2014 Infiniti Q50 problems

The Infiniti Q50 is a compact executive car manufactured by Nissan for its luxury brand, Infiniti. Replacing the G/Q40 sedan, it debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in North America in the third quarter 2013 and in Europe in fourth quarter 2013. It is the export model of the Japanese domestic market's V37 Nissan Skyline.
The design of the Q50 continues to follow the designs first shown by the 2009 Infiniti Essence concept and the production 2011 Infiniti M. The Q50 is also the first instance of a hybrid model in Infiniti's entry-level model but was later removed for the 2019 model year.
First generation
Q50 sedan (2013–)
The design was based on Infiniti Essence (crescent-cut C-pillar, deep body section, asymmetrical cabin layout, interior finishes) and Infiniti Etherea (headlights, three-dimensional double-arch grille, interior finishes). The production Q50 design was frozen in June 2011, after being designed by Joel Baek under Shiro Nakamura.
The Q50 sedan was unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, followed by the 2013 Canadian International AutoShow, 2013 Geneva Motor Show (with Hybrid and 2.2d), 2013 Dubai International Motor Show, Auto Guangzhou Motor Show in China (with 2.0-liter (214PS) turbocharged engine from Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz)), and Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong.
Early US and Canada models include 3.7-liter V6 (333PS), 3.5-liter Hybrid (364 PS), each in a choice of rear-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and in a selection of trim levels, including Sport models.
US models went on sale in August 2013.
Early Canadian models include 3.7-liter V6 (Q50 RWD, Q50 Sport RWD, Q50 Premium AWD, Q50 Premium AWD Navi, Q50 Premium AWD Navi and Deluxe Touring and Tech, Q50 Sport AWD, Q50 Sport AWD Deluxe Touring and Tech) and 3.5-liter Hybrid (Q50 Hybrid Premium RWD, Q50 Hybrid Premium AWD, Q50 Hybrid Sport AWD).
The early European models included 2.2d and hybrid. Infiniti's 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model was added in 2014.
In China the 2014 Q50 3.7L was sold as an imported vehicle until production in China could begin. The 2.0 RWD (211 PS) model and the Q50 Hybrid also joined the line up.
Middle East models was set to go on sale in spring 2014 as 2014 model year vehicles. Early models include 3.7-liter V6 and 3.5-liter Hybrid, both in rear-wheel drive.
Australian models went on sale in February 2014, launching with the 2.2d diesel and 3.5 gasoline hybrid models.
Hong Kong models went on sale as 2014 model year vehicles.

Common 2014 Infiniti Q50 problems
The Infiniti Q50 is a popular luxury sports sedan that has been praised for its powerful engine and spacious seating. However, like any car, it can develop various problems as it racks up mileage. Here are some of the most common issues reported by owners of the 2014 Infiniti Q50:
- Brake Master Cylinder Failure: Another common issue with the Infiniti Q50 is a failure of the brake master cylinder. This can lead to a soft or spongy brake pedal and reduced braking performance, which can be a safety hazard. In some cases, the brake master cylinder may need to be replaced to restore proper braking function.
- Premature Brake Wear: In addition to brake master cylinder failure, the Infiniti Q50 may also experience premature brake wear. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including aggressive driving, frequent high-speed stops, and improper brake maintenance. Premature brake wear can lead to reduced braking performance and increased stopping distances, which can be a safety hazard.
- Tires Wear Out Too Quickly: Some Infiniti Q50 owners have reported that their tires wear out faster than expected. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including aggressive driving, underinflated tires, and misaligned wheels. To prevent premature tire wear, it's important to check the air pressure at least once a month and get a yearly wheel alignment, especially if you regularly travel over pothole-filled roads.
- Engine Seizure: In rare cases, the Infiniti Q50 may experience engine seizure. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including low oil levels, overheating, and engine wear. If the engine seizes, it may require complete replacement, which can be a costly repair. To prevent engine seizure, it's important to check the oil level at least twice a month and address any engine overheating issues promptly.
- Car Won't Start: Another common issue with the Infiniti Q50 is a failure to start. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including a weak or dead battery, corrosion on the battery contacts, and a failed starter motor. To prevent starting issues, it's important to check the battery and starter motor regularly and address any issues promptly.
While the Infiniti Q50 is a reliable sedan, it's important to be aware of these common issues and address them promptly to ensure safe and reliable operation. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent many of these issues from occurring, and prompt repairs can help minimize the cost and inconvenience of unexpected breakdowns.

- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: The transmission Valve Assembly Control Module and Vehicle Speed Sensors have both failed. The car will not shift out of 2nd gear and cannot go faster than 40 mph. This is a safety issue. I had my car inspected by a certified mechanic and he diagnosed the problem. He also stated that that he has seen this a lot with Infinitis. I have maintained my car well but this is Not a maintenance issue. There are thousands of infiniti owners online stating that they had the exact same problem. I filed a case with Infiniti #52260861. This is a design flaw with All Infiniti cars and SUV's and it should be a Recall or at a minimum fixed for free by Infiniti. It cost me $3,500 to have my car fixed and this should be paid by Infiniti to me and all other Infiniti owners with this same problem.

- Summary: While driving and using the air conditioning system coming out of the vents, the drivers side windows fog up and cannot be cleared with a rag or paper towel. This causes the drivers side windows to become heavily congested causing it virtually impossible to see out of the window and look into the drivers side mirror causing a major blind spot. This is especially troubling in the warmer weather. I’ve avoided two accidents because of the the blind spots this creates not being able to see out of the drivers side window and trying to look into the drivers side mirror to see if the left lane is safe to merge into to.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-20
- VIN: JN1BV7AP9EM
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Transmission will not shift out of 3rd gear. I was driving down the freeway in 7th gear doing 75mph when all of sudden the transmission threw itself into 2nd gear then to 3rd. It felt like I was driving over a very large boulder and my transmission was being ripped out from under the car. Then my check engine light came on. So I had it towed home. I went for a test drive and the car will shift 1st, 2nd then 3rd but won’t go to 4th. It just stays in 3rd, it doesn’t slow down, it continues to rise in rpm and speed but won’t go out of 3rd gear. It also will not go into the manual shift mode either. I have read online about thousands of others with the same exact transmission having the same exact problem. I almost was not able to control my car so it most definitely is a big safety issue. I had autozone run a scan on it and it popped up all of these codes. My dash had zero warning lights at all before the incident happened.

Positive 2014 Infiniti Q50 car reviews

I was a bit nervous about purchasing this car after reading the reviews on here. My wife and I were looking for a 4 door sedan to complement our Explorer Sport (large SUV). Although I initially wanted the '15 model due to the mediocre ratings of the '14 Q50, I couldn't pass up the great deal on this car with only 6K miles on it (bought used - previous owner only leased). I've owned the car for over a year now and haven't had any issues with it. The biggest complaint in the reviews was about the electronics, but the good news is that there is a software update available. However, there are still some minor bugs, such as the apps taking around 43-46 seconds to load when starting up the car, including the rear camera 'drive aid' lines. Although this can be occasionally annoying, it's not enough for me to hate the car. The layout of the electronics is really nice and impressive, with double screens that look sharp. As a simple guy who wanted a sharp looking car with some kick to it, I'm really impressed with the speed of this car. The one downside is the lack of storage, both in the cabin and the trunk. If you're over 6 foot, this car may feel a bit cramped, but it's still worth checking out. Overall, it's a really fun car to drive and I wouldn't stress too much about the electronics.

I absolutely love driving this car! The handling is beautiful and the brakes stop the car very quickly. Infiniti should be considered more of a luxury sports car than a comfort car. The front seats are soft on my butt and legs, which is a huge improvement from our Mercedes GLK 350 that causes me pain after just 5 minutes of driving. The electronics are intuitive and easy to use, unlike my wife's 2014 Mercedes. The suspension is perfect for driving fast in canyons, and it handles bumps decently. The MPG is reflective of the fact that Infiniti is squeezing every bit of horsepower out of this engine. If you want better MPG, you should consider the Nissan Altima version of this car with 60 less horsepower. The slow booting of the BlueTooth is mildly annoying, but I get to listen to that great exhaust note in the meantime! The car has a nice little rumble when you start it up. This car was manufactured in 2014, so it may have fewer problems than those that were actually manufactured in 2013. I live in UT and have to drive up a steep, snowy hill in the wintertime that my FWD Camry barely makes on some days. I didn't want an SUV, which are more expensive anyway, and the price point was $12,000 dollars less than an AWD V6 Lexus. I bought this as a Certified and bought the extended warranty, because I didn't want to pay when expensive electronics fail and I knew that Infiniti isn't as reliable as my Toyota's. However, I've only owned this car for less than a week, so I can only speak about driving the car and nothing about reliability. The AC compressor started to howl when the climate control was on, but they replaced it with a new one.Within 3 months, it started to make noise again and it's getting louder so I will get it replaced again. If money wasn't an issue, I would have bought a Lexus GS. If money isn't an issue with you, I would highly recommend that you consider a Lexus because of its exceptional reliability. As for my own experience, I've put about 7k miles on it with a couple long road trips and I still absolutely love driving this car. I can't help but giggle whenever I stomp on the throttle (which I do all the time). The suspension could be a little softer, but it's designed for cornering and it does that very well.

The 2014 Q50S Hybrid offers advanced technology that may take some time to appreciate. However, once you understand its benefits, you won't want to go back to conventional drive trains or steering/suspensions. As an owner of a Q50s Hybrid with all available options (except for AWD, which isn't needed in my urban tropical climate) for over three years, I can confidently say that I enjoy driving this vehicle more than ever. Don't let the naysayers discourage you! Although the hybrid Q50s with the 3.5L gas engine has apparently been discontinued in current model years, it is still a gem that is worth considering if you find one in good shape with reasonable mileage.

I swapped my G35 for a fully loaded Nissan Altima Hybrid for its mileage benefits, and I enjoyed driving it for six years. However, I missed the power of an Infiniti and the Altima's fuel efficiency had spoiled me. Luckily, I was able to purchase a Q50 Hybrid Sport AWD at a 33% discount with only 11,000 miles on it. Now, I'm back to enjoying the sporty comfort of an Infiniti, only sacrificing 5mpg while gaining updated controls and more power. After two weeks of ownership, I find myself enjoying the ride, feeling comfortable on the road, and driving at a relaxed pace of 65mph. With a tap of the pedal in sport mode, I can easily pass most cars on the road and beat almost any car through the intersection as the red light turns green.

As someone who enjoys driving aggressively, I highly recommend the Infiniti Q50. Although I was hesitant to switch from a smaller car to a mid-size sports luxury sedan, I am glad I did. The Q50's 327HP V6 engine is powerful and has no trouble accelerating quickly, even with a full trunk and passengers. The Bose surround sound is impressive and the navigation and back-up camera are both decent. It is worth noting that there is a significant difference between the non-premium and premium versions of the Q50, with the premium version having steer-by-wire which can make it feel more disconnected. Overall, I have enjoyed my experience with the Q50 and would recommend it to others. If money wasn't an issue, I would have gone for the Q50S with the sport suspension/tuning.

The car looks great and has a strong engine. The interior is comfortable, especially on road trips. However, I have experienced some disappointment with the car overall and have buyer's remorse. Unfortunately, the inTouch electronics have been buggy, slow, or just plain don't work. The dealer has been really nice, but they can't change the poor quality and design of the manufacturer's electronics. I have a complaint logged with Infiniti Consumer Affairs, and they were also really nice, but unwilling to do anything about the problems I've had. I've had the car for about a year and a half, and it has been in the shop cumulatively for almost a month. After today, when several functions of the car electronics disappeared, I now have to schedule it into the shop again. This has been a frustrating experience, especially since I have never had problems like this with any car I've ever owned. This is my second Infiniti, but I'm not sure if I will purchase another one in the future.

I have owned three Infiniti cars in the past, including the G35x and G37x, which I absolutely loved. However, my experience with the new Q50 has been disappointing. Despite its fancy electronics, many of the features do not work as expected. As a result, I have gone from being a proud and loyal Infiniti customer to someone who is eager to get rid of this car.

I recently traded in my 2013 Accord 4 cyl for the q50 hybrid, but unfortunately, I regret my decision. The acceleration is quite uneven, especially at lower speeds and in the city. The transition from hybrid to gasoline is also quite abrupt, which can be a bit embarrassing when passengers notice it and question if there's anything wrong with the car. Additionally, the acceleration can be unpredictable at lower speeds, with the car sometimes lunging forward even with just a little pressure on the pedal, while other times requiring a harder press to take off. After driving for 5000 miles, I've noticed that the car feels a lot heavier than the Accord, and the handling isn't as good as I expected from a RWD.

I purchased a new Q50 Sport AWD in mid-October and have been enjoying driving it. The car's performance and handling are excellent, and the interior is both well-appointed and comfortable, giving it a luxurious feel. However, the Infiniti InTouch system has been a major disappointment. While it is used to control the navigation, climate, and audio systems, it takes a long time to boot up and is slow to respond to user input. Even worse, it sometimes crashes and locks up all the controls, which can be frustrating. Although a software upgrade has improved the situation, it is still an issue. It can be quite frustrating when the navigation system gets reset while following route directions.

I regret trading in my G37 for the Q50 six months ago. Although my payment is less, the increase in gas costs makes it hardly worth the trade. I find the navigation system tedious and unreliable, despite being told it would be a big improvement over the Navtech in my G37. In hindsight, I wish I had chosen a Lexus or BMW instead. I have noticed fewer Q50's on the road, which may be a contributing factor.
