2018 Jeep Compass problems
The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover SUV introduced for the 2007 model year, and is currently in its second generation. The first generation Compass and Patriot, its rebadged variant, were among Jeep's first crossover SUVs. The second-generation Compass debuted in September 2016 in Brazil and at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November 2016, sharing a modified platform with the Renegade. It is positioned between the smaller Renegade and the larger Cherokee globally or the Commander in South America.
Concept
Four years prior to the introduction of the production Jeep Compass, a concept vehicle with the same name had its world premiere in Detroit at the 2002 North American International Auto Show. It featured a two-door body, all-wheel drive and a 3.7-liter V6 engine.
The 3.7 L Power-Tech V6 engine from the Jeep Liberty was not available in the new Compass for 2007, though the production model Compass kept the concept car's styling cues and some of its features. The production model Compass also had four doors instead of the two doors on the concept car.

Common 2018 Jeep Compass problems
The 2018 Jeep Compass has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include excessive oil consumption, the engine shutting off while driving, and the electronic parking brake turning on while in motion.
Excessive oil consumption is a widespread problem in the 2018 Jeep Compass, with many owners reporting this issue around 25,000 miles. This problem is caused by the failure of multiple seals in the engine, leading to the engine burning oil. In some cases, the engine can burn roughly one quart of oil per thousand miles, which is significantly higher than the average for most vehicles. This issue can lead to expensive repair bills, with some owners having to replace the engine entirely, costing around $6,000.
Another common problem reported by 2018 Jeep Compass owners is the engine shutting off while driving. This issue has been reported in the first 10,000 miles of ownership and can be caused by various factors, including computer issues, electrical problems, and spark plug failures. The cheapest solution to this problem is updating the computer, which typically costs around $100. However, other solutions, such as replacing the alternator or spark plugs, can be more expensive, costing around $600 and $400, respectively.
The electronic parking brake turning on while in motion is another problem reported by some 2018 Jeep Compass owners around 30,000 miles. This issue is caused by the ABS module failing early in these SUVs, leading to strange brake system issues. Replacing the ABS module can cost around $800, depending on local labor rates.
In addition to these common problems, the 2018 Jeep Compass has also been subject to six recalls, including issues with the engine oil pump, lower control arms separating, and the voltage regulator failing. Jeep has offered to replace these parts for free on affected models.
These common problems with the 2018 Jeep Compass can lead to expensive repair bills and decreased reliability. Therefore, potential buyers should be aware of these issues before making a purchase decision.

- Summary: I bought this car in 2018 with minimal miles on it, since then I have had nothing but issues with this car. Currently my oil cooler is leaking and at a mechanic shop because the closest dealer is an hour in a half and they tried to pull a fast one on me last time and I had to call corporate to report negligence. I have had to replace the -Navigation system since the screen went black and would only show writing -start stop relay -Starter relay -Both batteries -The wire from the batteries to the engine -Currently in the shop for my oil cooler leaking -Had to have my breaks bled which the mechanic did for free because he was pissed off at the breaking system -And Currently have an airbag light on. When looking up the year of my jeep is shows alot of the recalls that relate to my cars issues. At this current time I can't get the car to a dealership hours away that tried to squeeze money out of me for no reason, and otherwise my engine is going to blow and that's not ideal. My car has less that 75,000 miles on it and issues started around 30,000 miles. I need assistance because my car should have been added to the recall list and it wasn't resulting in alot of money coming out of my pocket. I do have photos but it will not allow me to upload them.

I had to get it towed when it did it on the highway. The dealership said it was the batteries, we had those replaced. It was fine for about a week and then started doing it again. Took it again and now they are saying it is the alternator or the starter. Both of those were checked and it isn't that either. I now have a car that I am paying for and can not drive. Called Jeep customer service, they could not find a solution. Multiple people on multiple different forums are complaining about this same issue without being able to find a solution.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-15
- VIN: 3C4NJDBB6JT
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: My 2018 Jeep Compass Latitude has had issues with the backup camera not working properly. It is NOT included in the recall for the 2022-2023 Compass with the same issues. The screen display will only show a black screen with "Check entire surroundings". When I was leasing, I took the vehicle to the dealership a few times for this issue. The backup camera was replaced in 2021 but it continued. It froze up as I was leaving the dealer so the tech got to see what was happening. He said it was was something in the wiring. Again It worked for awhile BUT the black screen returned and NOW sometimes the camera will appear as if it is on delay (freezes). The dealership said they would not replace or repair what they have already fixed under warranty. If you wiggle the wiring leading from the trunk into the car, the camera may come back on. Once you wiggle the wires you have to gently close the trunk but if you open it you have to repeat wiggle then shut gently. Lately it appears more of a delay when camera is on which is a major safety issue. The camera shows that it is clear when actually it may not be. I was pulling out of a parking spot when the camera was on delay. Thankfully I was able to avoid an accident when a car was approaching. However something is preventing the image from appearing on the screen which decreases visibility and increases the risk of a crash. It resembles "buffering" when it is "delayed". Since there is an exact issue as well as a software update for newer Compass models, this recall and fix should also include my 2018 Jeep Compass. Please add the 2018 Jeep Compass to this recall.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your new 2018 Jeep Compass Limited (All 4)! It sounds like it's been a great fit for your family, and I'm happy to hear that you've had zero issues with it. Thank you for recommending it to others who may be considering a smaller family SUV. It's always great to hear positive feedback from satisfied customers like you!
-
I'm glad to hear that your Jeep has exceeded your expectations! It's great to know that the ride, road noise level, and handling are exceptionally good for a 4WD vehicle. It's also impressive that you're getting a combined 29 MPG and that it does a good job towing your river boat with the factory towing package. I agree that the ability to configure the dash to see the information you want is a great feature. It's good to hear that the engine has plenty of power. I understand your concerns about the fuel panel being on the passenger's side and the autostop feature being mostly useless for you. It would be great if it defaulted to inactive or allowed you to set it to default to inactive. I'm sure it can be annoying to remember to turn it off every time you get in the vehicle. It's good to know that the automatic transmission is getting better as it is breaking in. I'm sure it takes some time to get used to it, especially since it's a little different than what you're used to. It's interesting to hear that the tranny actively uses the engine to help slow the vehicle when going downhill. That's a great feature that can save you from using the brakes too much, even on steep hills. I understand that the limited storage up front may be a change for you, especially coming from a RAM 1500 truck. Overall, it's great to hear that you're having fun driving the vehicle and that you haven't had any maintenance issues so far. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
-
I've been driving the Jeep Compass Limited for a month now, which I purchased from Jeep Freehold. I must say, the service at the facility is excellent and professional. Darrell Williams, my dealer, is an excellent listener and always addresses my questions and concerns. The car drives great and is smooth on the road. The interior and exterior design is perfect for someone who is looking for an SUV feel but not a huge one. Although the car's fuel economy could be better, it's a sacrifice most of us have to make when purchasing an SUV. The car feels great to drive, as it feels like you're driving a sporty heavy-duty car, but it drives so smoothly. I opted to lease the car because I can't see myself owning it for the long-term, primarily because of its poor fuel economy. The car comes in several trims and upgrades, which you can customize based on your liking. Overall, I'm happy with leasing this car as I was looking for an SUV with a nice interior and exterior design.
-
The interior of this car is very stylish and made with quality materials, giving it a great feel. The exterior looks are also impressive, and the ride is very smooth. While the interior space is decent, it could benefit from more power, but the 180hp I4 engine is sufficient if you're not a speed freak. Overall, I am very impressed with this car and could see myself purchasing it after the lease is up.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the Compass so far. I specifically looked for a manual transmission because I'm not a fan of the Auto Engine Start Stop feature and I've heard some negative things about the 9 speed auto. I'm happy to report that I've had no issues with my Compass since picking it up at the end of August. It feels really solid and well-built, and the interior materials are high quality with no squeaks or rattles. The 4x4 system works great in the snow, and I've had no issues with it. I'm getting around 22 mpg with mixed in-town and highway driving, which is pretty good. However, I do have one complaint - the lack of storage. It's surprising that a modern vehicle like this doesn't have more storage options, especially with Apple Car Play. Where am I supposed to stash my phone? The small net pocket on the passenger side is a bit of a joke, and I can't imagine what someone with an iPhone X would do. Also, there's no sunglass holder, which is a bit of a pain. Lastly, I was surprised that there's no garage door opener, especially since this is a Latitude. Despite these issues, the Jeep drives really well with electric power steering and feels well planted at high speeds. One thing to note is that the 2.4 Tigershark does use oil, so it should be checked once a month. My engine has used 1.5qt in 3000 miles, but I think it's due to the new ring design on the pistons and the required 0-20w oil. Overall, I'm really happy with my Compass and would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and well-built SUV.

Our 2018 Jeep Compass has unfortunately required multiple visits to the shop, including its current stay due to a recurring issue. Despite efforts to resolve the problem, the car continues to enter limp mode and displays warning lights. We have not received satisfactory assistance from Jeep or the dealership. Based on our experience, we do not recommend purchasing the Compass.

I recently purchased a car from Spitzer Motor City Brookpark Road and unfortunately, I have had a few issues with it. I noticed water seeping into the vehicle right after I bought it on August 9th. I contacted the salespeople, but since my sale was already complete, I was no longer a priority. I brought the car in for service on August 28th and the HVAC box was replaced. However, when I got the car back on September 6th, I noticed more water. I scheduled another service appointment for September 10th, but unfortunately, the problem has not been resolved yet. I am hoping for a replacement or refund, as I am not satisfied with the quality of the vehicle. I regret not sticking with a trusted brand like Honda. I would caution others against purchasing the Compass. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The 4 wheel drive has a major design flaw and the blue tooth on the radio has a poor connection. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the 4x4 system. The first time it happened, I was driving in the snow and heard a loud banging noise coming from under the vehicle. The dealer attempted to fix it, but two weeks later, the same issue occurred again. This time, they informed me that it is a known problem with the rear axle engagement with the 4x4 system that causes the driveshaft to strike the undercarriage of the vehicle. They told me that there was no repair available yet, but it was safe to drive. However, two days later, the issue happened again, and this time, the rear axle locked up, causing me to lose control of the vehicle and nearly miss an accident. At the moment, the dealer is working with Jeep to find a solution, but unfortunately, the part of Jeep that handles Lemon law has been unreachable. Despite this, I believe that Jeep is a great brand, and I hope that they will stand behind their product and find a solution to this issue. It is also worth noting that this problem is currently occurring on a second Compass at the same dealer.

After purchasing this vehicle, I unfortunately experienced some issues with the transmission. Despite being towed to the nearest dealership, it spent an extended period of time in the shop. Even after receiving the vehicle back, I noticed a loud grinding sound while driving on the highway. Despite Jeep's insistence that it is 'operating as designed', I test drove a different one and found that it did not make the same sound. As a result of this experience, I have decided not to purchase anything Mopar again.

I purchased my Jeep in March 2018 and within three days of driving it in the snow, I heard a loud banging noise from underneath the car. I immediately contacted the dealership and they asked me to bring it in for inspection. They informed me that it was just ice. As a resident of northern Michigan, I rely on my car to perform exceptionally well in the snow. Unfortunately, I had to take it to the dealership three more times for the same issue, and each time they told me that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. I decided to purchase a new car that would be better suited for the winter, but to my dismay, the same issue persisted. I am now stuck with a Jeep that is not reliable throughout the year, especially in the winter. The car had only 20 miles on it when I first got it, and now it has 5500 miles, but I have had nothing but problems with it. The car stumbles over itself when I accelerate, and it lacks the necessary power to overtake other vehicles. Additionally, the car shakes and thumps when I brake. I have had my brand new Jeep in the shop more times than my old car (2007 Sebring), but they have yet to fix anything. I regret my decision to buy a Jeep and will never purchase one again.
