Common 2014 Dodge Journey problems

The Dodge Journey, a mid-size crossover SUV, was first introduced in 2009. While the model has seen improvements over the years, the 2014 Dodge Journey has been reported to have common problems that affect its performance and reliability.

One of the most troublesome issues with the 2014 Dodge Journey is transmission problems, which have been reported at around 15,000 miles. Owners have shared that the transmission can become stiff and erratic, producing abnormal clunking sounds while shifting. Some have taken their vehicles to dealerships, but the root cause remains unclear. A few transmission-related technical service bulletins (TSBs) have been released, but their effectiveness in resolving the issue is not guaranteed.

Another significant problem with the 2014 Dodge Journey is head gasket issues, which can lead to severe engine damage if not addressed promptly. These problems may start with performance issues and progress over time, causing the engine to fail or not run at all. The cause of these issues is often damaged or cracked head gaskets. A compression test is recommended to determine if the head gaskets are faulty. If they are damaged, replacement can be done by the owner or a professional. This issue typically occurs around 100,000 miles.

The 2014 Dodge Journey also shares some common problems with other model years, such as premature brake wear and rotor wear, which can be both inconvenient and dangerous for drivers.

In summary, the 2014 Dodge Journey has had its fair share of issues, particularly with transmission problems and head gasket issues. Potential buyers should be aware of these problems and consider them when making a purchasing decision. It is essential to thoroughly inspect any used vehicle and understand its history before making a purchase to avoid future headaches.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-30
  • VIN: 3C4PDDEG9ET
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: The ABS module has failed. There was a recall R61 issued previously for this issue of moisture causing ABS module failures. The original recall was completed on this vehicle [XXX]. There is no documentation that the ABS module itself was replaced at that time since this is a tiered recall. The ABS module has now failed and there is evidence on the electrical plug that moisture was present during a recent inspection by an ASE certified mechanic. I took the car to Academy CJD dealership in Tipton, Indiana and they refused to perform the recall again since it supposedly had already been completed. They wanted to charge me a fee to 'diagnose' further. I contend that even though the recall or partial recall was previously completed, the ABS has failed due to the issue the original recall was supposed to prevent. I have a picture of the ABS electrical connector showing evidence of shorting due to moisture. Please let me know if Dodge should be required to complete the recall again, since the ABS failed again. Negative 2014 Dodge Journey car reviews

  1. Eduardo Rodriguez 2024-11-15

This is my first ever vehicle review and I want to share my experience with this particular vehicle. Me and my boyfriend bought this vehicle 2 years ago and unfortunately, it was a headache from day one. It started with tires wearing down to nothing within a few months. We brought it into the shop and found out that it was the rear links. We got them replaced and then within the next month, we needed new struts, which we also got replaced. We then had to replace the wheel bearings twice within 6 months of each other. In between all this, we made sure the car went in for alignments. We thought we were in the clear until yet again the back tires are 3 months old and will need to be replaced next month. Within 2 years we had to go through at least 8 sets of tires. We unfortunately bit the bullet and just traded the vehicle in early and got a more reliable and safer vehicle (which at this point is any vehicle but this one). Although we had a tough time with this vehicle, we have never had this kind of problems with our 2010 dodge journey. This vehicle is a money guzzler and unless you are prepared to fix it every few months, I would recommend staying away from this vehicle altogether.

  2. Harvey Lehner 2024-11-05

The 2013 Journey has been a challenging vehicle for me. However, I have learned a lot about how to maintain it properly. I have had to replace the tires and brakes a few times, but with regular maintenance, I have been able to keep it running smoothly. The display screen can be difficult to read in bright daylight, but I have found ways to adjust it to my liking. Occasionally, the radio station changes on its own, but I have learned to work around it. The car has ample storage space, which is a great feature. While the paint job has not held up as well as I had hoped, I have taken steps to prevent further rusting. Overall, I have found the Journey to be a reliable and practical vehicle.

  3. Alexandre Hessel 2024-10-27

This car has had a number of issues, including major engine repairs starting at less than 50,000 miles, and multiple attempts by the dealership to fix the problems with no long-term success. Despite our attempts to lemon law the vehicle, Chrysler denied any wrongdoing. The car also had recurring issues with the rear main seal and lifter/cam, and at 100,000 miles, the fuel injectors and spark plugs needed to be replaced. While the car did experience some transmission issues at 104,000 miles, we are confident that these problems can be resolved. Overall, we believe that this car has the potential to be a reliable vehicle with the right repairs and maintenance.

This is a great value for what is offered in terms of options. However, like every other American vehicle I've purchased, things that shouldn't break often do. Here are some examples of things that have gone wrong or broken on this less than four-year-old vehicle: 1. Nav/Radio 8.4 Uconnect had to be replaced at 30,000 miles because it stopped working. 2. The plastic piece that covers the metal components on the outside part of the front seats (driver and passenger) broke due to cheap plastic and poor design. 3. At 73,000 miles, the torque converter failed and the transmission needed to be overhauled. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership for repair and took four days before it was returned. On the bright side, everything that needed to be fixed or replaced was under factory warranty, so there was no monetary cost to me, only frustration and aggravation. If I had known that these items were going to fail/break, I would have traded the vehicle in at 36,000 miles because that is the useful life of a Dodge vehicle.

I understand the frustration you have experienced with your Dodge Journey. However, it is important to note that every vehicle has its own unique set of issues that may arise over time. It is commendable that you have taken the necessary steps to address the problems you have encountered. As a confident solution, I would recommend seeking the advice of a certified mechanic who can provide a thorough diagnosis of the electronic drain on your battery. With their expertise, they can provide a long-term solution that will save you time and money in the future. It is important to remember that with proper maintenance and care, any vehicle can provide reliable transportation for years to come. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Hey there! This car is perfect for big families!

This car saved my family's life. It's worth every penny. We ended up on two wheels and immediately went back on to four instead of flipping. Someone did a U-turn without checking if anyone was coming up on them. They turned out in front of us and we had to correct quickly. We heard the skidding of our tires as the passenger side came up, but thankfully nothing more than that! I believe strongly that our children and ourselves are okay thanks to our Dodge Journey!

I recently decided to downsize my vehicles and ended up selling my 2012 fully loaded Malibu and 2006 Honda Element AWD. I was looking for a car that combined the comfort of the Malibu with the space and AWD of the Honda. After considering the Edge and Journey, I found that the Journey offered more value for the price, especially with my supplier discount. The dealer even gave me a great deal on a new black version, which I wasn't initially a fan of until they painted the calipers red. The only issue I had was with the brake switch on a rear taillight, which would stay on or come on for no reason. Despite this, the car has performed well this winter and I have been very satisfied as a driver. Although, I have noticed that passengers are not as comfortable in the front passenger seat.

The car's seats are set very low, making it difficult to get in and out of. However, the gas mileage is okay.

You won't find a better midsize, 7 passenger, AWD SUV at this price!
