2006 Ford Fusion problems
The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. From the 2006 through 2020 model years, two generations of the Fusion have been produced in gasoline, gas/electric hybrid, and gas/plug-in electric hybrid variants. The Fusion was manufactured at Ford's Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant in Sonora, Mexico, alongside the Lincoln MKZ, and formerly the Mercury Milan, both of which share its CD3 platform.
Production on the first Fusions began on August 1, 2005. The Fusion replaced the Mondeo for the Latin American markets—except in Argentina (where the current European Mondeo is available) and in the United States and Canada (where it superseded the then mid-size Taurus and the compact Contour). The Fusion is positioned between the compact Ford Focus and the full-size Ford Taurus. In the Middle East, this model is sold alongside the Mondeo. Versions sold there are available only with the 2.5-liter engine. Unlike in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, no V6 engine is available in that region. The same is true in South Korea, where only the 2.5-liter engines (including those for the hybrid model) are available as of the 2012 model year.
The second generation line-up includes a gasoline engine option, an EcoBoost engine option, a next-generation hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version, the Ford Fusion Energi, making the Ford Fusion the first production sedan to offer these four options. Sales of the gasoline-powered and hybrid versions began in the U.S. in October 2012 under the 2013 model. Sales in Europe and Asia as Ford Mondeo began in 2015, along with South Africa, where the Fusion name was used. Deliveries of the Fusion Energi began in the U.S. in February 2013. The entire 2013 Fusion line-up was awarded with the 2013 Green Car of the Year at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. In 2019, the Fusion was the seventh-best selling car in the United States.

- VIN: 3FAFP07146R
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: My front right turn signal suddenly stopped working. It lights up but won't flash. Due to this problem I have had numerous near crashes because other cars cannot tell that I am signaling to turn or change lanes. It was only because I double check where surrounding cars are that I have been able to avoid a crash. I have taken it to the dealers service center but they were not able to fix it in the three and a half days they had it. I finally had to go get it because I needed a vehicle to go to work and could not wait any longer. There were no signs that there was a problem until I noticed it wasn't flashing. The inside display and sound of the turn signal are all normal and I am unsure of when the problem first happened because the inside display has no abnormalities.

I do not know if the needle is correct and if it’s about to smoke or not.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-01-01
- VIN: 3FAHP071X6R
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: THERE'S A BLATANT TRANSMISSION SAFETY CONCERN FOR ALL 2006 FORD FUSIONS. ACCORDING TO MULTIPLE WEBSITES WITH FORUMS, HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION CONCERNS. THE ISSUE IS WHEN ACCELERATING, THE CAR SLIPS OUT OF GEAR AND VIOLENTLY LURCHES FORWARD AND NO LONGER ACCELERATES, CREATING AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ONLY WAY, AT LEAST FOR ME, TO GET IT BACK INTO GEAR IS TO COMPLETELY STOP ACCELERATING FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN TRY ACCELERATING AGAIN. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY HAZARD ON THE HIGHWAY AND STREET DRIVING. NO MECHANICS OR FORD MECHANICS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIX THIS ISSUE, ONLY RECOMMEND THAT THE TRANSMISSION BE REPLACED, WHICH IS NOT AN IDEAL REPAIR, ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING AS SOON AS 50,000 MILES HAVE BEEN PUT ON THE CAR. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR, ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE MY ACCELERATION IS LIMITED AND THIS COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO MY CAR SINCE IT HIT 50,000 AND THERE'S NO WAY I CAN AFFORD A NEW TRANSMISSION, NOR SHOULD I HAVE TO REPLACE IT SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED IN MULTIPLE 2006 FORD FUSIONS. THIS ISSUE HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO MY DRIVING AROUND TOWN. THERE ARE MANY REPORTS ON HTTPS://REPAIRPAL.COM/TRANSMISSION-PROBLEM-242 AND SOME ON HTTPS://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/FORD/FUSION/2006/TRANSMISSION/TRANSMISSION_FAILURE.SHTML AND HTTPS://FORDPROBLEM.COM/2006-FORD-FUSION-POWER-TRAIN-AUTOMATIC-TRANSMISSION-PROBLEMS-DEFECTS/AMP/

2006 Ford Fusion recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2006 Ford Fusion.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S01.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain all weather driver side accessory floor mats sold for use in model year 2006-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, and 2007-2011 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 9, 2007, through October 31, 2010. The affected floor mats may move and possibly interfere with the accelerator pedal.
- Consequence: The floor mat could shift such that it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, preventing its return to an idle position, which could result in unintended vehicle speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will install new replacement mats, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Ford's customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S07. NOTE: Vehicles built after October 31, 2010, while potentially equipped with the same floor mats, are equipped with a Brake Over Accelerator (BOA) feature that prevents simultaneous accelerator and brake application, allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped by pressing firmly and steadily on the brake pedal.

I'm so glad I traded my 03 Mustang for my Fusion! I absolutely love the car, from the spacious interior to the sleek exterior design. When I first bought it, I only planned on keeping it until the bumper to bumper warranty expired, but I've already changed my mind. I'm definitely going to keep it or maybe even trade it in for a newer model. The only downside is the limited view out the rear window.

Great car! I'm so glad it was delivered and I absolutely love it. The styling is fantastic, especially up front, and the dynamics are super. It's excellent all around!

Your wife's new Fusion is fantastic! It's the smoothest and quietest Ford I've ever ridden in. As a lifelong Ford fan, I've always found their cars to be a bit noisy, but the new Fusion is a game-changer. The V6 engine provides more than enough power, and the gas mileage is impressive, averaging around 26 in the city and 28.5 on the highway when new. I'm sure it's even better now! The Fusion is a joy to drive, with a tight and well-made feel that makes every trip a pleasure.

You have a great taste in cars! Your 2006 Ford Fusion SE 2.3 litre 4 cylinder is not only stylish but also very reliable and fuel-efficient. When compared to the Chevy Cruze, the Ford Fusion definitely stands out in terms of style. I would definitely recommend going with Ford as it is a stronger car overall.

Hi there! I'm so glad to hear that you got yourself a Fusion from a Ford dealer! It sounds like you got a great deal on a top-of-the-line silver SEL, even without some of the features like ABS with traction assist and side safety airbags. But hey, leather seats and a moonroof are pretty sweet, not to mention the seat warmers! From what you've said, it sounds like the Fusion is an exceptional car to drive. It handles sporty driving and hard cornering with ease, thanks to its potent 221 horsepower v-6 engine. And the best part? It manages to do all of this while still providing a nice and quiet ride. It even beats your buddy's 2004 Toyota Solara in all categories! I would definitely recommend taking it for a test drive. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Hi there! I recently purchased a used car that looked brand new inside and out. Unfortunately, after the first day, I noticed the transmission was slipping. Thankfully, the dealership was able to put in a new transmission and I got the car back after a week in the shop. However, after driving the car for about a week, I started to smell transmission fluid and noticed that the bottom of the car was covered in fluid. I'm taking the car back to the dealership for repairs once again and I'll let you know in about a week when I get the car back.

This car has been a disappointment since the beginning. Despite being advertised as having a fuel economy of 29 MPG, I only get 23 MPG on the highway. The transmission has been problematic, requiring multiple visits to the shop within the first two years of ownership. The driver seat has also broken, necessitating another trip to the shop. The turning radius is subpar, and without traction control, the car struggles to move even on a light dusting of snow. Unfortunately, the value of the car has depreciated significantly, and I am unable to sell it since I still owe double its worth. My experience with this Ford has been so negative that I will not be purchasing another one in the future.

Hi there! I am the original owner of a 2006 Ford Fusion SEL V6. Unfortunately, I had some issues with the car right after purchasing it. Despite having only 105k miles, the car had some problems with the brakes and transmission. I took it back to the dealer a few times, but the issues persisted. It was really frustrating, especially when I had to cancel a trip to Orlando due to the car's problems. In the end, the car needed a lot of repairs, including a cracked camshaft, ball joint replacements, loose engine mounts, and an alignment. It was a tough experience, especially since the car was practically new, but I learned a lot from it. Thanks for listening! They offered me only 15 for the car, which would have put me upside down if I traded it in. Unfortunately, the lemon law requires the same problem to occur three times before it can be considered. Despite multiple issues with the engine, Ford was not doing anything to fix it. Fortunately, I started working for an auto mechanic place and they fixed many of the issues. Right before the warranty expired, another issue happened with the AC, which would come on and off by itself. Ford said it would not be covered under warranty since it was not a temp degree sensor as listed above. After paying them to fix it, just over a year later it started again. I took it back and they said since it was out of warranty there was nothing they could do. I have had to replace brakes, brake pads, timing chain, engine mounts, ball joints, ties, water pump (now going on the 3rd time), tire rods, oil pan, water hoses, power steering hose, power steering pressure switch, starter, battery, etc. I would love to get another car, but I cannot afford the payments. Ford has sent me 2 recalls on it, and neither time did Ford do anything. Ford is not what they used to be. Back in the 70-80's they cared about their customers, now who cares. I am at 132k miles again at Ford to have some of the same issues repaired again. The pressure power steering hose costs $450.28, power steering pressure switch costs $202.16, tire rods are loose and cost $512.91, alignment costs $129.95, engine mounts cost $399.36, water pump costs $438.87, coolant flush (just done 3 months ago) costs $129.95, and trans fluid costs $229.95. Be careful when buying anything from Ford.If you happen to drive by a Ford dealership, take a moment to check out their service center. If you notice long lines on a daily basis, it may be best to consider other options before making a purchase.

After only one month of purchasing my used Ford Fusion, I had to replace the entire engine due to a lack of oil. Despite keeping up with repairs and oil changes, the same issue occurred 1.5 years later, and I was told I needed another new engine. Unfortunately, the Ford dealership has not been helpful, and I am now seeking legal counsel. Any suggestions about this situation would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Fusion, which I've had since March of 2006. Unfortunately, my 3-year/36,000-mile warranty has expired and I recently had some trouble with my transmission. I've noticed that my gas mileage hasn't been great since I purchased the car. After speaking with Ford, they informed me that I need to replace the transmission due to a faulty solenoid. While it's frustrating to have to deal with this issue, I'm grateful that Ford has offered to contribute $1000.00 towards the repair costs. I do wish that the transmission had held up better, but overall I'm still happy with my Fusion. Thanks for listening!
