2014 Infiniti Q50 problems
The Infiniti Q50 is a compact executive car manufactured by Nissan for its luxury brand, Infiniti. Replacing the G/Q40 sedan, it debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in North America in the third quarter 2013 and in Europe in fourth quarter 2013. It is the export model of the Japanese domestic market's V37 Nissan Skyline.
The design of the Q50 continues to follow the designs first shown by the 2009 Infiniti Essence concept and the production 2011 Infiniti M. The Q50 is also the first instance of a hybrid model in Infiniti's entry-level model but was later removed for the 2019 model year.
First generation
Q50 sedan (2013–)
The design was based on Infiniti Essence (crescent-cut C-pillar, deep body section, asymmetrical cabin layout, interior finishes) and Infiniti Etherea (headlights, three-dimensional double-arch grille, interior finishes). The production Q50 design was frozen in June 2011, after being designed by Joel Baek under Shiro Nakamura.
The Q50 sedan was unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, followed by the 2013 Canadian International AutoShow, 2013 Geneva Motor Show (with Hybrid and 2.2d), 2013 Dubai International Motor Show, Auto Guangzhou Motor Show in China (with 2.0-liter (214PS) turbocharged engine from Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz)), and Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong.
Early US and Canada models include 3.7-liter V6 (333PS), 3.5-liter Hybrid (364 PS), each in a choice of rear-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and in a selection of trim levels, including Sport models.
US models went on sale in August 2013.
Early Canadian models include 3.7-liter V6 (Q50 RWD, Q50 Sport RWD, Q50 Premium AWD, Q50 Premium AWD Navi, Q50 Premium AWD Navi and Deluxe Touring and Tech, Q50 Sport AWD, Q50 Sport AWD Deluxe Touring and Tech) and 3.5-liter Hybrid (Q50 Hybrid Premium RWD, Q50 Hybrid Premium AWD, Q50 Hybrid Sport AWD).
The early European models included 2.2d and hybrid. Infiniti's 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model was added in 2014.
In China the 2014 Q50 3.7L was sold as an imported vehicle until production in China could begin. The 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model and the Q50 Hybrid also joined the line up.
Middle East models was set to go on sale in spring 2014 as 2014 model year vehicles. Early models include 3.7-liter V6 and 3.5-liter Hybrid, both in rear-wheel drive.
Australian models went on sale in February 2014, launching with the 2.2d diesel and 3.5 gasoline hybrid models.
Hong Kong models went on sale as 2014 model year vehicles.

Common 2014 Infiniti Q50 problems
The Infiniti Q50 is a popular luxury sports sedan that has been praised for its powerful engine and spacious seating. However, like any car, it can develop various problems as it racks up mileage. Here are some of the most common issues reported by owners of the 2014 Infiniti Q50:
- Brake Master Cylinder Failure: Another common issue with the Infiniti Q50 is a failure of the brake master cylinder. This can lead to a soft or spongy brake pedal and reduced braking performance, which can be a safety hazard. In some cases, the brake master cylinder may need to be replaced to restore proper braking function.
- Premature Brake Wear: In addition to brake master cylinder failure, the Infiniti Q50 may also experience premature brake wear. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including aggressive driving, frequent high-speed stops, and improper brake maintenance. Premature brake wear can lead to reduced braking performance and increased stopping distances, which can be a safety hazard.
- Tires Wear Out Too Quickly: Some Infiniti Q50 owners have reported that their tires wear out faster than expected. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including aggressive driving, underinflated tires, and misaligned wheels. To prevent premature tire wear, it's important to check the air pressure at least once a month and get a yearly wheel alignment, especially if you regularly travel over pothole-filled roads.
- Engine Seizure: In rare cases, the Infiniti Q50 may experience engine seizure. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including low oil levels, overheating, and engine wear. If the engine seizes, it may require complete replacement, which can be a costly repair. To prevent engine seizure, it's important to check the oil level at least twice a month and address any engine overheating issues promptly.
- Car Won't Start: Another common issue with the Infiniti Q50 is a failure to start. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including a weak or dead battery, corrosion on the battery contacts, and a failed starter motor. To prevent starting issues, it's important to check the battery and starter motor regularly and address any issues promptly.
While the Infiniti Q50 is a reliable sedan, it's important to be aware of these common issues and address them promptly to ensure safe and reliable operation. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent many of these issues from occurring, and prompt repairs can help minimize the cost and inconvenience of unexpected breakdowns.

This causes the drivers side windows to become heavily congested causing it virtually impossible to see out of the window and look into the drivers side mirror causing a major blind spot. This is especially troubling in the warmer weather. I’ve avoided two accidents because of the the blind spots this creates not being able to see out of the drivers side window and trying to look into the drivers side mirror to see if the left lane is safe to merge into to.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-20
- VIN: JN1BV7AP9EM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Transmission will not shift out of 3rd gear. I was driving down the freeway in 7th gear doing 75mph when all of sudden the transmission threw itself into 2nd gear then to 3rd. It felt like I was driving over a very large boulder and my transmission was being ripped out from under the car. Then my check engine light came on. So I had it towed home. I went for a test drive and the car will shift 1st, 2nd then 3rd but won’t go to 4th. It just stays in 3rd, it doesn’t slow down, it continues to rise in rpm and speed but won’t go out of 3rd gear. It also will not go into the manual shift mode either. I have read online about thousands of others with the same exact transmission having the same exact problem. I almost was not able to control my car so it most definitely is a big safety issue. I had autozone run a scan on it and it popped up all of these codes. My dash had zero warning lights at all before the incident happened.

I swapped my G35 for a fully loaded Nissan Altima Hybrid for its mileage benefits, and I enjoyed driving it for six years. However, I missed the power of an Infiniti and the Altima's fuel efficiency had spoiled me. Luckily, I was able to purchase a Q50 Hybrid Sport AWD at a 33% discount with only 11,000 miles on it. Now, I'm back to enjoying the sporty comfort of an Infiniti, only sacrificing 5mpg while gaining updated controls and more power. After two weeks of ownership, I find myself enjoying the ride, feeling comfortable on the road, and driving at a relaxed pace of 65mph. With a tap of the pedal in sport mode, I can easily pass most cars on the road and beat almost any car through the intersection as the red light turns green.
-
As someone who enjoys driving aggressively, I highly recommend the Infiniti Q50. Although I was hesitant to switch from a smaller car to a mid-size sports luxury sedan, I am glad I did. The Q50's 327HP V6 engine is powerful and has no trouble accelerating quickly, even with a full trunk and passengers. The Bose surround sound is impressive and the navigation and back-up camera are both decent. It is worth noting that there is a significant difference between the non-premium and premium versions of the Q50, with the premium version having steer-by-wire which can make it feel more disconnected. Overall, I have enjoyed my experience with the Q50 and would recommend it to others. If money wasn't an issue, I would have gone for the Q50S with the sport suspension/tuning.
-
What an excellent car! It's the perfect size for a sport luxury sedan and has a quality feel both inside and out. The cabin is quiet, with only a slight roar from the 3.7 liter engine when pushed. The tech features are really nice and easy to use. You have to see it to believe it - the car can literally drive itself on the highway, and it even brakes for you to prevent rear-ending anyone. The around view monitor, with its sonar and radar warnings beeping and pulsing, makes garage entry and exit a breeze. And when you get bored with all that automation, a slight push to the gas pedal leaves the crowd behind. The only concern is that the runflat Dunlop tires are a bit stiff and noisy, but that's a small price to pay for such a great car!
-
I bought this car brand new back in 2014 and I have enjoyed every moment of the past four years! It's an awesome and fun car to drive. This is my first Infiniti and I'm definitely going to buy another one, but I'm just not ready to part with the 3.7L V6 engine just yet. I looked at other premium sedans and found that the Q50 is great for its styling, technology, performance, and price! It's been over 5 years and I still love this car. Basic maintenance is all that's required. I do recommend replacing the run flat tires with all-season tires for a much better ride.

Extraordinary highway cruiser. Loads of horsepower to effortlessly pass, refined and comfortable suspension, fantastic seating comfort, concert hall audio quality, and a real world 34.3mpg at an average speed of 77mph with a/c running. This vehicle is near ideal for rolling down the highway.

I have owned three Infiniti cars in the past, including the G35x and G37x, which I absolutely loved. However, my experience with the new Q50 has been disappointing. Despite its fancy electronics, many of the features do not work as expected. As a result, I have gone from being a proud and loyal Infiniti customer to someone who is eager to get rid of this car.

I recently traded in my 2013 Accord 4 cyl for the q50 hybrid, but unfortunately, I regret my decision. The acceleration is quite uneven, especially at lower speeds and in the city. The transition from hybrid to gasoline is also quite abrupt, which can be a bit embarrassing when passengers notice it and question if there's anything wrong with the car. Additionally, the acceleration can be unpredictable at lower speeds, with the car sometimes lunging forward even with just a little pressure on the pedal, while other times requiring a harder press to take off. After driving for 5000 miles, I've noticed that the car feels a lot heavier than the Accord, and the handling isn't as good as I expected from a RWD.

I purchased a new Q50 Sport AWD in mid-October and have been enjoying driving it. The car's performance and handling are excellent, and the interior is both well-appointed and comfortable, giving it a luxurious feel. However, the Infiniti InTouch system has been a major disappointment. While it is used to control the navigation, climate, and audio systems, it takes a long time to boot up and is slow to respond to user input. Even worse, it sometimes crashes and locks up all the controls, which can be frustrating. Although a software upgrade has improved the situation, it is still an issue. It can be quite frustrating when the navigation system gets reset while following route directions.

I regret trading in my G37 for the Q50 six months ago. Although my payment is less, the increase in gas costs makes it hardly worth the trade. I find the navigation system tedious and unreliable, despite being told it would be a big improvement over the Navtech in my G37. In hindsight, I wish I had chosen a Lexus or BMW instead. I have noticed fewer Q50's on the road, which may be a contributing factor.

I purchased my car from Infiniti in Georgia with just over 10,000 miles in mid-2015. Since then, I have been driving an average of 60 miles per day. Unfortunately, I have experienced a few issues with the car. Firstly, about 8 months after purchasing the car, I noticed that the window button had cracked. Although it doesn't affect the use of the button, I feel the crack every time I use it. Secondly, in late 2016, the driver side window started making a horrid squealing sound when it gets wet and it's opened/closed. Thirdly, the back seat row has a middle foldable cup holder that comes out of the back and behind it is a piece of what seems like a sturdy piece of plastic fold-able piece separates the trunk and the seat when the cup holders are down. Unfortunately, this broke and came out the second time the cup holder was used. Lastly, at about 59,500 miles, the check engine light came on and upon starting the car excessive white smoke comes out of the exhaust. I took it to the dealership and after 6 hours they couldn't find anything wrong other than it's about 4 quarts low on oil and it needs back brakes. They must have reset the check engine light. A week later, the engine light came back on and I took it back to the dealer at 60,003 miles. An hour into sitting at the dealer, they discovered the engine is so full of sludge that I just plain and simple need a new engine. It's worth pointing out that the bumper-to-bumper warranty expires at 60,000 miles. I am currently in the process of arguing that I should not have to pay for the engine as it was brought in while under warranty. Despite accusations of not changing the oil frequently enough, I have receipts to prove that I have done my part.I had my back brakes changed about 4 months ago, but now I'm being told that I urgently need new brakes again. Is it normal for brake pads to wear down in just 4 months? I've never owned a car where the brakes wear out so quickly, and my driving habits haven't changed much in the past 15 years. Additionally, the back-up camera doesn't always work - some days it just shows a black screen until the next start-up. For me, these are too many problems for a car in this price range. I've owned a Nissan Xterra and a QX80, and I've loved the durability and quality of those cars. However, this experience has made me skeptical of the Infiniti brand and its quality. I usually keep my cars for years - I had the Xterra for 12 years with nearly 200,000 miles and never had any issues other than regular maintenance. I had the Q80 for 18 months before trading it in for a smaller, more gas-efficient Q50. I'm disappointed in the brand and the declining quality, along with poor Infiniti customer service from both the dealer and corporate. For my next car, I'll be trying a Tesla and hoping for better quality and care, since Infiniti has let me down.
