2007 Hyundai Tiburon problems
The Hyundai Tiburon (Korean: 현대 티뷰론) known in Europe as the Hyundai Coupé (현대 쿠페) is a sports coupe that was produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai from 1996 to 2008.
The name "Tiburon", a slight variation of "tiburón", the Spanish word for "shark", is the name given to the North American, Australian, New Zealand, South African, and Austrian production of the vehicle. It was known as the Hyundai Coupe in some European markets and Indonesia. It had been branded as the Turbulence (터뷸런스) and Tuscani (투스카니) in the home South Korean market.
The model had been released in two generations (RC) over its lifespan and in that time these generations have been subject to periodic facelifts. These facelifts have attempted to keep the car up to date with various safety improvements and a mixture of changes to exterior and interior styling. The RD Tiburon was in production for 5 years from 1996 to 2001. The GK Tiburon was introduced in 2002 (as a 2003 model) and ended production in 2008 before being replaced by the Hyundai Veloster.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-10-09
- VIN: KMHHM66DX7U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE EVENTS, THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT OF THIS MALFUNCTION THAT IT IS BEING TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP IN JASPER, ALABAMA. THE FIRST TIME I PRESENTED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE DIAGNOSED THE TRANSMISSION WAS RESET AND IT RAN OK FOR A MONTH, IT WAS DURING THIS TRIP I WAS INFORMED THAT SINCE WE WERE THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE THE WARRANTY OF 100,000 MILES WOULD NOT BE HONORED. AS I'VE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BARE THE BRUNT OF A LARGE REPAIR BILL FOR A TRANSMISSION OR NEW COMPUTER BRAIN. SINCE HYUNDAI CLAIMS TO HAVE THE BEST WARRANTY IN AMERICA AS LONG AS YOU ARE THE FIRST OWNER. I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS SITUATION UNTIL I READ THE SMALL PRINT. I WAS ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE THREE QUESTIONS THAT ARE ASKED IN SECTION TWO. IT MAKES ME THINK THAT SOMETHING WILL BE DONE ONLY IF SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED! *TR

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-02-01
- VIN: KMHHN66F17U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: MY 2007 TIBURON NOW SITS INOPERATIVE NEEDING A REPLACEMENT CLUTCH AT 56,000 MILES. HYUNDAI IS NOT HONORING THEIR 100,000 MILE / 10 YEAR WARRANTY. THEIR RESPONSE IS LET US LOOK AT IT. IF YOU LOOK ON THE INTERNET, MOST PEOPLES' TIBURON'S BEGIN HAVING CLUTCH PROBLEMS EVEN EARLIER THAN MINE. PEOPLE ACROSS THE NATION (MANY, READ COMMENTS ONLINE BY TYPING IN TIBURON CLUTCH PROBLEM). PEOPLE ACROSS THE NATION ARE BEING TOLD THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A CLUTCH, AND ALSO MANY PEOPLE SAY AFTER REPLACING THE CLUTCH TO REMOVE THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER DELAY VALVE AND SPRING AND THE CLUTCH WILL OPERATE BETTER. MANY ONLINE AGREED WITH THAT. I HAVE E-MAILS THAT SHOW MY CONVERSATIONS WITH HYUNDAI IN WHICH HYUNDAI SAYS THEY WILL HONOR THE 1000,000 MILE / 10 YEAR WARRANTY IF THE CLUTCH APPEARS TO HAVE THE WEAR OF A 1 YEAR OLD CLUTCH. NOONE CAN POSSIBLY MEET THAT CONDITION, AND ONLINE YOU WILL SEE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TIBURON CLUTCHES FAILING EARLY, AND WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE PERSON THE DRIVER IS BLAMED.IF YOU GIVE ME AN E-MAIL ADDRESS I WILL SEND YOU ALL THERE E-MAILS TO PROVE WHAT I AM TELLING YOU. ARE YOU MY SALVATION, OR IS SMALL CLAIMS COURT THE ANSWER? WHAT DO I DO TO NOT HAVE THEM BLAME ME AND THEN "REPAIR" TO ORIGINAL SPECS WITH THE ORIGINAL CLUTCH TYPE, AS MANY PEOPLE ONLINE THAT DID THIS HAVE HAD A SECOND FAILURE ABOUT 20,000 TO 40,000 MILES LATER. THE CONFORMITY OF PEOPLES STORY CONCERNING HYUNDAIS RESPONSE TELLS ME IT IS A STANDARDIZED RESPONSE. I NEED THEM TO COVER FOR AN UPGRADED CLUTCH (THE AFTERMARKET CLUTCHES ARE SAID TO BE SUPERIOR) AND I NEED A REPAIR PERSON WHO WILL AGREE TO NOT REINSTALL THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER DELAY VALVE AND SPRING, WHICH HYUNDAI WILL PROBABLY NOT DO. WITH THIS REMAINING AS PART OF THE CLUTCH, ALL THE MECHANICS ONLINE SAID THE PROBLEM WILL REPEAT. *TR
AIR BAGS PROBLEM

- Summary: I HIT A CEMENT BARRIER MY CAR FLIPPED I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND HIT MY HEAD MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I ALREADY HAD THE AIRBAG FIXED ONCE IN THIS CAR. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT. I HAD JUST CALLED HYUNDAI TWO DAYS BEFORE TO TELL THEM I HAD READ NUMEROUS THINGS ON LINE WITH PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR BAG IN MY YEAR AND MAKE OF CAR. THEY TOLD ME IF I WANTED IT FIXED THEY WOULD CHARGE ME ANOTHER 100 DOLLARS. THEY KNEW OF THIS DEFECT AND NEVER TOLD ANYONE. THEY COULD HAVE PREVENTED SOME OF MY INJURIES. *TR

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-04-05
- VIN: KMHHN66F97U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I BOUGHT THIS 2007 HYUNDAI TIBURON IN AUGUST OF 2010 WITH 39,400 MILES. I HAD TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH WITHIN 1,500 MILES. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THAT WAS THE FIRST REPLACEMENT OR NOT. AT 62,100 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH AND FLYWHEEL AGAIN AT A COST OF $1,866.00. I 'M 60 YEARS OLD AND HAVE DRIVEN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH A CLUTCH BEFORE. WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS AGAINST HYUNDAI FOR THE FAILURE OF THIS PART IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THEY DO NOT HAVE TO RECALL THIS MODEL AND REPLACE THESE FAULTY CLUTCHES AND FLYWHEELS. *TR
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-09-03
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I LOVE MY LITTLE TIBERON. IT HAS BEEN THE ONLY NEW CAR I EVER HAD OR PROBABLY EVER WILL HAVE. I AM OVER 50 YEARS OLD AND BEEN DRIVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION FOREVER. SO WHEN THIS CLUTCH STARTED TO ACT UP, I STARTED TO CALL IN TO THE DEALERS. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. NOTHING UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY WANTED OVER $2000 TO EVEN START LOOKING AT IT. THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT IF THE FLYWHEEL WAS DAMAGED IT WOULD BE OVER $900 FOR THE PART ALONE. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING! AND NONE OF IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. NEEDLESS TO SAY I STARTED LOOKING AT TRADE IN AND BLUE BOOK VALUES. BUT I AM ATTACHED TO THIS CUTE LITTLE CAR THAT MY DYING HUSBAND LOVED TO TEASE ME ABOUT, SO I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC I TRUSTED. RESULT: THE CLUTCH IS FINE, STILL SHOWS 50000 PROBABLY STILL AVAILABLE. VALVES AND CONNECTORS ARE FINE. FLYWHEEL IS UNSCRATCHED AND SMOOTH BUT TOTALLY BROKEN. I HAVE THE PART. I CAN SHOW YOU. IN THE COLLAR WHERE THE DUAL MASS IS CONNECTED IT IS FRACTURED AND SNAPPED. MECHANIC SAYS THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE PART TO BREAK THERE UNLESS IT WAS BAD. AFTER RESEARCHING IT HE TOLD ME IT WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL WAS POORLY DESIGNED. THERE IS NO WAY I CAN AFFORD A NEW DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL. THE SHOP SAID THERE WAS A LAWSUIT OUT THERE TO HELP WITH REPAIRS DUE TO THIS DEFECT BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CONNECT WITH IT. I FOUND WHERE THERE IS LOTS OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE 2003 TIBERON LAWSUIT. DO YOU KNOW IF THERE IS A LAWSUIT REGARDING THE 2007 TIBERON FLYWHEEL? HOW CAN I GET MY NAME ONTO IT? *TR
POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-12-11
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: I AM THE SOLE DRIVER OF A 2007 TIBURON SE. TWO YEARS AGO, WITH ONLY 25,685 MILES ON IT, THE CAR HAD CLUTCH FAILURE, WAS JERKING WHEN GOING INTO 1ST GEAR, AND NOT GLIDING WHEN SWITCHING THROUGH THE OTHER GEARS. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP WEEK AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT DOWN TO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH WOULD TAKE ABOUT 7 HOURS TO DO, AND THEN THERE WOULD BE ABOUT A 10-30% CHANCE THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE DUE TO DRIVER ERROR, IN WHICH CASE, I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF DIAGNOSIS (ABOUT $700) PLUS THE REPAIR. IF THE PROBLEM WAS DEEMED TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART, THEN IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. MY FIRST CAR IN HIGH SCHOOL WAS A SIMCA (STICK SHIFT). THEN I DROVE A TOYOTA TRUCK, THEN A FORD RANGER TRUCK, THEN A FORD MUSTANG. ALL OF WHICH WERE STICK SHIFTS WHICH I DROVE ABOUT 7 YRS EACH, AND NONE OF WHICH EVER HAD A CLUTCH PROBLEM. TO BE TOLD THAT I MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM BY THE WAY THAT I DRIVE WAS SOMEWHAT INSULTING. DUE TO MY PERSISTENCE, THE CLUTCH WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. NOW 2 YRS LATER, THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED AGAIN, AND I AM BEING TOLD THE SAME THING BY HYUNDAI. I AM 54 YRS OLD WITH OVER 40 YRS EXPERIENCING OF DRIVING CARS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS! NOW THAT I SEE THAT THERE ARE SO MANY OTHERS WITH THIS ISSUE, APPARENTLY, A CLASS ACTION SUIT WAS SETTLED ON THE 2003 TIBURON CLUTCHES. THEY NO LONGER MAKE THE TIBURON, PERHAPS THERE WERE JUST TOO MANY ISSUES WITH THEM. PLEASE HELP; THIS IS HAPPENING TO TOO MANY PEOPLE AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-05-01
- VIN: KMHHN66FX7U
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: 2007 HYUNDAI TIBURON. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT GOES OFF AND ON. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MECHANIC HAS JUST "RESET" THE WARNING LIGHT. THE MECHANIC MENTIONED TO ME THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS. I ASKED WHY THERE WASN'T A RECALL, AND I GOT NO RESPONSE. NOW THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. WHY WOULDN'T THE AUTO MAKER FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY? WHY DOESN'T THE AUTO MANUFACTURER RECALL THESE VEHICLES? THIS IS NOT THE FIRST PROBLEM I HAVE HAD WITH THIS AUTO. THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS BAD TIRES. THEY KEPT GOING FLAT. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T DRIVE ENOUGH. I BOUGHT NEW TIRES MYSELF. THEY DON'T GO FLAT, EVEN THOUGH I STILL DON'T DRIVE A LOT. *TR
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-02-15
- VIN: KMHHN66F57U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: MY 2007 HYUNDAI TIBURON HAS 32,000 AND IS IN NEED OF IT'S SECOND CLUTCH. DEALERSHIP'S STANCE IS "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR." THIS VEHICLE IS NOT MY FIRST STICK SHIFT AND HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. ON-LINE RESEARCH SHOWS I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THE SAME CLUTCH PROBLEM FOR THE SAME VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP WANTS TO REPLACE THE DOUBLE FLYWHEEL WITH A SINGLE FLYWHEEL AT A COST TO FIX $1900, SINCE THE CLUTCH IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-01-18
- VIN: KMHHN66FX7U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I WAS PREVIOUSLY THE OWNER OF A 2003 HYUNDAI TIBURON AND HAD TO SPEND OVER $2000 TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH AT APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES. THERE HAS SINCE BEEN A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST HYUNDAI FOR THIS ISSUE AS THEY KNEW THE CLUTCH WAS FAULTY BUT INSISTED IT WAS THE DRIVER. I HAVE SINCE UPGRADED TO A 2007 TIBURON (BEFORE I KNEW OF THE SEVERITY OF THE CLUTCH PROBLEM) AND NOW AT 47,000 AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME CLUTCH ISSUES. AS I CAN'T AFFORD TO SELL THE CAR I HAVE TO PREPARE TO DUMP AN ADDITIONAL $2000 TO FIX THE ISSUE. *TR
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-12-28
- VIN: KMHHN66F47U
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: CLUTCH ON VEHICLE FAILED, WILL NOT CATCH GEARS TO PICK UP SPEED AND CONSTANTLY SLIPS GEARS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT. 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, 1ST BEING AT 17,000 MILES, HYUNDAI STATED WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE CLUTCH REPAIR DUE TO "USER ERROR", I WAS CHARGED $2500 TO REPAIR IT. AFTER TALKING TO NUMEROUS OTHER 2007 TIBURON OWNERS, SAME CLUTCH ISSUES ARE HAPPENING TO OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE.
2007 Hyundai Tiburon recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

The car looks even better in person than in the pictures! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. The standard features are really awesome, and it's so much fun to drive!
-
Only had the car a couple months and so far so good. Already put 1200 miles on it. It's great fun to drive and makes you feel like a kid again, but be careful with your speed. It's easy to overdo it and not even realize. My wife and I both love it. It's definitely a great buy for the money!
-
The Tiburon SE is definitely a head turner and a joy to drive! I always get lots of looks and questions about its make and model.
-
Once you get behind the wheel of the Tiburon, you'll understand why it's such a great value. With its sleek design and impressive performance, it looks and feels like a much more expensive car. Despite its affordable price, the Tiburon is a top contender in its class. I personally test drove several other cars in the same price range, but none of them compared to the Tiburon's fun and exciting driving experience. Plus, it's always a head-turner! The 2007 Tiburon GT is definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a new car.
-
The Tiburon SE is a great value for the money. It comes equipped with ESC, TCM, and a sport-tuned suspension, which gives it a much better ride than the GT. I have driven all the Tiburons and the SE is definitely the most fun to drive, earning 4 stars in the fun factor. I was considering the 350Z, but didn't want to pay an extra 7-10K for a car that seemed to handle the same as the SE. Storage was also a concern, but with 14.5 cubic feet in the back, there is plenty of room for a week on the road. While it may not be the fastest car in its price range, it certainly looks and feels like a sports car. In a world of boring bubble cars, this little hot rod stands out in the crowd.

Just got it and it has had all the injectors replaced for a second time. When I picked it up this time, the check engine light was still on! The dealer even left me without a car for 4 days. But when it runs, it's a great car. This is actually my second one (I had a 2004), and the first one was also a great car.
