1993 Isuzu Amigo problems
The Isuzu MU is a mid-size SUV which was produced by Japan-based manufacturer Isuzu from 1989 to 2004.
The three-door MU was introduced in 1989, followed in 1990 by the five-door version called Isuzu MU Wizard. Production of these first generation models ceased in 1998 to be replaced by a second generation. This time, the five-door version dropped the "MU" prefix, to become the Isuzu Wizard. The acronym "MU" is short for "Mysterious Utility". Isuzu manufactured several variations to the MU and its derivates for sale in other countries.
The short-wheelbase (three-door) version was sold as the Isuzu MU and Honda Jazz in Japan, with the names Isuzu Amigo and later Isuzu Rodeo Sport used in the United States. Throughout continental Europe, the three-door was called Opel Frontera Sport, with the Vauxhall Frontera Sport title used in the United Kingdom, and Holden Frontera Sport in Australia.
The long-wheelbase (five-door) version was available as the Isuzu Wizard in Japan, and in North America as Isuzu Rodeo and the Honda Passport. Opel, Vauxhall, and Holden each also sold rebadged versions of the five-door as the Opel Frontera, Vauxhall Frontera, and Holden Frontera. It was also sold as the Chevrolet Frontera in Egypt, the Isuzu Cameo and Isuzu Vega in Thailand, the Isuzu Frontier in South Africa, and as the Chevrolet Rodeo in Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Amigo. When I first got it, it had a bent valve, but I was able to fix it up for about 200 bucks. Since then, I've put about 20k on the engine and it's running and driving great! I just put new tires on it, so I'm hoping it will last me awhile. For the mileage that's on it, it's still a good runner. I drive it about 400 miles a week and it's been working great so far!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with this amazing SUV that I bought as my first car. Even though it was a two wheel drive, it handled mud and snow like a champ! The best part? I never had to do any work on it, except for changing the oil. It may not have been the fastest car out there, but it cruised smoothly on the highway at 65 mph with its 4 cylinder engine. :)

In 1994, I purchased my Amigo XS used and embarked on a thrilling adventure exploring every dirt road in Anza Borrego State Park. I even created a website documenting my exciting journey! Despite being a 2WD, I was able to accomplish almost everything a 4x4 version could do, except for snow and ice. Although I unfortunately totaled it in 1999, I rebuilt the body in 2000 and drove it for another 100k miles. This SUV was truly one-of-a-kind and incredibly enjoyable to drive. It's a shame they no longer make them. I only experienced a few mechanical issues, which didn't arise until around 200k miles, when I should have replaced the engine. Unfortunately, it sat idle in my driveway for years while I searched for a new engine and saved up to rebuild my project rig. However, nature had other plans, as a forest fire swept through my neighborhood and destroyed 2200 residential homes. Although we were fortunate enough to not lose our house, we did lose our two garages that stored our off-road rigs.

Your 1993 Amigo sounds like a great car! It's amazing that you bought it new and it's still running well. It's clear that you take good care of it with only normal maintenance done. Although the AZ heat can be tough on soft tops and batteries, it's great that you've been able to replace them. It's understandable that you wish it had a bigger engine for hills, but it's impressive that you've found a technique to get into the back seat. It's always tough to say goodbye to a beloved car, but it's clear that you have many fond memories with it.

I've had this car for about a year and a half. It's been very reliable, but it's a bit slow with only 96 hp. The dash is also quite simple, without an rpm meter or drink holders, etc.

I had an Amigo for about two years and unfortunately, I should have done a buyers check before I bought it. I experienced a flywheel/starter problem that made me have to pop the clutch many times in order for it to start. It rode rough and got average gas mileage for an SUV. I missed my old car! The oil pressure dropped to the point that the oil light would come on every once in a while because, as I found out when I sold it, one of the cylinders had water in it. This is definitely not good news! The soft top is tough to get on and off, so I would recommend trying it before you buy it. Unfortunately, this was probably my last SUV.
