My van is having the exact issue for what is stated in the recall, yet my VIN does not show as a recall. When the switch is turned to the run position, the dash lights may or may not illuminate. Once the van is started, there is a 50/50 chance that the stops running because of the switch. I believe this is an issue that needs to be looked into. - Summary: REF: NHTSA CAMPAIGN 02V120000 FOR 1998 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE IGNITION SWITCH IN MY CAR WAS REPLACED IN THE RECALL OF 2002. I WAS NOT HAVING PROBLEMS THEN. HOWEVER, LAST FALL (2009) AND THIS WINTER (2010) I WAS EXPERIENCING SUDDEN STALLS AND IN SOME CASES DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHEN ACCELERATING AT INTERSECTIONS, PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC ETC. MY HONDA DEALER, IN MARCH 2010, COULD NOT ID THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR IN THE SAME MONTH TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS DISTRIBUTOR RELATED. THEY REPLACED THAT PART. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. I RETURNED IT RIGHT AWAY AND THEY DID THE RESEARCH TO ID THE PROBLEM AS THE IGNITION SWITCH. IT IS NOW MAY 12 AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO INSTANCES OF SUDDEN STALLS. 1998 Honda Odyssey recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 1998 Honda Odyssey.

- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 1998 Acura 2.2CL, 1998-1999 Acura 2.3CL, 1998-1999 Acura 3.0CL, 2001 Acura 3.2CL and Acura MDX, 1998-2000 Honda Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Sedan, Odyssey and Acura 3.5RL, 1999-2000 Acura 3.2TL, 1996-2000 Civic Coupe, 1997-2000 CR-V, 1997-1998 EV Plus, and 1998-1999 Isuzu Oasis vehicles. These vehicles were equipped with Non-Azide Driver air bag Inflators (NADI) and do not contain phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflators may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag cushion may not properly protect the occupant. These scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver frontal air bag inflator, and replace it if necessary, with an inflator of a different design, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138 or Isuzu customer service at 1-800-255-6727.

- Summary: SABERSPORT IS RECALLING 16,270 COMBINATION CORNER AND BUMPER LAMP ASSEMBLIES OF VARIOUS PART NUMBERS SOLD FOR USE AS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT FOR VARIOUS PASSENGER VEHICLES. THESE HEADLAMPS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THESE LAMPS DO NOT CONTAIN THE REQUIRED AMBER SIDE REFLECTORS.
- Consequence: DECREASED LIGHTING VISIBILITY MAY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
- Remedy: SABERSPORT WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND OFFER A FULL REFUND FOR THE NONCOMPLIANT COMBINATION LAMPS. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 11, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SABERSPORT AT 1-909-598-7589.

- Summary: ON CERTAIN SEDANS, COUPES, HATCHBACKS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN DEGRADE DUE TO THE HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED.
- Consequence: WORN CONTACTS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JUNE 14, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238.

- Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. CERTAIN VEHICLES WERE MANUFACTURED WITH BALL JOINTS THAT CAN PREMATURELY WEAR OUT AND, IN THE WORSE CASE, THE BALL JOINT WOULD SEPARATE CAUSING THE FRONT SUSPENSION TO COLLAPSE.
- Consequence: THIS CONDITION WOULD RESULT IN VEHICLE DECELERATION AND A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. ALSO STEERING CONTROLLABILITY WOULD BE REDUCED.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINTS.

I love my mini van! It has four real opening doors, which is exactly what I was looking for. It's the perfect size, has decent power and gas mileage, and is incredibly versatile. I've been driving it for about 4 years now, even though it has a Salvage title due to an accident with a teenage driver. Despite that, it's still going strong with almost 180,000 miles on it! I bought it with about 88,000 miles on it and it's been super reliable ever since. The only thing I wish is that it came in AWD and that they still made these cars. I don't know what I'll buy when it finally dies, but I'm so grateful for the time I've had with it. :)

Your van sounds amazing! It has been very reliable over the 11 years of constant use, with only two rare parts breaking: the starter motor and a cast iron header pipe. The Honda v-tec 2.3 liter engine is super and provides good low end torque for its size, and great power up top if you need it (150 horse). It's much lighter than other vans, so it outperforms even 3.0 liter Nissan's and other vans. With hard tires and 0W-30 amsoil, I get over 30 miles per gallon highway. With a tranny cooler, I've towed all across North America. Your van has lots of life left and handles very nicely for a van too, much better than any other I've ever driven. It's like a car. Overall, it's a great small van that was ahead of its time.

This is the second '97 our family has owned. I'm using it for my sales position, so I'll be spending a lot of time in it. I love how easy it is to get in and out of, especially since the seat is higher than my Mark VIII. Unfortunately, the ABS light was on when I bought it and I found out that the ABS modulator needs to be replaced, which costs $1500.00. It seems like this is a common issue for cars with 80,000 to 120,000 miles. I'm still deciding whether or not to fix it. Other than that, I really appreciate the dual air and the great reliability of this car, as well as our previous one. The quality of workmanship is pretty impressive too, except for the ABS malfunction.
