- Summary: Symptom: When brakes are applied, car will violently jerk to the left into the path of oncoming traffic. Countersteering to prevent collision results in left front tire skidding with poor braking. Cause: Initially, the suspected cause was a failed right front brake caliper. However, upon investigation, it was found that the ABS braking module was blocking all brake fluid from going to the right front caliper. Solution: ABS braking module must be replaced. Comment: It should be assumed that if one front wheel brake is disabled, then the other could also be disabled without warning resulting in no braking capability at all. On this vehicle, the rear brakes are also controlled by the ABS module.

I CANNOT FIND ANY NEW INFORMATION TO INDICATE TOYOTA HAS A PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS RECURRING ISSUE, AND I HAVEN'T COME ACROSS ANY ALTERNATE FIX ON THE INTERNET THAT RESOLVES IT. I AM CONTEMPLATING SOME SORT OF WORK AROUND TO SEAL THE CANISTER AND THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO PREVENT THE WATER INTRUSION INTO THE CANISTER, BUT I ALSO DON'T WANT TO DOING ANYTHING THAT WILL PREVENT THE CANISTER FROM FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. - Summary: WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 SCION XA WESTBOUND I80 UTAH ACCIDENT OCCURRED AT MILE MARKER 150 WHILE TAKING A LEFT HAND TURN PASSENGERS FRONT TIRE ENCOUNTERED BLACK ICE SENDING THE CAR INTO THE CEMENT BARRIER. BOUNCED OFF THAT CEMENT BARRIER INTO THE OPPISITE BARRIER ON THE PASSENGER FRONT BOTH WERE BLOWN OUT AND A FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS COLLAPSED IN THE VEHICLE THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT FAILED TO LOCK OR ENGAGE. RESULTING I IMPACTED WINDSHIELD WITH FOREHEAD CRACKING IT, THEN AS I WAS COMING BACK INTO THE DRIVER'S SEAT THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG DEPLOYED LATE AND RESULUTING HIT ME IN THE LEFT SIDE OF JAW RESULTING I WAS SHOT ACROSS THE CAR AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY FACE SHATTERED THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW ON TO THE ROAD. I LANDED ACROSS THE GEAR SHIFT AND BROKE MY BACK AS A RESULT. OF THE SAFETY SYSTEMS FAILING TO FUNCTION PROPERLY I WAS THROWN AROUND THE CAR LIKE A RAG DOLL I BLEW OUT THE MCL IN MY LEFT KNEE AND SUFFERED THREE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES WITHIN 30 SECONDS. RESULTING FROM THE CRASH COMATOSE FOR 6 HOURS I HAVE NO CLEAR MEMORIES FOR UP TO 3 MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT. ALSO A FRACTURED BACK, HOW MUCH IS AND BY THE AGE OF 24 AND HAD TO HAVE ALL MY TEETH PULLED AND RECIEVE DENTURES. TO THIS DAY THIS ACCIDENT AFFECTS MY DAILY LIFE AND LONG TERM CONSEQUENCES OF THE 3 TBI ARE STILL DEVELOPING. I WAS 20 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. I'M 27 NOW. I FOUND OUT ONLY A YEAR AGO THAT RECALLS SHOUKD BE INPLACE.

- Summary: HELLO, I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THREE ELECTRICAL MOTORS FOR MY 2006 SCION XA. I SEE SEVERAL OTHER SCION'S ON THE RECALL FOR THIS. I WOULD SAY MY SCION XA SHOULD BE ON AS WELL. I HAVE SPENT OVER $1,300 ON THESE REPAIRS, AS WELL AS OTHER REPAIRS.

- Components: AIR BAGS: AIR BAG/RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2004-2006 Toyota Scion xA vehicles. The air bag control module for the supplemental restraint system (SRS ECU) may experience an internal short, possibly causing the air bags to unintentionally deploy, or become deactivated.
- Consequence: If the air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners unintentionally deploy, it can increase the risk of a crash. If the air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners are deactivated, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the SRS ECU, and if necessary, replace the air bag control module, free of charge. The recall began December 21, 2018. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is J0W.

- Consequence: FAILURE TO RELEASE THE THROTTLE WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS TURNED OFF COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
- Remedy: THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS WILL NOTIFY THEIR OWNERS AND REPLACE THE CRUISE CONTROL FREE OF CHARGE. ROSTRA WILL NOTIFY PURCHASERS OF THE ATERMARKET CRUISE CONTROLS AND REPLACE THE UNITS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 13, 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT ROSTRA AT 910-291-2538.

Best car you've ever owned! It's amazing that you were able to drive it for 215,000 miles with only basic maintenance like oil changes, brakes, spark plugs, and one wheel bearing. The window sticker said it was made in Japan, and it seems like their quality control is top-notch because you've never owned a more reliable car. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I'm so glad I bought my daughter this car! It had to be safe, affordable, and cool, and it definitely ticks all the boxes. Her smile as she drove it for the first time will stay with me forever. The car is even better than I expected - it's spacious, stylish, and only costs $20.00 to fill up. The ride is pretty good too, although I think my daughter is more interested in what's on the radio! I'm actually considering getting one for myself to commute to work, and I'm in my 40s!

I love my car! It's a 2006 model that I bought in 2011. It's been very dependable and has never given me any trouble. I just make sure to do regular oil changes. I live in South Florida, Broward County, where it never snows or gets very cold, so I can't speak to how it would perform in colder climates. But overall, it runs really well!

It's so great to hear about your sister's car and the memories you have with it! I can imagine how devastated you must have felt when she took it with her to Florida. Back in 2006, gas was only 1.68 in the Detroit area of Michigan, which must have made those road trips with friends even more enjoyable. It's a shame that the car didn't perform well in the snow, but overall it sounds like you had some awesome experiences with it!

I have been searching for a reasonably priced, fuel-efficient, two-wheel drive car. In the past, I have owned 4x4 trucks and off-road vehicles, but they all had poor fuel economy, with the best being only 10 to 13 miles per gallon. I have since moved on from off-roading and wanted a reliable and enjoyable car for myself. After conducting extensive research, I decided to purchase a Scion XA, and I absolutely love it! However, after driving it for five months, I noticed an awful glare coming off the dashboard (once I got used to the speedometer's location). To address this issue, I purchased a DASMMAT cover and had all the windows tinted, which has greatly improved the situation.

I purchased this car used with 18K miles on it. Although it was quite dirty, it cleaned up nicely and had been primarily used for city driving. Since I only receive 30 cents per mile reimbursement, I needed an economical car for work. This car gets about 34 mpg, which is not as good as the 43 mpg I get with my XD. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the car after 35K miles. A retainer fell off the Toyota brake pad, causing the front brakes to become noisy and requiring replacement. Additionally, the right rear wheel bearing went out at 36K miles, which is earlier than expected for a Toyota. I am now concerned about what other issues may arise at 38K miles.
