Ford Fusion 2015 problems
The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. From the 2006 through 2020 model years, two generations of the Fusion have been produced in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. The Fusion was manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico, alongside the Lincoln MKZ, and formerly the Mercury Milan, both of which share its CD3 platform.
Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.
The second generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia as Ford Mondeo began in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name was used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. In 2019, the Fusion was the seventh-best selling car in the United States.

Common Ford Fusion 2015 problems
The 2015 Ford Fusion has been subject to numerous complaints regarding engine failure due to cracked blocks and antifreeze leaks. This issue has been reported by 193 out of 698 total complaints, with drivers noticing their engines overheating and losing power completely. Upon inspection, mechanics often find that the engine block is cracked, allowing antifreeze to leak into the engine cylinder. This problem has not been addressed by any recalls or investigations, leaving many drivers with the responsibility of replacing the engine at their own expense, especially now that the vehicle is no longer under warranty.
Four recalls have been issued for rollaway-related issues in the 2015 Fusion. The first recall, in late 2014, involved over 50,000 units with potential rollaway due to the key being removable from the ignition without the vehicle being in park. Three more recalls followed in 2018, 2019, and 2022 for rollaway resulting from a detached shift cable. This issue poses a significant safety risk, as drivers may mistakenly believe the car is in park when it is not, potentially leading to accidents or injuries.
Steering complaints remain a major concern for the 2015 Ford Fusion, despite three recalls addressing the problem. Out of 698 total complaints, 113 are related to issues in the powertrain, with many drivers reporting steering problems. This issue has not been fully resolved, leaving drivers at risk of experiencing steering difficulties, which can be dangerous, especially at high speeds or in heavy traffic.
In addition to these major issues, the 2015 Ford Fusion has also experienced problems with seat belts, axle assemblies, and cooling systems.
The 2015 Ford Fusion also has a history of exhaust and transmission problems, with owner comments describing issues such as muffler and catalytic converter leaks, ABS module failures, and transmission shifting issues. These problems can lead to decreased performance, increased repair costs, and potential safety risks for drivers.
In summary, the 2015 Ford Fusion has faced numerous complaints and recalls regarding engine failure, rollaway, steering problems, and other issues. While the car has its merits, potential buyers should be aware of these concerns and weigh them against the vehicle's positive aspects before making a purchasing decision.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-02
- VIN: 3FA6P0H75FR
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Got an "Steering Assist Fault" indication on my dash and I can no longer turn my steering wheel. This is a well documented recall with older models but mine was not included in the recall. I've taken it to the local dealer and been told it will require replacement of the entire assembly. Older online reports said this was a $2,200 repair. I was just quoted $2,900 by the dealer. This is outrageous. Ford should not be allowed to get away with this. They positioned the electric steering motor (with enclosed electronics) next to the exhaust manifold. The electronics can't handle the heat being so close even with the stupid heat shield between the two. The recall should be extended to all Ford vehicles that use this technology.

Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.
- Consequence: If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. If any of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. - Consequence: If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing, free of charge. The recall began September 10, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.

- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Lincoln MKZ and Ford Fusion vehicles. The steering wheel retaining bolt may loosen allowing the steering wheel to detach while driving.
- Consequence: A steering wheel detachment can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering wheel bolt with a longer bolt, free of charge. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 18S08.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: SEAT BELTS:FRONT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured November 2, 2012, to July 31, 2014, and 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 14, 2012, to July 31, 2014. In the event of a crash, heat from the deployment of a seat belt pretensioner may cause a front seat belt anchor cable to fail.
- Consequence: If the driver or front passenger seatbelt cables cannot properly restrain the front seat occupants, they would be at an increased risk of injury.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will apply a protective coating to the seat belt cable, free of charge. The recall began May 16, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S42.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured February 3, 2012, to March 20, 2015, and 2015 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured February 26, 2015, to February 28, 2015, and originally sold, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. In the affected vehicles, snow or water containing road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.
- Consequence: If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist. Loss of power steering assist would require a higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, which may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will apply sealer and replace the steering gear motor bolts as required. If one or more of the steering gear motor attachment bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 24, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S14.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)

In the affected vehicles, the key may be able to be removed even while the transmission is not in Park. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
- Consequence: If the key can be removed despite that the transmission is not in Park, a driver may think the vehicle is safety parked, when it is not, increasing the risk of a vehicle rollaway that could cause the vehicle to strike and injure the driver, other vehicle occupants, or bystanders.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles, free of charge. The recall began on December 15, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14C11.

I purchased my Fusion approximately two months ago and unfortunately, I am dissatisfied with its performance. My biggest concern is the gas mileage, which was advertised as 26 city and 35 highway on the sticker. However, I am only getting around 21.9 mpg in city driving and about 28 mpg on the highway. Despite discussing this issue with the dealer, I have yet to receive any satisfactory answers. As a result, I am disappointed with the car's performance given the price I paid.

This car sounds like a great ride! With 140,000 miles on the odometer, it's impressive that it still runs so well. It's clear that you take good care of it by changing the oil every 3500 miles and keeping it clean. Plus, it's great to hear that you're getting such good gas mileage. And of course, it's always a bonus when your car gets compliments on its good styling. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

I purchased this pre-owned certified car from the dealer at a reasonable price. Despite having 36,000 miles, it is in excellent condition, and I opted for an extended warranty just in case. Although there is an annoying ticking sound that only occurs while driving, I am confident that it can be resolved. The entertainment controls are a bit cumbersome, and there are multiple ways to change the temperature or radio channel, but I prefer simplicity over trendiness.

This is the best Sedan I've ever driven. It has instant response when you hit the gas. I like that it has disc brakes on all 4 wheels. Ford's went above and beyond in design in power and handling of the Fusion.😊

You have a great looking car! The ride is decent for a small car, and it's highly dependable. We only had 2 warranty issues, both with the outside mirrors delaminating, but the dealer took care of them quickly. The 2.5 engine is more than enough for most drivers, but it's not a hot rod. We got 24-26mpgs in town driving and 38-44 on the highway, and we found that 65mph is the best speed for gas mileage. The brakes were great, but there was more road noise than we expected. On course asphalt, it was hard to hold a conversation, which is no longer acceptable for a modern car. The trunk space and back seat area are limited, so it's not a crowd hauler or family car. For commuting to work, it did the job, but after sitting in traffic for an hour, my wife found it hard to get out of due to the seats and cab forward design. While it's not exactly a luxury car, it's definitely a step up from a Focus, which was her previous car.

After only 3 months of ownership, the plastic behind the door handle popped out and won't go back in. Additionally, the Bluetooth quality is poor and people on the other line say it sounds like I'm in a wind tunnel. The brakes are overly responsive and touchy, which I didn't expect. I previously drove a Malibu and it felt like luxury compared to this car. However, I understand that my family is a Ford family and they recommended the Fusion to me. If you haven't driven a Malibu yet, I highly recommend it. Thank you for considering my experience.

The vehicle has presented several issues since its purchase, such as false claims about fuel economy and wheel cupping on the rear tires before reaching 20,000 miles. The design of the car is not suitable for driving on gravel roads, as dust easily enters through the doors. Despite Ford's refusal to acknowledge the design flaw, I am confident that I will be able to address any health issues that may arise from breathing in dust. It is not recommended to purchase this vehicle if you frequently drive on gravel roads. I am looking forward to trading this car in after three years of ownership.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2015 Ford Fusion. Overall, it's been a great car with only a few minor issues. However, I did notice this week that there are a couple of spots on the hood where the paint is bubbling. I did some research and it seems like this is a common issue that many others have experienced as well. It's disappointing that neither the dealer nor Ford are willing to take responsibility for this issue. As a first-time Ford owner, I was hoping for better customer service. I do hope that Ford will acknowledge this defect and take steps to address it. Thank you for listening to my experience.

The car experiences a significant loss of value within a year and has some issues with shifting, particularly from 2nd-3rd gear and when braking downhill. Although this does not happen all the time, it can be concerning. During my test drive, I did not experience this issue, and if I had, I would not have made the purchase. I took the car to the dealer, and they informed me that this is a common issue with this transmission and provided me with an internal service bulletin. I believe that if there are so many complaints about a problem that an ISB is created, the manufacturer should reconsider their definition of 'normal behavior.' The interior materials, especially the doors, feel cheap and lack attention to detail. The doors do not seal well, leading to dust and dirt accumulation, and they freeze shut in the winter. Despite these issues, the car rides smoothly and quietly, making it aesthetically pleasing. However, I am reluctantly considering trading it in due to its functional limitations.
