The Honda CR-Z is a sport compact hybrid electric car manufactured by Honda and marketed as a "sport hybrid coupe." The CR-Z combines a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain with traditional sports car elements, including a 2+2 seating arrangement (excluding North American models where the backseat is removed) and a standard 6-speed manual transmission. The CR-Z is regarded as the spiritual successor to the second-generation Honda CR-X in both name and exterior design.

In the U.S., the CR-Z is one of the least polluting hybrid vehicles available and is rated as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) as defined by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The CR-Z is the third gasoline-electric hybrid model offered by Honda (after the 2000–2006 Insight and 2003–2005 Civic Hybrid) that can be equipped with a manual transmission, and the only one in its class.

The CR-Z is the sixth unique version of Honda's Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology since the technology was first launched in the first generation Insight 3 door hatchback. Sales of the CR-Z began in Japan in February 2010. Sales in the U.S. began in August 2010, and production ended by the end of 2016.

Negative 2014 Honda Cr-z car reviews

  1. Casimer Gusikowski 2024-01-01

I had a bad experience with this car. The visibility is not great and it has cloth seats that can be difficult to clean. The blue tooth and stereo system are not up to par and it has a lower horsepower compared to other cars in its class. However, I believe that Honda can do better and improve the quality of their vehicles. It's important to pay attention to your surroundings while driving any car. Let's hope Honda takes this feedback into consideration and makes improvements in the future.

Positive 2014 Honda Cr-z car reviews

  1. Jarod Bernhard 2024-11-20

You either like the styling, or you don't. It's like choosing between a sports car that gets 35 mpg or settling for something else and spending a lot more money!!

  2. Winfield Nader 2024-11-09

What a great find! I came across this little 2013, 6 speed manual CR-Z after the original owner hit a deer in it. Fortunately, the damage wasn't too bad and I was able to put a junkyard bumper, fender, and hood on it. I have to say, I am absolutely amazed with this car! It's so peppy, fast, and nimble that I find myself driving it more than my two nice Mercedes. Plus, it's incredibly fuel-efficient, only requiring about $20 of gas a week. I'm highly impressed with how well-maintained it is, as it doesn't use a drop of any fluids despite its low mileage. In fact, I've decided to keep it and sell one of my Mercedes instead.

  3. Mortimer Rau 2024-11-03

I completely disagree with the assessment made by the Edmunds reviewer about the handling and performance of this car. As someone who has owned multiple sports cars (including 911s, 914, MGB, CRX Si, etc.) over the years, I can confidently say that my recently acquired 2014 EX model has exceeded my expectations. It provides impressive lateral grip, even with all-season tires (more than most passengers will want to endure), and the acceleration in sport mode is comparable to a Miata, and more than adequate in normal mode. On a recent 250-mile back highway road trip with speeds averaging 70mph, I averaged an impressive 42.6 mpg. The interior fit and finish, as well as the quality of materials, are on par with cars costing many thousands more, and the instrumentation and dash are well-designed and monitor many functions. All in all, this car deserves to carry the torch of the long-revered CRX, and no, it doesn't need a back seat!

  4. Wellington Rempel 2024-10-26

I've had my Z for about four years now and I absolutely love it! It's the most fun I've had in a car in a long time. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. I'm not sure why some people think that not having a backseat is a bad thing. Other cars have backseats, but they can be very uncomfortable. Plus, most people drive alone anyway. I always get 37 miles per gallon, and I always have it in sport mode. I guess I could get better gas mileage if I tried, but it probably wouldn't be as much fun!

  5. Fidel Gaylord 2024-10-11

When you look at the stats and specs that this car is giving, it may seem misleading. Some may say it's not fast enough or the gas mileage isn't what it's supposed to be, but I must disagree. I have the 6MT and was told it would get 31-38 mpg, but I'm actually getting up to an average of 43 mpg. As for the 0-60 time they claim, I'm blowing it away and I haven't even given it all it's got. It's about 6 seconds, which is faster than any car in its price range. The sport and eco buttons make a huge difference, and the S+ gives you something extra too. I think if Honda and other companies had tested it properly, they would have sold more. I wasn't going to buy it after looking up online reviews, but after testing it, I couldn't refuse. It's far more than they give it credit for.
