2020 Mitsubishi Mirage g4 problems
The Mitsubishi Mirage is a range of cars produced by the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi from 1978 until 2003 and again since 2012. The hatchback models produced between 1978 and 2003 were classified as subcompact cars, while the sedan and station wagon models, marketed prominently as the Mitsubishi Lancer, were the compact offerings. The liftback introduced in 1988 complemented the sedan as an additional compact offering, and the coupé of 1991 fitted in with the subcompact range. The current Mirage model is a subcompact hatchback and sedan and it replaces the Mitsubishi Colt sold between 2002 and 2012.
Nameplate history
The Mirage has a complicated marketing history, with a varied and much convoluted naming convention that differed substantially depending on the market. Mitsubishi used the Mirage name for all five generations in Japan, with all but the first series badged as such in the United States. However, other markets often utilized the name Mitsubishi Colt and sedan variants of the Mirage have been widely sold as the Mitsubishi Lancer—including in Japan where the two retailed alongside one another. In Japan, the Mirage was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza.
In the United States and Canada, the first four generations were sold through a venture with Chrysler as the Dodge Colt and the similar Plymouth-badged Champ and Colt. Later, the venture brought the Eagle Vista and Summit branded models which sold alongside the aforementioned. Confusingly, Chrysler has also offered an unrelated Dodge Lancer at various stages between the 1950s and 1980s. However, when DaimlerChrysler briefly controlled Mitsubishi through the DaimlerChrysler-Mitsubishi alliance from 2000 through to 2004, the license to the "Lancer" name was relinquished to Mitsubishi for usage in North America. Thus, after the fifth and final generation Mirage, replacement models in North America have adopted the new name.
Mitsubishi introduced replacements for the fifth series of Mirage, starting in 2000 with a new generation of Lancer—now larger, having moved up to the compact segment. Then in 2002, a subcompact five-door hatchback badged Colt globally became available. By 2003, the Mirage and its derivatives had been completely phased out of mainstream Japanese production. For the 2002-era Colt's replacement in 2012, Mitsubishi decided to resurrect the Mirage name internationally for a new sixth generation model.
With the rising popularity of boxy subcompact SUVs in Japan, the Mirage nameplate was used on a domestic market-only model called the Mirage Dingo, from 1999. The Dingo was facelifted in 2001 and canceled in 2003. However, New Zealand sold a very different Mirage from 2002—a rebadged Dutch-manufactured Mitsubishi Space Star labeled Mirage Space Star. This vehicle was not very popular and was discontinued in 2003.

- Summary: I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2020. IT HAD 12 MILES ON IT AND TO MY KNOWLEDGE I WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER. ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2020 I TOOK THE VEHICLE ON A 3 HOUR DRIVE. WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 MILES PER HOUR, THE VEHICLE HIT A DECEASED SMALL ANIMAL (ROADKILL) WITH THE PASSENGER TIRE. THE VEHICLE THEN BECAME COMPLETELY DISABLED AS THE ENGINE STOPPED OPERATING. PER THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER, THE OBJECT WAS ABLE TO BOUNCE OFF OF THE ENGINE, AS IT IS NOT COVERED BY ANY PLATING, SHIELDING OR PROTECTION. AS THE VEHICLE SITS VERY LOW TO THE GROUND, THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER WAS SURPRISED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE THIS ENGINE PROTECTION AS A STANDARD MEASURE. AS A RESULT, THE SMALL OBJECT WHICH SHOULD HAVE JUST BOUNCED OFF THE CAR WAS ABLE TO CAUSE THE ENGINE TO COMPLETELY DISABLE AND NEED TO BE FULLY REPLACED. THE DAMAGE WAS OVER $9,900 IN TOTAL. IN CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS PARTICULAR MITSUBISHI CAR ONLY HAS A SMALL STRIP OF PLASTIC KICK PLATE UNDER THE BUMPER AREA, AND THERE IS NO PROTECTION AT ALL FROM ELEMENTS OR OTHERWISE TO THE ENGINE UNDERCARRIAGE. NO REMEDIES WERE OFFERED TO ME IN REGARD TO THE DEFECTIVE VEHICLE.

Great car for those on a budget, and the warranty means you don't have to worry about expensive repairs.

Very nice! It's good in gas and easy to park. Plus, it has a great stereo system.

I bought this car last August 2020 and so far, I haven't encountered any issues with it despite driving it every day. It definitely consumes less fuel and the air conditioning is amazing! Even with just 23 degrees and 2 fans, it already feels very cold. The only minor issue I've encountered is with the head unit/touch screen, as it sometimes doesn't work. However, I found that turning off the engine and restarting it usually does the trick. :)

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your vehicle! While it's true that this engine performs best with premium and mid-grade unleaded gas, it's great to know that you're not experiencing any maintenance issues even with extended use.

I purchased my car in December 2017, but unfortunately, I had to take it back to the dealership twice within the first four months to get the rear brakes readjusted. In April, they needed to be fixed again, but the dealership refused to readjust them until my next oil change. I continued to drive the car, but on September 10th, while driving at 45mph, I saw a car stopped to make a left turn and hit the brakes. Unfortunately, my brakes completely failed, and I was unable to stop in time, resulting in a collision with the other car. The impact was severe, and I ended up with a broken femur and had to have a rod placed in my leg. I am lucky to be alive, and I believe that the safety of the car needs to be reevaluated before someone else gets hurt. Many people who have seen the photos of the accident have expressed their concern, and I hope that this issue can be addressed soon.

The dealer brought out a new car from the lot, but unfortunately it wasn't the white one I had my heart set on. I was hoping to take it for a spin around the neighborhood, as it would be my regular commute. However, when I took my foot off the gas, the car just stopped. We tried another one, but it had the same issue. It's interesting how some people write about this car as if it's almost a BMW, but I'm not convinced. I think it's important to try it out for yourself and not just trust the 5-star reviews, as they could be misleading. Personally, I ended up going with a Yaris and I'm very happy with my decision!

I am sorry to hear about the issues you faced with your car. It must have been a scary experience to see it roll across the street and hit your neighbor's shed. It is disappointing that the manufacturer and the dealer did not provide the assistance you needed, especially since it was a new car with only 7,000 miles. It is understandable that you were frustrated and angry with the situation. I hope that you and your family were not hurt during this incident. It is unfortunate that you had to pay for the damages caused to your neighbor's shed. I can imagine how upsetting this whole experience must have been for you. Thank you for sharing your story with us. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration to improve our customer service relations in the future.

When I was a young adult buying my first brand new car, I was drawn to this car because of its affordable price tag and gas savings. While it may not be the most luxurious car out there, it still has some great features. The car's tiny 3 cylinder engine accelerates pretty well and it doesn't get blown around as much as comparable hatchbacks. Although the interior may not be the most stylish, there is plenty of space between the seats. The touch screen radio could be brighter, but it still gets the job done. While the eco boost can be a bit unpredictable, this car is still a great purchase for first time new car owners. However, if you're looking for a car that you'll love driving for many years to come, you may want to consider other options.
