ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AT SLOW SPEED OR WHEN MOVING FROM BEING STOPPED, OR IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE SENSATION IS THAT THE CAR HAS STALLED. AFTER A MOMENT, OR SEVERAL SECONDS, THE CAR WILL SURGE FORWARD, SOMETIMES CAUSING THE TIRES TO SCREECH. I IMMEDIATELY APPLY THE BRAKES TO BRING THE CAR UNDER CONTROL AND THE CAR WILL PROCEED WITHOUT FURTHER EVIDENCE OF A PROBLEM. IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THIS EVENT MAY OCCUR WITH SUCCESSIVE STOPS. THE EVENT MAY OCCUR 6-8 TIMES DURING A LOCAL TRIP, OR IT MAY BE SEVERAL DAYS WITHOUT AN EVENT. I AM UNABLE TO PREDICT IT OCCURRING AND UNABLE TO CAUSE IT TO HAPPEN. I CONSIDER THE CAR TO BE UNSAFE BOTH BECAUSE IT MAY RESULT IN A COLLISION WITH A CAR IN FRONT OF ME BUT ALSO IT HAS LEFT ME STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, OR ROAD, NOT KNOWING WHEN MY CAR WILL MOVE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE DRIVER BEHIND ME HAS BLOWN HIS HORN AS I WAIT FOR MY CAR TO MOVE. THE CAR HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND DRIVEN BY SERVICE PERSONNEL AND A REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE MANUFACTURER ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHOUT INCIDENT. I AM TOLD THERE IS NO RECORD OF THIS EVENT HAVING OCCURRED WITH THIS MODEL CAR AND THERE WAS NO SUGGESTED SOLUTION. THERE WAS A COMMENT THAT IT MAY BE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. 2011 Hyundai Azera recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2011 Hyundai Azera.
- Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor America
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP
- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2006-2011 Hyundai Azera and 2006 Hyundai Sonata vehicles. Water may enter the Anti-lock Brake (ABS) Module and result in an electrical short .
- Consequence: An electrical short within the ABS Module may cause an engine compartment fire, even when the car is turned off, increasing the risk of an injury.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install a relay in the vehicle's main junction box to prevent the risk of an ABS short-circuit while the car is turned off, free of charge. The recall began on February 19, 2018. Owners may call Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 172.

- Summary: Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2006-2010 Sonata vehicles manufactured March 1, 2005, through January 21, 2010; and model year 2006-2011 Azera vehicles manufactured September 27, 2005, through November 22, 2010 originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Road salt and water can enter portions of the rear crossmember, leading to corrosion of the crossmember steel. This may lead to detachment of one of the rear control arms.
- Consequence: Control arm separation may suddenly change the rear wheel alignment, affecting the handling of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will repair or replace the crossmember assembly. The recall began on October 8, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Care Center at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall number is 113.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

I recently purchased the Hyundai Azera Limited after owning a Camry for only 15 months (which was also purchased new). I have been thoroughly impressed with the Azera Ltd. as it has much more power without sacrificing more than a mile or two per gallon. The ride is top-notch and the sound system is awesome. The braking is aggressive and the 'manual' shift mode is fun on twisty roads. The fold-in mirrors are a great feature for automatic car washes. I also discovered that the sun screen in the back window is not only useful on sunny days, but also when the driver behind you has their brights on. Overall, this car has been an absolute pleasure to drive and own.

I loved my little 1997 Mazda 626, but when I decided I wanted a bit more luxury, I fell madly in love with the 2009 Hyundai Azera and have stayed in love for the past 6 years. It's great! I feel safe and in control even in a hazard. And it's so comfortable! Thank you, Azera!

I had an amazing driving experience this past year, covering 15,000 miles in our new Azera Ltd/Ultimate. The car's performance on regular gas was exceptional. We took it on a 4700 mile trip to the Maritimes (24.6 mpg), a 2667 mile trip to Baton Rouge, LA (23.8 mpg), and a 1961 mile trip to Branson, MO (22 mpg). Compared to the 1997 Olds LSS (4 speed automatic) car it replaced, which required premium gas and had a supercharged 3.8 cast iron block, the Azera's 5-speed automatic transmission and DOHC 3.8 liter AL block V6 was much lighter on the front end and performed better. In fact, the Azera was much more completely featured and cost less than what I paid for the 1997 Olds in current dollars. It was definitely a great buy for the money!

I recently purchased the 2009 Azera Limited and so far, I am very happy with my decision. As a former mechanic, I was hesitant to buy a Hyundai as I always recommended Toyota, Honda, or Nissan to my customers. However, after conducting some research and test driving the car, I am now adding Hyundai to my list of recommended cars. I was initially considering the Toyota Avalon Limited, but I ultimately chose the comparably equipped Hyundai, which saved me about $6,000. Although the Avalon had a slightly quieter ride, I did not find it to be worth the extra cost.

I was thrilled to hear so many of my friends rave about their Hyundais, so I decided to investigate when I needed to replace my 2000 Volvo V40. Hi there! I wanted to share my recent experience with Hyundai customer service. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any improvements yet. I'm disappointed with the quality of their products and the selling dealer's service. I'm currently experiencing issues with the tires (Michelin) and the ride quality is not up to my expectations. This is a great looking car with adequate performance. However, the ride quality could be improved. Some people seem to enjoy the ride, but in my experience, the rear suspension is quite rough and I feel every bump and expansion joint on the interstate. At this point, I am not sure if I would purchase another one unless there were significant improvements. For now, I will stick with my dependable Toyotas.
