The Ford Mustang is a series of American automobiles manufactured by Ford. In continuous production since 1964, the Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate. Currently in its seventh generation, it is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate. The namesake of the "pony car" automobile segment, the Mustang was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines, initially distinguished by "long hood, short deck" proportions.

Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 (16 days after the Plymouth Barracuda), over 400,000 units were sold in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch. In August 2018, Ford produced the 10-millionth Mustang; matching the first 1965 Mustang, the vehicle was a 2019 Wimbledon White convertible with a V8 engine.

The success of the Mustang launch led to multiple competitors from other American manufacturers, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (1967), AMC Javelin (1968), and Dodge Challenger (1970). It also competed with the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched around the same time. The Mustang also had an effect on designs of coupes worldwide, leading to the marketing of the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri in the United States (the latter, by Lincoln-Mercury). The Mercury Cougar was launched in 1967 as a unique-bodied higher-trim alternative to the Mustang; during the 1970s, it included more features and was marketed as a personal luxury car.

From 1965 until 2004, the Mustang shared chassis commonality with other Ford model lines, staying rear-wheel-drive throughout its production. From 1965 to 1973, the Mustang was derived from the 1960 Ford Falcon compact. From 1974 until 1978, the Mustang (denoted Mustang II) was a longer-wheelbase version of the Ford Pinto. From 1979 until 2004, the Mustang shared its Fox platform chassis with 14 other Ford vehicles (becoming the final one to use the Fox architecture). Since 2005, Ford has produced two generations of the Mustang, each using a distinct platform unique to the model line.

Through its production, multiple nameplates have been associated with the Ford Mustang series, including GT, Mach 1, Boss 302/429, Cobra (separate from Shelby Cobra), and Bullitt, along with "5.0" fender badging (denoting 4.9 L OHV or 5.0 L DOHC V8 engines).

STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM

  • VIN: 1ZVBP8AM1D5
  • Components: STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE
  • Summary: My son was driving and noticed a stiffness in the steering along with an occasional intermittent “ clicking” felt while turning the wheel. While going around a sharp curve the power steering failed completely and locked the steering wheel hard left forcefully. He was able to get it off the road safely and I was following him in another vehicle so I drove it the rest of the way home with no power steering. Online I found that numerous other ford owners over all models 2010-2015 have experienced the same epas failure due to a design flaw. https://youtu.be/szHMXwcp9fo This you tube video is what lead me here. Not only is the video informative of the problem, but in the comments countless others have experienced the same nightmare experience. We have parked the car as the repair can cost $3000, but worse than that if replaced under warranty the new parts fail again within 6 months and are not covered by Ford.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-09-05
  • VIN: 1ZVBP8AMXD5
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: I have a 2013 Ford Mustang V6 coupe with Automatic transmission. I purchased the car Certified Pre Owned through Ken Grody Ford in Carlsbad, CA with Less then ~11,000 miles on it in 2/2014. I have been complaining of a jerk/ knock at ~ 1-1.6 RPM’s when idling & driving in stop and go traffic/ off ramps/ on ramps and parking lots - it appears to come from the transmission area. Fast forward to complaining over the years during service intervals ~ 2x a year for for the works service - oil/ lube/ etc , dealer did a Transmission Control Module computer reset & advised to monitor for symptoms in 11/2020. As covid was present, the car wasn’t driven much during. However the knock/ jerk between 1-1.6 RPM’s has always been present, even returning after the TCM reset. Dealership was notified, and neglected to return calls or follow up. Fast forward to 9/15/2022, after 3-4 wks of calling and leaving voicemails to no avail from the dealership service department manager/ dealership. I set up an appointment for 9/15/2022. On 9/5 & night of 9/14/22, the car instrument cluster lighted up with all notifications, and dashes for the total mileage on the car, orange wrench light - indicating Ford Limp mode, and low fuel popup (car was just fuels 1 hr prior to driving from Costco for grocery) I left and drove up a hill when this occurred as I was going 40-45 miles per hour the speedometer dropped to 0 MPH & the car barely drove beyond 5-15 MPH. I pulled over at the nearest local street from The hill parked the car and powered off the engine. I had a OBDII Tool that indicates: Global OBD FORD. P0720(1 / 1) Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit. Severity 2 of 3. I finally heard back from dealer after calling & escalating between 9/15-9/19, once I got ahold of the customer relations managers assistant she said the service manager/ customer relations manager would call back by today 9/20/22. The service mgr states I am out of WTTY & need to cover cost of repair myself. TSB for trans. is attac

The work was performed(copies attached) and there has been no recurrence of the problem. The same problem that was in the recall for 2011-2012 Mustangs! "Randomly while driving there is the engine revs up but car does not go any faster, no response from the throttle, no power. It slams down into lower gear, at one time the rear wheels screeched. My wife was driving this time, we were in traffic and was almost rear ended. She will no longer drive the car. Sometimes the wrench light would come on when it was slamming into a different gear then go away after shutting the engine off. I had someone check for codes but none were found... more..."

Negative 2013 Ford Mustang car reviews

The 2013 Mustang was not up to my expectations. It had some issues with noise in the dash and the rear back up sensing unit was not functioning properly. Additionally, the gas mileage was not great, only around 16-17 mpg on the highway. Despite these setbacks, the car had a fair amount of power. This was my fourth Mustang purchase, but unfortunately, I will not be buying another one.

The bubbling on the front of the hood of my 2013 Mustang is a common issue that several owners have experienced. Despite the fact that the corrosion occurred while the car was under warranty, Ford has refused to cover the repair costs as my car is now out of warranty. However, after conducting research, it is clear that this is a Ford problem and not a result of poor maintenance or driving conditions. It is advisable to avoid purchasing a Mustang with an aluminum hood to avoid incurring the approximately 2k repair cost. It is unfortunate that Ford has not taken ownership of this issue, but I am confident that with the right approach, a solution can be found.

Positive 2013 Ford Mustang car reviews

I bought the 2011 v6 Mustang coupe and was very happy with it due to the many refinements. However, I wanted a convertible and had bought the base model. The 2013 model had enough refinements in looks, performance, and features that convinced me to trade in my 2011. This is my first time owning a convertible, and it has been a new and exciting experience for me. I believe that everyone should own a convertible at least once in their life! I opted for the premium auto with pony package, all leather, and sync. The drive is much better than the 2011, and the looks are more masculine on the 2013 than the 2011. Even with the V6, there is enough power to do what you want!

  2. Lee Hayes 2025-01-02

I really enjoyed the performance, looks, and quality of this car. The interior components are well-made and fit perfectly, which is a great improvement from the Fords of the past. The controls are easy to use and the car is both fast and nimble, making it a joy to drive. I also appreciate the aggressive look of the car, which is much better than the 2015 models.

  3. Kolby Towne 2024-11-02

I've been driving my Mustang for over a year now and it's been a fantastic experience. The car is mechanically flawless and everything works perfectly. I absolutely love it! It's got the looks, power, handling, and reliability that I need in a daily driver. Even during the winter, I just put on some winter tires and keep on driving. With more than enough power, I get a combined mpg of 25, and if I set the cruise control at 60MPH, I can get up to 30 mpg. Plus, it takes regular gas, which is a huge plus. If you're looking for a reliable car that won't break the bank, I highly recommend this one. With 95000 miles on the clock, I've only had to do minimal maintenance, which is very affordable. The only big problem I had was the water pump going bad, but all I did was pull over, restart the engine, and it went back to normal. The next day, I replaced the pump and thermostat for $400 parts & labor. Overall, this car is an absolute pleasure to drive!

  4. Shaun Bode 2024-10-27

The V6 motor is really lively, especially when paired with the 6-speed manual. You'll love the great gas mileage, especially on the road - sometimes as high as 32mpg!

  5. Jeremie Leffler 2024-10-25

This car was amazing to me! I bought it used in 2016 and ran the wheels off it. It had very few issues!! I sold it at 177,000 miles, and it was still in good shape. I even drove it year-round, even in Ohio's winters lol. I loved my Mustang. It was very reliable and had a decent amount of power for a V6.
