Hyundai Genesis problems

The Hyundai Genesis (Korean: 현대 제네시스) is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Hyundai Motor Company over two generations from 2008 until 2016, before it was renamed the Genesis G80. It is a five-passenger, four-door, rear- or all-wheel-drive sedan.
Introduced in concept form at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, and internally designated as the BH model, the Genesis was expected to cost $533 million to develop. Hyundai began marketing the first generation Genesis worldwide (except in Europe) in 2008 as a "premium sports sedan". The second generation Genesis (model DH) debuted in Seoul, Korea in November 2013 followed by the 2014 North American International Auto Show and Toronto Auto Show.
On 4 November 2015, Hyundai announced that the name Genesis and Hyundai's second generation luxury model would move to a new and separate luxury division, Genesis Motor. The Genesis — as a Hyundai model — was replaced in actuality in 2017 when the second generation Hyundai Genesis was renamed the G80. The move followed the model's success in the luxury market, paired with consumer acceptance of the Genesis nameplate.

- Fuel Leaks: Certain 2021 Genesis G80 and GV80 vehicles equipped with 2.5-litre turbo engines may have a fuel leak due to a faulty fuel tube connecting the high pressure fuel pump to the fuel rail.
- Malfunctioning Brakes: The Hyundai Genesis has been reported to have issues with the brakes, which can be dangerous if they fail to function properly while driving.
- Windshields Cracking: The Hyundai Genesis has been reported to have issues with windshields cracking, which can be unsightly and may require costly repairs.

- Suspension Problems: The Hyundai Genesis has been reported to have issues with the suspension, which can affect the car's handling and stability.
In summary, the Hyundai Genesis has been reported to have several common problems, particularly in the electrical and powertrain categories. - Summary: I received the letter to call the dealership to fix the recall involving the anti-lock break system. I called my local dealership in Enfield, CT and they had me bring my car in on Thursday [XXX]. So I made arrangements to leave my car there for the day. I get a call in the afternoon stating that they didn’t have the part to fix it and they would have to get it. So after being inconvenienced by not having my car for the day, the problem wasn’t even fixed. So after a couple of weeks of not hearing anything from the dealership, I called to check on it. They still didn’t have the part. So now it’s August 19th and I called again to check on it and there’s still no part to fix it. This is very discouraging since I drive this car often and there’s a fire risk of it being parked or driving. I don’t really understand what is going. Is there no part to fix the recall? Overall, this is an impressive automobile and a good value. It seeks to emulate much more expensive sedans from Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes, and it comes closer in some areas than others. Some aspects of the car are exceptional - perhaps superior to its more costly competitors - but in other areas, not so much. It's a lot of car for the money and superior in many ways to equal-cost competitors, but don't expect it to equal cars costing $10, 20, or 30k more... not yet.

Miracle! I needed a bigger car and I absolutely love Audis and 3-series BMWs, but unfortunately, I couldn't afford their larger models. However, this car has amazing power and performance for its size. Although it may not be as quiet or rock solid as an Audi, the price is unbeatable! If you're looking for absolute rock solid, then an Audi is the way to go. But if you're looking for a pretty rock solid car that's a stone cold bargain, then this is the perfect ride for you. It matches Audi on features and comfort, and is almost there on driving dynamics. While it may not be as quiet as a Buick, it's still a pretty quiet car. If you need whisper silence, you can either spend a lot of money on an Audi or get a stereo installer to Dynamat your Genesis. I'm considering the latter option, as it'll probably be quiet as a tomb after that, for minimal cost.

This car has been a great car, competitive with other luxury cars. Despite the large engine and horsepower, the only shortcoming is a distinct lag in acceleration.

The car is really beautiful and has lots of nice features. The sound system is great and the gas mileage on the highway is exactly what is on the sticker. Although, I have noticed that the leather seats are not holding up as well as I had hoped. After only one month and 1700 miles, the driver's seating surface appears puffy and not tightly stretched like when I first bought it. I took it back to the dealer and the service manager showed me other vehicles with the same leather seats experiencing the same issue. While I do wish the leather seating would hold up better for the price of the vehicle, I must say that the dealer I bought the vehicle from was great to deal with.

I'm thrilled every time I get behind the wheel of the Genesis. The engine performs nicely and is very well coordinated with the smooth-shifting transmission. The handling and ride are perfectly balanced. The Genesis offers extraordinary value compared to prestige brands. I've owned cars from other brands and driven their latest offerings, but the Genesis is a supremely sophisticated car for a lot less money. I love the car, and I always get a lot of compliments and questions about it. It's a truly rewarding driving experience, and I feel smarter every day.

I purchased my Genesis 3.8 sedan Certified Pre-owned from a local dealer here in Central Florida with less than 10k miles. It handles well and has sufficient power for a V6 engine. Overall, I rate it above average, but there are a couple of issues that I have encountered. One of them is a bit annoying, while the other is actually dangerous. Let me start with the annoying one. The radio switches modes on its own when I first start driving, which can be frustrating. However, I did a system reset this morning and will test it tonight to see if it fixed the problem. The second issue is more serious. During my early morning road trips across the state in the fall when the outside temperature is in the 40s, the system will suddenly switch to hot/humid air blowing at a high rate, which immediately fogs up the inside of the car. This can be dangerous when I'm driving at 70 mph and suddenly can't see the road in front of me. I took the car to the dealer, but they couldn't reproduce the problem. After reading the manual, I discovered that the car has an automatic defogger function that can be toggled on or off, so I turned it off and will test it on Saturday morning when I take my road trip. I don't recall this happening in the summer months, which I assume is because the outside temperature is warmer. I've read some blogs related to the 2015 Genesis and found that many owners are having radio problems. Unfortunately, the radio and other electronics are not covered on the 5 year 60k mile warranty, but rather 3 year/36k miles. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my Genesis and look forward to my next road trip!It sounds like there may be some isolated issues or certain conditions that are causing the problem, but it's not entirely clear. While it's a nice car, it may not quite measure up to the standards of a Mercedes, BMW, or Audi. If given the chance to do it over, I would not have purchased the first year of a total redesign due to the numerous bugs and potential issues. Regarding the radio bug, I tested it again after resetting it and unfortunately it still switched modes on its own. It's important to note that my family has owned several vehicles with the same audio options, including radio, Bluetooth, and CD, and none of them have had this issue. While it seems like the radio should be replaced, it's unfortunately out of warranty and would cost several thousand dollars. I will test the auto defog in the morning and hope that switching it off will eliminate this dangerous malfunction. I will provide more updates as they become available. Update: After doing some research, I was able to fix both problems myself since the dealer could not or would not. The radio logic was apparently corrupted when I accepted the one free week of Sirius Satellite. I read on a blog site that some Genesis owners were experiencing the same problem soon after the free trial. The fix was simple; unplug the fuse that protects the infotainment system for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. The problem has not occurred since I did that simple fix. With regard to the fogging problem, I just turned off the auto defog system (because it didn't work anyway) and that problem went away. While it's a nice car with plenty of power (V6) and a smooth ride, I do expect more from a car in that price range that Hyundai states is comparable to other high-end vehicles. I did leave out one other annoying thing that happens: the door that covers the gas cap will not open on most occasions. I am forced to open the trunk and manually pull the back-up cord to open it. I've had the dealer attempt to fix it twice with no luck. It's disappointing that a high-end car has this type of problem. Update Jan 2021: I'm now in my fifth year of owning the 2015 Genesis Sedan with a V6 motor.undefined

I bought this car when it had 20,000 miles on it and now it has 35,000 miles. Unfortunately, within a month of purchase, I noticed that the brakes were getting squishy. The dealership issued a recall for having used bad brake fluid which ruined the brakes. Within 6 months, I noticed that my alignment was pulling to the right. The Hyundai mechanic drove it and agreed that he noticed the pull. However, when I was called the next day, I was told that nothing was wrong and that they didn't notice any pulling. Unfortunately, it's still pulling to the right. The rear tail lights also got moisture inside and I had to have the Hyundai dealership replace them. Recently, the engine light came on and I made an appointment. Within a week, the car wouldn't even start up and it turned out to be a bad fuel line. Overall, it's a great car, but it's been a bit of a hassle when it comes to servicing.

I purchased my pre-owned 3.8 from a seller who was not known for being frugal, but he was very generous in selling me this beauty. Although it is a gorgeous car, after driving it for 850 miles, I found that the suspension system could use some improvement. When the tires are cold, every tar strip on the highway can be felt. The steering is also numb, which can be tiring when trying to find a good centerline feel while the suspension fights back. Additionally, there is a bit too much road noise being transmitted into the car. Overall, I believe this car has great potential and I am excited to make some upgrades to improve my driving experience.

In January 2018, I opened a Lemon Law Case with the Better Business Bureau (BBB Auto Line) and followed all the required procedures meticulously. Since the case was heard remotely, the arbitrator could not personally evaluate the noise complaint. However, an independent expert dispatched by the BBB Auto Line Representative heard the whining noise as described in my complaint immediately upon decelerating and even identified the probable cause and location. Long story short, I won the case and Hyundai had to refund the full purchase price and take the car back as a lemon. It was disappointing that Hyundai put a long-time loyal customer through this laborious and time-consuming process instead of simply replacing the transmission. However, I was determined to follow through to the conclusion. After an extensive test drive of a 2018 Genesis G80, I bought it. Time will tell, but this one has absolutely NO whining noise at any speed! In July 2017, I was finally able to convince the dealer and Hyundai Customer Care to have their traveling engineer drive the car and assess the noise. After he drove it, he authorized replacement of the differential. Unfortunately, the noise persisted even after the repair, and I decided to open a case with the Better Business Bureau Auto Line. One of the procedures using the BBB is that I have to send a Motor Vehicle Defect Notification Form by accountable mail direct to Hyundai in California. According to the instructions I received, they have to contact me within 10 days after receipt of my form to schedule an appointment for a final assessment. Unfortunately, they didn't contact me. I notified BBB Auto Line of that and they reopened the case. To make a long story short, I and the car are now in Virginia for the summer, but the noise persists to such a point that I want to park it and not drive it. I'm disappointed that Hyundai is not being very responsive and I'm losing hope that this whole process will come to an end before the warranty expires. Lesson learned? Definitely for me! The car is one of the nicest looking and comfortable cars I've ever owned. However, I have one major concern. When I test drove this car, I admit I was distracted by the comfortable ride, all the gadgets and technology and wasn't specifically listening for strange noises. Who would expect to hear any noise while driving the flagship model? After a couple of days of driving the car with the radio on, I took it for a drive one day and for some reason, I didn't turn the radio on. During this trip, I heard this strange 'whining' sound that appeared to be coming from behind the driver's seat. At the time I first heard it, I was decelerating from about 45 MPH. The noise persisted until I reached 35 MPH then it stopped. Thinking I was hearing things, I drove on a smoother road up to about 45 MPH then decelerated. The noise was immediately noticeable again and continued to 35 MPH. I took it back to the Hyundai dealer who test drove the car and came to the conclusion that the noise was 'road noise' and was 'normal'.undefined

I purchased a 4.6 LOADED brand new after reading great reviews, but unfortunately, I have had a negative experience with it over the past 2 years. However, I want to assure you that I am a real person and not a representative from a competing car company like BMW. The tires needed to be replaced at only 12,000 miles, and the key needs to be within 1 foot or placed in the slot to operate the pushbutton start. Additionally, the car performs poorly in snowy and wet conditions due to its rear-wheel drive, and the backup camera only works 50% of the time. I was also disappointed to find out that I needed a Hyundai brand I-Pod cable to connect my I-Pod (which cost an extra $75), as this was not mentioned before. The transmission shifting has been a nightmare and quite embarrassing. There have been frequent updates for the stereo, but overall, I have had a negative experience with this car.
