2007 Hyundai Azera problems

hyundai logo

The Hyundai Grandeur (Korean: 현대 그랜저) is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1986, over five generations.

From 1986 to 1996, the Grandeur was the flagship for Hyundai's South Korean range before the Hyundai Dynasty was introduced. It is marketed globally as the Hyundai Azera. As the Azera, it was the flagship of Hyundai's US and Canadian lineup until the arrival of the Genesis sedan. After the launch of the separate Genesis brand, the Grandeur/Azera resumed its place as the company's flagship.

As of the 2017 model year, the Azera is no longer marketed in the United States and Canada. The sedan continued to be available in South Korea and the Middle East.

Common 2007 Hyundai Azera problems

The Hyundai Azera, a luxury sedan produced by Hyundai, has had its fair share of issues, particularly in the 2007 model year. The most common problem reported by owners is a loud clatter at start-up, which is a symptom of engine problems.

Engine problems are the most frequently reported issue for the 2007 Hyundai Azera, with an average cost to fix of $3,200 and an average mileage of 41,000 miles. This issue is likely related to the timing chain tensioner, which is a significant problem affecting many 2006-2011 Azeras. This problem is a big job to replace and can cause further engine damage if left unaddressed.

Another issue that has affected the 2007 Hyundai Azera is a problem with the power-adjustable driver's seats. This issue is caused by a faulty switch supplied by Duck Il Industries in South Korea. During the manufacturing process, these switches may have been exposed to moisture and other contaminants, which can short-circuit the switches' electrical connections. This can cause the driver's seat to move intermittently without driver input, which can cause a serious distraction for drivers and increase the possibility of an accident.

Other issues reported by owners of the 2007 Hyundai Azera include a cracked dashboard, a seat back moving forward while the vehicle is in motion, loud clicking noises, and the vehicle dying or stalling while driving. These issues have an average cost to fix of $900 and an average mileage of 70,000 miles for the cracked dashboard, $1,000 and 82,000 miles for the seat back moving forward, and $900 and 68,000 miles for the loud clicking noise.

In addition to these issues, there have been reports of fires starting in the antilock braking system (ABS) of Hyundai vehicles, including the Azera. These fires are caused by short-circuits within the ABS due to liquid contamination and corrosion.

The 2007 Hyundai Azera has also had issues with the interior, lights, airbags, and exterior. These issues have an average cost to fix ranging from $150 to $1,500 and an average mileage of 50,000 to 70,000 miles.

In conclusion, the 2007 Hyundai Azera has had several issues reported by owners, with engine problems being the most common. These issues can be costly to fix and can affect the safety and reliability of the vehicle. If you are considering purchasing a 2007 Hyundai Azera, it is essential to be aware of these issues and to have them addressed by a qualified mechanic before purchasing the vehicle.

Why will my 2007 Hyundai Azera not turn on?

The most common reasons a Hyundai Azera won't start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.

Why did Hyundai discontinue the Azera?

The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
  • Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

Negative 2007 Hyundai Azera car reviews

I was initially very impressed with the car, but unfortunately, it has not lived up to my expectations. I have had to take it to the dealer for two warranty repairs in under 9000 miles, which required five separate trips. To make matters worse, the dealer did not have the necessary parts for both repairs, despite there being a TSB on the second one. When I needed them to go the extra mile, they did not, resulting in me having to live with a broken rear sunshade stuck in the up position. This was not only an inconvenience but also a distraction while driving, as the car always tried to lower and raise the sunshade when shifting into R and D, causing a loud and horrible noise. I have decided to switch back to Toyota (which did not require any warranty repairs, even after 110k miles) or Mazda (which did not require any warranty repairs in 45k miles).

I ascended a hill at 103000 miles and experienced a catastrophic engine failure, resulting in a fire. This unfortunate incident compelled me to withdraw from college to settle the financial obligations associated with the repairs.

I really loved my Hyundai Azera, and I was always patient when it came to maintenance issues. I didn't mind waiting for 6 months to correct the recall on the front seat belt, nor did I complain when the dealers suggested changing the interior air filter. I even overlooked the dash cracking. However, I was disappointed to learn that there is a design flaw with the passenger airbag, which affects hundreds of 06 and 07 cars. It's frustrating that Hyundai changed the style in 08 to address the issue, but I can't get it repaired due to liability concerns. I reached out to Hyundai consumer affairs, but unfortunately, they haven't returned my call yet.

Hello! I wanted to update my review from a year ago. Unfortunately, I have encountered some issues since then. The dashboard on the passenger side, where the airbag is located, has developed some cracks that are basically in the shape of the airbag. Additionally, the rear window shade has gone out for the second time and the paint is fading. I reached out to Hyundai USA and they directed me to a dealership. Although my warranty is expiring soon, I believe that these are safety issues that should be covered even after the expiration. It's a shame that I have to go back to a dealership that lacks customer service and follow-up. I had such high hopes for this car, but I am disappointed in its build and reliability. Thank you for listening to my concerns.

Positive 2007 Hyundai Azera car reviews

The 2007 Azera Limited is a great car for the price. It's construction is comparable to some of the BMW series and it comes out on top! The Korean car maker is definitely moving in the right direction by providing a luxury vehicle without the high price tag. The door handles are nicely designed and convenient, and the Infinity sound system is amazing! While there are some areas for improvement, such as the car feeling heavy when applying brakes, the emergency brake light needing a sounder to alert the driver, and the lack of an auxiliary input for your mp3, the lumbar support helps with the thin leather seating. If your electronic gizmos start to go wacky, try changing the battery first before spending money at the dealership if your warranty runs out. Enjoy your Azera!

The Azera is definitely the best car for the money! It was my first foreign car and I purchased a limited edition in December of 2007. I got the golden beige and my wife liked it so much that we bought her one too - she got the XM steel gray. I have driven almost 7000 miles on mine and it is the best car I have ever had! It is very quiet, has plenty of power, and the Infinity sound system rocks. I had all the tires aligned and nitrogen put in them, and have had no issues with the Michelins. It drives like a dream. My wife's car is a program car with 22k miles and she loves it. The entire buying experience was unbelievable and we had a great experience with the dealer. The entire sale was negotiated over the phone. I truly believe that the Azera is the best car for the money on the road today!

I bought this car used in 2010 with about 15,000 miles on it. I've owned it for over 7 years and it's been a great ride! I've never had any major problems, just needed to replace the brakes at about 50,000 miles. Now with 80,000 miles, it needs new tires and a battery, which I think is reasonable for the life of these items. The car is incredibly comfortable and a joy to drive - it's peppy, smooth, and handles securely. The Infinity sound system is outstanding, although it would be nice to have XM or the ability to play music from an external source. It came with a lot of standard equipment that would likely be optional on other similar vehicles (heated leather power seats, power sunroof, etc). The trunk is massive! Another thing I like is that you don't see a lot of Azeras on the road, so it feels unique. I will most likely replace my Azera with another Hyundai/Kia model.

This is the nicest car I have ever owned, without any of the headaches.

I'm so glad you're considering a Hyundai Azera! I was in the same boat as you, having owned Caddys, Lincolns, Audis, and a 2006 Maxima, but I wanted something different. When I saw the Azera, I was intrigued. After a test drive and a thorough review of the Azera Ltd., I walked out of the dealership as a new owner. I have to say, I was a bit skeptical at first, but after driving the vehicle for a while, I'm really impressed with it. The quality, ride, handling, and style are just as good, if not better, than any other car I've owned. It has qualities that you'd pay much more for from other manufacturers, and the safety features are endless. I hope you'll consider the Azera too!
