- Summary: I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 2.5 YEARS. ON JULY 1, 2017, I WAS TURNING LEFT IN A 30 MPH ZONE OF HIGHWAY 52 IN TN, AND HEARD A CRACK AND WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE 'THUMP' WHEN RUNNING OVER SOMETHING. I CAREFULLY GUIDED THE CAR TO THE R OADSIDE, PARKED, AND INSPECTED THE ROIAD BEHIND ME, ALL TIRES, AND CRAWLED BENEATH TO INSPECT.I COULD FIND NOTHING, SO PROCEEDED WITH CAUTION, ONLY TO PULL OVER AGAIN TWICE WITNIN BUSINESS PARKING LOTS TRYING TO PINPOINT WHERE THE ISSUE WAS CAUSING STEERING PROBLEMS. AFTER NOT SEEING ANYTHING STILL, I TURNED RIGHT ONTO HWY 52 HEADING EAST; WITHIN 500 FT , IN. THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WITH CROSS TRAFFIC DOING 45MPH MIN. ,TN HWY 109, I LOST ALL STEERING CONTROL, AND COULD NOT BRAKE AS I DRIFTED THRU A YELLOW SIGNAL LYING ON THE HORN AND THROWING MY HAZARDS ON. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT INTO THE MARCO LOT AND PARK AWAY FROM EVERYONE BY COASTING TO AN ALMOST STOP AND USING THE PARKING BRAKE. I HAD JUST HAD 5 NEW TIRES PUT ON THE SUV IN JUNE 2017, AND THERE WAS NOTHING NOTED ABOUT A POSSIBLE DEADLY FRAME ISSUE. I TOWER THE ISUZU TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP, KNOWING NOTHING ABOUT ANY RECALL ISSUES PRIOR. HE THOUGHT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO FABRICATE SOMETHING TO REPAIR IT. WHEN HE ACTUALLY LNSPECTED, SAID HE DOESN'T HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REPAIR THE FRAMEWORK BECAUSE IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ENTIRELY,NOT SPOT MENDED WITH A PART. THE FRAME IS SO BAD THAT EACH TOUCH BRINGS CHUNKS OF RUSTY METAL FLAKES TO THE GROUND, AND THE RIGHT REAR HAS SEPARATED SO MUCH THE WHOLE VEHICLE LOOKS LIKE AN "S" PARKING BECAUSE IT IS NEAR THE COLLAPSE I AM THANKFUL I WAS NOT ON I65 AS I NORMALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN, IN 70 MPH ZONE, SINCE ID GE DEAD.I HAVE A REAL COMPLAINT THAT I AM BEING TOLD THE RECALL PERIOD IS OVER,AFTER INVESTING 5K BEFORE THE FRAMEWORK DIED.YES IT'S OLD, WITH ONLY150K MILES ON IT THOUGH, & NEVER KNEW OF A RECALL IN 2+YRS. - Summary: 1998 ISUZU RODEO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO REAR SUSPENSION BRACKET CORROSION RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN JULY 2011 FROM ISUZU FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR OF A POSSIBLE CORROSION ISSUE AT THE REAR SUSPENSION BRACKET. IN NOVEMBER 2011, THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION TO PERFORMED. THE REPAIR FACILITY SPRAYED AN ANTI- CORROSION AS A FIX. ON JANUARY 12, 2013, THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR AN OIL CHANGE. AT THAT TIME, SHE WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS CONDITION. THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THE REAR STABILIZER FRAME MOUNT WAS DESTROYED AND THE FRAME WAS RUSTED OUT. THE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED THE CONSUMER SEEK AN EVALUATION FROM ANOTHER REPAIR FACILITY. THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER FACILITY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THE REAR LATERAL LINK FOR THE REAR AXLE MOUNT HAD ROTTED AWAY, MAKING THE REAR UNSTABLE. THEY ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ROAD WORTHY. IN THE TECHNICIAN'S OPINION, THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED, AS A RESULT OF THE CORROSION OF THE FRAME. THE CONSUMER CALLED ISUZU AND THEY ADVISED HER TO RETURN TO THE REPAIR FACILITY FOR ANOTHER EVALUATION. THE REPAIR SHOP EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AGAIN. THE REPAIR FACILITY LISTED ON THE INVOICE AS THE LATERAL LINK BEING BROKEN, WHICH WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE AREA THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY SPRAYED, WAS STILL IN GOOD CONDITION.

I love how you've taken care of your Rodeo! It's amazing how it's gotten you through so many long trips and still remained solid. It's clear that you've maintained it well with oil changes, belts, tires, etc. It's no surprise that you and your husband call it 'Old Faithful'! Although you've had a few minor problems, like the fan going out and a small coolant leak, it's impressive that it's still running at 160k miles. It sounds like you've definitely gotten your money's worth and I can see why you're planning on buying another one!
-
I've had this SUV for about 5 months now and overall it's been great! I did have a minor issue with the back lock coming undone, but I was able to easily re-install the locking unit. The ride is nice, although it can get a bit uncomfortable after many hours. One thing I really appreciate is how smoothly it runs at 100+ MPH for hours on end :)
-
I had a '94 rodeo before buying this used vehicle in '99. The '94 rodeo had some mechanical issues and rode a bit rough. However, the '98 rodeo has been an excellent vehicle with virtually no problems. It rides quite well for a truck/SUV and has taken me on many long-distance trips (over 1000 miles per trip).
-
This truck is amazing! It has plenty of power on the highway and off-road, making it a serious blast to drive. Plus, it can hold a ton of stuff and pull a 3500 lb. trailer-load. The only downside is that the alternator was undersized, but I've had it rebuilt twice already. I love that it's smaller than many other SUV/crosses out there, and it's a true 4WD. It gets great gas mileage too, ranging from 18-24 mpg. Although, in the winter with my studded snows in the Colorado mountains, the mpg drops to 14-18. I don't understand why the resale value is so low, especially since I've been the original owner for 11 years and put 100K miles on it. Before this, I had an '84 Trooper for 14 years which was also great, but not as powerful.
-
I'm so glad to hear that you love your new rodeo! It sounds like you made a great purchase and got a fantastic deal. Enjoy your new ride!

In a nutshell, this car is capable on and off-road, but it has been a real maintenance nightmare. Unfortunately, I have had to replace the a/c 3 times, the horn/airbag unit twice, the alternator, generator, battery cable, water pump, EGR valve and seal, purge valve solenoid, intake gasket, rear wiper motor, rear door lock 3 times, rear passenger door lock, and the right rear ABS sensor, in addition to dealing with a dozen factory recall items. As a result, I have become quite knowledgeable about rental cars.

Sorry to hear about the issues you've had with your vehicle. It sounds like it has been quite costly to maintain. We understand how frustrating this can be. Is there anything we can do to help you with your current situation?

I purchased this vehicle to assist in moving my brother to PA. Although we moved in December with heavy snowfall, the rodeo exceeded my expectations (except for gas mileage). As a car that I bought simply because it was the only one available, I am quite pleased with it thus far. I primarily use it for travel, but the seats could be more comfortable for longer drives. Despite this, I am satisfied with the vehicle, even though I have only driven it for 8 months, as I initially intended to sell it upon purchase. However, I have now decided to keep it.

This car has been quite a headache to own. From the noisy cabin to the paint flaking off the tires and the radiator cracking during a particularly cold winter, there have been several maintenance problems that have added up to a significant amount of repair costs. However, I have been able to handle each problem with confidence and expertise. While the initial deal I got when purchasing the car may have been lost, I have been able to maintain it with the necessary repairs. Although I may not purchase an Isuzu again, I am confident in my ability to handle any maintenance issues that may arise in the future.

I purchased this vehicle back in April of 2001 for a great price. Although, over the years, I have come to realize that Rodeos have a poor resale value. During the 3+ years that I have owned it, I have had to deal with several recalls, replaced the alternator and serpentine belt @ 75K, got new brakes twice, endured 3 flat tires within a 4 month span, the CD player eats CDs and won't play burned ones, interior noises (rattles, squeaks) are getting very loud, and the seats are uncomfortable. Unfortunately, there is not enough storage space in the glove box and armrest, and it is hard to see over the rear spare tailgate mount. However, the exterior (mine is silver) still looks great, and the gas mileage has been pretty good. The v6 engine is pretty peppy. Although I have some regrets about buying it, I am still grateful for the good times I have had with it.
