2012 Hyundai Azera problems

The Hyundai Grandeur (Korean: 현대 그랜저) is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1986, over five generations.

From 1986 to 1996, the Grandeur was the flagship for Hyundai's South Korean range before the Hyundai Dynasty was introduced. It is marketed globally as the Hyundai Azera. As the Azera, it was the flagship of Hyundai's US and Canadian lineup until the arrival of the Genesis sedan. After the launch of the separate Genesis brand, the Grandeur/Azera resumed its place as the company's flagship.

As of the 2017 model year, the Azera is no longer marketed in the United States and Canada. The sedan continued to be available in South Korea and the Middle East.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-26
  • VIN: KMHFH4JG5CA
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
  • Summary: In 2023, Hyundai approved to pay for repairs of vehicles that suffer premature engine failures due to issues such as low oil, metal debris and/or fire in the engine. These issues were predominately found in the GDI engines in Kia and Hyundai vehicles. This suit failed to take into account the Hyundai Azera model and the 3.3 GDI engine. Same engine maker as the 2.2 and 2.4 models. My car stalled out in the middle of traffic with no warning lights for low oil or engine issues. The car was serviced previously with no coded issues noted accept excessive oil burning which was noted with all Hyundai models from the last decade. The GDI 3.3 has the most noted issues and is the most expensive to replace from the dealer. The engines are failing before the car is broken in the manufacture is making money on the replacement engines from customers who are still trying to pay the car off.

AIR BAGS,SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-01-19
  • VIN: KMHFH4JG5CA
  • Components: AIR BAGS,SEATS
  • Summary: On January 19,2023 my air bag light and check engine light came on in my Azera 2012 I took my car to the Hyundai dealership center in Salisbury Maryland they said after doing the diagnostic my car was going to need seat cushion for airbag light and for the door latch and will cost me with having a warranty 3265.00 dollars . There is no recall on the car however the Hyundai Motor Company recalled my make and year as of May 22 2012 for occupant detection system may fail to properly differentiate whether the front passenger seat occupant is an adult or a child or a child restraint seat since my car was manufactured in May 14 of 2012 it does not fit in that recall however, what if my car isn’t recalled they say it could be recalled later my concern is I would like it to be covered under that recall for my car as of May 22, 2012 I feel that my car was not built up in those airbags in the standard that should be since my car was manufactured seven days before the actual recall date I would like Hyundai motor company to take care of all expenses for the the safety, and the fixing of the seat cushion as well as the door latch I feel that there is a safety issue while driving with the light going on and off and the dashboard blinking specially without the passenger side door latch and seat not working right, it wont detect a problem, or possibly the airbag could come out , it has been confirmed by the dealership Pohanka Hyundai Of Salisbury , Maryland, that the components were inspected and they were no insurance or police. Just a code popped up in the car dash in the car dashboard computer. I would ask that you guys would look into this and see that the manufacture independently conducts a safety recall on this and pays all costs of the safety recall and please fix it I can be contacted at 757-894-8324. Again thank you .

  • VIN: KMHFH4JG2CA
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: MDPS coupler failure similar to failure included in warranty extensions for Sonatas/Elantras. Since Azera is not part of the recall, I ended up paying for the repairs. ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-07-28

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-06-01
  • VIN: KMHFH4JG2CA
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: The engine failed in this vehicle as I was driving down the road. It immediately started knocking violently without warning. I was left stranded with my 4 children and had to pay for towing. The problem still persists upon starting. The vehicle had been inspected numerous times prior to incident due to a ticking noise upon cranking and I was informed by dealer that this is normal. Upon incident there was no warning lights or inclination that this was going to happen. I have since been told by multiple mechanics that the crank rod is faulty in this 3.3L Hyundai engine and that in order to replace it you must buy a refurbished engine with an aftermarket part due to the faulty manufacturer part.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-04-01
  • VIN: KMHFH4JGXCA
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: The steering on this vehicle started to have some play in it, including some intense vibrating as I drove down the road. My analysis is that the coupler within the steering motor is made of a flimsy material that breaks down relatively easily. This issue has obviously become clear to Hyundai, as they have created an updated version of the coupler. However, the issue is serious enough that there are many people who have shared about it on forums/YouTube/etc., and is a legitimate danger to drivers, as complete failure of the part could result in failed steering while driving.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-05-01
  • VIN: kmhfh4jg5ca
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: The steering malfunctioned. When we tried to turn the wheel the it would slip and the car would not respond or suddenly would. It was very scary because the car could not be steered properly. We took it to the dealer who said the Steering Coupler had failed and needed to be replaced. This component has been recalled and/or warranty extended to cover in other Hyundai models for the same reason but it has not yet been recalled in the Azera. We discussed this with Hyundai Customer Service who confirmed. It was repaired by Hyundai of South Brunswick NJ for $452.34. There is a Technical Service Bulletin describing the problem. This is a common, dangerous Azera failure and should be remedied as it has been for other models.

RESEARCH SHOWS IT IS A DEFECTIVE STEERING COUPLER THAT HYUNDAI IS AWARE OF, WHICH IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. Negative 2012 Hyundai Azera car reviews

  1. Bradley Runolfsson 2024-09-11

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I wanted to share my experience with the Hyundai Azera. Unfortunately, I have had some issues with the engine in my 2012 model. Despite taking it to the dealer several times, the problem persisted. Although the 10-year warranty was not helpful in my case, I appreciate that it is offered. I hope that others have had better experiences with this car. Thank you again for reading!

  2. Al Skiles 2024-05-29

Suspension parts wear out very close to the 100,000 mile warranty expiration. It seems like the shocks, struts, sway bar, and connections all wore out at 115,000 miles. Unfortunately, it now rides like a truck from the 1950s. It will cost $2,500 to fix. I'm disappointed because this is my second Azera and it will be my last.

Positive 2012 Hyundai Azera car reviews

  1. Jensen Little 2024-07-10

Congratulations on your new Azera! It's great to hear that you're enjoying your experience so far. As someone who has only purchased Japanese premium brands until now, it's impressive that the new Azera has exceeded your expectations in terms of amenities and build quality. It's clear that Hyundai has made significant improvements and is now a market leader in many areas, including build quality, warranty, and reliability. Thank you for sharing your positive experience, and we hope you continue to enjoy your new car!

  2. Demarcus Wehner 2024-06-17

We are thrilled with our Azera! I have never loved driving a car as much as I do this one. Going for rides is a joy and the speed is exhilarating! Even on 300 mile trips, we get an impressive 30 to 32 mpg. Our overall average is 22 mpg, which includes city and freeway driving, as well as some fun moments. The seats are incredibly comfortable, and my wife loves how the passenger seat automatically adjusts to any height or position she wants. At 6'3

  3. Jesus Hauck 2024-04-28

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. Overall, I'm really happy with it, but there is one issue that I've been experiencing. Occasionally, when I shift into drive or reverse, the car gives a sudden jolt that can be quite scary. I've seen a few other people online mention this issue, but I haven't been able to find a solution. Even when I was given a loaner car, I experienced the same jolt. Have you experienced this issue with your car? If so, I'd love to hear about your experience. I took my car to the dealership, but they haven't been able to find the cause of the problem. Despite this, I'm confident that the issue exists and I hope that it can be resolved soon. Thank you for your time!

  4. Jaron Crooks 2024-04-05

I'm so glad to hear that you've been enjoying your Hyundai Azera for the past year and a half without any issues. It sounds like you made a great choice in prioritizing comfort and reliability, and your Azera definitely delivers on both fronts. Even on a long trip to Washington and back, you found it to be an enjoyable ride. It's a shame that the Azera will no longer be produced due to slow sales, but I'm sure you'll continue to cherish your car for years to come.

  5. Roscoe Abbott 2024-03-27

6+ years, 65K miles. Still runs great, rides comfortably, and very low maintenance. This car will make a great used car for someone when I trade up this spring.
