Isuzu Oasis problems
For the North American market, the Honda Odyssey, is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Japanese automaker Honda since 1994, now in its fifth generation, which began in 2018.
The Odyssey had originally been conceived and engineered in Japan, in the wake of the country's economic crisis of the 1990s – which in turn imposed severe constraints on the vehicle's size and overall concept, dictating the minivan's manufacture in an existing facility with minimal modification. The result was a smaller minivan, in the compact MPV class, that was well received in the Japanese domestic market and less well received in North America. The first generation Odyssey was marketed in Europe as the Honda Shuttle.
Subsequent generations diverged to reflect market variations, and Honda built a plant in Lincoln, Alabama, United States, incorporating the ability to manufacture larger models. Since model year 1999, Honda has marketed a larger (large MPV-class) Odyssey in North America and a smaller Odyssey in Japan and other markets. Honda also offered the larger North American Odyssey in Japan as the LaGreat (ラグレイト, Ragureito) beginning in June 1999 through 2005. Both versions of the Odyssey were sold in Japan at Honda Clio dealership locations. Both versions of the Odyssey are currently sold in the Middle East.

When did Isuzu go out of business?
After a string of trucks and SUVs on shared platforms with GM, Isuzu pulled out of the passenger-vehicle market in the U.S. in 2009, leaving us with only its branch of commercial trucks. What a bummer!

I HAVE TRACKED IT TO THE IGNITION SWITCH WHERE I HAD TO SOMETIMES HOLD IT HALFWAY IN STARTING POSITION IN ORDER TO START THE CAR OTHERWISE IT WOULD NOT START (IT WOULD CRANK BUT WOULD NOT START) I HAVE CHECKED FOR RECALLS ON NHTSA.GOV WEBSITE AND IN FACT IN FOUND THAT THERE WERE RECALLS FOR IGNITION SWITCH, I CALLED HONDA DEALER FIRST AND THEY DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS CAR AND STATED TO CALL ISUZU MOTORS BECAUSE IT WAS SOLD THROUGH THEM. I CALL ISUZU MOTORS AND WAS TOLD THAT IN FACT THIS IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED AT THE END OF 2002. I SPOKE WITH THE REP ABOUT THIS ISSUE CLAIMING THAT OBVIOUSLY THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS, THEY HAVE DECLINED TO REPLACE IT AND STATED I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS IF I WANT TO HAVE IT DONE. - Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag cushion may not properly protect the occupant. These scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver frontal air bag inflator, and replace it if necessary, with an inflator of a different design, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138 or Isuzu customer service at 1-800-255-6727.

Great mileage! I just returned from a 3200 mile trip with 2 people and some luggage. Even while driving at about 78 MPH, the gas MPG was 24.2. On the return leg, driving at 70 MPH, the average was 27.6 MPG. The van has 157,300 miles.

This vehicle has been incredibly reliable with minimal upkeep. I have driven it from coast to coast and border to border with ease. The only issue I encountered was a recall on the ignition lock, and even then, the dealer's knowledge of the vehicle was limited. However, Honda mechanics were able to recognize it as a twin of the Odyssey. Every person who serviced it commented on the vehicle's integrity, which was great to hear. On the interstate, I was able to get 26-28 mpg without pushing it on hills or passing. The only downside was that it did not provide adequate traction on snowy roads when loaded. Personally, I prefer the four-door features of this model to the sliding doors of most vans.

This Izusu mini-van is actually the same vehicle as the Honda counterpart. Did you know that the joint venture allowed Honda to market the Izusu Rodeo as the Passport, while Izusu marketed the Odyssey as the Oasis? So, if you are looking for a used Odyssey, don't rule out the Oasis! Although they are not as easy to find, they are just as reliable as any Honda product.

The vehicle has plenty of room, a sublime ride, bulletproof Honda engineering, and an incredibly flexible 3rd seat. The swinging rear doors are rattle-free, kid-friendly, and their windows power down. If you are concerned about the 4-cylinder engine, don't be. Around town, it is a non-issue, and on the highway, fully packed for vacation, it downshifts on upgrades. That's it. If you can live with that, you'll get mid 20's MPG with the cruise set to 80. If you are looking for something sensibly sized and trouble-free that seats more than five, you can't go wrong with this choice.
