The Hyundai Genesis (Korean: 현대 제네시스) is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Hyundai Motor Company over two generations from 2008 until 2016, before it was renamed the Genesis G80. It is a five-passenger, four-door, rear- or all-wheel-drive sedan.

Introduced in concept form at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, and internally designated as the BH model, the Genesis was expected to cost $533 million to develop. Hyundai began marketing the first generation Genesis worldwide (except in Europe) in 2008 as a "premium sports sedan". The second generation Genesis (model DH) debuted in Seoul, Korea in November 2013 followed by the 2014 North American International Auto Show and Toronto Auto Show.

On 4 November 2015, Hyundai announced that the name Genesis and Hyundai's second generation luxury model would move to a new and separate luxury division, Genesis Motor. The Genesis — as a Hyundai model — was replaced in actuality in 2017 when the second generation Hyundai Genesis was renamed the G80. The move followed the model's success in the luxury market, paired with consumer acceptance of the Genesis nameplate.

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-06-23
  • VIN: KMHGC4DE8BU
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: The HECU has been malfunctioning in my car for over a year now. It is an open recall for my make, model and year of car. I took it to Bob Rohrman Indy Hyundai and they diagnosed the failed part. This part affects my ABS. There are currently two warning lights on one for the ECS which is the traction control stabilizer and the ABS light is on. Meaning the use of the breaking system is limited and not working properly. I have asked the corporate Hyundai to uphold the recall warranty but I was advised they would not cover this because my vehicle has a rebuilt title. I drive my vehicle on a daily basis and I’m terrified of my brakes going out. The corrosion from the fluid is what causes the HECU to malfunction and it is so scary to think about. This problem was diagnosed and first reported to my his dealership on 6/23/2022.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-18
  • VIN: KMHGC4DF8BU
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: The window regulators are built with a hard plastic that essentially melts in Florida heat and then your windows just drop. Each window in my car has dropped and will not go back up without paying Hyundai a lot of money to repair the window. For instance, in December 2022 I paid Hyundai $660 to repair the right rear window and in August 2022 I paid Hyundai $651 to repair the left rear window regulator (second repair). Now the front driver side window has to be repaired for the second or third time. The parts were ordered and just the parts will cost $900 and I still will have to pay the labor expenses for inferior made materials. The driver side window was replaced and a new regulator was installed by Napleton Hyundai in West Palm Beach. I do not have the paperwork for the repairs made by Napleton. Then Coastal Hyundai in Melbourne, Florida worked on the rest of the windows including putting in a new regulator in the driver side and will install a new motor. These windows are neither reliable nor safe and should not have been constructed with plastic. They just fall and will not go back up. The window parts should have been recalled and replaced. I attached a copy of the invoices that I have paid already and could locate. Also, I want to report that when I contacted Hyundai to issue a complaint about the right rear window in December 2022 it took 30 days for the customer service representative to respond to me. He apparently, would document that he planned to call me in the computer and never followed through. I called and asked to talk to his Supervisor and was told that I would have to talk with him. Not having a Supervisor to talk with was also a problem because he knew that I could only talk to him so he took his time. I don't know if anything will be done but I wanted to document my concerns.

The contact firmly depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact changed the brake fluid; however, the failure recurred. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V489000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.

The car is now a total loss.

THE DEALER IS NOW QUOTING ME ~$3,400 TO REPAIR AND REPLACE THE HYDRAULIC MODULE ASSY. WOW!! I CALLED HYUNDAI USA AND THEY SAID SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR, I INFORMED THEM OF THE RECALL ON FLUID AND THEY SAID IT DOES NOT COVER THE PARTS THAT WERE DAMAGED BY THE BAD FLUID. 2011 Hyundai Genesis recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2011 Hyundai Genesis.

2014-11-07
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2009-2011 Hyundai Genesis vehicles manufactured April 30, 2008, to November 21, 2010, and 2011 Hyundai Equus vehicles manufactured July 31, 2010, to November 21, 2010. Due to a circuit failure, the stop lamps in the affected vehicles may not illuminate.
  • Consequence: A following vehicle may not recognize that the vehicle is slowing or coming to a stop if the stop lamps on the vehicle do not illuminate as expected. There is an increased risk of a rear-end crash as a result.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will repair the stop lamp switch circuit, free of charge. Hyundai issued an interim notification to owners on January 6, 2015. The recall began on March 23, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 125.
2013-10-29
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FLUID
  • Summary: Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 Genesis vehicles manufactured April 30, 2008, through March 28, 2012. The vehicles may contain brake fluid which does not protect against corrosion of the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU).
  • Consequence: If the module corrodes, reduced brake effectiveness may result, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners and instruct them to bring their vehicle to a dealer for service. Hyundai will inspect the HECU module for proper operation, and will replace the modules as necessary. Hyundai will replace the factory brake fluid in those vehicles that have not previously had the factory brake fluid replaced. These repairs will be done free of charge. The recall began on December 24, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151 or by email at [email protected]. Hyundai's recall number is 114.
2013-04-01
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
  • Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

Negative 2011 Hyundai Genesis car reviews

  1. Alvis Wehner 2024-07-09

This car has had some issues, but I am confident in its overall quality. While it has required some maintenance, I have taken care of the necessary repairs and am satisfied with its performance. However, I am currently experiencing an issue with the radio and navigation system that I hope can be resolved soon.

  2. Enid Hyatt 2024-05-13

Hyundai places a strong emphasis on their warranty when promoting their cars. However, it is important to do your research before making a purchase. I recommend spending some time at the dealership's service department to gain a better understanding of their policies. By doing so, you can avoid any potential issues down the line. It is important to note that in some cases, there may be misunderstandings regarding warranty coverage. In these situations, Hyundai works with their customers to find a resolution. Overall, it is important to be informed and make the best decision for your individual needs.

Positive 2011 Hyundai Genesis car reviews

  1. Earl Gorczany 2024-11-14

My previous cars were Audi, BMW and Infiniti. The Genesis is easily in the same class. The ride is very nice. It's not so soft that it floats, but it's stiff enough to handle well. It's also very quiet and has all the features that you would want.

  2. Baron Harris 2024-11-08

Although I have received many compliments on the car's design, I am disappointed that all of the electrical components have failed. It would be great to have the ability to keep my phone charging while driving, especially since I use it frequently while on the road. However, I must say that this car has been wonderful for us. We purchased it used and it has exceeded our expectations. The acceleration is powerful and the head room is far more comfortable than our previous Lexus 350. The headrests are also comfortably located without being intrusive, allowing us to sit upright while driving. Overall, the Genesis has a great safety record and a beautiful styling. My family members have also been impressed with the ride and extremely comfortable rear seating and leg room.

  3. Theodore Swaniawski 2024-11-08

I used to say that I would only ever buy a BMW, but when I drove this car, I was convinced otherwise. I'll never sell my manual trans 735, it's a classic, but this car has 'it'. If you don't care about snob appeal, this is the car to buy, hands down. It has plenty of power, interior comfort, and is a great 'long drive' car. For me, the build quality surpasses current model BMWs and feels much better made. I purchased a CPO with 45K miles and have put 40K miles on it this year, and I have yet to be disappointed.

  4. Reinhold Cruickshank 2024-11-01

The Hyundai Genesis offers a gentle ride and smooth engines that cocoon the driver from the road. The cabin feels more luxurious than many similarly-priced cars from more traditional luxury brands. Inside, the Genesis seems more like a $50,000 competitor to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class than a $30,000 competitor to its less-luxurious C-Class cousin.

  5. Baron Thiel 2024-08-18

There is just something about some cars that makes you want to have an excuse to drive them. The Hyundai Genesis sedan with the 4.6 V8 is one hell of a fun car to drive. The quality is equal to or better than our BMW and our previous car, an Acura. It also looks right at home at the Atlanta Athletic Club. Don't be a snob and discount this car because it is a Hyundai. Drive it and judge for yourself.
