Hyundai Azera problems

The Hyundai Grandeur (Korean: 현대 그랜저) is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1986, over five generations.
From 1986 to 1996, the Grandeur was the flagship for Hyundai's South Korean range before the Hyundai Dynasty was introduced. It is marketed globally as the Hyundai Azera. As the Azera, it was the flagship of Hyundai's US and Canadian lineup until the arrival of the Genesis sedan. After the launch of the separate Genesis brand, the Grandeur/Azera resumed its place as the company's flagship.
As of the 2017 model year, the Azera is no longer marketed in the United States and Canada. The sedan continued to be available in South Korea and the Middle East.

Common Hyundai Azera problems
The Hyundai Azera has been known to have several common problems across various model years, as reported by owners. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is the timing chain tensioner problem, which is particularly prevalent in the 2006-2011 models. This issue is a significant concern because it requires a major repair job to replace the tensioner.
Another common problem is the lack of sound coming from the speakers, which can affect the overall driving experience. This issue can occur in any model year, and it is essential to address it promptly to ensure that the driver can hear important audio alerts, such as warning signals and navigation instructions.
The Hyundai Azera has also been reported to have engine problems, which is the worst problem category overall. The 2007 model year, in particular, has been identified as the worst due to higher repair costs and more problems at lower mileage, despite the 2006 model having the most overall complaints.
Additionally, there have been reports of fires starting in the antilock braking system (ABS) of Hyundai vehicles, including the Azera. This issue is caused by short-circuits within the ABS due to liquid contamination and corrosion, which can lead to significant safety concerns.
Lastly, the 2007 Azera model has been reported to have several other issues, including a cracked dashboard, a seat back that moves forward while the vehicle is moving, loud clicking noises, and instances where the vehicle has died or stalled while driving.
It is essential to note that these issues may not affect all Hyundai Azera models, and some model years may have fewer problems than others. However, it is crucial to be aware of these common issues and address them promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
Is the Hyundai Azera reliable?
The probability of a repair being a severe or major issue is 11% for the Hyundai Azera, compared to an average of 13% for fullsize cars and 12% for all vehicle models. The average total annual cost for unscheduled repairs and maintenance across all model years of a vehicle.

How many miles will a Hyundai Azera last?
Final Thoughts
You can expect around 200,000 miles out of your Hyundai Azera, with a high mileage point of around 150,000 and good mileage at 125,000. Though there will be natural aging in your vehicle, repairs and maintenance put into your car will make a big difference in how long it survives.
Why is Hyundai Azera discontinued in USA?
Unfortunately, the Hyundai Grandeur / Azera will not be available in the US due to dwindling demand for large sedans and the automaker's desire to avoid cannibalizing sales of the Genesis lineup.

- Summary: In 2023, Hyundai approved to pay for repairs of vehicles that suffer premature engine failures due to issues such as low oil, metal debris and/or fire in the engine. These issues were predominately found in the GDI engines in Kia and Hyundai vehicles. This suit failed to take into account the Hyundai Azera model and the 3.3 GDI engine. Same engine maker as the 2.2 and 2.4 models. My car stalled out in the middle of traffic with no warning lights for low oil or engine issues. The car was serviced previously with no coded issues noted accept excessive oil burning which was noted with all Hyundai models from the last decade. The GDI 3.3 has the most noted issues and is the most expensive to replace from the dealer. The engines are failing before the car is broken in the manufacture is making money on the replacement engines from customers who are still trying to pay the car off.

- Summary: I like to report that this vehicle developed moisture inside the head lamps and it has inside a silver/ look like tent foil spread all over. At nigh we can’t see the road. We replaced the light and bought the most brighter once $109.@ and we still can’t see at night. It is a safety issue since we can see. I’m not the only one you have1000s of customers with the same issues but they have bought the part in Amazon’s. My problem about that is that they do not sale them for my car it said that is for Sonata. And that once you buy it you would have to get a built hule that fits. This is one of the comments on companies: 10:31 5G: 83 ' F FMac8413 V 1 post • Joined 2022 #1 • May 29, 2022 Well I inherited a 2013 Azera. Nothing but light things are useless I can’t see at night and the look bad. Would a 2011 sonata parts fit my 2013 Azera? It would have to be a matter of bolt holes being different because side by side these cars look identical! Anyway any serious input is greatly appreciated.

Hyundai Azera 2013
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-07
- Date Complaint: 2024-06-10
- VIN: KMHFH4JG0DA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: [XXX] Bought a used 2013 Hyundai Azera. Since day 1 it has overheating issue. Within the first 2 wks of ownership, we replaced the radiator cap, thermostat, and had engine checked for leaks at Pep Boys. Replacing the water pump was next. On the night of [XXX] we replaced the water pump. Cranked engine and no leakage, so I decided to take my car home which was 45 minutes away. After driving for 15-20 minutes, the temp gauge was almost topped out, so I slowed down. I was approaching a gas station in a town halfway to home and decided I needed to pull in, but the car suddenly and steadily lost power. I had barely enough power to pull into a space away from door (I just knew it was bad and I didn't want car in the business's way). Car would not crank after being shut off for about 20 minutes. I called my husband and he brought a car hauler trailer to put it on. The vehicle was checked for leaks by PepBoys, but it is going for a reputable mechanic inspection soon as can be scheduled. So I had this car not even 30 days, paid cash for it (which I hope to recover) and mechanic friend of mine tells me it's a blown head gasket. From what I've read, it has the 3.3L Lambda engine causing issues for other model vehicles. Is there a recall? What options for replacement are there? Anyone can inspect the car at any time. It is just taking up a space in the apartment parking lot right now. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I really appreciate this car! It has ample power for typical driving situations like highway passing and merging, and it handles really well. I typically drive within the speed limit, but even when I push it a bit on the highway, I still get great mileage. On I-10 to LA, I get between 25 to 27mpg when driving westbound against the wind, and 29 to 30mpg when driving eastbound with the wind. Plus, as a big guy at 6'2

I'm so happy! I got the black/black and had the factory wheels chromed. It's stunning to look at and an even bigger pleasure to drive. This car is a '10' and a must-see for anyone shopping at this price point.

This is one great car! Although, I am only getting 13-14 mpg in the city, which is a bit disappointing. However, on a recent trip to the Hyundai factory in Montgomery AL, I was able to average 27 mpg, which is quite respectable. The plant is truly something to see and definitely worth the 650 mile trip each way. I have informed my dealer about my poor gas mileage and am currently following up on it.

Vehicle year: 2015
I am a proud previous owner of a 2006 Azera Limited. The car was newly re-designed and different, so I decided to give it a try. I have absolutely no regrets! I still own that car and it is running trouble-free at 160,000 miles with very minimal service of any type. I admit I sometimes skimped on oil changes too! When the newly designed 2012 model came out, I was so impressed by the sleek look that I kept my eye on them. As an excuse to go shopping again, I gave my 2006 to my oldest and purchased a 2013 from a dealer with 44,000 miles. This car has it all! I found a spectacular My main issues with the 2013 model are the numb feel at the steering and the road noise and feel on rough roads with the stock tires. However, if this car is as reliable as the 2006 model, then I will definitely consider buying a third Hyundai in the future. If you're looking for a car that stands out in the crowd and impresses all who ride with you, then this car has the most bang for your buck and can be found at a reasonable price in the used market. This car is perfect for someone who likes to be different from the crowd, and I personally think that the 2013 Azera looks better than the newer Hyundais or Genesis models. Update 11/2018: The car is still going strong after one year of ownership. I replaced the Hanook stock tires with Michelins, and it has really made a difference for the better in handling and stopping on wet surfaces. The dreaded rough road noise still exists, though, but the tires were worth the extra cost. Total service costs for one year outside of normal oil changes were $175.00 for a new battery. Still no regrets! Update 11/2020: Another year of use, and I still love this car! It has almost 90K miles on it, and no extra service has been required outside of oil changes. I replaced both sets of rotors and pads with top-quality slotted/drilled rotors and premium pads. Stopping is great, but a bit noisier with the slotted rotors. The rear rotors required the removal of a lower control arm, which was a bit of a hassle. However, the front rotors were super easy to replace. It's about time to replace the struts. We will see if this improves the ride/handling. So far, after 90K miles, there have been no error codes. Gas mileage is still in the 28 mpg range on the highway. The GDI engine does accumulate some soot, and you may notice a puff of black dust when stomping on the gas after driving easy. This is not oil burning, just carbon. The worst part about buying a Hyundai is poor resale value, but this also means that used buyers are getting a bargain. One last thing: Hyundai and all other car builders, including BMW, have experienced panorama roof 'blowouts'.Hyundai has extended the warranty on this feature and even pays the owner about 200.00 plus free repairs if yours ever blows out. Luckily, mine hasn't. I have not regretted my purchase! (Update 2021) The car had just turned 101,000 miles when I was rear-ended by a truck. Nobody was hurt, but unfortunately, the car was a total loss. However, it did what it was supposed to and took the hit well. I will miss my midnight blue Azzy!

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that the road noise inside my 2008 Azera is quite loud compared to my 2006 Azera and my wife's car. I've tried adjusting the tire pressure on my Michelin tires, but unfortunately, it hasn't made a difference. The dealer wasn't able to explain why there's such a difference in road noise between the two cars. I'm hoping that when it's time to replace the tires, I'll see an improvement. Thank you for your help!

I owned this car for 3 years and was the second owner. Unfortunately, the engine caught on fire while the car was turned off and parked in a lot. The fire started in the front of the engine compartment and caused a total loss, not only for me but also for other cars parked nearby. Although I was just past the 5-year, 60K mile warranty that the second owner receives, Hyundai denied any assistance or responsibility for the incident and was not interested in investigating. Despite this experience, I am grateful that the fire occurred in an open space rather than in my attached garage. However, I have decided that I will not be purchasing another Hyundai or Kia in the future as I prioritize the safety of myself and my family.

Hi there! It's great to hear that you've had your car since new and that it has been a reliable companion on your long trips. Although you've had a few minor issues, it's good to know that they were covered under warranty. I totally agree with you that all cars have at least one little rattle! After the first week of driving, I noticed the car pulling to one side. I took it to the dealer and they were able to align it. However, during the second week, the pulling persisted. I took it back to the dealer and they discovered that the left front tire was defective. Thankfully, they replaced it for free. At around 13,000 miles, I noticed a vibration when applying the brakes. The dealer informed me that the rotors needed to be turned. Unfortunately, I was outside of the 12,000-mile limit for adjustments according to Hyundai, so I had to pay for it. Additionally, I experienced a cracked dashboard, which is a known issue with Azeras. The dealer acknowledged this and replaced it under warranty. Lastly, I heard a loud noise coming from the engine. The dealer ran diagnostics and checked the front end, but they were unable to find anything wrong. I am hoping that nothing else goes wrong with my car.

Hi there! I wanted to share my recent experience with Hyundai customer service. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any improvements yet. I'm disappointed with the quality of their products and the selling dealer's service. I'm currently experiencing issues with the tires (Michelin) and the ride quality is not up to my expectations. I'm considering not purchasing another Hyundai in the future. Just a friendly reminder that Miller Hyundai in Vestal New York may not be the best option for you. Thank you for listening!
