UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-05-01
- VIN: 2FMHK6C85KB
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Rear park aid camera failure. The camera does not always display when reverse is selected. The camera only shows an upside down image when it displays. The camera displays severe vertical lines when dark, virtually making the display useless. This is a safety issue because I cannot see persons or objects behind me if the camera is inoperable. If the camera is operable, with the display upside down, it is disorienting to use as a means of protecting persons or objects behind me as well as protecting my vehicle from damage. I have not taken it to the dealer for this issue, as it began after the warranty period expired. The problem has not been inspected by a dealer, independent service center, the manufacturer, police or insurance representatives. The vehicle has not been recalled for this issue. I find this surprising, given the large number of Ford vehicles which have been recalled for rear camera problems. I also find this to be a somewhat common problem with the Ford Flex across multiple model years, based on viewing of various chat boards found on the internet.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER,BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-01
- VIN: 2FMHK6C81KB
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER,BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: The problem was with the backup camera. The problem started when we had about 25,000 miles on the car, I ended up getting the camera replaced at 36,000 miles. The camera worked properly 90 to 95% of the time. Sometimes it would just be fuzzy, sometimes it would be blank and say camera not available, and other times it showed everything upside down. Sometimes the obstacle beeper would work, and when the camera wasn't working the Beeper would not work. We were going on a trip over the recent Christmas holidays out of state and my wife wanted the Peace of Mind of having that camera working. We are both retired, and I took it to a dealer and it cost almost $700 to replace the camera. I told the Ford dealer that I wanted the bad camera, and I do possess it. I have Googled the problem, and I noticed that it is a rampant problem with Ford vehicles but I am convinced that they haven't done a recall on the Flex because they stopped making these vehicles in 2019. I have a 15-year-old Chrysler product with 150,000 miles on it and the backup camera works perfectly. Ford seems to recall all of their new and current vehicles for this identical problem but they have no intention of helping me with the cost. I've called them several times and I have a case number with them but the only response that I have gotten, is that there's no recall so they can't do anything about it. Interestingly, when I made the appointment to get it fixed the service guy said he had to check inventory of the cameras because they go through them so quickly. He got back to me and told me that they had just received six more so I could come in right away and get it taken care of. I had it fixed December 15th at Dean Sellers Ford in Troy Michigan. I have taken pictures of the invoice and the bad part but I can't seem to load them on this form

The Ecoboost is just as fast as a V8 and has plenty of room. It also has lots of sunroofs and the power folding seats come in handy. It's a low ride and easy to get in, plus it has all the latest tech.
-
So glad to hear that you're enjoying driving this car! It sounds like it has plenty of power when you need it.
-
Congratulations on your new (to you) 2019 Flex Limited with 4 wheel drive! It's great to hear that you enjoyed driving your previous 2012 Flex SEL front wheel drive for the last 10 years with no problems and passed it down to your son. The Flex is known for its superb visibility and spacious cargo area when the seats are folded down. It's wonderful to hear that you still love your Flex after driving it from Florida to California and back, as well as from Florida to Minnesota and back. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

I've always been a fan of the square shape of the Flex and its low proximity to the ground, despite what others may say about its looks. I find it really cool. What surprised me was how fun it is to drive. I own an SEL model, not the Ecoboost, but it's really nimble and quick. I've had other motorists lining up beside me at stoplights, thinking they could pass me, only to see me pull away. I've even made a few people mad. My other cars are a Charger SRT and an Escalade (405hp). The Escalade has the same effect. Most cars think Escalades are slow, but they are not. Try to race one, and you'll be quite surprised, and usually embarrassed. The Charger is a no-brainer. Nobody tries it but Mustangs and Teslas. But the Flex?? ....nobody expects anything from it. Neither did I before I test drove it. Besides its quickness, it's just comfortable to sit in, feel, and drive. Even when you're driving at casual speeds scooting around town, it's fun. However, the electronics can be annoying. They seem to come on and off whenever they like. First my headlights and caution lights stopped working, then my interior fan started turning off intermittently, then the rear door hatch kept signaling When I sell or trade it in, I'll probably get another Flex with the Ecoboost AWD. It's a great car! I mean, SUV? Actually, what is it exactly?
-
I rented a Flex a couple of years ago and surprisingly enjoyed it. However, with a kid on the way and a lifted truck, it was time for something else. The Flex feels just as big as the truck did on the interior, but it is way more comfortable.

This car was not a great fit for me. I found it difficult to use some of the features, such as the touch screen and phone connectivity. Additionally, I had trouble understanding the light controls and the armrest broke quickly. The headrests were also uncomfortable for me. However, I understand that everyone has different preferences and experiences with cars, so I encourage you to test drive it yourself and form your own opinion.
