2013 Hyundai Genesis problems
The Hyundai Genesis (Korean: 현대 제네시스) is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Hyundai Motor Company over two generations from 2008 until 2016, before it was renamed the Genesis G80. It is a five-passenger, four-door, rear- or all-wheel-drive sedan.
Introduced in concept form at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, and internally designated as the BH model, the Genesis was expected to cost $533 million to develop. Hyundai began marketing the first generation Genesis worldwide (except in Europe) in 2008 as a "premium sports sedan". The second generation Genesis (model DH) debuted in Seoul, Korea in November 2013 followed by the 2014 North American International Auto Show and Toronto Auto Show.
On 4 November 2015, Hyundai announced that the name Genesis and Hyundai's second generation luxury model would move to a new and separate luxury division, Genesis Motor. The Genesis — as a Hyundai model — was replaced in actuality in 2017 when the second generation Hyundai Genesis was renamed the G80. The move followed the model's success in the luxury market, paired with consumer acceptance of the Genesis nameplate.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-11
- VIN: KMHHU6KJ6DU
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I received the letter to call the dealership to fix the recall involving the anti-lock break system. I called my local dealership in Enfield, CT and they had me bring my car in on Thursday [XXX]. So I made arrangements to leave my car there for the day. I get a call in the afternoon stating that they didn’t have the part to fix it and they would have to get it. So after being inconvenienced by not having my car for the day, the problem wasn’t even fixed. So after a couple of weeks of not hearing anything from the dealership, I called to check on it. They still didn’t have the part. So now it’s August 19th and I called again to check on it and there’s still no part to fix it. This is very discouraging since I drive this car often and there’s a fire risk of it being parked or driving. I don’t really understand what is going. Is there no part to fix the recall? SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

- Summary: recall issued for significant fire risk from ABS system. It has been over a year now and Hyundai will not even give a time estimate of when they will offer to replace the fuse block that is the fire risk. They tell me to just park my car far from any buildings?!? This is NOT a reasonable plan nor should it be this long. Waiting for the day my car combusts is not reasonable. NHTSA recommended that the dealer offer a loaner vehicle but they have not done that either.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-26
- VIN: KMHHT6KD7DU

- Summary: Was driving home from work, turned at intersection and car just died while in motion/traffic. No check engine line, no low oil indicator, no overheat, no warning whatsoever. Was able to coast to adjacent intersection and police officer helped push off to side. Tried to restart but engine just wouldn’t turn over. Electrical fine, dashboard lit up. Towed it to my mechanic and he suspected either alternator or intercooler hose failure. But when he checked it out, nothing, inexplicably could not get engine to crank. I’ve religiously babied this car with AMS Oil Full Synthetic - Signature Series SAE 5W-30 every 7.5k-8k miles, premium gas, regularly maintained. Though I am at high mileage (121,873 mi), I honestly expected longer life for the engine. I just got no warning whatsoever. The contact stated the vehicle has exceeded 100k mi warranty by 20k, and wondering what further actions can be taken to get Hyundai to investigate a possible warranty or even partially warranty for repairs.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-08
- VIN: KMHHT6KD2DU
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Intermittent softening of brake pedal when applying pressure to brake while driving and when parked. The brake pedal becomes soft where the vehicle does not slow down because the brake is not applied until you push further. Applying full pressure on the brakes sometimes does not bring the vehicle to a complete stop. This is unsafe because when driving on the highway and traffic comes to a sudden stop, the time for my car to come to a complete stop is significantly and dangerously delayed. If driver does not keep a distance that is more than normal, vehicle has the possibility of crashing and putting the driver and other vehicles near in danger. When taken to Clay Clooney Hyundai of Mesquite, they did not acknowledge recall because there is no remedy for it. The failure of the brake pressurization began early summer of 2023. The vehicle is ready for an inspection to resolve the recall upon request.

Hello! I wanted to share my experience with Hyundai of Asheville, NC. I purchased my Hyundai Genesis from them back in Sept. 2013 and paid a little over $50,000 for it after taxes and add ons. I must say, it rides and drives like a dream! However, due to a sudden neurological disorder, I have been finding it increasingly difficult to get in and out of the Genesis as it is quite low to the ground. After some research, I have decided to trade it in for a Santa Fe Limited, which would be much easier for me to access. While I did experience some depreciation with the Genesis, I believe this is a common issue with many vehicles. Overall, I would recommend Hyundai of Asheville for their great selection and customer service. Thank you for reading!

I would definitely buy another Geneses.

We were thrilled to purchase our dream luxury car, the 2013 Hyundai Genesis, due to its excellent price for the standard equipment and options, top-notch crash results comparable to Mercedes, and the unbeatable warranty. However, after a few months of driving, we noticed that the air conditioner was not keeping the car cool after 2 hours of driving, which made our road trips uncomfortable. Despite taking the car back to the dealership multiple times, the issue was not resolved. We understand that the dealership has to follow certain procedures, but we were disappointed that they were unable to find a solution for our brand new car. We hope that in the future, they will be able to provide better customer service and support. It's frustrating that the car's air conditioner stops working after an hour and a half of continuous driving, and unfortunately, the dealership was unable to duplicate the issue during the three summers we brought it in for repair. Despite this ongoing issue, we still believe that the Genesis is a great car with many wonderful amenities. However, without a functioning air conditioner, it's difficult to fully enjoy the car's features. Our Genesis is now almost 5 years old and has 39,100 miles on it, and unfortunately, it's out of warranty. We would highly recommend the Genesis to anyone looking for a great car, but we do hope that the air conditioning issue can be resolved for future models.

I purchased a Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec on 09/07/2013. Unfortunately, within a month (10/04/2013), I noticed that the rubber lining on the driver's side door had come off. I was disappointed that this had happened, especially when I compared it to my 18-year-old Honda Civic, which cost one third of the price of the Genesis and is still in good condition with all its liners intact. I received a response from their customer support, but it did not seem to be written by someone in customer support. The language used was not apologetic and seemed to suggest that the problem was due to customer misuse.

I researched the car for a few years before finally purchasing it. However, I made the mistake of buying it used from Carmax. Fortunately, I had purchased the extended warranty, but unfortunately, I had a very unprofessional experience with Carmax service. I would not recommend them. After driving 100k miles, the car started experiencing multiple issues such as transmission, timing chain, tensioner, and even the catalytic converter. This was a serious let down compared to my other older vehicles that have been more reliable. Despite having only 134k miles on it and having all services done, I am seriously afraid to keep it. Needless to say, I am very disappointed.

I bought this car about two weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with it so far. The cabin is quiet and the car is very powerful, which makes driving it a lot of fun. However, we recently had our first glimpse of snow which resulted in a light dusting. Unfortunately, this incredible car was completely immobilized in a parking lot by a dusting of snow! I was nervous about purchasing a RWD vehicle because of this exact thing, but my fears were assuaged by the salesman and online reviews, all of which suggested that RWD vehicles have come a long way and are no longer a complete liability in bad weather. I still really enjoy driving this vehicle, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who wants to use it as their primary vehicle in areas where you may see even a little snow or ice.
