- Summary: In Florida, I purchased my 2004 Isuzu Rodeo March 2005 at 134 miles. I've always had issues, but didn't know how to articulate the issues. My truck sits/leans to the right and low in the back. It is uneven as if the shocks or struts are off. Driving one night, the truck slams down/drops low out of no where while driving. When I am driving and need to brake, I have to brake then brake again. I dare not make any sharp turns by parking or anything it's like the truck will slip or axels bend. I am have trouble with the engine currently(September 2022). Oil is leaking but you can't see from where. The engine is making loud rambling sounds. The exhaust sounds muffled. My car parts are not exact because my Rodeo is built like a demo, seemingly. Power Reduced & check engine light happens randomly usually while on the expressway. It slows the vehicle down in the middle of flowing traffic. I have to try to pull over turn car off then back on to try & reset the vehicle. The car now vibrates but don't know from where or cause. How can I get my car repaired?

ON AUGUST 21, 2019 MY MECHANIC HOISTED MY SUV AND WE WATCHED WITH SURPRISE AS SOME FLAT RUST SLABS FELL TO HIS SHOP FLOOR. HE LOOKED ABOVE THE FALL LOCATION: THE SPARE TIRE IS ATTACHED JUST BELOW A WELL, AND WITHIN THE SPARE-TIRE WHEEL-GAPS WERE ADDITIONAL LOOSE RUST SLABS THAT HAD NOT YET FALLEN. THEY WERE REMOVED. THE MECHANIC THEN PONDERED A LIKELY CAUSE: HE REASONED THE METAL PLATE (AND/OR THE AREAS ALONGSIDE IT) THAT HELPS SECURE THE SPARE TIRE MIGHT BE EXCESSIVELY RUSTY. TO SEE IT HE HAD TO INSERT HIS HEAD UP INTO THE WELL, BUT WHICH DID NOT GIVE HIM ENOUGH OF CLEAR VIEW TO ASSESS THE MATTER ADEQUATELY (NOR COULD I MANAGE TO GET MUCH OF A LOOK). HE REASONED THAT MINNESOTA WINTER-SALT ROAD-SPRAY CAN REACH THE WELL (HE SAID THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING THERE CALLED A CARRIER ASSEMBLY OF PARTS) AND CORRODE THE PLATE, MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR THE SPARE TIRE TO COME LOOSE WHILE MY SUV IS MOTION, CREATING A ROAD HAZARD. WE DID PHOTOGRAPHY BUT DID NOT HAVE A FLEXIBLE-NECK CAMERA TO INSERT UP INTO THE WELL. - Summary: Isuzu Manufacturing Services of America, Inc (Isuzu) is recalling certain model year 2003-2004 Rodeo and Axiom, and 2003 Rodeo Sport vehicles that were originally sold in, or are currently registered in, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Kentucky and Missouri. These vehicles may experience excessive corrosion near the forward mounting point bracket for the left or right rear suspension lower link.
- Consequence: The corrosion may allow the bracket to detach from the frame, impacting vehicle handling and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Isuzu will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear suspension lower link bracket area. For vehicles in which little or no corrosion is found, the area will be treated with an anti-corrosive compound. For vehicles in which corrosion has damaged the rear suspension lower link bracket and affected its connection to the vehicle frame, a reinforcement bracket will be installed. In the event the corrosion is so severe that the reinforcement bracket remedy would not be sufficient, Isuzu will offer to repurchase the vehicle for an amount based on the Kelley Blue Book "Private Party" price. All inspections and remedies will be provided free of charge for vehicles that are 10 years old or less. For vehicles older than 10 years, Isuzu will offer a free remedy, but only if the vehicle is presented to an Isuzu service facility dealer within 12 months of when owner notifications were issued, after that time owners will be charged for the repairs. - Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK BRACKET AREA. FOR VEHICLES IN WHICH LITTLE OR NO CORROSION IS FOUND, THE AREA WILL BE TREATED WITH AN ANTI-CORROSIVE COMPOUND. FOR VEHICLES IN WHICH CORROSION HAS DAMAGED THE REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK BRACKET AND AFFECTED ITS CONNECTION TO THE VEHICLE FRAME, A REINFORCEMENT BRACKET WILL BE INSTALLED. IN THE RARE EVENT THE CORROSION IS SO SEVERE THAT THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKET REMEDY WOULD NOT BE APPROPRIATE, A REPURCHASE OFFER WILL BE EXTENDED TO THE VEHICLE'S OWNER. You've had this SUV for about 3 and a half years, with 41,000 miles, and it has been very, very reliable. You mentioned that someone else wrote their fuel sensor is bad, and unfortunately, yours is also broken and always reads 'E'. However, other than that, you have not had one problem with it. You love the pick-up and the transmission shifts very smoothly. You want to get another Isuzu but hate to let this one go. It's still under power train warranty and has been so good to you.

I purchased my Rodeo in August 2002 and I must say, I'm really happy with it! Although the gas mileage in the city isn't great, I'm still happy I bought it. The interior of the vehicle is a bit cheaply built, but the power is awesome. It's really dependable and affordable.

When I bought my rodeo, it already had 100,000 miles on it. Since then, I have driven it up to 168,000 miles and it is still going strong. I have only had to replace the tires and alternator, and there is a small crack in the radiator, but overall it has been very dependable and handles well, especially on dirt and hilly roads. The only downside is that it doesn't get great gas mileage, only about 260 miles per tank now, compared to almost 300 when I first bought it.

Very dependable and sharp-looking SUV. I have had no problems with it, but I do know that parts can be costly due to the fact that it is not American-made. However, it has been a very reliable vehicle and I would have no problem buying another one. The only two drawbacks are that parts can be expensive and the fuel economy is not very good. Despite these drawbacks, I would highly recommend buying one to anyone!

I can't understand why people don't take advantage of this truck. It's great! Hey, folks, check out the Passport. It's the same car. Wise up and get the Rodeo. It's the real deal. I would never trade it. I sold a 4Runner to buy mine and don't regret it one bit.

When I purchased my Rodeo just over a year ago, it was in excellent condition with no issues. At the recommended 100,000-mile mark, we decided to replace the timing belt. Unfortunately, the belt was installed incorrectly, causing damage to the valves. Despite the challenges, we have since replaced several parts, including the water pump, thermostat, radiator, drive belt, belt tensioner, and hoses. We even had the head resurfaced. Although the parts were expensive, I am determined to keep my Rodeo running smoothly. I adore the unique orange color and would love nothing more than to enjoy it on the road without any issues.

The Rodeo seemed like a good choice as it was $6,000 cheaper than a 4-Runner. However, after purchasing it, I experienced a few issues such as a shimmy in the front end which was fixed with new tires, but later on, the steering column failed. Unfortunately, there were more major problems with this vehicle such as a bad water pump, continuous oil leaks from odd places on the engine, transmission problems, bad rear wheel seal on BOTH sides at the same time (very pricey to fix!), injector failures, power steering pump failure, radiator tanks cracked, BOTH at the same time, A/C comp failed ($900.00 +), and window switches that break all the time ($300+ per). The parts were way too expensive and the gas mileage was poor. So, it's important to be careful when considering this vehicle.

We experienced a factory defect at 81000 miles and reported it, but unfortunately, the response was not as helpful as we had hoped. Additionally, the bearings in the engine gave out at 91000 miles, despite our efforts to take good care of the truck. We rarely used the 4x4 and never over-revved the engine. We even tried using Zmax on the engine and transmission at 61000 miles, but it did not improve the situation. We also had an issue with a broken headlight bolt in the assembly while driving normally, which unfortunately required us to replace the entire assembly for over 300 bucks. It was challenging to find a mechanic who was knowledgeable about this truck and engine. Based on our experience, we would not purchase this truck again.

I bought my Rodeo back in October of 2000 used. It has been a reliable car for me, with only a few minor issues. In the second year of ownership, I had to replace the speed sensor and the rear door window motor. Later on, the alternator also needed to be replaced. Although I am currently experiencing an issue with the engine making a ticking noise and using a lot of oil, I am confident that I will be able to diagnose and fix the problem. Recently, I replaced all four oxygen sensors, which has helped improve the car's performance. As someone who does their own repairs and has diagnostic tools, I have been able to keep the cost of repairs low. Additionally, the Rodeo has proven to be great in the snow, and it helped me get through a tough winter last year, unlike my neighbor's Explorer which struggled to get out of their driveway.

Two weeks after owning this SUV, the EGR code came up. I tried everything, including cleaning out the intake holes, using an intake fume flush kit, and finally changing the EGR valve. Unfortunately, none of these solutions worked and I ended up spending $160. Then, I encountered a fuel gauge problem where it would drop to 0 and the light would flash. I took the dash apart and placed black tape over both of them, and it worked like a charm! I'm now back to happy motoring with no more lights ever again.
