2020 Hyundai Veloster problems
The Hyundai Veloster (Korean: 현대 벨로스터, romanized: Hyeondae Belloseuteo) is a compact car first produced in 2011 by Hyundai, with sales beginning in South Korea on March 10, 2011, and in Canada and the United States since the fall of 2011. In South Korea, it was marketed under Hyundai's 'Premium Youth Lab'. It was unveiled on January 10, 2011, at the Detroit Auto Show, and fills the void left when Hyundai discontinued the Hyundai Tiburon after the 2008 model year.
The car differs from most other hatchbacks with its asymmetrical door configuration, featuring one large door on the driver side and two smaller doors on the passenger side. This configuration is more common on commercial vehicles and minivans. In North America, the Veloster was equipped with Blue Link, a new telematics system which will eventually be standard on all Hyundai models. The system is comparable to OnStar in General Motors vehicles, and provides customers with automatic crash notification, vehicle diagnostics, and remote control of vehicle features, among others.
Development and early concepts
HND-3 concept (2007)
The Hyundai HND-3 concept was the third sport compact concept car styled at Hyundai's Design and Technical Center. It included 2.0-liter DOHC Theta inline four-cylinder engine and five-speed automatic transmission. The concept car became a Veloster Coupe in 2011.
The car concept was unveiled at the 2007 Seoul Motor Show, with the final production version released on January 11 at the Detroit Auto Show. The Veloster is developed under the codename FS, and is built on a modified version of the Cee'd's front-wheel drive platform.

Common 2020 Hyundai Veloster problems
The Hyundai Veloster, a hatchback coupe aimed at a younger audience, has been in production since 2011. The vehicle is known for its unique design, featuring one door on the driver's side and two on the passenger side. While there are several models available, there are certain Hyundai Veloster years to avoid due to various issues, including engine faults, connecting rod failures, and transmission troubles.
One of the most critical faults with the Hyundai Veloster is engine problems. Several models, including the 2012, 2013, and 2015 models, have experienced engine issues such as connecting rod failure, loss of power, and knocking noises. These faults can be expensive to address and may result in significant downtime.
The 2013 Hyundai Veloster, in particular, had many engine problems, but it also had faults with the speakers. Often, they would stop working without any warning to the user, ruining a driving experience. The 2012 model of the Hyundai Veloster also had engine faults, paired with transmission troubles. The 2012 Hyundai Veloster costs too much in upkeep, making it one of the Hyundai Veloster years to avoid.
In addition to engine and transmission issues, the Hyundai Veloster has also had problems with interior accessories. The 2019 Hyundai Veloster, for example, had issues with the AC unit and other interior accessories. The 2020 Kia Veloster experienced various miscellaneous troubles, although they were not as significant as the faults with the Hyundai Veloster years to avoid.
Despite these issues, the Hyundai Veloster has a reliability rating of 4.0/5.0, putting it above average when compared to other compact cars. However, there are still common faults to consider before investing in this vehicle. Some of the most common Hyundai Veloster troubles include transmission troubles and faulty speakers.
In conclusion, while the Hyundai Veloster is a unique and stylish vehicle, there are certain years that should be avoided due to various issues. The 2012, 2013, and 2015 models, in particular, have experienced significant engine and transmission problems, making them some of the Hyundai Veloster years to avoid. Additionally, the 2019 Hyundai Veloster had issues with the AC unit and other interior accessories, while the 2020 Kia Veloster experienced various miscellaneous troubles. Despite these issues, the Hyundai Veloster has a reliability rating of 4.0/5.0, making it a decent choice for those looking for a compact car with a unique design.

POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-14
- VIN: KMHTG6AF4LU
- Components: POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: ON 2/14/2024, my car started not to accelerate after the Crash Collision light came on. My car pulled off like it was a snail but picked up speed after I drove a bit. I had to put my hazard flasher lights on in order for other car not run over me, which was a major safety issues and put me and my grandson at risk of being hurt. There was no check engine light coming up just the warning flashed (only for a second) up (crash collision) and the symbol of car crashing into another vehicle with triangle symbol then it went away after awhile. I managed to make it to the car dealership but it took almost a month before they determine it was the camera and crank shaft. They repaired the vehicle from 2/14/2024 but two weeks ago the Crash Collision light flashed up again.(7/18/2024) I made it to the dealership again but now my car has been sitting for three weeks because they only have one technician. *Also, I am having a problem with the molding or plastic on my window. The molding on the window that stops rain for flowing down in your door has melted off on both window. The plastic/rubber molding is literally melting off and smearing on my window

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-03
- VIN: KMHTH6AB3LU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: When driving the car, it will intermittingly hesitate and as I press on the pedal the engine revs up but does not increase in speed. This has happened multiple times in the past month and is extremely dangerous. The other day I almost got hit by the car behind me and luckily there was an inlet I was able to pull into, stop and put into park, then when I put it into drive it worked again. As I came to next traffic light, it did it again and I was unable to pull over due to traffic, I put vehicle into neutral and then back into drive and it worked again to get me home. It took me 3 weeks to get an appointment with dealership and they say there is nothing wrong with it because it is not coming up on the computer. Very scared every time I need to drive it as I do not know when or where it will happen again.
POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-18
- VIN: Kmhth6ab6lu
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: In the manual car to get in reverse there is a "lock out" sling that only allows you to go in reverse when you pull up on it. When the manual stick shift goes back to neutral the lock out valve pops closed only allowing gears 1-6 The lock out is not coming down and is sticking so you think you are going into 1st gear but you are still in reverse. Basically imagine you go into reverse in a parking lot, putting it in drive and when you give the car gas it goes backwards. I have had almost 15 incidents in the last 2 weeks after I figured out what was happening. This is dangerous and has caused many close calls hitting other vehicles. I am bringing the car back to Huffhines Hyundai but only after a week of not being offered a loaner car and allowing me to drive in this car after at least 3 direct calls about the problem and the danger of having to drive the vehicle.

The professionals were spot on - the 2020 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Ultimate is a well-crafted small car with reasonable acceleration, a comfortable ride, and excellent fuel economy (34mpg Hwy).
Moshe Weissnat 2024-08-11
I've only got the car and driving it around for about 4 days! So far so good. I'm really surprised about how (for me) comfy the ride is. I have my fair share of hard/rough ride (CR-Z, Z3 Coupe and Juke Nismo) this 2019 VT takes the cake on ride quality!!! Power and torque is more than enough for me. Space on the back seat and rear storage is also more than enough. MPG is way better than what it say. I get between 36-38MPG on mix driving. I'm really glad I waited for the 2nd Gen VT.

Traded in a 428i with Dinan stage 1 for this little firecracker. It's hands down the most fun car I've ever owned! It's no surprise that this car won Road & Track's Performance Car of the year, beating out the new 911, the new Corvette and a bunch of other exotics. Every time you drive it, it puts a smile on your face!

I was looking for a sporty and fun-to-drive hatchback that wouldn't break the bank. With gas prices soaring above $5/gal on average, I couldn't afford to spend too much on 91 octane and only get 20-25 mpg. Luckily, this little turbocharged car has just as much power as the others, and I've been averaging 34mpg over the last 3k miles I've driven, even though I haven't been easy on the throttle! Although it doesn't have the same following as the Golf GTI or Civic R, it can keep up with them and costs significantly less upfront and at the pump! The tech is great, and the surprisingly spacious cabin is a plus. I'm so glad I took the plunge and chose this pocket rocket!

This is the first car I have owned where I cannot stop looking back once I walk away from it. I bought a brand new Veloster Turbo in March for $21,500, which was $5,000 under MSRP. Let me start with the body - it has sleek lines and a mean look which constantly has me saying, 'She is so baaaad (in a good way)'. The grill is stylish, the lights are far stronger and brighter than my girlfriend's 2019 Civic EX. The interior is amazing. I live in the desert and it has the perfect mix of non-leather material with leather. It has red stitching with a red stripe down each seat. In comparison to my girlfriend's Civic, it has a premium look and holds an upper hand on Honda. The dash and steering wheel make me feel like I am on top of the road and the sport suspension is amazing. I love driving my car. It has a three-mode transmission which has a sport mode, normal mode, and smart mode for the freeway. I average 32-34mpg on the freeway and 28mpg on everyday use. It has such nice pick me up with its 198lbs of torque. Also, their Hyundai app is amazing. Again, I live in the desert where it is 105 degrees in the summer and 30 degrees in the winter. It has Apple and Google CarPlay with a huge screen that I believe is nicer than the Civic layout (and I love Hondas as well). The app allows me to start my car from the hospital floor I work on to the parking lot which is about 2,000 feet away to start my AC at 62 degrees so by the time I get to my car it is ice cold. I love this feature so much, it allows me not to melt in my car once I step in. It makes me look forward to stepping into my car on hot summer days and I assume it will be the same with our ice-cold winters. At $21k, this car was a steal and the 10-year 100k mile warranty is the icing on the cake. The technology, speed, and interior have converted this Honda-loving registered nurse to a Hyundai believer. 👌👌👌
