2009 Hyundai Azera problems

The Hyundai Grandeur (Korean: 현대 그랜저) is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1986, over five generations.
From 1986 to 1996, the Grandeur was the flagship for Hyundai's South Korean range before the Hyundai Dynasty was introduced. It is marketed globally as the Hyundai Azera. As the Azera, it was the flagship of Hyundai's US and Canadian lineup until the arrival of the Genesis sedan. After the launch of the separate Genesis brand, the Grandeur/Azera resumed its place as the company's flagship.
As of the 2017 model year, the Azera is no longer marketed in the United States and Canada. The sedan continued to be available in South Korea and the Middle East.

Common 2009 Hyundai Azera problems
Hyundai Azera 2009: ABS Fire
The 2009 Hyundai Azera has been reported to have a concerning issue with the Antilock Braking System (ABS) module, which can cause engine compartment fires even when the car is turned off. This problem is caused by an electrical short within the ABS module, which increases the risk of injury due to the potential for a fire to occur when the vehicle is not in use.
Hyundai has announced a recall for the ABS module in an attempt to address this issue, but a class action lawsuit alleges that previous recalls have not provided adequate protection against fires caused by water corrosion of the modules. This ongoing issue highlights the potential for serious safety risks associated with the ABS module in the 2009 Hyundai Azera.
Rodents Chew Hyundai's Soy Wiring
Another issue that has been reported by Hyundai Azera owners is the chewing of wiring by rodents. This problem is caused by the use of soy-based materials in the wiring of modern cars, which is biodegradable and helps keep plastic out of the landfill. However, this soy-based material is also attractive to rodents, who may chew on the wiring and cause damage to the vehicle's electrical system.
Hyundai's Blue Link Systems
The Blue Link system in the 2009 Hyundai Azera has also been a source of frustration for some owners. The system, which is designed to provide telematics services and emergency assistance, has been reported to shut off without warning if it is inactive for more than one year. This can leave owners without access to important features and services, and reactivating the system may require the replacement of hardware at a minimum cost of $500.
A Hyundai Blue Link lawsuit alleges that the automaker failed to inform owners of this issue, and if approved, the settlement would double the existing sunroof warranty, reimburse certain previously-paid expenses, and offer cash to those who decide to sell their car within the next 90 days. This ongoing issue highlights the potential for inconvenience and unexpected costs associated with the Blue Link system in the 2009 Hyundai Azera.

This vehicle scores well in reliability. If you want the best, pick one of the most reliable years available for the Azera.
How long do Hyundai Azera last?
Typically, you can expect the Hyundai Azera to last around 200,000 miles with excellent care on your end. The more work you put into careful driving habits and care for the components, the happier your Azera will be and the longer it will last.
Why did Hyundai discontinue the Azera?
Korean automaker Hyundai is killing off the Azera sedan for the U.S. market after customers lost interest and the company emphasized its new luxury brand. Originally designed as an upscale model, the Azera fell out of favor after Hyundai shifted its focus to the premium Genesis lineup.

- Summary: Good afternoon, my name is [XXX] . I purchased my 2009 Hyundai Azera limited edition in 2019 used with 98385 miles after I had the car for 9mths the car stopped running and the company I purchased the car from uses a repair company called Silver Rock which maintained the car I was told a belt popped after receiving the car back 2 days later the engine blow. They replaced the engine and from there The check engine light stayed on the Diagnostics check stated the O2 sensor needed attention repaired that light went off for a week after a week the check engine light returned had it checked again and the O2 sensor showed up again so I had someone else change them again light went off 2 days later the check engine Light appeared again but with ABS on ESC off TPMS on had another Diagnostics completed and it still shows O2 senors And ABS failure and to constantly replace the issue and it's not working properly afterward has a little upset. Now I saw that Hyundai has a recall on My 2009 Hyundai Azera for the ABS and the interior light which has stopped as well from my understanding but when I called to get help I was told my car is not a part of that recall which is confusing because I am very much having problems with those systems and from what I've read in the manual multiple chain reactions occur With an ABS stops. My car is now not allowing my keyfob to work, the drunk switch on the door and inside the clove box has stopped, and the release for the back seats is not responding I was never given a master key so I can't access the trunk, and the system will unlock the driver door but none of the others there is an issue where the main power box under the hood is not responding to fuse 3,4,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24 and the same issue is happening to my fuse connection on the inside of the car and when you turn the engine everything is in reverse meaning: door usually lock now the unlock, the AC comes on, the radio comes on, the back window curtain moves. WHEN I CONTACTED HYUNDAI THEY REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE AND SAID THEY WOULD ONLY MAKE FREE REPAIRS ON THE VERACRUZ EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE IN THE AZERA IS EXACTLY THE SAME. THE AZERA SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL WITH THE VERACRUZ AND HYUNDAI SHOULD MAKE THE REPAIRS TO THE AZERA FREE OF CHARGE. THANK YOU FOR ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE. - Summary: I PURCHASED A 2009 HYUNDAI AZERA LAST YEAR FROM FUCCILLO CHEVROLET IN GRAND ISLAND, NEW YORK. THE CAR WAS NEW AND STILL ON THE LOT AFTER 2 YEARS BUT I WAS ASSURED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG IT AND I HAVE BEEN PLEASED WITH THE VEHICLE UP UNTIL NOW. HOWEVER, YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, THE CAR WENT INTO AN EMERGENCY SLOW-DOWN MODE AND BOTH THE ECS OFF AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. THIS HAPPENED ON THE THRUWAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHICH WAS HARROWING. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO 'LIMP' OFF THE HIGHWAY AND GET TO A SIDE STREET. I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND THE EMERGENCY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND MY VEHICLE HAS NOW BEEN TAKEN TO NORTHTOWN HYUNDAI IN AMHERST, NY. MY HUSBAND RESEARCHED THE SLOW-DOWN/ECS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS CASES OF THIS HAPPENING DUE TO A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE CONTROL DEVICE IN MANY OF THE HYUNDAI AND KIA MODELS. IN FACT, A WOMAN AT THE SERVICE COUNTER WHO HAD A 2007 AZERA HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH HER CAR! NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE AND THAT IS THE REASON WHY I AM WRITING. IT SEEMS THAT THIS THROTTLE CONTROL ISSUE IS FAIRLY COMMON WITH THESE VEHICLES AND IT IS ALSO POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. PLEASE MAKE THEM INITIATE A RECALL. *TR

- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2006-2011 Hyundai Azera and 2006 Hyundai Sonata vehicles. Water may enter the Anti-lock Brake (ABS) Module and result in an electrical short .
- Consequence: An electrical short within the ABS Module may cause an engine compartment fire, even when the car is turned off, increasing the risk of an injury.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install a relay in the vehicle's main junction box to prevent the risk of an ABS short-circuit while the car is turned off, free of charge. The recall began on February 19, 2018. Owners may call Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 172.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company

- Summary: Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2006-2010 Sonata vehicles manufactured March 1, 2005, through January 21, 2010; and model year 2006-2011 Azera vehicles manufactured September 27, 2005, through November 22, 2010 originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Road salt and water can enter portions of the rear crossmember, leading to corrosion of the crossmember steel. This may lead to detachment of one of the rear control arms.
- Consequence: Control arm separation may suddenly change the rear wheel alignment, affecting the handling of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will repair or replace the crossmember assembly. The recall began on October 8, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Care Center at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall number is 113.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

Positive 2009 Hyundai Azera car reviews

I spend a lot of time driving since I commute 4 hours per day. As a result, I have already put 29K miles on this car in only 11 months. I have owned and driven many cars, including some very expensive ones, both foreign and domestic. However, I must say that this car is the best one I have ever owned. Hyundai is producing some great products at a reasonable price. The closest equivalent car would be a Toyota Avalon, but the Azera rides better, is more powerful, quieter, and more responsive in handling. Yet the price of an Azera is thousands less than an Avalon. The workmanship and reliability are great. I have put 29K miles on this car already without any mechanical problems. It's a great car!

I had an amazing driving experience this past year, covering 15,000 miles in our new Azera Ltd/Ultimate. The car's performance on regular gas was exceptional. We took it on a 4700 mile trip to the Maritimes (24.6 mpg), a 2667 mile trip to Baton Rouge, LA (23.8 mpg), and a 1961 mile trip to Branson, MO (22 mpg). Compared to the 1997 Olds LSS (4 speed automatic) car it replaced, which required premium gas and had a supercharged 3.8 cast iron block, the Azera's 5-speed automatic transmission and DOHC 3.8 liter AL block V6 was much lighter on the front end and performed better. In fact, the Azera was much more completely featured and cost less in current dollars than my cost for the (new) 1997 Olds. It was definitely a great buy for the money!

I'm so glad to hear that you finally got your hands on the Azera Limited with navigation! It sounds like an amazing car to drive, with a firm suspension that gives it a sports car feel. The interior is also top-notch, which is always a plus. What's even better is that the many features that come with the Limited would cost a fortune if purchased with a BMW or Lexus. I hope you have an amazing road trip to the Florida Keys in April and get to enjoy the 27 or so MPG that the car offers. With the 3.8 ltr engine, passing on the interstate is a breeze. Just remember to check the speedometer because 80 and 90 mph comes up before you realize it. Overall, the Azera seems like a great choice and I'm sure you won't regret it!

The driving experience is really enjoyable. The car is powerful, well-finished, and has lots of amazing details. However, the suspension is quite stiff, so if you prefer a smoother ride, this car may not be the best choice for you. If you're considering purchasing this car, keep this in mind. Personally, I'm excited to explore other options and trade in my car, even though I only bought it less than 3 months ago.

What a beautiful car! The option package includes everything you could want. The fit and finish are excellent, and everyone who rides in it has nothing but good things to say. I've only had this car for 2 and a half weeks, but I haven't found a single thing wrong with it. The price, with all the bells and whistles, is far below the competition's price. It's a shame that the public doesn't know what they're missing out on. Although it was the top of the Hyundai line, it will probably be replaced by the Genesis, which goes for about $40,000. I'll write a follow-up in 6 months to see if I still love it!
