2013 Kia Sorento problems

The Kia Sorento (Korean: 기아 쏘렌토, romanized: Gia Sorento) is a series of automobiles manufactured by the South Korean manufacturer Kia since 2002 through four generations. Initially a compact SUV built on a body-on-frame chassis, the second-generation Sorento transitioned to a larger car-based platform which placed it into the mid-size crossover SUV class, and has been developed alongside the Hyundai Santa Fe.
First generation (BL; 2002)
2002–2006
Debuting in February 2002, the first generation Sorento was a traditional truck-based body-on-frame SUV. All American Sorentos also came with dual front airbags and dual side-curtain airbags in the front and rear. An optional four-wheel drive system with low range received praise for adding to the vehicle's off-road ability.
It had two transmission options, a 5-speed manual or 4- and 5-speed automatic (pre-2005 models have a 4-speed automatic, whilst 2005 Sorentos came with a 5-speed tip-tronic style automatic). First generation Sorentos are equipped with a Hyundai-manufactured 3.5-liter 24-valve DOHC V6 engine producing 192 hp (143 kW) at 5500 rpm, and 217 lb⋅ft (294 N⋅m) of torque at 3,000 rpm. Common features of the first generation Sorento were 4-wheel disc brakes (standard on all models), optional anti-lock braking system (ABS), and a 21.1-gallon (79.9 litres) fuel tank.
There were two trim levels available for the Sorento: either the base LX or the up-level EX. Both models included an AM/FM stereo with a single-disc CD player and an eight-speaker audio system, dual front airbags and front and rear side-impact SRS airbags (side-impact front and rear SRS airbags for North American-market models ONLY), cloth seating surfaces, a power-adjustable front driver's seat, air conditioning, power door locks and windows, tinted windows, aluminum-alloy wheels, keyless entry, wood interior trim accents, a split-folding second-row rear bench seat, and monotone exterior paint as standard equipment. Features such as satellite radio (on later models), leather-trimmed seating surfaces, heated front seats, a ten-speaker premium audio system, cassette and CD players, an in-dash CD changer, power front bucket seats, seventeen-inch (17") aluminum-alloy wheels, a power sunroof, two-tone exterior paint, and a security system were available regardless of trim level choice.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-13
- VIN: 5XYKT3A68DG
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: After having the recent recall completed at the dealer, shortly thereafter I noticed that the ABS warning light, traction control warning light, and the downhill assist warning light all came on and stayed on while driving. The service department at the dealership says that these events are not related to the recent recall. I checked online and the problem seems to be a faulty speed sensor in the hub is to blame. There are NUMEROUS complaints from KIA and Hyundai owners that all point to this part having failed. The 2011 to 2015 KIA Sorento (like mine), seems to be especially problematic. I feel this is a safety related issue that should be remedied by the dealer and the expense for this often-failed part should not be borne by the owners. My car has less than 40K miles and is not cruddy or rusty underneath. If this is not addressed, several safety features will not function and the drivers of these cars, as well as others on the road will be in peril. MANY owners are just driving with the warning lights on due to the complexity and high cost of this repair. I feel KIA should address this so as to save lives and show their customers some respect. Thanks! PS: I had the vehicle plugged into a code reader at a local well-known auto parts store and they confirmed that it was a wheel speed sensor.

Congratulations on your new purchase! It's great to hear that you decided to stick with Kia and upgrade to the SX V6. I can understand why you were considering the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but it sounds like the Sorento was the perfect fit for you. The 2-tone leather, dual roofs, nav, keyless start, lighting package, and chrome wheels all sound like fantastic features. I hope you continue to enjoy your Sorento and all it has to offer!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with you. I've owned a lot of vehicles in my time, from cars to SUVs to pickup trucks, and I have to say that I'm pretty picky. But I love to drive and going to Auto Shows is like going to Disney World for me! When I was looking for a new vehicle, I wanted to make sure I got a lot for my money and that it was well-made and would last. And so far, I'm happy to say that I got exactly what I wanted! I've driven 6,000 miles already and haven't had a single issue. Sure, I don't get the advertised MPG, but I never have on any vehicle I've owned. I didn't get the V6 because I wanted great MPG, but even the Honda Fit I use as a company car doesn't get the advertised MPG either. Anyway, I did my research, test drove a few options, and I'm very happy with my decision! Thanks for listening.

I'm so glad I chose the Kia Sorento V6! I never thought I would consider a Kia, but after being disappointed with Subaru, I decided to test drive the Sorento and I was pleasantly surprised! The car drives like a dream, with a solid and smooth ride, great horsepower, and a sharp look both inside and out. In fact, I think the Sorento V6 is even better than the BMW 5X. It has better performance, a better price, and a sharper look. I was really impressed with how well the car drove and it has everything that the BMW 5X has. I couldn't be happier with my choice of vehicle!

I'm so glad to hear that you found the perfect car for you! It sounds like the 2013 Sorento is exactly what you were looking for, with great gas mileage and a smooth, comfortable ride. It's great that you were able to find all the features you wanted, including the back-up camera. It's always exciting to find a car that exceeds your expectations, especially when it's a great value like the Sorento. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

My wife and I test drove several cars including a Honda CRV, a Mazda 7, a Nissan Murano, and a Chevy Equinox over a 3-5 day period. After considering standard equipment, comfort, quality, and overall value for money, we found that the Kia outperformed the others. The cabin is quiet, the ride is smooth, and the leather interior is beautiful. The V-6 SX model comes with many features such as Bluetooth, voice command, an awesome Infinity surround system, and other toys as standard. The third row seating is a bit tight for adults, but it's perfect for my two grandsons. The gas mileage is not great, but it's good. On a trip to Louisiana, we averaged 25mpg over 450 miles, while in everyday city driving, we get around 19-20mpg. Overall, we are extremely happy with our choice, especially with the warranty which is second to none.

The vehicle is fantastic in every aspect except for its MPG. My wife and I have been driving it for a while now and we consistently get around 21-22.5 MPG in the city and on the highway. On a recent interstate trip with just two people in the car and no cargo, we managed to get 22.5 MPG. As someone who has owned many different brands of vehicles over the years, I have found that only Honda and Toyota have been able to achieve their claimed MPG. We did consider the Honda CR-V, but unfortunately, the trade-in value and price were not satisfactory.

Hello! I recently leased a black SUV from Kia Sacramento and have driven about 800 miles in the last week. While I have mixed feelings about the vehicle, I wanted to share my experience so far. I opted for the GDI with the assumption of getting a mixed mileage of about 25mpg, but unfortunately, I am only getting about 19-23 mpg in the city and on the highway. This has been a bit of a letdown, but I am hopeful that it will increase as the engine breaks in. The power seems adequate with 1-2 people in the car, but with 4-5 people, the car feels underpowered. In hindsight, I wish I had opted for the V6 engine if I was only going to get 20mpg anyway. The ride is a bit stiff and tends to wear me down, which is something I didn't experience in my well-sprung Camry. Lastly, I have had some issues with UVO's Bluetooth connectivity. Overall, I hope this helps anyone considering this SUV and I look forward to seeing how it performs in the future!

Although I love the looks of my 2013 Kia Sorento, I have unfortunately experienced multiple engine problems over the past 5 years. Despite having to replace the engine twice and the harness once, I am currently experiencing another issue with the engine light blinking. However, I am confident in the service provided by Ray Skillman and trust that they will take care of this issue as well. While I may feel hesitant to take my Sorento on long trips, I am still grateful for the assistance provided by Ray Skillman.

The Sorento is a comfortable, quiet, and well-appointed vehicle. However, the gas mileage is a concern as it falls short of the advertised numbers. We were disappointed to find that it only gets about 23mpg's at best on the highway, which is significantly lower than the dealership's initial claim of 32mpg. Despite being sued, they have only adjusted it to 30mpg, which still puts the Sorento below its competitors. Our Volvo, on the other hand, consistently meets the advertised mileage. If you are considering the Sorento, it's important to keep this in mind. However, it does have other great features that may make it worth considering. It's important to do your research and make an informed decision.

The motor was replaced at 20,000 miles. I had to contact the corporate office to obtain information about a recall that the dealer failed to disclose. The driver's seat leather has completely cracked and is falling apart. The side plastic molding on the seat had to be replaced twice. I have gone through two sets of brakes and had five alignments done in 120,000 miles, yet the issue still persists. The radio head unit is completely inoperable, with no power, and the fuses are fine. I would not recommend this car, and I hope that it gets stolen from my driveway.
