The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by the German automaker BMW since 1977. It is the successor to the BMW E3 "New Six" sedan and is now in its seventh generation.

The 7 Series is BMW's flagship car and is only available in a sedan bodystyle (including long wheelbase and limousine models). It traditionally introduces technologies and exterior design themes before other models in BMW's lineup.

The first generation of the 7 Series was powered by straight-6 petrol engines, and following generations have been powered by inline-4, straight-6, V8 and V12 engines with both natural aspiration and turbocharging. Since 1995, diesel engines have been optional in the 7 Series.

Unlike the 3 Series and 5 Series sedans, BMW does not offer a full M model, but once offered an M performance variant, the BMW M760 with its 6.6L V12 (at the time the most powerful BMW ever made, not to be confused with BMW 760 6.6 V12 which does not offer the same performance). The Alpina B7 (G12) served as the high-performance variant of the 7 Series.

Common 1992 Bmw 750 problems

The BMW 750 1992, equipped with the M70 V12 engine, is known for several common problems that have been reported by owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:

  1. Electronic Motor Load (EML) problems: The EML system, introduced in the M70 V12 in 1988, is a fly-by-wire control system that was extremely reliable in its early years. However, after nearly 30 years, the system can become unreliable due to aging electronic throttle bodies, cylinder identification sensors, and the complexity of having two sets of everything that must work in concert. The EML system can cause problems, especially between 50 and 60 MPH, where it may exhibit a resonant frequency that can exacerbate any weaknesses in the system.
  2. Water pump bearing failure: Water pumps on the M70 V12 can suffer sudden bearing failure, which is more challenging to fix on the M73 due to its larger crank pulley damper. This issue can lead to the engine going onto six cylinders and triggering the EML light.
  3. Oil leaks: Oil leaks are a significant problem in the M70 V12 engine, particularly around the sump gasket. The sump is a two-layer alloy affair, and the sump to engine block gasket is the most likely source of leaks. The correct repair involves removing the gearbox to access the rear 10mm sump bolts, but some owners opt to drill suitably sized holes into the sump instead.
  4. Clutch failure: The clutch can fail, causing the fan to struggle to produce enough airflow. This issue is more common in the V8 engines but can also affect the V12.
  5. Worn-out bushes, lights, and wiring: These are minor issues but can still cause problems for BMW 750 1992 owners. Worn-out bushes, lights, and wiring can lead to various electrical and mechanical faults, which can be time-consuming and expensive to fix.
  6. Corrosive areas: The E32 7 Series, including the BMW 750 1992, is prone to corrosion in certain areas, such as rear wheel arches, sills, and rear subframe mounts. Regular inspections and maintenance are essential to prevent and address corrosion issues.

In summary, the BMW 750 1992, powered by the M70 V12 engine, has several common problems that owners should be aware of. These issues range from EML system failures to oil leaks, clutch failures, and corrosion. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent and address these problems, ensuring the longevity and reliability of the vehicle.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 1998-04-01
  • VIN: WBAGC8314ND
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
  • Summary: TWO SEPARATE FUEL LINE LEAKS, RESULTING IN RAW GASOLINE LEAKING ONTO ENGINE ABOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WERE DETECTED BY NOTICING FUEL SMELL AT IDLE. IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH FELLOW BMW 7-SERIES OWNERS ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS SERIES CAR (E32). FUEL HOSES GET HARD AND NO LONGER SEAL AGAINST THE METAL FUEL LINES, CAUSING LEAKS UNDER PRESSURE. I REVIEWED YOUR INCIDENT DATABASE AND FOUND REFERENCES TO 3 ENGINE FIRES THAT MIGHT BE ACCOUNTABLE TO THE FUEL LEAKS. THERE SHOULD BE A GOVERNMENT MANDATED RECALL FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE AFFECTED FUEL LINES. SINCERELY, DR. MITCHELL LOESCHER.
