2020 Jeep Compass problems
The Jeep Compass is a compact crossover SUV introduced for the 2007 model year, and is currently in its second generation. The first generation Compass and Patriot, its rebadged variant, were among Jeep's first crossover SUVs. The second-generation Compass debuted in September 2016 in Brazil and at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November 2016, sharing a modified platform with the Renegade. It is positioned between the smaller Renegade and the larger Cherokee globally or the Commander in South America.
Concept
Four years prior to the introduction of the production Jeep Compass, a concept vehicle with the same name had its world premiere in Detroit at the 2002 North American International Auto Show. It featured a two-door body, all-wheel drive and a 3.7-liter V6 engine.
The 3.7 L Power-Tech V6 engine from the Jeep Liberty was not available in the new Compass for 2007, though the production model Compass kept the concept car's styling cues and some of its features. The production model Compass also had four doors instead of the two doors on the concept car.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-22
- VIN: 3C4NJCCBXLT
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: This issue has been happening sporadically over the last couple of years, but it's starting to happen more often. When driving normally, the check engine light will flash, a message "Coolant temp too high" will appear in red, and the car turns off. Sometimes it will turn back on immediately and drive fine, other times I have to leave it turned off for up to 2 minutes. This happened to me twice on my drive to drop off my kid at school, and on my way to the office, on a busy highway during traffic. All maintenance has been done on time, and there are no error codes when I get it scanned. I get met with shrugs and "could try ..." I see others have been having similar issues, so I am going to post here as well.

- Summary: I was driving home and got an error message that the coolant temperature was too high, even though the gauge showed it to be right in the middle at the normal level. The car then locked up and I was unable to turn the steering wheel for a terrifying few seconds. The car then restarted itself and I was able to drive home. a while later, I tried to start the car and it would not start and kept giving me the error message that the coolant was too high even though the gauge shows the level to be The very bottom of the temperature on the cool side. I checked the coolant levels and they were a little low so I added more coolant up to the max level and waited a few hours. Then I tried to start it again and it still will not start. Additional error messages are now popping up, including saying, the emergency brake needs to be serviced. I am going to have to get it towed into the service shop tomorrow.

- VIN: 3C4NJDCB5LT
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: At first my car would only display the “Coolant Temp Too High” message if I came to a complete stop, and went again.. or if i would go over a certain speed. At that time, i could pull over, turn it off, wait a few minutes, and turn it back on and i could watch my coolant temp drop drastically. It has progressively gotten worse to the point that i cannot drive the vehicle longer than five minutes without it overheating. I do the same thing, pull off and wait and turn it back on. It starts to go down a bit, however, as soon as i pull out and begin to drive it, it starts to raise back up immediately. There have been times where the message will display as soon as i turn the car on in the morning.. Please help me. I am a young college student and I have not been able to drive my car for over 6 months. We have changed the thermostat, flushed the coolant, checked for leaks, replaced the radiator cap, and water pump. I don’t know what else to do..
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-05-17
- VIN: 3C4NJDAB8LT
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: Yes, I bought a brand new 2020 Jeep Compass North Edition from a Wisconsin dealer in June 2020. I drove across country to Utah where I know reside. Had no problems on that trip. About 10 months later I started experiencing a "High temp coolant" light come on and the vehicle shuts off and locks up. Very dangerous while driving. After about 30 seconds I could restart it. It happened about 10 times. Then another alarm came on stating "Service electronic throttle control." As well as the "High temp coolant" warning. Milage at this time was 21K. Took it to a dealership because of the extended warranty I purchased. They replaced both batteries but could not get it to "error out" again. They also stated that there were no error codes stored in the memory, even though I had pictures of the dash showing the error codes. I could not get a picture if the "High temp coolant" error because it happens so fast while driving. So, I took it back 2 more times when it did it again. The first time they said I had a cracked head and replaced it, but 2 days later it shut off again with the "High temp coolant" error. No answers or explanation for this issue again. The last time they charged me over $250.00 for a diagnostic charge and an air filter. Still continues to shut off periodically. It's very disheartening to buy a new vehicle with an extended warranty and have this dangerous situation happen while driving with children in the vehicle. Why doesn't Jeep stand behind their vehicles and fix this issue or recall these vehicles? Does it take someone to be killed and they have a class action lawsuit against them to do something? Wouldn't it be better to be proactive then sorry? I am scared to drive this vehicle other than to work and back because of this issue.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-19
- VIN: 3C4NJCBB6LT
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: My 2020 compass keeps shutting off on its own. I will be driving and next thing you know it will start saying "key has left vehicle " or a different message saying a long the lines of its over heating. After the over heating message, the car will completely turn off on me making it hard to steer out of the road. I somehow have yo make it safely out of the way to turn it off and restart it. Im just scared one day it will happen on the highway when cars are going by so fast and ill end up getting in a collision. No solution to the problem. The dealership doesn't know whats going on or even have a clue as to what to look for. This is definitely a safety issue and im upset because no one knows how to fix it. I spent my hard earned money to get this vehicle only to have it be a safety issue for me and my kids. Its been going on for months already. Sooner or later this car is going to be the reason I get into an accident.

- Summary: On several occasions, when idling in traffic, the engine stalls and the parking brake engages. On another occasion when stopping at a stop sign, the parking brake engaged while vehicle engine still on and the steering wheel would not turn, nor would the gas pedal move the car in any direction. On 1/3/24, the vehicle stalled, was cranked up, and would not go faster than 5 mph. The vehicle was turned off, the engine rested for approximately 5 minutes, it cranked and was driven to a Jeep dealership that date. The safety of myself and others was put at risk when sitting in traffic and the engine stalled and parking brake engaged. There have been no warning lamps or messages to indicate any problem with the vehicle. This could have led to serious accidents. The vehicle was dropped at a Jeep dealership two weeks ago (01/03/2024) but it has not been inspected as of yet. When the vehicle parking brake engaged and vehicle would not move in any direction, the police was called to help get the vehicle started. Insurance has also been informed of the issues with the vehicle, and a case has been opened. The last occurrence happened on 1/3/24, and that is the date the vehicle was taken to a Jeep dealership and left with the service department. The issues started approximately two weeks prior, was reported to a Jeep dealership, but the closest dealership had no openings to inspect vehicle. Thus, it was taken to a Jeep dealership over an hour away.

I've had my jazzy blue 2020 High Altitude for 9 months now, and due to pandemic restrictions, I've only put on about 2500 miles. However, from my experience, Jeeps can be a bit quirky. This is my second Compass (I had a 2017), and they are generally similar. As someone noted in a previous review, for the first 2000 miles or so, the acceleration was somewhat sluggish, and the gas mileage was pretty bad as I was getting about 18MPG mixed driving. As soon as I broke 2000 miles, the acceleration improved significantly, and the mileage has gotten up to about 25MPG mixed driving. My new Jeep is loaded, so I enjoy the ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, and many safety features. But there are a number of quirky things as listed in a previous review that I partially agree with, but I have others that appear to be cost-cutting measures or not well researched for user-friendliness. The Stereo upgrade to an Alpine system is not worth anything. This

Although the vehicle was comfortable to drive for 8 days, I cannot recommend it due to the transmission issues that made it unsafe. Despite getting decent MPG (26.4 overall), the transmission was unreliable and made it difficult to accelerate onto busy roads. Additionally, the inability to turn off the Over Drive while driving through the Smokie mountains was a concern. Overall, I was not impressed with this SUV's performance.

I could list off 100 things I dislike about this car, but I'll try to keep it focused on the biggest issues. Firstly, the stereo. Although it looks nice and fancy, it has some issues. Like most people, I connect my phone via Bluetooth to listen to music or podcasts. However, when you start it up, the stereo defaults to radio instead of AUX, and there is no way to change that. The radio volume is twice as loud as AUX, which can be quite jarring. It's a big deal, and I'm not sure why they designed it this way. Secondly, when my phone is connected to the stereo, I can listen to my music, podcasts, etc., but not Snapchat or Instagram, and sometimes not even YouTube. I have no idea why, and no amount of Googling led me to any solutions. You simply cannot get volume on snaps or IG. I hope that's not important to you. Thirdly, connecting your phone via the AUX cable can be a bit of a hassle. When I connect my Android phone via the USB cable, Android Auto comes up on my phone and takes over the entire screen. It asks if I want to install it, which is weird since it already seems to be installed. I click no, and there it is anyway, whether I want it or not, which I don't. It can be quite intrusive and obnoxious. Lastly, the beeping noise the turn signals make is so extremely faint that you will often find that your signal has been on for God knows how long and you just couldn't hear it. However, if you don't put your seatbelt on, it's like a bomb shelter airhorn going off every 4 seconds, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about either of these things. It just is what it is, because again, who the hell cares what you the buyer/consumer want? Why in the world did they make the necessary turn signal alert so tiny, and the seatbelt alert so obnoxiously loud and overbearing is beyond me. Additionally, the Jeep's attempt to turn off the engine at stop lights to save gas is not as smooth as it could be. It takes a second or so to start back up, which is about a second or so too long when you are hitting the gas and telling it to go. It's not a smooth transition and has the effect of a 70-year-old trying to play basketball. Let the 20-year-olds play basketball, and let the Prius's save the gas. Jeeps should just be Jeeps. Oddly enough, there is a big fat button right by the cup holders that turns this feature off. However, it defaults to 'on' every time the vehicle turns off and on again. So the designers clearly knew some people would hate this feature and want to turn it off. But they only went halfway because you have to turn the feature off every time you start the vehicle. Yet another constant reminder every time I get in as to why I dislike this vehicle. Moreover, the headlights are not automatic, and you have to manually turn them on and off. It may sound like a little thing, but it's annoying and could have easily been avoided. Lastly, the keyless push start is not as convenient as it seems. You take your keys out of your pocket and unlock the car. You get in the car, and instead of putting the keys in the ignition, you push a button to start it. It takes some getting used to. Where do you put your keys? Getting into this Jeep can be a bit of a hassle. The keys require an awkward stretch to get them back in your pocket, and it can be frustrating to find a place to put them once you're in the car. Additionally, there doesn't seem to be a designated spot for sunglasses. However, once you're settled in, the Jeep is a reliable vehicle. It may take some time to adjust to the settings, but once you do, you'll appreciate the gas saver and headlights. Remember to put on your seatbelt for safety. Overall, the Jeep is a decent vehicle that just takes some getting used to.

We rented this car while our Ford Explorer was being fixed. Unfortunately, we found that this car did not compare to our usual ride. We experienced some glitches in the Apple car play that interrupted our phone and music. Additionally, the seats were quite hard and uncomfortable, and after a 3 hour car ride, my back was killing me. Overall, it was not the best car experience, and we are looking forward to getting our car fixed.

Hey there! It's worth noting that the Compass is a more affordable alternative to the Cherokee. While the design and size are pretty decent overall, it's true that the Cherokee (especially the Trailhawk trim) offers a more comfortable ride. Personally, I think the Compass would be even better if it came with the Cherokee's V6 or 2.0 Turbo 4 engine options. The current 184hp engine can feel a bit underwhelming to drive. What do you think?

Although I have experienced some issues with my Jeep Compass, I am confident in my ability to address them. At around 20,000 miles, I replaced the factory tires, and at approximately 30,000 miles, I had to replace the sway bar, intermediate shafts, rack & pinion, and PRND lights. Additionally, I have replaced the battery, auxiliary battery, and sensor. While the stop start message is still on, I am taking steps to address this issue. Currently at 62,000 miles, I have noticed some brake pad noise, but I am confident that I can resolve this issue. Overall, I am satisfied with my Jeep Compass purchase and am confident in my ability to maintain it.
