2009 Ford Mustang problems
The Ford Mustang is a series of American automobiles manufactured by Ford. In continuous production since 1964, the Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate. Currently in its seventh generation, it is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate. The namesake of the "pony car" automobile segment, the Mustang was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines, initially distinguished by "long hood, short deck" proportions.
Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 (16 days after the Plymouth Barracuda), over 400,000 units were sold in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch. In August 2018, Ford produced the 10-millionth Mustang; matching the first 1965 Mustang, the vehicle was a 2019 Wimbledon White convertible with a V8 engine.
The success of the Mustang launch led to multiple competitors from other American manufacturers, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (1967), AMC Javelin (1968), and Dodge Challenger (1970). It also competed with the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched around the same time. The Mustang also had an effect on designs of coupes worldwide, leading to the marketing of the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri in the United States (the latter, by Lincoln-Mercury). The Mercury Cougar was launched in 1967 as a unique-bodied higher-trim alternative to the Mustang; during the 1970s, it included more features and was marketed as a personal luxury car.
From 1965 until 2004, the Mustang shared chassis commonality with other Ford model lines, staying rear-wheel-drive throughout its production. From 1965 to 1973, the Mustang was derived from the 1960 Ford Falcon compact. From 1974 until 1978, the Mustang (denoted Mustang II) was a longer-wheelbase version of the Ford Pinto. From 1979 until 2004, the Mustang shared its Fox platform chassis with 14 other Ford vehicles (becoming the final one to use the Fox architecture). Since 2005, Ford has produced two generations of the Mustang, each using a distinct platform unique to the model line.
Through its production, multiple nameplates have been associated with the Ford Mustang series, including GT, Mach 1, Boss 302/429, Cobra (separate from Shelby Cobra), and Bullitt, along with "5.0" fender badging (denoting 4.9 L OHV or 5.0 L DOHC V8 engines).

Common 2009 Ford Mustang problems
The 2009 Ford Mustang is known to have several common problems, primarily related to the body, paint, transmission, and engine.
- Transmission Problems: The 5th generation Ford Mustang, including the 2009 model, has a sealed transmission that is not meant to be serviced unless there are problems. One common issue is a hard shift when accelerating or braking, which can be caused by a leaking transmission.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-01
- VIN: 1ZVHT89S895
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: The clutch/flywheel/ and or other components of the drive train/engine/transmission connection are faulty and are known to fail for the 2007-2009 Shelby Ford Mustang GT 500 as documented in the numerous Ford Technical Service Bullitens (TSB). This vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Late this summer (2023), I was driving this vehicle with my kids in the car and attempting to merge on the entry ramp for the expressway. I experienced a sudden loss of acceleration and the RPMs immediately "redlined". I had to pull over to the shoulder of the expressway so I would not be rear-ended. I researched this issue and found hundreds of posts on Mustang forums documenting this known issue and the TSB issued by Ford. I have reached out to Ford directly and had my vehicle inspected at a Ford Dealership. The Ford Dealership indicated the issues were consistent with the known defective parts. There were zero warnings either by warning lights or symptoms and I am just fortunate to have been in an accident with my children. I only have approximately 27,000 miles on this vehicle and it is not modified in any way. I have the dealership documentation as well that I can email at a later date. I unfortunately do not have it in electronic format at this time.

I can see that you are a true Mustang enthusiast! It's great to hear that you were able to upgrade to the 45th anniversary 2009 GT and that you are so proud of it. The retro style of the 2009 model is definitely a standout feature and it's clear that you appreciate it more than the newer 2010 model. It's wonderful to hear that you find the car so fun to drive and that it provides such an addictive torque. It's clear that you have a real passion for this car and I'm sure it brings you a lot of joy. Thank you for sharing your experience with me!

This is my 3rd Ford Mustang and my 4th Ford car overall. I absolutely love this new Vista Blue Pony Premium car with AT. The retro exterior styling is fantastic and reminds me of the brand's peak in the 1960s. The V6 has great power at 210 HP, which is equal to the V8, 289ci I once owned. The interior plastics and finish are much improved from 1990s Ford cars. I am particularly impressed with the new Shaker 500 stereo system - it really rocks! I have already driven 2,000 miles in this car and I am still loving it! For any Ford fan, this new C5 generation is the one to own - it combines all the good looks of the older Mustang with a modern 5 Speed AT!

I've owned three Mustangs so far because I love the mean looks and V8 performance on a budget, as well as the reliability on the long term. I'm not a fan of imports and small engines. My first car was a 92 Mustang GT hatchback, which I still love to this day. I've also owned a 96 GT with bolt-ons, which was a thrill to drive. In 2014, I found this beauty online - an 09 GT CS in white with a Shelby black hood, deleted stripes, and clean looks. The car had about 63K miles on it, and when I went for a test drive, I fell in love with it. So far, after 5 years of ownership, nothing has gone wrong with the car, except for the widely known door panel issue where they just peel off. No matter what glue I use to bond them, they still detach. That's the only downside I've had with the car. Other than that, I wish I had the dashboard materials available on 2010+ models. The car is still a thrill to drive by today's standards. It's fast enough for me, and even with the 3 link solid axle, it handles as well as any other sports car, despite its size. I've been thinking of trading it for a superior coyote Mustang, but I don't think I need more power for now, and I love the way these 05-09 Mustangs look. I've put over 20k miles on this car, so I don't want to start payments again on another car. I'll keep it for as long as it keeps putting smiles per gallon each time I floor the gas.

I absolutely adore the look of this car! As a long-time fan, I finally purchased my first pony this year and it has been a dream come true. The exterior is simply awesome and the V6 engine is especially peppy, being a 4.0. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient, I do average in the mid-20s on the highway. The interior, while not perfect, is still quite nice. The glovebox is a bit small (my old Dodge Neon had a larger and more functional one) and the center console is somewhat impractical, but overall, it's more of a sportscar than anything else, so there's really nothing to nitpick about. I do wish they had used less cheap plastic, but that's a minor issue. All in all, I would definitely purchase it again and I absolutely love it!

I purchased this car in the summer of 2009, and so far, it has only 4500 miles. The handling and performance have been exceptional and very exciting, putting you in the driving mood. I must admit that I will have to change the suspension and try limiting the hood vibration somewhat. Overall, with a few touches here and there, such as some deep dish rims, this car should be great.

This is a sporty car, not a sports-car, which means it is fast but not as fast as a Porsche, Corvette, or Viper. I really appreciate the price, the look, the engine & exhaust sound, 6xMP3 player w/ 500 watts stereo, navi, and comfy seats. Although the interior looks and feels cheap, the leather seats are a nice touch. However, the seat belt is a bit tight. As for reliability, I cannot comment yet.

I recently picked up my brand new 2009 GT with Bullit & Nav option and I'm still in the process of breaking it in. It's a fun car that I use as my daily driver. While it may not be the fastest car out there (my weekend car is a 2005 Porsche Turbo S), it's still quick enough to pass the majority of cars on the road, which was important to me. The interior may not be the most luxurious (lots of plastic), but the leather seats are a nice touch. The car has a good sized trunk and a nice exhaust sound. While it may feel a bit big for a 2+2 seater, the appealing price (Internet price $3k down MSRP + $3.5k Ford incentive) more than makes up for it. The stereo (Shaker 500) is also great, with enough bass power to make the windows rattle. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at the dealership.

The engine is fun and the interior is comfortable. However, there are some concerns with the build quality such as mis-fitted/mis-aligned body panels, convertible top issues, and windows that are not aligned with each other. It is also uncertain how reliable the car will be in the long-term, especially considering the use of cheap parts. Overall, it is a modestly-priced convertible that may not have the same level of solid build quality as a Honda or Lexus. Please keep these cautions in mind before making a purchase.

Congratulations on your new 427R Roush! It's a beautiful car that certainly packs a punch. However, it's important to keep in mind that all cars require maintenance and care to keep them running smoothly. It's great that you've owned a variety of cars from different manufacturers, including Honda, Toyota, and Subaru. It's always good to try new things and explore different options. While the Roush may have been assembled in Mexico and Canada, it's still a great example of American engineering and design. Thank you for sharing your experience and we hope you continue to enjoy your new car!
