2016 Bmw Z4 problems
The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants.
The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.
BMW Z1 (E30 based; 1989–1991)
The BMW Z1 is a two-seat roadster developed by BMW and was produced from March 1989 to June 1991. It was based on the E30 3 Series platform. The Z1 featured unusual doors which, instead of opening outward or upward, dropped into the door sills and had body panels which could easily be removed and replaced; the car could be driven with all its body panels removed for weight reduction and increased performance. Only 8,000 examples of the Z1 were produced.

Common 2016 Bmw Z4 problems
The BMW Z4, introduced in 2009, is a luxury compact car known for its sleek styling, high-class interior, and powerful engines
. However, like any vehicle, it can experience common problems that may affect its performance and reliability. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues with the BMW Z4, based on search results:
- Clunking Steering Wheel: Some drivers of 2003-2008 Z4 models have reported a clunk or jolt from the steering wheel upon applying the brakes, which can be caused by a faulty front control arm bracket bushing. Replacing this part can cost between $30 and $80 plus labor costs.
- Coolant Loss: Coolant loss has been reported in some 2003-2005 and 2008 Z4 engines, which can lead to overheating and severe engine damage if left unaddressed. The issue is often due to an engine coolant leak from the expansion tank, which may require replacing the upper and lower hoses as well.
- Defective Roof Mechanism: Many owners of the 2008 Z4 redesign have complained about a defective roof mechanism that can cause the roof motor to develop rust. This issue has persisted even after multiple replacements of the roof mechanism.
- Malfunctioning Convertible Top: A malfunctioning convertible top has been reported as a common problem in the 2003 BMW Z4. The top may move sluggishly for a few weeks before becoming inoperable, and replacing the motor and hydraulic system multiple times may not resolve the issue.
- Electrical Gremlins: BMW Z4s are known for their complex electrical systems, and some owners have experienced little electrical gremlins that can affect various components. It is essential to thoroughly test every electrical component during a test drive to ensure everything works as it should.
- Driveshaft Issues: Some Z4s constructed between 30 December 2010 and 29 April 2011 may experience a joint on the driveshaft that sends power from the engine to the rear wheels breaking. A BMW dealer can determine if your car is affected and fit a superior part to solve the problem.
- Power Steering Failure: The electric power steering system may fail on some Z4s manufactured between 1 November and 31 December 2011, causing the steering to become much heavier. A BMW dealer can check if your car is affected and replace the steering system if necessary.
- Limp Home Mode: A problem with the engine's timing system could lead to the car going into limp home mode to prevent major damage. This issue affects Z4s made between 1 September 2009 and 30 November 2011, and a BMW dealer can provide further information if your car is affected.
- Plug-in Electrical Connection: An electrical connection in the electric system could be damaged by high electrical current, causing issues like the car not starting after being parked, the lights in the instrument cluster flickering, or the engine cutting out while driving. This affects Z4s built between 1 December 2009 and 13 October 2011, and a BMW dealer can install a more robust connection if your car is affected.
When purchasing a used BMW Z4, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and thoroughly inspect the vehicle for any signs of wear, damage, or malfunction. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help ensure the longevity and reliability of your Z4.

I absolutely adore the retractable hard top! In my opinion, it's the most beautiful car I've ever owned. While the storage space for luggage is limited, I didn't purchase a Z4 for its trunk size. It's worth noting that all BMWs I've owned have had high maintenance costs, but with proper maintenance, they can run forever.

This is my first ever roadster, after several 3-series coupes. Although inherently impractical, it's much fun to drive. I love the throaty growl and sharp steering turn-in.

The classic roadster design of this car is still one of the sexiest on the road, even though it was released in 2009! As many have said, it turns heads every time it's taken out. Despite being the 'base' powertrain with the sDrive30i, the naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engine sounds fantastic and is comparatively more trouble-free. The small form factor combined with the power output makes it feel more than fast enough, and the handling is superb once dialed into Sport mode. However, the ride can be a bit rough and stiff with run flats, but it will be way better with normal tires. Additionally, there is no backup camera availability, and the tech is a bit outdated with the CIC system. But don't worry, Apple CarPlay and backup camera retrofit are widely available and mostly plug and play.

Congratulations on your new purchase! A 13 year old 2011 BMW Z4 3.0i sounds like a great choice. The sporty and convertible appeal must be a lot of fun. Although, I can imagine the ride being quite stiff due to the run-flats. Nonetheless, with an in-line 6 cylinder engine, it must be a sweet ride!

I recently purchased a Z4 after considering several other models such as the 911, SLK, and Boxster. The hardtop convertible is awesome and although the features are quite pricey, they are all there. While some have criticized the handling, I find it to be very adequate for a comfortable sports car that is adapted to real life conditions. The car is not built solely for track driving, but it performs well on the highway. I am very happy with my purchase and can't help but smile every time I drive it! The bi-turbo is a masterpiece, although the base model lacks power.

The car has experienced some issues, including the running board falling off, engine stalling at low rpms, roof leaks, and a creak in the rear suspension. These issues have been addressed by the shop, with some taking longer than others to resolve.

It's great to hear from you! I noticed that your vehicle may need some attention in a few areas. The front struts, valve cover gasket, transmission seal, and front end grommets all require replacement at 25,000 miles. Additionally, there seems to be some vibration issues with the convertible top. Lastly, it appears that both rear rims have cracked due to a poor manufacturing process. I understand that this can be quite costly to address, but I'm here to help you find the best solution possible.

One thing to keep in mind about this car is that it's not designed to compete on the track against a Cayman S or Boxster S. However, it's an excellent high-speed, top-down cruiser that's perfect for what it was built for. If you compare it to those other cars, you'll immediately notice how much better they handle, but for everyday driving, the Z4 is quite good. The N54 engine is superb and can be easily upgraded. The car is comfortable and luxurious. The only downside I've identified is that some 2011 models don't come with the Combox controller, which means you won't have Bluetooth audio capabilities. Additionally, the handling in some tight corners feels a bit delayed, and I've felt the rear end skitter out on me more than a few times. It's not to the extent that it would be dangerous or cause any real concern, but it certainly doesn't have the
