2019 Ford Escape problems
The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company since the 2001 model year. The first Ford SUV derived from a car platform, the Escape fell below the Ford Explorer in size; the Escape is currently sized between the Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge. The 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid was the first hybrid-electric vehicle from Ford, and the first hybrid produced as an SUV.
The first two generations of the Escape used the Ford CD2 platform (jointly developed with Mazda), leading to the release of the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner; as with the Escape, both the Tribute and Mariner were marketed in North America. In Europe, the Escape was initially branded as the Ford Maverick from 2001 to 2008 (replacing a Nissan-produced SUV).
Under the mid-2000s "One Ford" globalization strategy, the third and fourth-generation designs of the Escape have been unified with the Ford Kuga, designed by Ford of Europe. Sharing a common body and chassis underpinnings (and several engines), the Escape and Kuga are manufactured in their home markets. As with previous generations, the fourth-generation Escape is offered with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Outside of North America, the Ford Escape is marketed in Australia, China, and Taiwan.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-26
- VIN: 1FMCU9GD1KU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: My check engine light first came on in June 2024 (3 months ago), and said there were too many cylinder 4 misfires, and to replace the spark plugs. This was done, check engine light was cleared. My car began showing an "engine fault, service now" error 2.5 weeks ago and it sounded like water was "rushing" in the engine. The check engine light came on 3 days later, got the codes read, took it to a mechanic, then exchanged the ignition coil. When I went to pick it up, the car shuddered whenever trying to accelerate, so much so that my car wouldn't accelerate, and I had to have to towed to the Ford dealer. The mechanic confirmed that with the codes and the symptoms, and he previously worked at Ford, there is a coolant leak into the engine block and I would likely need a new engine. There is a Technical Service Bulletin out for this issue, so they know it exists. The dealer has not confirmed the issue yet, they said it will probably take 2 weeks before they get to that, then it would likely be 1-3 months to get the parts here, then they would start repairing it, but there were 3 vehicles ahead of mine with the exact same issue. My safety was put at risk because the car would not accelerate to the speed limit, increasing likelihood of a wreck, and the engine felt like it was going to die at any moment when I returned the one block back to the mechanic.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-28
- VIN: 1FMCU0GD5KU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: This Ford Escape has a known engine problem that results in a spark plug seizing into the engine block. This known issue causes the motor to hesitate, run poorly, become sluggish and ultimately fail potentially in traffic. This concern becomes a danger to other drivers as well as the owner of the vehicle. The dealership immediately knew of the concern was aware of the problem when we called. It took them minute to confirm the problem and they stated to us, "we've seen this problem, on this specific engine a number of time." Ford is aware of the problem and provides some or no assistance to consumers. They are provide some assistance to my family, but I'm not sure why they are not fixing the known problem at Ford's total expense. This specific vehicle has 55,000 miles and is 2 month outside of the 60 month engine and drivetrain warranty. Ford customer service will not advance our conversation beyond the dealership requesting help for a known issue. My sisters safety was at risk before identifying the concern. Ford is making her pay $4700 and a 3 week car rental to repair for their known issue. This seems blatantly unfair and unsafe to consumers. sincerely

The 2019 Titanium 2.0 Turbo AWD Escape wasn't on my radar until last year when I was shopping for a smaller car for my stepson. Although he ended up with the small car, I was intrigued by the 2017 Escape that had just come in from a test drive. I was blown away by the sporty drive and decided to do some research. After driving five different small SUVs, I found that the Escape, originally the German-built KUGA brought to the USA in 2013, was the clear winner in terms of drive and quality. Despite some negative reviews, I found the quality to be excellent, and I particularly liked the dash layout, including the cluster, radio, and screen setup, as well as the big, well-placed air vents that cool down the car quickly. I average 23mpg zipping around town, including short off and on freeway ramps, and I haven't taken a road trip yet. If you compare that to any other AWD SUV in the same range of 245 HP, that's about what you get. It's worth it to me to have the acceleration available when I need it, as I find it often safer to have the ability to speed up to merge or avoid a situation than just hope others avoid me. I mostly drive in regular mode but drop to sport mode on some freeway ramps with the big circular entrance ramp and also if slogging in slow freeway traffic 40-55 to bring the RPM from 1200 to 1800-2000 for better response. Thankfully, you can turn off the annoying stop/start 'feature' that stops the engine at every stop light. It works, I just don't like it, and if you are trying to cool down or heat up the car, you won't like it either. I have read that other vehicles don't allow you to turn it off. I understand the totally redesigned Escape comes out soon.I hope everything works out for you. I'm glad I was able to get mine with the current big discounts off MSRP. I don't think you can find a better vehicle for the price, or anything close to it that would cost many thousands more.

This car caught our attention right away. We think it's the perfect size for a couple just starting out. The car's technology is fascinating, especially the Ford Sync 3 App.

Congratulations on your first new car purchase! It's great to hear that after a year and a half and 7000 miles, your car is still running smoothly. Your trip out west to Montana sounds like it was a wonderful experience, and it's fantastic to hear that your car provided a comfortable and quiet ride. Averaging 31.4 on the trip was an added bonus! While your Tiguan may still hold the title for the best car you've ever owned, it's wonderful to hear that your Escape is a close second. With 13k miles on it now, it's impressive to see that it's still performing well. Even after hitting a deer in Montana at 60 mph, it's great to hear that the damage was minimal and your car is still providing a comfortable ride with good mileage. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Definitely worth every penny for the extra options!

Unfortunately, we found that the 2012 Hyundai Tuscon had more room than this vehicle, so we decided not to pursue it further. Additionally, the back seats were not spacious enough for our needs, which is why we did not take it for a test drive. Despite these issues, I gave it a 3-star rating as I was required to provide a rating to submit my review.

I really wanted to enjoy driving this car, as it has a smooth ride and accelerates quickly. Unfortunately, there was a recall that resulted in an engine replacement at just 32k miles. Not long after, I noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust, which turned out to be issues with the turbo. Although it was fixed, the same problem occurred again shortly after, this time due to issues with the head gasket. Despite having it fixed, I am now experiencing white smoke again, and with no warranty, it's becoming a real concern. The constant mechanical issues have been a real disappointment. Additionally, the back seats are quite awkward and it's difficult to fit a car seat properly.

The battery failed twice while under warranty. It is disappointing that the local dealership does not have qualified service technicians who can accurately diagnose and repair the issue in a timely manner. Additionally, the cost of repairs is unreasonably high, especially after the warranty has expired. In the future, I will consider other brands such as VW with a 4-year warranty or Hyundai/Kia with a 5-year warranty.

Bought it in June and unfortunately had to have a new engine put in, which took over 2 months. Since then, everything on the car has been replaced. It has needed to be in the shop 3 times since, and the gas mileage is not great. It would be great if Henry Ford could experience this car for a week, especially with the current gas prices and frequent trips to the shop.

I love my car, but I do have a few complaints. The USB plug in the front area is in a difficult spot behind the shifter, making it hard to plug in a phone cord. It would be great if it could be moved to a more accessible location. Additionally, I've had some trouble with the wiring due to squirrels chewing on it. This has caused over $10k in damage since March 2005, which has been frustrating and time-consuming. It would be great if the design engineers could consider using a different material for the wiring to prevent this issue. Overall, I really enjoy my car and hope that improvements can be made to make it even better!
