1994 Buick Regal problems
The Buick Regal is a line of mid-size cars marketed by Buick since 1973. For nearly its entire production, the Regal has served as the premium mid-size/intermediate offering of the Buick product range. Introduced as a submodel of the Buick Century, the model line is currently in its sixth generation. From the 1970s to the 1990s, the Regal served as the Buick counterpart of the Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.
Originally introduced as a personal luxury coupe, the Regal was later expanded to a full model line. To showcase its success in NASCAR racing, from 1982 to 1987, Buick introduced the Buick Regal Grand National, Regal T-Type, and the limited-production Buick GNX. During the 1990s, while the four-door sedan superseded the two-door coupe entirely, forced-induction engines made their return, with superchargers replacing turbochargers.
For 1999, the Buick Regal inaugurated the sale of GM vehicles in the Chinese market, with the 1997 design lasting through 2008. Following the 2004 model year, Buick retired the nameplate in North America, with the Regal replaced by the Buick LaCrosse.
For 2008, Opel introduced the Opel Insignia as its largest sedan, with Buick rebranding the model line as the Regal for the Chinese market. For 2011, GM reintroduced the Regal to North America, rebranding the Insignia sedan for North America. For 2018, Buick introduced the second-generation Opel Insignia, sourcing all production from Germany; alongside a first-ever liftback sedan, the Regal TourX was the first Buick station wagon in 22 years.
After 2020, as the division shifted away from car model lines, Buick ended sales of the Regal in North America.

Common 1994 Buick Regal problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 1994 Buick Regal, several common problems have been reported:
- Ignition Key Stuck Due to Failed Shifter: Some Buick Regal models, particularly those made from 1994 to 2016, have had issues with the ignition key getting stuck in the ignition. This problem arises when the automatic transmission fails or the wire that relays information about the gear position is faulty. Owners have reported that restarting the vehicle or manipulating the gears can temporarily resolve this issue.
- Stalling Due to Mass Air Flow or Crankshaft Position Sensor Failure: Models from 1994 to 2004 have been known to experience stalling and stuttering issues while driving at various speeds. This can be dangerous, especially at highway speeds. The problem is often linked to a malfunctioning mass air flow sensor (MAF) or crankshaft position sensor (CPS). Replacing these faulty sensors is the recommended solution.
- Power Window Switches: Owners of Buick Regal models produced from 1990 to 2011 have reported problems with the power windows suddenly stopping working. This issue is typically caused by a faulty switch. While the problem may come and go, replacing the power window switches is a more affordable solution compared to replacing the power window motor or regulator.
These common problems with the 1994 Buick Regal highlight issues related to key functionality like ignition, engine sensors, and power systems. Addressing these problems promptly can help maintain the performance and reliability of the vehicle.

Hello! I have a 4dr with a sunroof. I've had mine since 03/2004 and it's a very nice and dependable car. It's also fast, although I've gotten several speeding tickets. I've had some major work done throughout the years, but the engine and transmission have never given me any problems yet! I'm still holding on strong. My car dealer is surprised I still have it, haha. They want me to get another kind from them, but I'm happy with my car.
-
You have a very nice and reliable car! It has good performance and is very fun to drive. The 8 speaker sound system with graphic equalizer is a nice feature. Even at 105,000 miles, the engine and transmission still run smoothly. The seating is comfortable, even in the back seats. You haven't had any major problems with the car, and surprisingly, it has good fuel economy despite having a big V6 engine.
-
This car was my most favorite of all my cars. I had a car before that died after only two weeks of use. The Buick has performed well, reaching speeds of up to 110 mph (that's as far as the speedometer goes). There's plenty of room for all kinds of people; I've comfortably fit six people in my Regal with room to spare.
-
I currently own many cars including Ford, Chrysler, Chevy, but the Buick GS is my daily driver and I absolutely love it. Although I don't agree with many of the owners in terms of performance (170hp? Are you kidding?), it can still get out of its way. GM addressed this issue with the 3800 series 2. The interior is nicely laid out with the console and gauges. The transmission is silky smooth, and the reliability approaches the likes of Honda or Toyota. In my opinion, the '93 Buick was clearly one of the best cars of the dismal 90s.
-
Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I am the first and only owner of this car. I bought it back in late '93 and the only problem with it was that around 60,000 miles 4 spark plugs were shot, but it was by no means anything serious. I have taken very good care of it and there is only one rust spot about the size of a quarter.

This car is equipped with a 3.1-Liter V-6 engine that provides enough power to briefly chirp the front tires under hard acceleration. However, the highway passing response may feel sluggish. The automatic transmission is blissfully smooth. The 4-wheel-disc brakes, although they seem no better than a disc/drum setup, still provide adequate stopping power. The dash design is unique, with tiny gauges spread nearly halfway across the cabin. The fake wood accents may not be to everyone's taste. At lower speeds, the car is quiet, but highway noise can be excessive. The ride is supple, but it may float and wallow too much for a modern car.
