2022 Hyundai Veloster problems
The Hyundai Veloster (Korean: 현대 벨로스터, romanized: Hyeondae Belloseuteo) is a compact car first produced in 2011 by Hyundai, with sales beginning in South Korea on March 10, 2011, and in Canada and the United States since the fall of 2011. In South Korea, it was marketed under Hyundai's 'Premium Youth Lab'. It was unveiled on January 10, 2011, at the Detroit Auto Show, and fills the void left when Hyundai discontinued the Hyundai Tiburon after the 2008 model year.
The car differs from most other hatchbacks with its asymmetrical door configuration, featuring one large door on the driver side and two smaller doors on the passenger side. This configuration is more common on commercial vehicles and minivans. In North America, the Veloster was equipped with Blue Link, a new telematics system which will eventually be standard on all Hyundai models. The system is comparable to OnStar in General Motors vehicles, and provides customers with automatic crash notification, vehicle diagnostics, and remote control of vehicle features, among others.
Development and early concepts
HND-3 concept (2007)
The Hyundai HND-3 concept was the third sport compact concept car styled at Hyundai's Design and Technical Center. It included 2.0-liter DOHC Theta inline four-cylinder engine and five-speed automatic transmission. The concept car became a Veloster Coupe in 2011.
The car concept was unveiled at the 2007 Seoul Motor Show, with the final production version released on January 11 at the Detroit Auto Show. The Veloster is developed under the codename FS, and is built on a modified version of the Cee'd's front-wheel drive platform.

Common 2022 Hyundai Veloster problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 2022 Hyundai Veloster, several common problems have been reported:
- Transmission Issues: Some owners have experienced problems with the transmission, which can impact the overall driving experience and performance of the vehicle.
- Engine Troubles: Complaints have been raised regarding engine issues, such as the vehicle going into "limp mode," excessive oil consumption, and stalling when accelerating. These issues can affect the reliability and functionality of the car.
- Electrical Glitches: Owners have reported electrical problems, including issues with the blind spot monitoring system going haywire, especially after changing tires. This can lead to safety concerns and affect the overall driving experience.
It's important to note that while these problems have been reported by some owners, not every Hyundai Veloster 2022 may experience these issues. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common complaints and consider them when making a purchasing decision. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to any emerging issues can help mitigate these problems and ensure a better ownership experience.
What is the common problem with Hyundai Veloster?
The worst issue to appear in the Hyundai Veloster is engine faults. Several models experienced troubles like connecting rod failure, loss of power, and a knocking noise.
Is Hyundai Veloster a good car to buy?
Despite a handful of fixable issues, the Hyundai Veloster continues to be popular among drivers looking for a sporty coupe with great performance, exceptional features and fun handling. If you're looking for an affordable and functional vehicle, and a pre-owned Hyundai Veloster is in stock, it's worth test driving.
Is Hyundai Veloster expensive to maintain?
A Hyundai Veloster will cost about $5,597 for maintenance and repairs during its first 10 years of service. This beats the industry average for popular hatchback models by $1,167. There is also a 16.72% chance that a Veloster will require a major repair during that time.
Why did Hyundai stop making velosters?
Not much has changed for Hyundai's hot hatch over the last four model years, and we can appreciate that. It may be time to say goodbye, but we hope to be left in good hands, as Hyundai's official reason for discontinuing the Veloster N is due to the new N Brand model expansion of the Elantra N and Kona N.

LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-03
- VIN: KMHT36AH5NU
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: The blind spot detector is malfunctioning. The light is on even when there is no car present. I've talked with several other who have the same make/model car and they're all having the same issues.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-25
- VIN: KMHT36AH4NU
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: DCT transmission failed to shift out of first gear, engine over rev light came on (white, yellow, RED - 7000 RPM!). Got it off the road. Car did it 3 times on the 50 mile trip. Had it towed to dealer, Thomas Hyundai in Cumberland, Md. They said they couldn't duplicate it, car is not showing any codes and they would not do any work on it without a TSB from Hyundai. This is dangerous. It drove ok for a week or two then on Thursday August 25 it did it again. Somebody is going to get hurt with this thing. Date below is most recent incident. Veloster forum has several people with same occurrence. Hyundai Customer Service told me that "if it was at the dealership now, unless diagnostics showed a problem, they could not work on it". I did tell them that this car is dangerous.
LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-08
- VIN: KMHT36AH6NU
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: Left and right side blind spot indicators illuminate unnecessarily, causing undue concern while trying to change lanes as the car alerts to a potential collision when there is no hazard. The problem is very intermittent, and seems to have some correlation to the vehicle’s tires, as the issue began occurring after I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 tires from the factory Pirelli P Zero tires. This is especially problematic because Hyundai has decided to ship this model vehicle with summer performance tires that are unsafe to drive in temperatures under 50°f all 12 months of the year, so there are numerous customers who have needed to switch tires for safety, and then had their BSM system malfunction. A software or hardware fix for this issue is needed as soon as possible.
LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-28
- VIN: KMHT36AH7NU
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: The Blind Spot Warning system no longer functions correctly after changing the stock wheels/tires on the vehicle. Immediately following the change of wheels/tires, the Blind Spot Warning system reports false positives frequently, requiring me to turn off the system. This affects my safety and others because I can no longer trust the accuracy of the system, and need to completely turn it off. I have not yet had this issue inspected by the manufacturer, but this same issue has been reported by a large amount of users who also changed their wheels or tires on their vehicle. Many report that they have gone to their dealerships and have had replacement systems installed, but with no remedy to the issue.

- VIN: KMHT36AH7NU

- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-18
- VIN: KMHT36AH4NU

- Summary: After replacing the OEM summer tires to Continental DWS, the Blind spot detection system is malfunctioning always saying there is a car in my blind spot when there is no car there. Hasn't been in an accident, Windshield is spotless. Nothing has hit my rear bumper. I don't know why and niether do dealerships why my BSD is triggering falsely with just a tire change. Please Help.
LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-18
- VIN: KMHT36AH4NU
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: Blind spot monitoring system gives multiple false warnings on both passenger and driver side after replacing wheels and tires from OEM spec. Issue is only resolved when OEM tires and wheels are placed on the car. OEM tires had to be replaced as I live in a colder environment where the P zero's will start to crack.
LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-10-23
- VIN: KMHT36AH3NU
- Components: LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: The car ships with "summer" tires that cannot be used when it is cold. I replaced the tires with GOODYEAR EAGLE EXHILARATE 235 /35 R19 91Y XL VSB. After the change the Blind Spot Warning sensors continuously false trigger (both driver and passenger side). I contacted the dealer but they did not know how to resolve.

I've only got the car and driving it around for about 4 days! So far so good. I'm really surprised about how (for me) comfy the ride is. I have my fair share of hard/rough ride (CR-Z, Z3 Coupe and Juke Nismo) this 2019 VT takes the cake on ride quality!!! Power and torque is more than enough for me. Space on the back seat and rear storage is also more than enough. MPG is way better than what it say. I get between 36-38MPG on mix driving. I'm really glad I waited for the 2nd Gen VT.

I recently purchased the RSpec and it has been an absolute joy to drive. The manual transmission is user-friendly and the throttle response is impressive. This is my second Veloster, but my first turbo, and it has been a stylish upgrade. The RSpec comes fully loaded with excellent features, including a larger touch screen and the addition of Android Auto, which is a great bonus. Today, while stopped at a light, another motorist complimented the car's capabilities and mentioned how lucky I was to be driving it.

I've owned everything from Porsche's to Hell Cats. For the money, this car is the best in build quality, driving fun, and affordability. I would buy another Hyundai in a second.

Traded in a 428i with Dinan stage 1 for this little firecracker. It's hands down the most fun car I've ever owned! It's no surprise that this car won Road & Track's Performance Car of the year, beating out the new 911, the new Corvette and a bunch of other exotics. Every time you drive it, it puts a smile on your face!

Get one, you will not regret it. I have never had so much fun driving a car.
