The Hyundai Genesis (Korean: 현대 제네시스) is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Hyundai Motor Company over two generations from 2008 until 2016, before it was renamed the Genesis G80. It is a five-passenger, four-door, rear- or all-wheel-drive sedan.
Introduced in concept form at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, and internally designated as the BH model, the Genesis was expected to cost $533 million to develop. Hyundai began marketing the first generation Genesis worldwide (except in Europe) in 2008 as a "premium sports sedan". The second generation Genesis (model DH) debuted in Seoul, Korea in November 2013 followed by the 2014 North American International Auto Show and Toronto Auto Show.
On 4 November 2015, Hyundai announced that the name Genesis and Hyundai's second generation luxury model would move to a new and separate luxury division, Genesis Motor. The Genesis — as a Hyundai model — was replaced in actuality in 2017 when the second generation Hyundai Genesis was renamed the G80. The move followed the model's success in the luxury market, paired with consumer acceptance of the Genesis nameplate.

- Summary: Factory recall 24V-107: On [XXX] took car to Haselwood Hyundai of Bremerton WA. for MANF. recall Genesis Starter Solenoid water contamination. Recall was completed in 2 hours when driving home car went into emergency mode and shut down on freeway with completely dead battery. Was told by dealership they would not pay 1200 tow bill. Applied for AAA membership and was approved. Car was towed back to dealership on August 28th with approx. 100 miles driven since Aug 9th. Dealership had no idea that costs would be reimbursed by Hyundai. Had they known this the car would have been towed ASAP after breakdown. Note: This vehicle had no issues prior to this factory recall being installed. On August 29 service adviser Brandon said Alternator and battery needed replacement. This made no sense because car had no electrical problems prior to factory install. Authorized dealer to replace this equipment if necessary since I would be reimbursed. Sept 2nd Paid dealer $1,567.00 for repairs. After leaving dealer car ran for 62 miles went into emergency mode with completely dead battery. Sept 3rd car again towed into dealership. My car has run for a total of 4 hours since Aug 9th factory recall repair. I've been without transportation going on 4 weeks because of this incident. Hence, I write to text to you asking for assistance in getting this incident over with. I thank you in advance for your time and interest in this request. - Summary: I received the letter to call the dealership to fix the recall involving the anti-lock break system. I called my local dealership in Enfield, CT and they had me bring my car in on Thursday [XXX]. So I made arrangements to leave my car there for the day. I get a call in the afternoon stating that they didn’t have the part to fix it and they would have to get it. So after being inconvenienced by not having my car for the day, the problem wasn’t even fixed. So after a couple of weeks of not hearing anything from the dealership, I called to check on it. They still didn’t have the part. So now it’s August 19th and I called again to check on it and there’s still no part to fix it. This is very discouraging since I drive this car often and there’s a fire risk of it being parked or driving. I don’t really understand what is going. Is there no part to fix the recall? Vehicle year: 2012
When searching for a car, the first thing I consider is its appearance. Then, I compare it to other cars to see how it stacks up. After researching various brands, including BMW, Mercedes, Infinity, and Lexus, I ultimately decided to purchase a Hyundai. It was the best value for the price, an incredible deal at only 17K. My wife and I bought the car when we thought our family was complete with four members, but we later found out we were expecting our third child. Despite the unexpected addition, our silver 3.8 Sedan with black leather and great technology (minus GPS, which can make a car look outdated in a few years) has been a great fit for our family of five. While we could use a bit more space, we can't imagine trading in our Genesis for a minivan. The interior has held up well, and the black-on-black color scheme is timeless. In terms of performance, the car is only half a second slower than the 2012 5.0 Rspec and just 0.4 seconds slower than the 2015 5.0 Sedan. It's also a full second faster than the 2015 Hyundai Genesis. I believe that in the quarter mile, the 3.8 car would beat the 5.0 Rspec. As for maintenance, I replaced the back tires with Tiger Paws, but the fronts are still original. I took the car to the dealership once for some malfunctioning lights in the cabin, and I've done routine maintenance on it. We've taken many trips in the car, including to Orlando, Birmingham, Greenville, SC, and Houston, and we just returned from Orlando, where we averaged 35 miles per gallon with a car full of electronics, toys, and luggage.I am completely happy with this car and would recommend it to anyone. I also wanted to let you know that you could get a great deal on a used one that's a few years old and costs less than half the price!

Great value! I'm so glad that the 60,000 mile warranty on the transmission paid off for you. At 58,750 miles, mine needed to be replaced too, and I was also the second owner. However, my local Hyundai dealer took care of it with no charge. I have had some occasional issues with the electric windows, but overall I'm happy with my purchase.

After reading Edmund's reviews and spec's, I took a closer look at consumer ratings and overall satisfaction. As someone who previously owned a Toyota Avalon, I was planning on going back to it. However, after seeing the numerous features and amenities that the Genesis has to offer, I was blown away. When I visited the dealership, they had both Toyota and Hyundai cars on display, and it was clear that the Genesis was the superior choice.

This car is a clear winner. The Acura RL was my favorite car, but unfortunately it was totaled in an accident. I have driven the Mercedes E, BMW 5, Lexus GS, and others, but if they were all the same price, I would choose this car. It has more legroom than a BMW 750i, a quieter cabin than a Mercedes S class, and the same horsepower, acceleration, and MPG as a Lexus LS460. The torque curve is linear and there is plenty of power. With a V8 and tech package, it costs under $40k and comes with a 10-year warranty. The build quality and refinement are excellent, comparable to a Lexus. My only minor complaints are that there should be more wood trim inside (although they may be holding back to not outshine the upcoming Equus) and the suspension transmits a little too much input to the passengers on imperfect roads.

The Hyundai Genesis Sedan is an excellent choice for a used car. I have previously owned big, heavy V8, rear-wheel drive cars, but the Genesis is incredibly refined. The cabin noise is almost non-existent, which is especially noticeable on the highway. The drive is quiet and smooth, with a transmission that shifts seamlessly. The luxury sedan has plenty of power, making it a joy to drive. Unlike some BMWs and Mercedes that can be overly showy, the Genesis is a comfortable, quiet, and smooth car that has proven to be extremely reliable. Even with 130,000 miles on it, my Genesis sedan still looks and feels like it just came out of the showroom. If you spend a lot of time on the road, I highly recommend springing for the optional Technology Package, Premium Package, and Premium Plus Package. These packages include a fantastic navigation system with the same type of I-Drive found in BMW and Lexus, a top-notch sound system made by Lexicon (only found in Rolls Royce), and a variety of creature comforts like heated/cooled seats and perforated leather. If you're not interested in blending in with the wannabe BMW and Lexus drivers who finance ridiculously expensive cars that don't have half of the options, give the Genesis a try.

In January 2018, I opened a Lemon Law Case with the Better Business Bureau (BBB Auto Line) and followed all the required procedures meticulously. Since the case was heard remotely, the arbitrator could not personally evaluate the noise complaint. However, an independent expert dispatched by the BBB Auto Line Representative heard the whining noise as described in my complaint immediately upon decelerating and even identified the probable cause and location. Long story short, I won the case and Hyundai had to refund the full purchase price and take the car back as a lemon. It was disappointing that Hyundai put a long-time loyal customer through this laborious and time-consuming process instead of simply replacing the transmission. However, I was determined to follow through to the conclusion. After an extensive test drive of a 2018 Genesis G80, I bought it. Time will tell, but this one has absolutely NO whining noise at any speed! In July 2017, I was finally able to convince the dealer and Hyundai Customer Care to have their traveling engineer drive the car and assess the noise. After he drove it, he authorized replacement of the differential. Unfortunately, the noise persisted even after the repair, and I decided to open a case with the Better Business Bureau Auto Line.One of the procedures using the BBB is that I have to send a Motor Vehicle Defect Notification Form by accountable mail direct to Hyundai in California. According to the instructions I received, they have to contact me within 10 days after receipt of my form to schedule an appointment for a final assessment. Unfortunately, they didn't contact me. I notified BBB Auto Line of that and they reopened the case. To make a long story short, I and the car are now in Virginia for the summer, but the noise persists to such a point that I want to park it and not drive it. I'm disappointed that Hyundai is not being very responsive and I'm losing hope that this whole process will come to an end before the warranty expires. Lesson learned? Definitely for me! The car is one of the nicest looking and comfortable cars I've ever owned. However, I have one major concern. When I test drove this car, I admit I was distracted by the comfortable ride, all the gadgets and technology and wasn't specifically listening for strange noises. Who would expect to hear any noise while driving the flagship model? After a couple of days of driving the car with the radio on, I took it for a drive one day and for some reason, I didn't turn the radio on. During this trip, I heard this strange 'whining' sound that appeared to be coming from behind the driver's seat. At the time I first heard it, I was decelerating from about 45 MPH. The noise persisted until I reached 35 MPH then it stopped. Thinking I was hearing things, I drove on a smoother road up to about 45 MPH then decelerated. The noise was immediately noticeable again and continued to 35 MPH. I took it back to the Hyundai dealer who test drove the car and came to the conclusion that the noise was 'road noise' and was 'normal'.undefined

I purchased a 4.6 LOADED brand new after reading great reviews, but unfortunately, I have had a negative experience with it over the past 2 years. However, I want to assure you that I am a real person and not a representative from a competing car company like BMW. The tires needed to be replaced at only 12,000 miles, and the key needs to be within 1 foot or placed in the slot to operate the pushbutton start. Additionally, the car performs poorly in snowy and wet conditions due to its rear-wheel drive, and the backup camera only works 50% of the time. I was also disappointed to find out that I needed a Hyundai brand I-Pod cable to connect my I-Pod (which cost an extra $75), as this was not mentioned before. The transmission shifting has been a nightmare and quite embarrassing. There have been frequent updates for the stereo, but overall, I have had a negative experience with this car.

Although I love my car, I have unfortunately experienced several issues with it. Despite having the radio replaced four times, repairing the AC, replacing the radar, rack and pinion, fuel pump, and fuel purge valve, the car is still not performing as expected. I am currently in the process of filing a lemon law claim with Hyundai, as I believe this is the best course of action. While the process can be lengthy, I am determined to see it through and will not give up. In the meantime, I have shared my experience with others and have even convinced two people not to purchase a Hyundai. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The car has experienced several issues, including non-repairable transmission shifting problems, drivers seat cushion requiring repair four times, Dunlop tires causing noise and vibration due to edge wear, sunlight blocking the navigation screen and backup camera, window washers only spraying the lower half of the windshield, half the windshield fogging up in moist weather, windshield wiper blade rubbing even after replacement, and no light under the hood. These issues have been identified and can be addressed with confidence.

Although the car experienced a complete shutdown while driving, the dealer has taken full responsibility for the issue and is replacing the engine with a brand new one at no cost. Their service has been exceptional, and they are even sending the old engine back to their factory for further investigation. While I appreciate their efforts, I have decided to sell the car as I no longer feel confident in its reliability. Thank you for your understanding.
