Hyundai Tiburon problems

The Hyundai Tiburon (Korean: 현대 티뷰론) known in Europe as the Hyundai Coupé (현대 쿠페) is a sports coupe that was produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai from 1996 to 2008.
The name "Tiburon", a slight variation of "tiburón", the Spanish word for "shark", is the name given to the North American, Australian, New Zealand, South African, and Austrian production of the vehicle. It was known as the Hyundai Coupe in some European markets and Indonesia. It had been branded as the Turbulence (터뷸런스) and Tuscani (투스카니) in the home South Korean market.
The model had been released in two generations (RC) over its lifespan and in that time these generations have been subject to periodic facelifts. These facelifts have attempted to keep the car up to date with various safety improvements and a mixture of changes to exterior and interior styling. The RD Tiburon was in production for 5 years from 1996 to 2001. The GK Tiburon was introduced in 2002 (as a 2003 model) and ended production in 2008 before being replaced by the Hyundai Veloster.

- Report Received Date: 2013-04-01
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

I'm so glad I chose this car! It's quick, sexy, and stylish, and it never fails to turn heads. While it could use a bit more power, it's still impressive for a four-cylinder. I even almost beat my roommate's El Camino with it! Plus, it's been rear-ended twice and there was no damage, just a few scratches near the license plate lights. Driving this car is an absolute dream. My only slight regret is not getting the V-6 model, but I'm still very happy with my choice.

I absolutely love this car! I'm so glad I chose Hyundai, they really know how to make affordable cars. And the warranty is outstanding, you won't find a better deal anywhere else. I'm already looking forward to purchasing another one very soon.

I'm glad to hear that your car has been reliable so far, even after hitting a deer. It's great that you've only had to replace normal wear items and the battery, and that it still averages 35MPG on the highway. I can understand that there are a few design quirks, such as the cup holder and the funky tilt steering, but it's good to know that it's still a good hauler. It sounds like you've definitely gotten your money's worth out of this car!

I'm so glad to hear that your Tiburon is still running great even after 90,000 miles! It's impressive that you've only had to replace the battery once and got a tune-up at 60,000 miles. It sounds like you've taken great care of your car and it's paying off. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!

Vehicle year: 2001
I really like the look of the car and its pick up. However, I am not a fan of the tires. Why does it need a V rating? I was able to take it up to 148mph after installing an AEM cold air and a 2 1/2 catback. The cup holders and the room in the back are not my favorite. Unfortunately, I had a lot of problems with it. I had to replace the lights a couple of times and the motor in the window. The moonroof had a leak. Sometimes, when I turn up the music, the window won't go up or down. It's not the smoothest ride and it makes a lot of noise. Although I like the car at times, I would never buy one again and I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends.

I bought this car outright from a girl at 106,000 miles. I didn't pay much for it and it's such a gorgeous car. The girl took great care of it and only drove it in the summer. She mentioned that Hyundais have a lot of problems and she had to replace many parts, which is why she sold it to me for cheap. Unfortunately, after 4 months, things started to go wrong. The brakes gave out, even though I hardly ever use them since I gear down with my standard. Then everything seemed fine, but now my brakes are giving out AGAIN, along with my clutch. My car burns oil like crazy, but when I bring it in, they say there's no leak. Today, when I got home from work and pulled my e-brake, my check engine light suddenly came on and won't go away. It's been a frustrating experience with this car.

I love my car! When they first came out, I was immediately drawn to the dark navy blue color and the sleek body style. I've had it for over 7 years now and it still has less than 60K mileage on it. However, after driving it for about 40K miles, I noticed that the clutch wasn't performing as well as it used to. After doing some research, I discovered that the manufacturer had installed a clutch delay mechanism in the master cylinder to prevent overheating if you drive aggressively. I removed the clutch delay and now it's responding much better without any lag.

The clutch failure at 30,000 miles is not covered by the original or extended warranty. However, we can fix it for $1055. As the owner of the car for 7 months, we understand your frustration. We assure you that we will do our best to resolve the issue and provide you with a reliable vehicle. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my Hyundai. Unfortunately, I had some issues with it from the beginning and it even failed inspection. I don't want to discredit Hyundai because they have made great strides, but this particular car didn't meet my expectations. I have heard that the newer models are much better, but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable purchasing another one.

Vehicle year: 2006
I've been through a lot with this car. The color and style of the car always got attention. I've had it for 4 years now. The first year was good, but then the radiator went out and had to be replaced. The brakes were complicated and I took it to two places, but they couldn't fix them and it was costly. Finally, I started taking it to Sears Auto because they can do the brakes very well with this car. Then the driver's side door went out and I had to climb in and out of the car for a while until I finally got it fixed by a mechanic. The tires were replaced many times in this car. It's a gas guzzler, unfortunately. When it came to the 4th year at 114,000 miles, it failed to pass smog because the cat and O2 oxygen sensor were causing the monitors to fail when going for smog. I drove it many miles and took it to many places, but no one could fix it. I was sad because the love of my life was driving and dependable and still working. Also, I now had another addition to my family and this car was getting too small for us. I took it to Hyundai and ended up walking out with a 2015 Hyundai Sonata.
