The Hyundai Genesis (Korean: 현대 제네시스) is an executive car manufactured and marketed by Hyundai Motor Company over two generations from 2008 until 2016, before it was renamed the Genesis G80. It is a five-passenger, four-door, rear- or all-wheel-drive sedan.
Introduced in concept form at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, and internally designated as the BH model, the Genesis was expected to cost $533 million to develop. Hyundai began marketing the first generation Genesis worldwide (except in Europe) in 2008 as a "premium sports sedan". The second generation Genesis (model DH) debuted in Seoul, Korea in November 2013 followed by the 2014 North American International Auto Show and Toronto Auto Show.
On 4 November 2015, Hyundai announced that the name Genesis and Hyundai's second generation luxury model would move to a new and separate luxury division, Genesis Motor. The Genesis — as a Hyundai model — was replaced in actuality in 2017 when the second generation Hyundai Genesis was renamed the G80. The move followed the model's success in the luxury market, paired with consumer acceptance of the Genesis nameplate.

- Summary: I have had intermittent brake pedal to the floor issue for the past two years. It started off occasionally, but turned into daily. It's very very dangerous as the brakes barely work. To remedy, I had the brake rotors and pads changed, brake fluid flushed. Did not fix the issue. Had the Master Cylinder replaced and it fixed the issue, but then two days later my brakes started binding (opposite problem). Replaced the HECU / ABS Module and still have the same issue. Now the car is not drivable because the brakes are binding. I called a local Hyundai Dealership to see if they would try a goodwill HECU service, since previous years Hyundai Genesis were recalled with the exact same issue, but they said they would not do it for me. So I am trying to work out the issue through independent mechanics. This is a very dangerous issue as the brakes do not work and is a widespread issue affecting multiple BH model Hyundai Genesis owners.

- Summary: It's termed as a "Dead Pedal" with the accelerator pedal sensor as to when the accelerator pedal is applied to move the car, the signal to apply gas to the engine to move it , doe's not happen, and the car will not move, momentarily causing a very unsafe situation in traffic. this problem is sporadic and you never know when it will happen. to my knowledge this is happening in the 2009 to 2015 models Hyundai Genesis cars with the 3.8 and 4.6 and 5.0 engines. Any car with the drive by wire is effected with this problem, and should be looked into and repaired. I have not gone to the dealer with this problem and there is no check engine light on when it happens.

THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE INDEPENDENT OF WEATHER, SPEED OR ROAD CONDITIONS. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS AND EXAMPLES OF THIS CONDITION ON YOU TUBE.

I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV FASTER. THE NOSE OF MY CAR WAS LOWERED DUE TO MY PRESSING ON THE BRAKES AND AS A RESULT THE FRONT END OF MY CAR WENT UNDER THE BUMPER OF THE TRUCK AND BEGAN LIFTING THE TRUCK UNTIL IT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. THE CONDITIONS WERE SUNNY AND THE ASPHALT WAS DRY. ON FRIDAY JUNE 23 AT APPROXIMATELY 2:00PM ET I WAS BACKING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY, WHICH HAS A SLIGHT VERTICAL DECLINE, SO THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. THE CAR'S ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED AND ACCELERATED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY INTO THE STREET; ONCE AGAIN, IT FELT AS IF I WAS SLIDING. THE BRAKES WERE FULLY ENGAGED. I WAS ABLE TO PLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. I PLACED THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED WITHOUT ANY ISSUE. REGARDING THE JUNE 23 INCIDENT, THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVEN FOR APPROXIMATELY 6-8 DAYS. RELATING TO THE INCIDENT ON JULY 4; THE LAST TIME THE CAR WAS DRIVEN WAS ON JUNE 23. FROM JUNE 23 THROUGH JULY 4 THE CAR WAS PARKED AT THE AIRPORT. THE ONLY PARALLEL THAT I CAN DRAW BETWEEN THESE TWO INSTANCES IS THAT THE ENGINE REV AND ACCELERATION OCCURRED AFTER THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THIS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER DRIVERS; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH THE CAR AND THAT IT IS HUMAN ERROR; AVOIDING ACCOUNTABILITY. I WILL TAKE A POLYGRAPH TO PROVE THIS WAS NOT HUMAN ERROR, RATHER A MECHANICAL FAILURE.

If it's wet, I have to be careful not to open the trunk all the way, or water will run off the trunk lid and into the car. I find myself wiping the bottom of the lid if it's wet when I want to use the trunk. I've never had a car with this problem before. Additionally, I've noticed a discoloration on the rubber below the trunk lid, running above the trim, as if there was a problem when they painted the car. Hello! I wanted to share my experience with Hyundai of Asheville, NC. I purchased my Hyundai Genesis from them back in Sept. 2013 and paid a little over $50,000 for it after taxes and add ons. I must say, it rides and drives like a dream! However, due to a sudden neurological disorder, I have been finding it increasingly difficult to get in and out of the Genesis as it is quite low to the ground. After some research, I have decided to trade it in for a Santa Fe Limited, which would be much easier for me to access. While I did experience some depreciation with the Genesis, I believe this is a common issue with many vehicles. Overall, I would recommend Hyundai of Asheville for their great selection and customer service. Thank you for reading!

I bought this car about two weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with it so far. The cabin is quiet and the car is very powerful, which makes driving it a lot of fun. However, we recently had our first glimpse of snow which resulted in a light dusting. Unfortunately, this incredible car was completely immobilized in a parking lot by just a dusting of snow! I was nervous about purchasing a RWD vehicle because of this exact thing, but my fears were assuaged by the salesman and online reviews, all of which suggested that RWD vehicles have come a long way and are no longer a complete liability in bad weather. I still really enjoy driving this vehicle, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who wants to use it as their primary vehicle in areas where you may see even a little snow or ice.

I researched the car for a few years before finally purchasing it. However, I made the mistake of buying it used from Carmax. Fortunately, I had purchased the extended warranty, but unfortunately, I had a very unprofessional experience with Carmax service. I would not recommend them. After driving 100k miles, the car started experiencing multiple issues such as transmission, timing chain, tensioner, and even the catalytic converter. This was a serious let down compared to my other older vehicles that have been more reliable. Despite having only 134k miles on it and having all services done, I am seriously afraid to keep it. Needless to say, I am very disappointed.

I purchased a Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec on 09/07/2013. Unfortunately, within a month (10/04/2013), I noticed that the rubber lining on the driver's side door had come off. I was disappointed that this had happened, especially when I compared it to my 18-year-old Honda Civic, which cost one third of the price of the Genesis and is still in good condition with all its liners intact. I received a response from their customer support, but it did not seem to be written by someone in customer support. The language used was not apologetic and seemed to suggest that the problem was due to customer misuse.

We were thrilled to purchase our dream luxury car, the 2013 Hyundai Genesis, due to its excellent price for the standard equipment and options, top-notch crash results comparable to Mercedes, and the unbeatable warranty. However, after a few months of driving, we noticed that the air conditioner was not keeping the car cool after 2 hours of driving, which made our road trips uncomfortable. Despite taking the car back to the dealership multiple times, the issue was not resolved. We understand that the dealership has to follow certain procedures, but we were disappointed that they were unable to find a solution for our brand new car. We hope that in the future, they will be able to provide better customer service and support. It's frustrating that the car's air conditioner stops working after an hour and a half of continuous driving, and unfortunately, the dealership was unable to duplicate the issue during the three summers we brought it in for repair. Despite this ongoing issue, we still believe that the Genesis is a great car with many wonderful amenities. However, without a functioning air conditioner, it's difficult to fully enjoy the car's features. Our Genesis is now almost 5 years old and has 39,100 miles on it, and unfortunately, it's out of warranty. We would highly recommend the Genesis to anyone looking for a great car, but we do hope that the air conditioning issue can be resolved for future models.
