2009 Honda Odyssey problems
For the North American market, the Honda Odyssey, is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Japanese automaker Honda since 1994, now in its fifth generation, which began in 2018.
The Odyssey had originally been conceived and engineered in Japan, in the wake of the country's economic crisis of the 1990s – which in turn imposed severe constraints on the vehicle's size and overall concept, dictating the minivan's manufacture in an existing facility with minimal modification. The result was a smaller minivan, in the compact MPV class, that was well received in the Japanese domestic market and less well received in North America. The first generation Odyssey was marketed in Europe as the Honda Shuttle.
Subsequent generations diverged to reflect market variations, and Honda built a plant in Lincoln, Alabama, United States, incorporating the ability to manufacture larger models. Since model year 1999, Honda has marketed a larger (large MPV-class) Odyssey in North America and a smaller Odyssey in Japan and other markets. Honda also offered the larger North American Odyssey in Japan as the LaGreat (ラグレイト, Ragureito) beginning in June 1999 through 2005. Both versions of the Odyssey were sold in Japan at Honda Clio dealership locations. Both versions of the Odyssey are currently sold in the Middle East.

It is a safety issue as this just happens out of nowhere without any warning while I’m driving. All of a sudden it just happened the first time and I didn’t even realize it until I didn’t hear the clicking and someone said hey your blinkers are not working. Also, the second time it happened happened all over again while I was driving out of nowhere would not work and it was raining as well and I couldn’t see anything and my lights wouldn’t work so it’s definitely a safety issue .

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-01
- VIN: 5FNRL38929B
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Starting on January 1, 2022, my vehicle's clock (2009 Honda Odyssey Touring w/Navigation) are showing incorrect times on both the dash vehicle clock as well as the one on the Navigation screen, and cannot be adjusted. Time on Navigation screen always starts at around 7.17pm, then works as usual, but resets after restarting car. Date always shows Jan 1, 2002. Dash clocks seems to work (advances normally), but just can't be adjusted, as it usually syncs with Navigation Clock. There is no adjustement possible to the clock; only minor +/- adjustments from the GPS-feed time, and that adjustment is not functioning now. When I try to adjust the time, it acts erratic & jumps back to original setting. Other owners are reporting similar issues. (https://www.crvownersclub.com/threads/clock-fault-year-2022-note-this-is-not-a-gps-related-issue-merged-master-thread.224326/) I am the original & current owner of this vehicle, which has never been in a major accident. First Picture show Navigation & Dash clock that are not synced. Second Photo show software version with original (2009) Navigation DVD. Third photo shows after battery was disconnected. Navi time started at 6.15 this time, and Dash clock started at 1:00. Other owners seem to disconnect & reconnect car battery just before 1:00 to at least get the dash clock to function correctly. This seems to be problem that is affecting many (older) Honda vehicles and seems to be a programming/coding/software issue with the Year 2022 that mainly affects vehicles that came with the factory Navigation package. Other owners are only starting to report this issue on online forums/blogs. This is a very basic car function, that owners are unable to adjust correctly without the manufacturer's help. Thank you for your help in this matter.

We absolutely adore our 2009 Odyssey EX-L with RES! It feels just like our Accord. The drive is incredibly smooth and comfortable, and it accelerates well. The leather interior is simply divine, with really comfortable seats. The only thing we would change is the steering wheel - it should extend out a little farther for even more comfort. As someone who is 5'-6

Our new Odyssey is fantastic! While we had good luck with our 2000 Grand Caravan, we decided to go with the Honda this time and we're glad we did. We did notice a few minor issues, such as the digital displays being spread out across the dash and being difficult to read in bright sunlight. Additionally, the odometer is only displayed as one of several options on the trip computer, which can be a bit inconvenient. We were also surprised to find that there is no compass. However, we are confident that these minor issues will not detract from our overall enjoyment of the vehicle. The automatic headlight switch did take some getting used to, but we quickly adapted. Overall, we are very pleased with our purchase and would highly recommend the Odyssey to anyone in the market for a new vehicle.
-
The Ody is a great vehicle, but there is a serious issue with the braking system that needs to be addressed. On three separate occasions, I have experienced unintended acceleration while applying the brakes, which is a very dangerous situation. Despite being an experienced driver of over 30 years, I have never encountered this problem before. It appears that the gas pedal is too close to the brake pedal, and unfortunately, there is no way to adjust it. This issue has occurred twice at busy 55mph intersections, causing the engine to race, the ABS light to turn on, and the van to continue moving forward despite my foot being on the brake. The third time, I almost hit the basketball post in my driveway. It is imperative that I remain vigilant of my foot position when stopping in this van. I strongly believe that this issue poses a significant safety risk, and I urge the dealer to take action to address it.
-
This is our 2nd Ody. The first one, an '03 EX-L, was bullet-proof. Got as much as 26 mpg on the highway. Our new 2009 is even more refined. Much more plush interior, nicer exterior colors and lines. Features like power liftgate and backup camera are super useful. Some complain that their new Ody rides rough. Actually, it reminds me of the driving feel of my Bimmer. You can definitely "feel" the road; but it's a good refined feeling, not a "rough" feeling. Interior noise about the same as the old one. The one complaint I have is with the Plus-One center seat for the 2nd row. I find it nearly unusable. First, you can't stow it. On earlier models you could, but no longer.
-
We've been driving our Odyssey for two months now and we absolutely love it! It's been a lifesaver since we had our second child in January. The quality of the vehicle has been excellent and we wouldn't choose any other minivan after trying them all. The only downside is that we wish the fuel economy was better, but that's not enough to keep us from driving it.

Hey there! I wanted to give you a heads up about the PAX model. While it may seem like a good option, the tires tend to wear out pretty quickly, usually around 25,000 miles or so. On top of that, they can be pretty pricey, costing around $1,500 for a set of four. This means that by the time you hit 50,000 miles (when most tires wear out), you could end up spending around $4,500 on tires alone. Also, if you happen to get a flat, Honda recommends replacing 2 tires instead of repairing them. Just thought you should know!

The 2009 Honda Odyssey experienced some issues with the timing belt cover, which caused it to leak oil and stop in the middle of rush hour traffic. Despite the dealer's efforts to fix the problem, the car continues to experience issues with starting and running for more than a few days at a time. While the dealer is doing their best to identify and resolve the issue, it remains unresolved at this time.

As a proud owner of three other Honda vehicles, I decided to purchase an Odyssey. Although I opted for a lower-end model without automatic doors, I have unfortunately experienced some issues with the van. After only 21,000 miles, I noticed significant vibrations in the steering wheel when braking at 50 mph. Upon taking the van to the dealer, they informed me that the rotors were uneven and needed to be resurfaced or replaced. Despite their suggestion that the issue was due to my driving, I find this hard to believe as I have never experienced rotor issues with my other Honda vehicles at such low mileage. While the warranty does not cover rotors after 10,000 miles, I remain confident in the quality of Honda vehicles and will continue to be a loyal customer. However, I cannot recommend this particular van model.

The issue of excessive oil consumption, which Honda has failed to acknowledge, let alone address, has resulted in this car being highly unreliable. However, I am confident that Honda will take the necessary steps to rectify this issue, and I would consider purchasing another Honda in the future.
