2013 Honda Cr-z problems
The Honda CR-Z is a sport compact hybrid electric car manufactured by Honda and marketed as a "sport hybrid coupe." The CR-Z combines a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain with traditional sports car elements, including a 2+2 seating arrangement (excluding North American models where the backseat is removed) and a standard 6-speed manual transmission. The CR-Z is regarded as the spiritual successor to the second-generation Honda CR-X in both name and exterior design.
In the U.S., the CR-Z is one of the least polluting hybrid vehicles available and is rated as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) as defined by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The CR-Z is the third gasoline-electric hybrid model offered by Honda (after the 2000–2006 Insight and 2003–2005 Civic Hybrid) that can be equipped with a manual transmission, and the only one in its class.
The CR-Z is the sixth unique version of Honda's Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology since the technology was first launched in the first generation Insight 3 door hatchback. Sales of the CR-Z began in Japan in February 2010. Sales in the U.S. began in August 2010, and production ended by the end of 2016.

Common 2013 Honda Cr-z problems
Based on the information provided in the sources, here are common problems reported by owners of the Honda CR-Z 2013:
- Drive Shaft Breakages: There have been reports of drive shaft breakages in some CR-Z cars, indicating a potential issue that owners need to monitor. Keeping an eye on the drive shafts can help prevent unexpected failures and ensure the car's drivability.
- Rear Visibility: The design of the rear window with two screens can impact rear visibility, especially with road grime collecting on the upright strip of glass. This lack of rear visibility can be a safety concern, particularly in adverse weather conditions. Additionally, the absence of a rear wiper to clear the glass can further exacerbate visibility issues.
- Wind and Road Noise: Some owners have complained about excessive wind and road noise in the CR-Z. While these characteristics were present in the car from new, addressing them can be challenging. Owners may consider fitting tires with lower road noise ratings to mitigate the issue or seek advice from Honda technicians if the noise levels are deemed excessive.
These reported problems highlight various issues that owners of the Honda CR-Z 2013 may encounter. Addressing these concerns promptly can help maintain the car's performance, safety, and overall driving experience.
How long do Honda CR-Z hybrid batteries last?
Your Honda hybrid battery life expectancy is between 6 to 10 years or up to 100,000 miles.
Why did Honda discontinue the CR-Z?
Discontinuation. On June 17, 2016, Honda announced that the CR-Z would be discontinued at the end of the year to make room for the Accord Hybrid and Clarity.
Does Honda CR-Z have timing belt or chain?
Owners don't have to worry about changing the timing belt, as the CR-Z has a maintenance-free timing chain. However brake fluid needs replacing every three years/37,500 miles, and the coolant replaced at 10 years/125,000 miles (and five years/62,500 miles after that).

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-26
- VIN: JHMZF1C69DS
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Front driver side axle rusted and snapped in half - in line with safety recalls #20V769 & #20V770. Currently, it is available for inspection. I am hoping to begin repairs within the next 3 days. I will save the defective parts and take photos for inspection, upon request. This occurred from a complete stop, turning onto an extremely busy highway. I was able roll into the middle lane to avoid collision. My vehicle was disabled in the middle lane for roughly an hour. I exited my vehicle and stood on the side of the road while I waited for a tow truck to arrive. Due to the high traffic, it was unsafe (for other motorists) for my vehicle to remain in the center lane for more than a moment and I was unsafe inside the vehicle. The only indication leading up to the incident was a dull thud followed by immediate loss of accelleration, while legally crossing lanes. There was a near collision from oncoming traffic; fortunately my vehicle was visible and oncoming traffic came to a stop, allowing me to slowly coast into the middle lane. No warning lamps, lights, or messages. The vehicle was inspected by a Honda dealer, the rusted and snapped axle was confirmed by a tehnician. This exact incident is covered under two different Honda recalls but the model of my vehicle is not covered. The Honda CR-Z is a lesser known model no longer in production, no doubt the reason it is not included. My vehicle falls under all other guidelines exactly; i.e., model year, registered state, nature of the failure.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that SRS units degrade over time. The contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was 100,400. The dealership stated that the contact would be liable to pay for the repairs.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-06
- VIN: JHMZF1D40DS

- Summary: Check airbag light came on. Went to Honda dealership for diagnostic. Was informed that entire SRS unit is defective and needs replaced. This unit controls the entire airbag system. I was given a repair invoice and was told I was liable to pay. Honda manufacturer will NOT pay for this. This is a safety defect and I need to report this.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-08-22
- VIN: JHMZF1C66DS
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TAKATA RECALL THE FIRST SAFETY RECALL LETTER WAS DISTRIBUTED IN MARCH. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED IN JUNE, AS PARTS WERE TO BE AVAILABLE IN SUMMER OF 2016. THE DEALER STATED THAT I WOULD BE CALLED WHEN THE PARTS HAD ARRIVED. I CALLED AGAIN IN AUGUST TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF THE PARTS, ONLY TO DISCOVER THEY HAD NOT EVEN BEEN ORDERED. I ORDERED THE PARTS AGAIN AND NOW MUST WAIT 'TWO WEEKS TO THREE MONTHS' FOR THE PARTS TO ARRIVE. I FEEL THAT THE DEALER HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THIS LIFE-THREATENING DEFECT IN MY VEHICLE, WITHOUT CHARGE, WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME PERIOD (60 DAYS FROM FIRST CONTACT WITH THE DEALER FOR A REPAIR APPOINTMENT). CONSIDERING THE SERIOUS NATURE OF THIS SAFETY RECALL, ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO EXPEDITE THIS PROCESS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

- Summary: TAKATA RECALL , HONDA STATES THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE YET TO COMPLY WITH THE RECALL. I HAVE REQUESTED A LOANER VEHICLE FROM THE PHONE NUMBER PROVIDED 888-234-2138. THEY PREVIOUSLY TOOK MY INFORMATION AND SAID SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT ME. NO ONE HAS.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-04-20
- VIN: JHMZF1D44DS
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TAKATA RECALL LAST WEEK WE WERE NOTIFIED THAT OUR CAR HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THE TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL. UP UNTIL THAT TIME OUR VIN NUMBER WAS NOT LISTED AS HAVING BEEN AFFECTED. AS OF THE END OF MARCH 2016, WE ARE TOLD IT NOW IS. WE ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO DRIVE OUR VEHICLE AND HAVE BEEN GIVEN A LOANER CAR, FOR THE 'NEXT FEW MONTHS' WHILE OUR HONDA DEALER, HERE IN FLORIDA, GETS THE REPLACEMENT AIR BAG. WE ARE BEING TOLD THEY 'HOPE TO BE ABLE TO REPLACE THIS BY THE END OF THE SUMMER.' WE ASKED, WHEN BEING TOLD WE MUST SIGN A LIABILITY WAIVER (IN ORDER TO GET THE LOANER CAR) ABOUT JUST TRADING IN THE CAR. THE DEALER TOLD US, NO ' BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT SELL IT, REPAIR IT, AND DID NOT HAVE ROOM TO STORE IT ON THEIR LOT ' SO, IT IS NOW STORED IN OUR DRIVEWAY ' USELESS TO US, EVEN THOUGH WE ARE PAYING MONTHLY. I HAVE SOME CONCERNS TOO OVER OUR 'FREE' RENTAL CAR REPLACEMENT. OUR HONDA CRZ IS A HYBRID VEHICLE AND WITH OUR DRIVING WE AVERAGE 42.2 MILES PER GALLON. HONDA IS USING ENTERPRISE CAR RENTAL FOR THE LOANER CARS. ENTERPRISE DOES NOT CARRY HYBRID VEHICLES IN THIS MARKET (TAMPA BAY.) THE 'COMPARABLE' REPLACEMENT VEHICLE WE WERE GIVEN IS A NISSAN SENTRA AND WE ARE GETTING ABOUT 28 MILES PER GALLON. SO, WE GET 14.2 MILES LESS, PER GALLON, IN OUR DRIVING. OUR 'FREE' CAR REPLACEMENT IS COSTING US ABOUT $100 A MONTH. I MIGHT ADD TOO, THAT WE RECENTLY PLACED NEW TIRES ON OUR CRZ, FOR JUST UNDER $1,000. NOW THOSE TIRES SIT, UNMOVED IN THE FLORIDA SUN FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, PUTTING THEM AT A HIGH RISK OF DEVELOPING FLAT SPOTS AND US AT HAVING TO SPEND ANOTHER POTENTIAL $1,000! IF THE CAR IS FIXED WHEN THEY THINK IT 'MIGHT' BE FIXED, WE WOULD HAVE SPENT OVER $400 IN ADDITIONAL FUEL COSTS ALONE, NOT TO MENTION OUR ADDED TIME ON ADDITIONAL TRIPS TO THE GAS STATION AND THE POTENTIAL LOSS OF THE FOUR NEW TIRES!
2013 Honda Cr-z recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2013 Honda Cr-z.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013 Acura ILX, 2015 RDX, 2005-2010 and 2012 RL, 2009-2014 TL, 2010 and 2012 ZDX, 2007-2011 CR-V, 2011-2013 and 2015 CR-Z, 2009-2013 Fit, 2013 Fit EV, 2010-2011 and 2013 Insight and 2007-2014 Ridgeline vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with driver frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

I absolutely adore my CR-Z, even though I've only had it for two months! As a previous owner of a 1985 CRX-SI, I can confidently say that the CR-Z is the perfect blend of the classic CRX and modern technology. When I was searching for a new car, my top priority was finding one in my favourite colour: PURPLE. Luckily, the Passion Berry Pearl is a stunning deep/dark purple that I can't get enough of. Admittedly, the continuously variable transmission took some getting used to, as I've always driven manual transmissions, but I'm really enjoying not having to use a clutch. Although I haven't quite achieved the mileage advertised on the Honda website, I'm still managing to average 30 mpg despite mostly driving in the city with lots of hills and stop-and-go traffic. I'm eagerly anticipating my first road trip to really put the fuel efficiency to the test!

I've been the proud owner of a 6-speed CR-Z for the past 11 months, and I still look forward to getting behind the wheel. Let's be honest, if you're considering the 6-speed, then mileage is not the only thing on your mind. It's all about the drive! The windier the road, the better. Any time at the wheel, listening to a great sound system, is an absolute joy. Even long trips become more enjoyable. What this car delivers on is very solid, crisp road handling, head-turning good looks, maneuverability in tight spaces, Honda quality, great fit and finish, very conservative fuel consumption, and it's just plain fun to drive!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my new car. I recently traded in my 2007 Ford Edge for a 2011 CR-Z EX CVT. It took me a little while to get used to the smaller size and lower visibility, but I'm really enjoying the fun driving experience and the fact that I'm saving 50% on gas money! It's definitely a comfort in more ways than one.

If you have fond memories of the CRX, the CRZ is sure to capture your heart at first sight. Even if you don't, the CRZ's unique feel will either win you over or leave you cold. On the plus side, the sporty exterior is eye-catching, there are three distinct performance modes to choose from, the cabin is intimate and well-designed, and there are plenty of technical features for the MSRP. The handling is tight and the sound acoustics are excellent. On the downside, the hybrid fuel efficiency is lacklustre, there are blind spots in the quarter panels, the economy-mode performance is mushy, and the navigation system is dated. Overall, the CRZ is a great choice for commuters who want a fun driving experience and a sporty look. As long as you have reasonable expectations for MPG, you won't be disappointed.

Hey there! Let me give you the good and the bad. First things first, it's important to know that this is not the old CRX. It seems like Honda was trying to cater to a different segment than the tuner crowd. However, in my opinion, this is a really good-looking car that gets even better gas mileage than advertised. I'm actually averaging 39.6 mpg in the city and 45.5 mpg on the highway! This is a hybrid that uses battery assistance, but in the year that I've owned it, it has worked perfectly. You don't hear many complaints from other owners about battery life or reliability either. I believe the batteries last for over 15 years, and although they were originally very expensive, they have come way down in price to around $1000 to $1500 to replace now. They have gotten very few complaints and seem to last a very long time, possibly even longer than the 15-year projections. The interior is sporty and fits me well, but I'm 5 foot 9. I love the fact that it has not only different driving modes from economy to regular to sport mode that you can put it into, but it also has paddle shifters! I can use economy mode to save gas, or if I'm in a hurry, toss it in sport mode and zip around town. Again, it's not super fast, but in sport mode, it still gets up and goes. It's not meant to be a tuner, but when pulling out into traffic, I can even use the paddle shifters to downshift and give it that extra oomph to squeeze into traffic. (Yes, I'm one of those drivers...lol.) The interior is a bit busy at first with many buttons, but you quickly learn where everything is and come to enjoy it. The dash is digital with a cool display, and again, you come to love it. The seats are acceptable, with good cloth and stitching, but on long trips to other states, you can feel a little uncomfortable after a while. However, I'm attributing this to the ride more than the seats. You definitely feel the road in this car. It's not a Lexus or a true sports car, so although it's fun to drive, don't expect the far end range of comfort or sport. But hey, it's not priced like a luxury car either! My biggest complaint is the blind spots and lack of backup or side cameras. I will be adding those as aftermarket products this year. However, I believe Honda should have built in these safeguards knowing there were blind spots. It's worth noting that there is no back seat in the American version, unlike the European and Chinese versions. While it's not recommended or approved, I've seen people place a 4-wheeler ATV replacement bench seat in the back that folds down and screw them into place. It actually looked pretty good and could work as an emergency jumper seat. If you're buying this car, you should know that it doesn't have a back seat, so you should probably leave it alone. The hatchback storage is bigger than a trunk and smaller than many other hatchbacks, so don't expect it to carry everything that many other hatchbacks can carry. After one year, I'm giving this car a 4.5 out of 5 stars. It's a fun car to drive with good gas mileage, good reliability, great looks, and a fun factor. Just keep in mind that it's not the CRX of old, and you will be happy with this car. Now, go enjoy the ride!

I recently traded in my Honda CRZ after owning it for 2 years. Although I bought it new, I didn't feel that it was worth the 20k I paid for it. While the car has potential, it lacks the thought process needed to make it unique and valuable. Unfortunately, the interior is made of cheap materials that scratch easily, especially since the car is low to the ground. The engine also shuts off when you stop the car, and the car is prone to dents. Additionally, the car is slow and has some blind spots. However, I am now enjoying my new Dodge Dart, which is faster and gets the same gas mileage.

The vehicle looks really cool and is sporty for a hybrid, making it fun to drive. However, it is important to note that the 12V battery in these cars is not very reliable and may need to be replaced frequently. Additionally, the air conditioner is known to be weak and may struggle on hotter days. Despite these issues, the 6 speed manual transmission is a great feature. Overall, while this car may not be the most reliable, it still has some great qualities that make it worth considering.
