Hyundai Azera problems

The Hyundai Grandeur (Korean: 현대 그랜저) is an executive sedan manufactured and marketed by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1986, over five generations.
From 1986 to 1996, the Grandeur was the flagship for Hyundai's South Korean range before the Hyundai Dynasty was introduced. It is marketed globally as the Hyundai Azera. As the Azera, it was the flagship of Hyundai's US and Canadian lineup until the arrival of the Genesis sedan. After the launch of the separate Genesis brand, the Grandeur/Azera resumed its place as the company's flagship.
As of the 2017 model year, the Azera is no longer marketed in the United States and Canada. The sedan continued to be available in South Korea and the Middle East.

Common Hyundai Azera problems
The Hyundai Azera has been known to have several common problems across various model years, as reported by owners. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is the timing chain tensioner problem, which is particularly prevalent in the 2006-2011 models. This issue is a significant concern because it requires a major repair job to replace the tensioner.
Another common problem is the lack of sound coming from the speakers, which can affect the overall driving experience. This issue can occur in any model year, and it is essential to address it promptly to ensure that the driver can hear important audio alerts, such as warning signals and navigation instructions.
The Hyundai Azera has also been reported to have engine problems, which is the worst problem category overall. The 2007 model year, in particular, has been identified as the worst due to higher repair costs and more problems at lower mileage, despite the 2006 model having the most overall complaints.
Additionally, there have been reports of fires starting in the antilock braking system (ABS) of Hyundai vehicles, including the Azera. This issue is caused by short-circuits within the ABS due to liquid contamination and corrosion, which can lead to significant safety concerns.
Lastly, the 2007 Azera model has been reported to have several other issues, including a cracked dashboard, a seat back that moves forward while the vehicle is moving, loud clicking noises, and instances where the vehicle has died or stalled while driving.
It is essential to note that these issues may not affect all Hyundai Azera models, and some model years may have fewer problems than others. However, it is crucial to be aware of these common issues and address them promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
Is the Hyundai Azera reliable?
The probability of a repair being a severe or major issue is 11% for the Hyundai Azera, compared to an average of 13% for fullsize cars and 12% for all vehicle models. The average total annual cost for unscheduled repairs and maintenance across all model years of a vehicle.

How many miles will a Hyundai Azera last?
Final Thoughts
You can expect around 200,000 miles out of your Hyundai Azera, with a high mileage point of around 150,000 and good mileage at 125,000. Though there will be natural aging in your vehicle, repairs and maintenance put into your car will make a big difference in how long it survives.
Why is Hyundai Azera discontinued in USA?
Unfortunately, the Hyundai Grandeur / Azera will not be available in the US due to dwindling demand for large sedans and the automaker's desire to avoid cannibalizing sales of the Genesis lineup.

- Summary: In 2023, Hyundai approved to pay for repairs of vehicles that suffer premature engine failures due to issues such as low oil, metal debris and/or fire in the engine. These issues were predominately found in the GDI engines in Kia and Hyundai vehicles. This suit failed to take into account the Hyundai Azera model and the 3.3 GDI engine. Same engine maker as the 2.2 and 2.4 models. My car stalled out in the middle of traffic with no warning lights for low oil or engine issues. The car was serviced previously with no coded issues noted accept excessive oil burning which was noted with all Hyundai models from the last decade. The GDI 3.3 has the most noted issues and is the most expensive to replace from the dealer. The engines are failing before the car is broken in the manufacture is making money on the replacement engines from customers who are still trying to pay the car off.

- Summary: I like to report that this vehicle developed moisture inside the head lamps and it has inside a silver/ look like tent foil spread all over. At nigh we can’t see the road. We replaced the light and bought the most brighter once $109.@ and we still can’t see at night. It is a safety issue since we can see. I’m not the only one you have1000s of customers with the same issues but they have bought the part in Amazon’s. My problem about that is that they do not sale them for my car it said that is for Sonata. And that once you buy it you would have to get a built hule that fits. This is one of the comments on companies: 10:31 5G: 83 ' F FMac8413 V 1 post • Joined 2022 #1 • May 29, 2022 Well I inherited a 2013 Azera. Nothing but light things are useless I can’t see at night and the look bad. Would a 2011 sonata parts fit my 2013 Azera? It would have to be a matter of bolt holes being different because side by side these cars look identical! Anyway any serious input is greatly appreciated.

Hyundai Azera 2013
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-07
- Date Complaint: 2024-06-10
- VIN: KMHFH4JG0DA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: [XXX] Bought a used 2013 Hyundai Azera. Since day 1 it has overheating issue. Within the first 2 wks of ownership, we replaced the radiator cap, thermostat, and had engine checked for leaks at Pep Boys. Replacing the water pump was next. On the night of [XXX] we replaced the water pump. Cranked engine and no leakage, so I decided to take my car home which was 45 minutes away. After driving for 15-20 minutes, the temp gauge was almost topped out, so I slowed down. I was approaching a gas station in a town halfway to home and decided I needed to pull in, but the car suddenly and steadily lost power. I had barely enough power to pull into a space away from door (I just knew it was bad and I didn't want car in the business's way). Car would not crank after being shut off for about 20 minutes. I called my husband and he brought a car hauler trailer to put it on. The vehicle was checked for leaks by PepBoys, but it is going for a reputable mechanic inspection soon as can be scheduled. So I had this car not even 30 days, paid cash for it (which I hope to recover) and mechanic friend of mine tells me it's a blown head gasket. From what I've read, it has the 3.3L Lambda engine causing issues for other model vehicles. Is there a recall? What options for replacement are there? Anyone can inspect the car at any time. It is just taking up a space in the apartment parking lot right now. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Hyundai offers great value for your money, and the Azera is a prime example of this. The Azera outshines its competitors in terms of size, speed, comfort, and amenities, all at an affordable price. The Infinity sound system is pretty good, although it lacks a bit on the high end. However, you can easily adjust the equalizer to make up for this. The stereo functions are straightforward and well laid out, with actual buttons for many functions. Unlike its competitors, the Azera doesn't rely too much on the touchscreen, and you can easily control most common tasks using real buttons. The car also comes with many perks, such as automatic headlights that activate and deactivate perfectly. You can manually control the lights and bypass the automatic functions, but the computer and sensors handle this so well that you won't mind relinquishing those tasks. All of the tech is bypassable, including the smooth and responsive automatic transmission. You can use the stick shifter to change gears manually in a small mini gate to the left of the main automatic selection gate, which can make the large sedan feel sporty and accelerate from zero to sixty in a respectable time under 7 seconds. Of course, the car also has an economy mode, and you can achieve high speeds while still getting great gas mileage. At 80 mph, the fastest I went, the sedan feels remarkably connected to the pavement while also feeling a bit light. It's like flying rather than driving, given the smooth suspension. But cornering at higher speeds was still snappy and the body did not noticeably roll. The wet road handling is okay, although the wide tires feel uneasy in heavy rain and the wheel wells fill up with an alarming effect if you hit a large puddle. However, the car never hydroplanes. The braking and suspension compensate well for the excess power that might otherwise be problematic in unfavorable elements. It does indeed have that Asian import look (many are US built), but the exterior style is well executed and modern. Not a boring car to look at. The playful fins sculpted into the rear harken back to the 1957 Chevy, while the aggressive hood and fascia definitely remind you that this vehicle exemplifies the future. Somehow, the sculpted wavy lines all work together to make for a sporty yet elegant body. Vastly prettier than an Audi or BMW, and more exotic than a Mercedes or Cadillac, the exterior will make the owner quite happy and satisfied. You won't get used to looking at this car. It sticks out in a parking lot, unapologetically shaming more expensive luxury sedans for being so boring.

I love my Smoke Grey Metallic car with the tech package! It's not a common sight on the streets, unlike the Sonata. It's a great value for the money and perfect for both business and a night out. The car has plenty of room, and the 40/60 folding back seat is a lifesaver for those of us with kids. The leather seats are beautiful, and the heated seats are a great touch. However, I do wish that remote start was included as a standard feature, especially considering the price of the car. Additionally, I haven't quite reached the advertised mileage at 2500 miles, but I'm getting closer.

Vehicle year: 2013
I'm 27 years old and I've only ever owned luxury cars, such as Mercedes and BMW. When I was ready to move on from my BMW, I walked into the dealership with the intention of leaving with an Acura TLX. I test drove the TLX and a Kia Optima, but they didn't have everything I was looking for. That's when my boyfriend suggested I try out the 2013 Hyundai Azera (used, of course). At first, I was hesitant because I'd never heard of it before, but after driving it, I was blown away! The exterior was sporty yet luxurious, the interior was spacious (with plenty of room in the front, back, and trunk), and the interior design was just as impressive as anything I'd had with my past luxury cars, if not more so! I drove it like I would any other car, and it was smooth and fast. The cabin was so quiet, and the mpg was a huge consideration for me, which the Azera did well for a luxury car. Plus, the price for what I was getting was amazing! I was sold, and I left the dealership that day with my new car. I've been driving it for almost 5 months now, and I couldn't be happier. I haven't had any issues with it, and I was even in a small fender bender where the other person's car was damaged, but mine wasn't at all, which was very impressive. Every time someone gets in my car, they ask me, 'What kind of car is this again? This is really nice!' I even had someone get upset after I told them what I spent on it because they felt stupid for buying their car for way more and getting way less. I absolutely love my car, and I think it deserves more recognition.

Vehicle year: 2013
I tend to buy new cars every 2 to 3 years because I get bored with them. Over the years, I have owned Lexus, BMW, Infiniti, Honda and Toyotas, all of which were good cars, but none of them stood out. However, the 2013 Azera caught my eye with its sleek look, beautiful paint color, and nice-looking wheels. The car has plenty of legroom, and the back seat is spacious enough for adults, not just kids. It consistently gets 21 mpg in the city and 30 to 32 mpg on the interstate, and the V6 engine has great passing power, making merging a breeze. The six-speed auto transmission is very smooth and never wanders looking for gears. The heated and cooled seats are fantastic and work great, and the rear heated seats are a hit with my kids. What sold me on the car was the Infinity car stereo, which has plenty of bass and clear, crisp music. The 550-watt sound system is amazing, and the satellite radio works great. The quiet interior and great ride also surprised me. The panoramic moonroof is very nice, and the navigation is a clear, crisp picture that is easy to use and read. The Bluetooth for the phone is also very easy to use and set up. The trunk has enough room for 2 full-size suitcases, 2 kids' suitcases, and a full-size cooler, and there is still room left over. The only thing that really bugged me is the fact that remote start is not included on a $40,000 car, and I have to pay over $300 a year for bluelink if I want remote start from a phone.I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with fuel octanes. I've been using both 87 and 91 octanes in my car, but I haven't noticed any difference in the engine's performance or fuel efficiency. This is unlike my previous cars, which would run better and smoother on 91 octane despite being rated for 87. I was initially hesitant to buy a Hyundai, but after test driving several other cars, including the 2013 Lincoln MKZ and MKS, 2014 Lexus ES350, Infiniti M series, 2012 and 2013 Toyota Avalon, 2012 Nissan Maxima, 2012 Acura TL, 2013 Accord V6, and 2014 Impala LTZ, I fell in love with the Azera's features and comforts. However, I did experience some issues with the car around 50k miles, including new timing chains, timing chain tensioner, cam phasers, oil leaks, and misfires on numerous cylinders. After several repairs, they finally decided to put in a new engine at 55k miles. I just got it back today, so only time will tell how it performs. Thanks for listening!

I was feeling tired of my '09 Accord EXL V6 and decided it was time to get a new car. I test drove both the new Accord Touring model and the Azera. Although I had already fallen in love with the looks of the Azera, it was after driving it that I was truly sold! While the new Accord was much improved over the previous model, the Azera had all the creature features I was looking for. As someone who is 6'1, I found this car to be very roomy.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my 2008 Azera that I bought on June 1st, 2009. It was a program car with 8,400 miles on it and cost a little less than a Camry. Although it had a better warranty, I must admit that it didn't quite match the quality of a Toyota Camry. However, I'm happy to report that my overall gas mileage is around 18 mpg, which is pretty good if you compare it with a Hummer. During a recent vacation, I did experience some issues with the throttle sensor, but I was able to get it fixed at a dealership. The mechanic who fixed it mentioned that he had fixed several of them, and I think it's worth noting that there hasn't been a recall on them yet. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase, but I do think there's room for improvement. Thanks for listening!

I have experienced a significant hesitation and surge acceleration problem while driving my Azera Limited, particularly in stop-and-go traffic. Despite driving 1000 miles and visiting the dealer twice, the issue persists and has been ongoing for 11 days. I have had to use one foot on the brake to control the surge acceleration, which is a major safety concern. Although Hyundai Corporation engineers are working with dealer technicians to resolve the issue, I remain concerned about the parts being obtained from Korea. I recommend that anyone test-driving an Azera Limited pay close attention to the drivability when slightly accelerating at speeds below about 15MPH. As an owner of a Santa Fe Limited with all options, which I consider to be one of the best cars I have ever owned, I believe it is important to address this issue to ensure the safety and satisfaction of all customers.

I am disappointed that my 2011 Azera with only 42,200 miles on it experienced a #3 connecting rod bearing failure. I understand that Hyundai has been working hard to improve their products since the early days of their presence in the US market. However, I was surprised to experience such a problem with my car, especially considering the 10-year warranty on their 3.8 L V6 engine. I believe that modern oils and bearing materials should allow properly designed and built engines to run over 100,000 miles with no engine bearing problems. I have been driving since 1954 and have never experienced or known of anyone having engine bearing failures until I bought my 2011 Azera in January 2014. Despite my disappointment, I appreciate the great shape of the car and the fact that it was properly maintained using synthetic oil for the 12,200 miles I drove it. I contacted Hyundai about a goodwill warranty coverage, but unfortunately, they were unable to assist me. I would like to advise others to consider Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, and Subaru, as they have engines that are known for their reliability. I hope that Hyundai will continue to improve their products and provide better customer service in the future.

This car is a great value for the money. It has a high-end look and sound, a great engine, and a nice stereo. The interior is very quiet and the transmission is fine. Although the suspension can be rough over bumps, it's not too firm in the corners. The rear sun shade is a nice touch, and any issues have been promptly fixed under warranty. The trunk is spacious and comes with a cargo net and split folding seats. It performs well in stop-and-go traffic and on the highway. While the leather isn't super supple, it is durable. The build quality is excellent, with no rattles or peeling trim. Additionally, it has many safety features to ensure a secure ride.

I was initially very impressed with the car, but unfortunately, it has not lived up to my expectations. I have had to take it to the dealer for two warranty repairs in under 9000 miles, which required five separate trips. To make matters worse, the dealer did not have the necessary parts for both repairs, despite there being a TSB on the second one. When I needed them to go the extra mile, they did not, resulting in me having to live with a broken rear sunshade stuck in the up position. This was not only an inconvenience but also a distraction while driving, as the car always tried to lower and raise the sunshade when shifting into R and D, causing a loud and horrible noise. I have decided to switch back to Toyota (which did not require any warranty repairs, even after 110k miles) or Mazda (which did not require any warranty repairs in 45k miles).
