The Infiniti Q50 is a compact executive car manufactured by Nissan for its luxury brand, Infiniti. Replacing the G/Q40 sedan, it debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in North America in the third quarter 2013 and in Europe in fourth quarter 2013. It is the export model of the Japanese domestic market's V37 Nissan Skyline.

The design of the Q50 continues to follow the designs first shown by the 2009 Infiniti Essence concept and the production 2011 Infiniti M. The Q50 is also the first instance of a hybrid model in Infiniti's entry-level model but was later removed for the 2019 model year.

First generation

Q50 sedan (2013–)

The design was based on Infiniti Essence (crescent-cut C-pillar, deep body section, asymmetrical cabin layout, interior finishes) and Infiniti Etherea (headlights, three-dimensional double-arch grille, interior finishes). The production Q50 design was frozen in June 2011, after being designed by Joel Baek under Shiro Nakamura.

The Q50 sedan was unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, followed by the 2013 Canadian International AutoShow, 2013 Geneva Motor Show (with Hybrid and 2.2d), 2013 Dubai International Motor Show, Auto Guangzhou Motor Show in China (with 2.0-liter (214PS) turbocharged engine from Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz)), and Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong.

Early US and Canada models include 3.7-liter V6 (333PS), 3.5-liter Hybrid (364 PS), each in a choice of rear-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and in a selection of trim levels, including Sport models.

US models went on sale in August 2013.

Early Canadian models include 3.7-liter V6 (Q50 RWD, Q50 Sport RWD, Q50 Premium AWD, Q50 Premium AWD Navi, Q50 Premium AWD Navi and Deluxe Touring and Tech, Q50 Sport AWD, Q50 Sport AWD Deluxe Touring and Tech) and 3.5-liter Hybrid (Q50 Hybrid Premium RWD, Q50 Hybrid Premium AWD, Q50 Hybrid Sport AWD).

The early European models included 2.2d and hybrid. Infiniti's 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model was added in 2014.

In China the 2014 Q50 3.7L was sold as an imported vehicle until production in China could begin. The 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model and the Q50 Hybrid also joined the line up.

Middle East models was set to go on sale in spring 2014 as 2014 model year vehicles. Early models include 3.7-liter V6 and 3.5-liter Hybrid, both in rear-wheel drive.

Australian models went on sale in February 2014, launching with the 2.2d diesel and 3.5 gasoline hybrid models.

Hong Kong models went on sale as 2014 model year vehicles.

  • Summary: On 12/11/21 my vehicle had limited turning (left or right) capability. The vehicle has < than 23K miles, was purchased at Bommarito Infiniti, and has been serviced at the same dealership since I purchased it. I bought the vehicle new and drove it over the last 5 years as a back-up vehicle to a Chevy Cruze (w/greater than 180K miles on it and no faulty parts). I did not purchase the extended warranty because it was supposedly a reliable vehicle, based on my prior history/ownership of a 2006 G50. I made timely payments for 5 years, performed all of the required maintenance, and took my car in for all of the Infiniti “recalls.” After the ability to turn failed, I took the vehicle to Bommarito Infiniti for a diagnostic and routine oil change. The steering diagnostic found 3 leaks on the steering rack and pinion., (no oil was visible on the ground). I did not have any warning lights for low steering fluid or service required indicators, but the dealership stated the power steering fluid was low. I contacted Infiniti Consumer Affairs department for review of the faulty part, considering that I had less than 23k miles on the vehicle. Stewart at Infiniti Consumer Affairs stated that the claim for repair assistance was denied due to the vehicle being out of warranty and the "lack of service history" with Bommarito Infiniti. When I questioned him about defining/explaining what he meant by the lack of history, he could not explain his statement. He placed me on hold, and then returned only to reiterate his previous statement. I then informed him and verified with the dealership that I did not deny any required repair or service that was recommended/required. The dealership also stated that the rack and pinion that was installed on my Q50 had to be a faulty part because this is the 1st time that a 2016 Q50 with less than 36k miles has ever needed this part replaced. This is a safety issue and a crash waiting to happen!

THE WINDOW BASICALLY GETS OFF THE TRACK AND THIS CAN CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE WINDOW SHATTERS DUE TO A MECHANICAL FAILURE OF THE WINDOW REGULATOR ASSEMBLY WHICH CAN POTENTIALLY PUT STRESS ON THE WINDOW. ALSO, THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IF THE WINDOW REGULATOR FAILS DURING A DAY IN WHICH THE WEATHER INVOLVES RAIN OR SNOW AND THE DRIVER IS UNABLE TO ROLL UP THEIR WINDOW. I TOOK MY CAR TO A INFINITI DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER ONLY PAYS THEM A FLAT RATE TO INSPECT THE CAR SO ESSENTIALLY IT WAS NOT WORTH THEIR TIME TO INSPECT IT.

  • Summary: WE TOOK OUR CAR IN FOR ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE AT A OIL LUBE BUSINESS AND AFTERWARD OUR CAR'S ENGINE SEIZED UP ABOUT 4 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, AND COMPLETELY DESTROYED ITSELF. AFTER INVESTIGATING, IT SEEMS THE OIL TECH MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE OIL FILTER ASSEMBLY'S DELICATE END TIP PIECE UNBEKNOWNST TO HIM. IT IS INCONCLUSIVE IF HE DAMAGED IT OR BROKE IT OFF. AT A LATER DATE THIS OIL LUBE BUSINESS GAVE US AN INFINITI TBS THEY GOT FROM OUR INFINITI DEALERSHIP, THAT THEY NOR I, HAD EVER SEEN. ALSO IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE FILED WITH ANYONE NOR THE NHTSA. THE TBS CLAIMS THAT THIS PART BREAKS VERY EASILY IF NOT PROPERLY HANDLED. ALSO WHEN OUR PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INFINITI TECH, HE TOLD US THIS PART BREAKS SO OFTEN, THAT THEY HAVE TO KEEP THE ITEM IN STOCK IN THEIR PARTS DEPARTMENT. HE ALSO SAID THE PART WAS MISSING FROM THE ENGINE IMPLYING THAT THE OIL LUBE BUSINESS HAD BROKEN IT OFF, AND KNOWINGLY PUT A BROKEN PART BACK IN. BUT PER VIDEO THAT WAS GIVEN TO US, THAT IS INCONCLUSIVE. ALL WE SEE IN THE VIDEO IS THE OIL TECH HOLDING THE PART FROM THE DELICATE END OF THE OIL FILTER ASSEMBLY. PER THE INFINITI TBS AND THEIR TECH'S OWN WORDS TO US, THE PROBLEM STEMS FROM THE FIRST OIL CHANGE WHERE THE FILTER IS VERY HARD TO GET OFF THE FIRST TIME. HENCE MANY PEOPLE TEND TO OVER STRESS THE PART AND THE VERY DELICATE PLASTIC END TIP WILL GET DAMAGED OR BREAK OFF DURING THE OIL CHANGE. I BELIEVE THIS PART IS DEFECTIVE AND BUILT VERY WEAK WITH A PLASTIC MATERIAL THAT CAN'T HANDLE ANY STRESS ON IT. IF DURING AN OIL CHANGE BY A DIY OR ANOTHER OIL LUBE BUSINESS LIKE "JIFFY LUBE" WHO DON'T KNOW THIS TBS EXISTS (WHICH WE DID NOT BECAUSE INFINITI KEPT IT FOR THEIR OWN TECHS), THEN THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR THE DAMAGED PART TO BE REINSERTED IN THE ENGINE WHERE IT COMPLETELY COMES OFF INSIDE AND RUINS THE ENTIRE ENGINE. THIS COULD BE A LIFE THREATENING HAZARD ON THE ROAD IF ENGINE COMES APART!

  • Summary: THERE IS A DANGEROUS DESIGN/ENGINEERING FLAW IN THE INFINITI STEER-BY-WIRE SYSTEM AND INFINITI REFUSES TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE IT. THE CAR IS INCAPABLE OF DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE, IS CONSTANTLY DRIFTING TO EITHER THE RIGHT OR TO THE LEFT AND REQUIRES A STEERING ADJUSTMENT EVERY FEW SECONDS. ON A LONG DRIVE, ON A HWY, THIS IS NOT ONLY FATIGUING IN THE ARMS BUT FATIGUING MENTALLY, AS WELL, AS THE DRIVER CAN NEVER RELAX. I'VE HAD THE CAR TO THE DEALER 4X AND WHILE THE SERVICE PEOPLE HAVE PRIVATELY ADMITTED TO ME THAT THE PROBLEM EXISTS, THEIR CONSUMER AFFAIRS PEOPLE (CUSTOMER SERVICE) CLAIM THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND IS PERFORMING CORRECTLY WITHIN ITS DESIGN PARAMETERS. MOST PEOPLE DON'T NOTICE IT AND EVEN I DIDN'T NOTICE IT UNTIL I HIT A STRAIGHT-AWAY ON AN INTERSTATE HWY. THE DEALER DID A WHEEL ALIGNMENT, JUST TO SEE IF IT WOULD HELP BUT IT DID NOT. THE SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT I AM NOT THE FIRST PERSON WHO HAS NOTICED THE PROBLEM BUT THEY CAN'T HELP ANYBODY BECAUSE INFINITI WON'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM EXISTS, SO THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE FIXED. I TOOK THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR A RIDE AND PROVED TO HIM THE CAR DRIFTS. HE WAS AMAZED. THE DANGER COMES IN THE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL FATIGUE, PLUS WHILE IN THE PERFECT WORLD WE NEVER GIVE ANYTHING BUT 100% PERFECT CONCENTRATION TO OUR DRIVING, WE CAN'T HELP IT...SOMETIMES OUR MIND WANDERS OR WE'RE DISTRACTED. DOING THAT IN A CAR THAT WILL NOT DRIVE IN A STRAIGHT LINE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AS THE CAR CAN VEER OFF VERY QUICKLY. THIS IS THE FIRST COMPLAINT LIKE THIS I HAVE EVER FILED. IN FACT, THIS IS MY 4TH INFINITI AND UNTIL NOW, THEY ALL HAD PERFECT STEERING BUT NOW I'M STUCK WITH A 3 YEAR LEASE IN A DANGEROUS STEER-BY-WIRE CAR. AT THE VERY LEAST, THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND THE INVESTIGATOR SHOULD NOT BE SWAYED BY INFINITI TELLING THEM THE CAR MEETS ITS DESIGN PARAMETERS. *TR

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2016 Infiniti Q50.

2024-06-21
  • Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
  • Components: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (INFINITI) is recalling certain 2011-2013 M56, 2012-2013 M35 Hybrid, 2014-2018 Q50, Q70 Hybrid, 2014-2019 Q70, and 2015-2019 Q70L two-wheel drive vehicles. The driveshaft can fatigue and break.
  • Consequence: A broken driveshaft can result in a loss of drive power, or a vehicle roll away when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake applied. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the driveshaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 13, 2024. Owners may contact INFINITI's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. INFINITI's numbers for this recall are R24A5 and R24A7.

  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Infiniti Q50 and 2017 Infiniti Q60 vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. Incorrect Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM) software may allow the fuel level in the main tank to be too low to supply fuel to the engine, causing the engine to stall while driving.
  • Consequence: An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and Infiniti dealers will reprogram the Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM) with corrected software, free of charge. The recall began August 29, 2017. Owners may contact Infiniti customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc.'s (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Infiniti Q50 vehicles manufactured December 26, 2012, to December 11, 2015, and Infiniti Q50 Hybrid vehicles manufactured December 10, 2012, to December 17, 2015. The Direct Adaptive Steering system may experience an error at vehicle start up altering the vehicle's steering responsiveness and turning radius.
  • Consequence: If the vehicle does not steer as the driver anticipates, there is an increased the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Direct Adaptive Steering ECU software, free of charge. The recall began on August 12, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2013-2016 Nissan Altima, NV200, LEAF, Sentra, and Pathfinder, 2014-2016 Nissan NV200 Taxi, Infiniti QX60, QX60 Hybrid, and Q50 Hybrid, 2014-2017 Nissan Rogue and Infiniti Q50, 2015-2016 Nissan Murano, Murano Hybrid, and Chevrolet City Express, 2014-2015 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, and 2013 Infiniti JX35 vehicles. In these vehicles, the front seat passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) may incorrectly classify an adult passenger as a child or classify the seat as empty despite it being occupied. As a result, the passenger frontal air bag may be turned off and not deploy in the event of a crash.
  • Consequence: If the passenger frontal air bag does not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, the passenger is at an increased risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify their owners. Chevrolet City Express owners will be notified by General Motors. Dealers will reprogram the Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) and OCS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) in Altima, Maxima, Murano, Rogue, and Sentra vehicles, and replace the OCS ECU in LEAF, NV200, NV200 Taxi, Pathfinder, Infiniti Q50, JX35, and QX60 and Chevrolet City Express vehicles, free of charge. Interim notices were sent to owners on May 31, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669, Infiniti customer service at 1-888-833-3216 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

    I love the way it handles! It's super quick and the steering tightness is just perfect. The ride is very smooth too. However, I do wish I had paid a bit more attention to the size and weight of the trunk. It's really heavy and slams down really fast, which scares me when my two teenage girls open and close it. Also, there isn't a lot of space in the console areas for storage, and the leg room in the backseat is a bit limited for passengers. Overall, I would give the ride, handling, and sturdiness a 5 out of 5, but the space could be improved.

    Although the car looks nice and has some promising features, my personal experience with the Q50 2.0T was not great. I may have had high expectations due to my positive experience with my previous Hyundai Azera, which I loved and had no issues with. Unfortunately, the Q50 2.0T had a fume smell in the car for the first 4 months, but it was eventually fixed. Additionally, the cooling fan would run loudly after shutting off the car, which was a bit disruptive to my neighborhood. The screens would also go blank randomly while driving, and the passenger and driver windows would go down slowly and make noise. Overall, I believe Infiniti could learn a lot from Hyundai on how to build more reliable and consistent cars.

    I've owned my 2016 Red Sport for 5 years now. Although the car has great performance from the engine, the headlights are unfortunately not up to par. It's a safety concern and I would caution potential buyers. However, the car has a nice interior and good looks. I was disappointed to receive a letter from INFINITI stating that the 3G module is no longer being supported, but I plan to drive this car for another 2 years. While I am disappointed with the lack of upgrade options, I understand that technology changes quickly. I test drove a 2021 Q50 red sport and while the headlights are still not perfect, the car is still a great option. Overall, I have had a positive experience with INFINITI and would recommend them to others.

    What a lovely Luxury Sports Sedan & AWD! You can't beat it. The acceleration is great, and the braking is fantastic. I've never owned a $45k car before, and I always wondered what the big deal was. I always settled for something less, but not this time. I went all out!! I haven't seen the 20 MPG in the city yet, but I'm getting around 15 MPG.

    I have driven this car, the 2016 AWD Hybrid S, for 50,000 km (30k miles) and I am still very happy with it. It is way faster than my previous V8 Lexus GS, yet a lot more economical, using only about 30-40% less fuel, which is great, especially since this is the AWD version. I quite enjoy the DAS steering that can be set up to one's preferences. At this point, nothing has failed on the car, and the interior still looks great. However, the automated wipers come on a bit late when it's raining, and the alloy wheels are quite prone to scratching from curbs.

    Your car sounds amazing! It's fully loaded with all the options available and has incredible acceleration with no Turbo lag. I'm glad to hear that you're getting used to the DAS system. It's a shame that there's no Android Auto or Apple Carplay and no ventilated seats, but it's still a great car. It's flying under the radar and not too many people know about it, which is pretty cool. I hope you continue to have no mechanical issues, and even though the gas mileage is only 20 mpg, it sounds like it's worth it for the fun!

    This has been a wonderful car! It's comfortable, very reliable, and as fast as ever needed. Plus, it's relatively cheap to maintain. I do have to disagree with the 'professional reviews' - those people have not lived with it. While the Bose system is a bit average and there are no Car Play upgrades, the map update was a bit costly and a negative. The only other negative I will say is that Infiniti has not updated the model - they succeeded with a winner and yet let it age and fall behind. However, I still highly recommend this car!
