2019 Ford Fusion problems

ford logo

The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. From the 2006 through 2020 model years, two generations of the Fusion have been produced in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. The Fusion was manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico, alongside the Lincoln MKZ, and formerly the Mercury Milan, both of which share its CD3 platform.

Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.

The second generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia as Ford Mondeo began in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name was used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. In 2019, the Fusion was the seventh-best selling car in the United States.

Common 2019 Ford Fusion problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2019 Ford Fusion, several common problems have been reported:

  1. Power Steering Failure:
    • Power steering failure is a significant issue reported by owners of the 2019 Ford Fusion. This problem can occur suddenly, leading to difficulties in steering, especially at high speeds. The loss of power steering poses a safety risk and can result in accidents. Ford issued recalls for certain models to address this issue, particularly focusing on the 2011-2012 models without a 3.5L engine and 2013-2016 models affected by electronic power steering failures due to contaminants like road salt.
  2. Engine Misfires, Rough Idling, and Leaking Coolants:
    • Many drivers of the Fusion, especially models from 2013-2019, have reported engine misfires, rough idling, and coolant leaks. These issues can indicate a blown head gasket, which, if left unaddressed, can lead to engine failure. Models with the 1.5L and 2.0L EcoBoost engines are particularly prone to this problem. Early detection is crucial to prevent costly repairs or engine replacements.
  3. Throttle Body Failure:
    • Owners of Ford Fusion models from 2010 to 2016 have experienced stalling, jerking, and hesitation while driving, primarily due to faulty throttle bodies. The throttle body regulates air intake to the engine, and when it malfunctions, it can lead to power loss and acceleration issues. Replacing the throttle body can cost up to $1,000, and prompt attention is necessary to avoid further damage.
  4. Service Brake Problems:
    • Ford Fusion models from 2006 to 2012 have been plagued by braking issues, including the need for extra pressure to stop, delayed braking response, and in severe cases, brake failure while driving. These problems can be dangerous and increase the risk of accidents. Ford issued recalls for affected models to address faults in the ABS Hydraulic Control Unit and master cylinder, with repair costs reaching up to $800.

These common problems reported by owners of the 2019 Ford Fusion highlight the importance of regular maintenance, prompt attention to warning signs, and awareness of potential issues to ensure the longevity and safety of the vehicle.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-04
  • VIN: 3FA6P0K97KR
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: This vehicle has a known issue by Ford. In Ford TSB 22-2229 it acknowledges "P0300, P0301-P0304,P0316, P0217, P1285 and/or P1299 stored in powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the long block engine assembly." When explained, it states that this issue could cause reduced engine power which obviously be a very dangerous situation if the vehicle is traveling at highway/interstate speeds. The replacement of the long block engine assembly is a complete engine replacement that Ford is not assuming responsiblity for either from a safety or cost standpoint. We are regularly receiving these diagnostic codes now and a recent diagnosis from a Ford dealership confirmed the need for a long block engine assembly replacement which is extremely costly and right now is cost prohibitive, especially for a vehicle that is only 5 years old and has less than 100,000 miles on it.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-06-16
  • VIN: 3FA6P0SU0KR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: This is my 2nd complaint on the non action to repair this recall. Ford's latest attempt to NOT repair the electrical defect is to buy my car. Their offer does meet the cost of buying a replacement car. Is Ford so inept that they cannot repair their own products? The offer to buy the car sends a red flag up. Is Ford's "solution" to buy my car an attempt to acquire cars to resell at a profit? If Ford cannot repair a defect that was diagnosed a long time ago, should they be allowed to continue to manufacture and sell cars in the United States? Has Ford been sanctioned in any way for this defect?

ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-19
  • VIN: 3FA6P0HD8KR
  • Components: ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: Upon traveling we noticed a loud engine knocking when the car was at idle. We immediately pulled over and checked the engine. The coolant level was lower than normal and the engine oil level was fine. We immediately returned home and parked the car. While returning home the front camera continued to display an error message that it was not working and would repeat every 30 seconds. After doing research I read that Ford has known about the Fusion Ecoboost having a design flaw where coolant leaks into the cylinder heads and can crack the head as well as a flexplate crack that appears. They issued a "fix" for the flexplate to some models and I would like this applied to my car as I feel they knowingly continued to sell this model with the issues without prior warnings or notices.

Negative 2019 Ford Fusion car reviews

  1. Cyrus Torphy 2024-08-17

This car seems to have a lower mpg than any 4 cyl I've ever had, and even some 6 cyl I've owned. Have you noticed the same thing?

  2. Mac Hegmann 2024-01-28

This car is supposed to be great, but unfortunately it can't alert or detect when the keys are inside, which can be frustrating. Personally, I prefer Nissan because they are affordable, have great quality, and most importantly, they detect and alert me when I forget my keys inside the car.

Positive 2019 Ford Fusion car reviews

  1. Victor Bauch 2024-11-15

I have the 2.5 4 banger and it's absolutely wonderful. On the open road, it's incredibly smooth and enjoyable to drive. One of the best features is the gas mileage. I drive at a constant speed of 60 miles per hour and average an impressive 37 mpg. The Fusion is a stunning sedan and I receive many compliments on its appearance, especially with the metallic granite exterior. The Synch system works amazingly well, allowing me to play music from a USB drive so I don't even need the CD player. The trunk is spacious and overall, this vehicle is one of the best I've ever had. And trust me, I've had over 70 brand new vehicles in my life. The warning LEDs on the dash work very well, alerting me if someone is pulling off the road slowly and I'm approaching them closely, or if vehicles are approaching from behind or the side. If I drive at 70 MPH constantly, the mpg falls to 35 mpg. Overall, this is a fantastic sedan.

  2. Jaeden Bahringer 2024-11-13

I got mine with the base 2.5 L 175 horse engine. I'm happy to report that I get 27 miles per gallon City and over 30 Highway. The car is very comfortable, at least for me. I replaced the base 16in wheels and tires with 17in Michelin all climate tires. I'm pleased to say that coming up on 30,000 miles, I haven't had any mechanical issues so far.

  3. Murphy Greenfelder 2024-11-05

I'm an old man and I wanted a car with all the modern safety features available to help me in my old age. Fortunately, this car has all the features I need to feel safe and secure on the road. The car is also incredibly comfortable and rides smoothly, making every journey a pleasure.

  4. Helmer Leffler 2024-08-06

I've been driving my Ford Fusion for just over 8 months now and I have to say, I absolutely love it! As my first ever Ford vehicle, I was pleasantly surprised by all the amazing features it comes with, especially considering its affordable price. The safety features are top-notch and I really appreciate the convenience of the Ford Pass app, which allows me to program my daily car start-ups and automatically adjust the climate control. The heated seats and defrost are also a godsend on cold mornings. The build quality and materials are impressive for this type of car and I'm getting an average of 29 mpg on my daily commute, which is about 70% highway driving. Needless to say, I'm already looking forward to my next Ford purchase!

  5. Rylan Welch 2024-08-05

My new Fusion is my 3rd in the past 6 years. I bought my new one when I found out that this will be the last year. I'm a bit sad that FORD would quit producing such a winner. I love everything about this model!
