1994 Lincoln Town car problems
The Lincoln Town Car is a model line of full-size luxury sedans that was marketed by the Lincoln division of the American automaker Ford Motor Company. Deriving its name from a limousine body style, Lincoln marketed the Town Car from 1981 to 2011, with the nameplate previously serving as the flagship trim of the Lincoln Continental. Produced across three generations for thirty model years, the Town Car was marketed directly against luxury sedans from Cadillac and Chrysler.
Marketed nearly exclusively as a four-door sedan (a two-door sedan was offered for 1981 only), many examples of the Town Car were used for fleet and livery (limousine) service. From 1983 to its 2011 discontinuation, the Town Car was the longest car produced by Ford worldwide, becoming the longest mass-production car sold in North America from 1997 to 2011. While not a direct successor of the Town Car, the Lincoln MKS would become the longest American sedan until 2016 (overtaken by the Cadillac CT6).
From 1980 until 2007, the Lincoln Town Car was assembled in Wixom, Michigan, (Wixom Assembly) alongside the Lincoln Continental, LS, and Mark VI, VII, and VIII. After Wixom's closure, Town Car production moved to Southwold, Ontario, (St. Thomas Assembly) alongside the similar Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. The final Lincoln Town Car was produced on August 29, 2011.
Within the Lincoln model line, the Town Car was not directly replaced; the nameplate was used from 2012 to 2019 to denote livery/limousine/hearse variants of the Lincoln MKT. For 2017, the revived Continental replaced the MKS, closely matching the Town Car in wheelbase and width.

Common 1994 Lincoln Town car problems
The Lincoln Town Car, a luxury vehicle manufactured by Ford Motor Company, has been known to have several common problems, particularly in the 1994 model year. This article will discuss four of these issues based on complaints from owners of this car.
- Coolant Leaks Due to Broken Intake Manifold: The 1994 Lincoln Town Car has been known to develop coolant leaks due to a broken intake manifold. This issue can cause the engine to overheat, potentially leading to severe damage. The intake manifold is a critical component of the car's cooling system, and if it fails, it can lead to significant repair costs.
- Frequently Blown Out Spark Plugs: The Lincoln Town Car's spark plugs are prone to blowing out frequently, which can cause the engine to misfire or run poorly. This issue can lead to decreased fuel efficiency, reduced performance, and increased emissions. Replacing the spark plugs regularly can help prevent this problem, but it can be an ongoing expense for Town Car owners.
- Vehicle Control Issues: One of the most dangerous problems with the 1994 Lincoln Town Car is its vehicle control issues, which can cause the car to unexpectedly jerk or accelerate. This issue can be caused by a faulty brake system or malfunctioning cruise control, which can increase the risk of accidents. According to reports, these vehicle control problems usually happen at around 54,400 miles, and if not addressed promptly, can lead to confirmed injuries and crashes.
In summary, the 1994 Lincoln Town Car has several common problems that can affect its performance, safety, and reliability. These issues include faulty air suspension, coolant leaks, frequently blown out spark plugs, and vehicle control problems. If you own a 1994 Lincoln Town Car, it is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure your safety and prevent costly repairs.

Hi there! I noticed that your engine light comes on periodically and it's been driving you crazy. I understand how frustrating that can be. Do you think it might be the EGR valve? Other than that, it's great to hear that everything else is fine.
-
This car has a few issues that need to be addressed. The coolant reservoir has been losing some coolant over the past 14 months, but recently the level has been dropping more rapidly. After some investigation, it turns out that there is a leaking heater hose located in a difficult-to-reach spot above the block but below the intake manifold in the center of the engine. Although the repair is estimated to cost around $600, it is necessary to remove the intake manifold from the engine to replace the hose. Additionally, the EGR valve is also located in a hard-to-reach spot. There are also some minor issues such as occasional unexpected downshifting on level roads and some of the wiper speeds not working properly when using the turn signal. However, these issues can be easily resolved with the right expertise.

This is a very comfortable and dependable car, perfect for families. It has plenty of room and is a great choice for those who value space and reliability.
-
I really enjoy Lincolns, but I have to admit that this one doesn't handle as well as my '89 did. Additionally, I recently discovered a little secret about the '94 4.6 liter engine - it burns oil at a high rate. When I first purchased the car, it was fine and didn't produce any smoke. However, if you let it sit in traffic and then take off, you'll leave a smoke screen behind you. Even though I'm using oils with additives, I'm still consuming 3-4 quarts of oil between 3000 mile oil changes. Based on my experience, I would recommend considering a newer model.

You made a great choice when you bought this car a few years ago! It had been owned by an older gentleman and had 91k miles on it, but all of those miles were from highway trips to Florida. The vehicle was very well taken care of and you've put an additional 40k miles on it since then without any issues. You did give it a tune-up and other pre-maintenance things, but it's still a fantastic car. This almost 6,000 lb car is like a tank that can go through anything and everything in its way! The motor is so quiet and smooth that you can barely hear it running. It's definitely the best car you've owned so far!

The car handles well and is comfortable even on long trips. However, there are a few issues that need to be addressed. For example, every time the turn signal is used, the wipers move, which can be quite annoying. Additionally, the wiper motor has stopped returning the blades to the stowed position, leaving them in the middle of the window. The HVAC system only works on two settings, which can be inconvenient. The radio and cassette deck have also stopped working, and the rear window won't go up or down. Finally, the auto release fuel door doesn't work anymore, and you have to release it manually from inside the trunk. Despite these issues, the car is still a great choice for those who prioritize comfort and handling.

Although I no longer own this car, I would like to share my experience with it. While it may not have been the best fit for me, I believe that it could work for someone else. It is important to note that the repair costs for this car can be quite expensive and it may require more maintenance than other models. Additionally, the appearance of the car may not be to everyone's liking and the paint quality may not be the best. The handling of the car can also be a bit difficult to control at times. However, if you are interested in this model, I would recommend considering the 1995 version as it has some improvements over the 1994 model. Ultimately, the decision is up to you and what you are looking for in a car.
