAT THE DIAGNOSTIC WOULD COST AND THEN THEY WOULD GO FROM THERE. I THEN TOLD THEM TO RETURN MY VEHICLE AND BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC. THE TOTAL COST TO FIX WHAT HONDA WOULDN'T EVEN THOUGH IT IS A RECALL IS $450.00. THIS IS UNFAIR AND HONDA NEEDS TO MAKE THIS RIGHT!
TIRES PROBLEM

- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2001-2007 Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2001-2004 Honda Civic GX, 2003-2005 Honda Civic Hybrid, 2002-2006 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, 2006 Ridgeline, 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2003-2006 Acura MDX, and 2002-2003 Acura 3.2TL vehicles. - Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. - Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
- Summary: Honda is recalling certain model year 2007 through 2011 Element passenger vehicles equipped with an accessory trailer hitch wiring harness. The wire that supplies power to the trailer turn signal lights was inadvertently switched with the stop lamp wire. As a result the turn signals only illuminate when the brake lamps are illuminated. This does not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Consequence: Without trailer turn signal illumination, the driver's intent is not communicated, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The safety recall began on September 20, 2012. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.
- Manufacturer: HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)
- Summary: HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.
- Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.
- Remedy: HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.
- Manufacturer: HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
- Summary: HONDA HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 AND 2008 ODYSSEY AND ELEMENT PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY 28, 2006 AND AUGUST 21, 2008. AIR CAN ENTER THE VSA MODULAR PUMP DURING AN INITIAL SELF-CHECK PROCESS THAT OCCURS SHORTLY AFTER EACH TIME THE ENGINE IS STARTED. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ENOUGH AIR TO ENTER THE SYSTEM TO RESULT IN A BRAKE PEDAL THAT FEELS SOFT OR LOWER TO THE FLOOR.
- Consequence: IF THE OWNER DOES NOT HAVE ANY BRAKE SERVICE OR MAINTENANCE PERFORMED OVER A PERIOD OF MONTHS OR YEARS, THE SYSTEM CAN CONTINUE TO ACCUMULATE ENOUGH AIR TO AFFECT BRAKING PERFORMANCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNER AND HONDA DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VSA MODULATOR BY REMOVING ANY EXISTING AIR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM THEN APPLY SEALANT AND CAPS TO PREVENT AIR FROM ENTERING THE BRAKE SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 3, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

THESE LAMPS DO NOT CONTAIN THE REQUIRED AMBER SIDE REFLECTORS.
- Consequence: DECREASED LIGHTING VISIBILITY MAY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
- Remedy: DOPE, INC. WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND OFFER A FULL REFUND FOR THE NONCOMPLIANT COMBINATION LAMPS. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 28, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DOPE, INC. AT 1-626-272-1798.

Honda reliability and quality are clearly evident with the Honda Element. The suspension provides agile handling for such a high-profile vehicle, and acceleration is smooth and responsive at virtually any range. The overall driving experience is excellent, with agile car-like handling. Every minute behind the wheel of this Element makes you like it more and more. This Element is much more than transportation; it is a lifestyle companion that adjusts to any need, whether transporting the family for weekend activities or carrying large objects for weekend home projects.

We decided to upgrade from our 2006 Civic to accommodate our growing family. Although I had considered the Element before, I wasn't a fan of its appearance. However, Honda has really outdone themselves with the SC model.

I chose the EX model because I didn't want carpeting, just something I could easily vacuum and wipe down with a sponge. The EX features are definitely worth the extra cost over the LX, with its map light, arm rests, stereo, and more. In Florida rainstorms, the AWD is a lifesaver. I carry lots of gear and the back end can be configured in many different ways. I absolutely love the feel of this car. There is a bit of road noise, but the sound system in the EX drowns it out. While I would like better mpg, I still get 19cty and 24hwy. I highly recommend fog lights and the optional console for extra storage space. However, I must say that I'm not a fan of the sunroof. There should be a sliding cover to keep out the heat, especially in Florida where my backseat passengers are cooking! I plan on getting extra heavy tint for that. Overall, I highly recommend this car and would definitely buy it again.

Congratulations on your new car and puppy! This car seems like the perfect fit for your furry friend, with its convenient back door that allows you to give treats without any hassle. It's great that you can take your dog on adventures with you, whether it's running around locally or going on a road trip to Colorado. It's impressive that this car runs so well and is half the price of a Lexus. As a tall person, it's important to have enough room in a car, especially during cold weather. It's great that this car has enough space for you and more. The washable interior is a practical feature, and the durable seat covers sound like a great addition. It's amazing that you were able to transport lumber without even needing to use your trailer. This car truly seems like a practical and fun vehicle!

I bought this car to replace a truck and a mini-van. It has exceeded my expectations! Not only does it drive like a car, but it also has the utility of a truck and the comfort has surprised me. I have used it for so many activities, from family vacations to football tailgating, commuting, hauling large items to the dump, taking the dog swimming, and even kayak fishing. I am excited to go camping in it this spring! It is without a doubt the most useful and fun vehicle to drive and own that I have ever had!!!

I love my Honda Element! This is actually my second one. The only issue I've had is that the master brake cylinder went out after about 29,000 miles, but it was under warranty. Interestingly, the same thing happened with my 2004 Element. It's possible that there's an internal leak problem in the master brake cylinder that Honda should look into. Overall, though, I'm a big fan of my Element. Thanks!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I've had it for three years and driven it for about 32,000 miles, including a cross-country trip and a year in Montana. Overall, I think it's a great car with solid and smooth gearbox and a very good turning radius. The build quality is excellent, and I've had no problems with the engine, just regular maintenance. However, I did have some issues with the 'realtime' all-wheel drive and cargo capacity. Although marketed as a young adventure vehicle, the gross payload of 600ish lbs can be limiting, especially with four people. Additionally, the AWD was slow to react to slipping wheels, which caused some sliding on spinning wheels. Lastly, I'm not sure about the point of the tilt sunroof. Thanks for listening to my experience!
