Hyundai Genesis problems
The Hyundai Genesis (Korean: 현대 제네시스) is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Hyundai Motor Company over two generations from 2008 until 2016, before it was renamed the Genesis G80. It is a five-passenger, four-door, rear- or all-wheel-drive sedan.
Introduced in concept form at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, and internally designated as the BH model, the Genesis was expected to cost $533 million to develop. Hyundai began marketing the first generation Genesis worldwide (except in Europe) in 2008 as a "premium sports sedan". The second generation Genesis (model DH) debuted in Seoul, Korea in November 2013 followed by the 2014 North American International Auto Show and Toronto Auto Show.
On 4 November 2015, Hyundai announced that the name Genesis and Hyundai's second generation luxury model would move to a new and separate luxury division, Genesis Motor. The Genesis — as a Hyundai model — was replaced in actuality in 2017 when the second generation Hyundai Genesis was renamed the G80. The move followed the model's success in the luxury market, paired with consumer acceptance of the Genesis nameplate.

- Summary: I received the letter to call the dealership to fix the recall involving the anti-lock break system. I called my local dealership in Enfield, CT and they had me bring my car in on Thursday [XXX]. So I made arrangements to leave my car there for the day. I get a call in the afternoon stating that they didn’t have the part to fix it and they would have to get it. So after being inconvenienced by not having my car for the day, the problem wasn’t even fixed. So after a couple of weeks of not hearing anything from the dealership, I called to check on it. They still didn’t have the part. So now it’s August 19th and I called again to check on it and there’s still no part to fix it. This is very discouraging since I drive this car often and there’s a fire risk of it being parked or driving. I don’t really understand what is going. Is there no part to fix the recall? I'm so excited to share that I recently purchased a 2012 Genesis with the premium package for just over $34k! After comparing it to an Exl Accord, the choice was clear. This car is fully loaded with a fantastic sound system, great navigation, adjustable lumbar support, upgraded leather, a huge backseat and trunk. I absolutely love driving this car - it's slick and classy without being too sporty. I even opted for the rebadging package to add the Genesis wings to everything, which looks even better in my opinion. While the MPG is slightly lower than my old 4 cylinder Honda, I'm still getting an average of 23 MPG, which is better than most V6 cars. On the freeway, it even tops out at 29 MPG!

After driving Cadillacs, mostly SRXs, for a decade, I decided to explore other options in the $40K range. I test drove BMWs and Audis, but ultimately chose the Genesis 4.6L and even took it home that night. The car looked amazing and had many more features for the price. I have been extremely satisfied with my purchase, with a great warranty and pretty good dealer support for regular maintenance. The only issue I have encountered is a mysterious failure of the entertainment center once every 80 or so starts. It turns on for 15 seconds, then off for 15 seconds, but after being off for a few hours, it returns to normal. Despite this minor issue, the sound system is fantastic and overall, I am very happy with my decision.

Vehicle year: 2016
Hyundai has come a long way since the introduction of the Genesis model, and it's clear that they have invested a lot of effort to make it stand out the way it does today. The Genesis always catches my eye on the road, and I find myself trying to confirm if I'm looking at a Hyundai or some other super expensive brand. When I finally took the time to test drive one, I was instantly impressed. As someone who has driven most luxury brands out there, including owning an MB S550 and E550, BMW 750Li and 535i, and a Lexus LS430 and 460L, I never expected to be captivated by the design, feature set, or driving dynamics of a Hyundai. However, the Genesis really stood out as a complete package in the luxury sedan market with a significantly lower price tag. I ended up buying a 2016 V6 with the Ultimate package, and so far, I'm super happy with it. While I can't comment on the reliability aspect yet, as this is my first Hyundai and I've only owned it for about 3 weeks and 800 miles, I can say that the V6 has plenty of power and won't leave you breathless. I test drove the V8 as well, and while its performance is very impressive, I wasn't ready to sacrifice the MPG. Since Hyundai also changed the Genesis emblem on the back for 2016 (an optional dealer-installed feature for 2015), I have people approaching me daily, asking what the make and model of this beauty is, confusing it with other badges. In summary, the Genesis has a quiet and well-handled ride, very little road noise, and nicely hushed wind noise. The steering is very nicely controlled, and it's very well equipped with Signature Tech or Ultimate packages, including lane assist, HUD, adaptive cruise, and auto hold features that actually respond in a smooth and controlled manner, unlike some other brands out there. The window shades on the rear and side glass are a nice add-on, and the stereo sounds great. The instrumentation and controls are nicely laid out and very easy to use, with intuitive software on the dash and main screens. The seats are very comfortable and can be adjusted in every possible way. The fuel economy is impressive for a 311hp V6, averaging 20-22mpg in mixed driving so far. The cabin is roomy with plenty of leg and headroom, even for taller individuals beyond 6'. The pano roof is both cool-looking and functional. However, there are a few cons to consider. Remote start is only available through Bluelink subscription, which is a shame. It would be great if this feature was included on the keyfob independent of any additional subscriptions, as every mainstream (not luxury) vehicle offers it at this point. The side mirrors are mounted pretty high up and can block visibility into turns. It would also be nice if the HUD could auto-adjust its brightness for day/night operation. Some driving and comfort settings can't be saved, like cruise control distance or seat heating/cooling, which have to be set up from scratch after every engine restart. Lastly, there are still no software updates for the 2016 model with the Ultimate package (9

We bought our Genesis 3.8 exactly a year ago. It has the signature package and is very well appointed for its price class. We were looking for a rear-wheel-drive sedan, and all the competitive Japanese and German makes were substantially more expensive than the Genesis. This car is solid and well thought out. We haven't had any problems with anything in the first year. Hyundai replaced the OEM Korean tires with Michelin Primacy MXV4s at the factory's expense because of excess ride harshness and noise with the Hankook originals. The build quality and material quality on this vehicle are excellent, and we don't think there is a better all-around value in the market today. It's the best car we've ever owned.

The car looks and feels great, but unfortunately it stalls at the intersection or sputters when accelerating between 20 and 40mph after the repair. It seems that Hyundai is not too interested in repairing these performance issues, and their solution is to keep having the customer purchase expensive fuel parts to guess a fix.

I leased a 2009 Genesis/4dr Sdn 4.6L V8 from Sheehy Nissan Hyundai in 07/09, but unfortunately, I have experienced numerous electrical issues, replacement of the transmission, catalytic converter burn out, interior front windshield condensation build up during the cold months, gear shift sticking on more than one occasion, starter switch being replaced, steering column control switch failure, the rubber seal in the sun roof coming out, and brake light failure. Despite submitting a lemon law complaint to the dealership and Hyundai Motor America, they have not been able to resolve the issues. I believe it's a faulty parts problem as some of their cars have had the same issues. I hope they can find a solution soon. Thank you for your attention.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my new Genesis. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to test drive it before purchasing, but I was really excited to take it home. On the way back, I noticed that the panel above the glove box was causing some glare and reflections that made me feel a bit dizzy. I checked online and noticed that the car pictured didn't have that shiny panel. I'm planning on taking the car back tomorrow to see if they can swap it out for one without the glare. Other than that, I really like the car! I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue? Thanks for your help!

I purchased my Genesis 3.8 sedan Certified Pre-owned from a local dealer here in Central Florida with less than 10k miles. It handles well and has sufficient power for a V6 engine. Overall, I rate it above average, but there are a couple of issues that I have encountered. One of them is a bit annoying, while the other is actually dangerous. Let me start with the annoying one. The radio switches modes on its own when I first start driving, which can be frustrating. However, I did a system reset this morning and will test it tonight to see if it fixed the problem. The second issue is more serious. During my early morning road trips across the state in the fall when the outside temperature is in the 40s, the system will suddenly switch to hot/humid air blowing at a high rate, which immediately fogs up the inside of the car. This can be dangerous when I'm driving at 70 mph and suddenly can't see the road in front of me. I took the car to the dealer, but they couldn't reproduce the problem. After reading the manual, I discovered that the car has an automatic defogger function that can be toggled on or off, so I turned it off and will test it on Saturday morning when I take my road trip. I don't recall this happening in the summer months, which I assume is because the outside temperature is warmer. I've read some blogs related to the 2015 Genesis and found that many owners are having radio problems. Unfortunately, the radio and other electronics are not covered on the 5 year 60k mile warranty, but rather 3 year/36k miles. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving my Genesis and look forward to my next road trip!It sounds like there may be some isolated issues or certain conditions that are causing the problem, but it's not entirely clear. While it's a nice car, it may not quite measure up to the standards of a Mercedes, BMW, or Audi. If given the chance to do it over, I would not have purchased the first year of a total redesign due to the numerous bugs and potential issues. Regarding the radio bug, I tested it again after resetting it and unfortunately it still switched modes on its own. It's important to note that my family has owned several vehicles with the same audio options, including radio, Bluetooth, and CD, and none of them have had this issue. While it seems like the radio should be replaced, it's unfortunately out of warranty and would cost several thousand dollars. I will test the auto defog in the morning and hope that switching it off will eliminate this dangerous malfunction. I will provide more updates as they become available. Update: After doing some research, I was able to fix both problems myself since the dealer could not or would not. The radio logic was apparently corrupted when I accepted the one free week of Sirius Satellite. I read on a blog site that some Genesis owners were experiencing the same problem soon after the free trial. The fix was simple; unplug the fuse that protects the infotainment system for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. The problem has not occurred since I did that simple fix. With regard to the fogging problem, I just turned off the auto defog system (because it didn't work anyway) and that problem went away. While it's a nice car with plenty of power (V6) and a smooth ride, I do expect more from a car in that price range that Hyundai states is comparable to other high-end vehicles. I did leave out one other annoying thing that happens: the door that covers the gas cap will not open on most occasions. I am forced to open the trunk and manually pull the back-up cord to open it. I've had the dealer attempt to fix it twice with no luck. It's disappointing that a high-end car has this type of problem. Update Jan 2021: I'm now in my fifth year of owning the 2015 Genesis Sedan with a V6 motor.undefined

I bought this car when it had 20,000 miles on it and now it has 35,000 miles. Unfortunately, within a month of purchase, I noticed that the brakes were getting squishy. The dealership issued a recall for having used bad brake fluid which ruined the brakes. Within 6 months, I noticed that my alignment was pulling to the right. The Hyundai mechanic drove it and agreed that he noticed the pull. However, when I was called the next day, I was told that nothing was wrong and that they didn't notice any pulling. Unfortunately, it's still pulling to the right. The rear tail lights also got moisture inside and I had to have the Hyundai dealership replace them. Recently, the engine light came on and I made an appointment. Within a week, the car wouldn't even start up and it turned out to be a bad fuel line. Overall, it's a great car, but it's been a bit of a hassle when it comes to servicing.
