The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV by German automaker BMW. The BMW X6 is the originator of the sports activity coupé (SAC), referencing its sloping rear roof design. It combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (styling featuring a sloping roof). It is built in BMW's North American plant in Greer, South Carolina alongside the BMW X5, whose platform it shares. Prior to the release of the X7, the X6 was considered a flagship SUV for BMW.

The first generation (E71) was released for sale in April 2008 for the 2008 model year, while the second-generation X6 (F16) was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 2014. The third-generation X6 was revealed in July 2019.

Summary: I WAS TRYING TO PASS A CAR ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE POWER TO MY ENGINE WAS CUT BY THE CAR'S COMPUTER. THE CAR FOLLOWING ME ALMOST RAN INTO THE BACK OF ME. THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES OVER 4 MONTHS. IN NUMEROUS WRITTEN LETTERS TO BMW AND TO THE DEALER, THEY RESPONDED BY SAYING IT WAS MY FAULT, BECAUSE I HAD NOT INSTALLED THE "PROPER" TIRES ON THE CAR WHEN THE ORIGINAL ONES WORE OUT. OR COURSE, THEY SOLD AND INSTALLED THE REPLACEMENTS, AND NEVER WARNED ME ABOUT ANYTHING. THE ORIGINAL 20" TIRES, AND THE ONLY "APPROVED" ONES, ARE RUN-FLAT HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES THAT RIDE TERRIBLY, AND ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR WINTER DRIVING. SO I WANTED TO INSTALL ALL-SEASON TIRES - BMW DOESN'T APPROVE ANY ALL-SEASON TIRES FOR THIS CAR- NOT IN THE 20" SIZE REQUIRED. SO I PICKED A MODEL TIRE THAT MICHELIN SALES FOR SUMMER AND WINTER USE, AND THE DEALER OBTAINED THEM INSTALLED THEM - SAYING NOTHING ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT - THE BMW STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM WAS PROGRAMMED FOR ONLY THIS ONE TIRE, AND NOW WITH DIFFERENT TIRES THE COMPUTER THINKS THE CAR IS SLIDING WHEN IT IS NOT, AND CUTS FUEL TO THE ENGINE. THIS HAPPENS IF I TRY TO PASS A CAR ON A CURVE. Summary: I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2008 BMW X6 IN APRIL 08 AND VARIOUS PROBLEMS KEEP RE-OCCURRING WITH IT. THE MAIN PROBLEM NOW IS THE BACK COVERS OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT SEAT KEEP COMING OUT OF PLACE. IT HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME IF THE CAR IS IN AN ACCIDENT, THE BACK COVER WOULD LOOSE AND DETACH FROM THE SEAT DURING IMPACT AND CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO MY 20 MONTHS CHILD. THE BMW DEALERS REFUSED TO REPAIR THE ISSUE AND CLAIMING THAT THEY ARE ONLY COSMETIC PROBLEMS. Consequence: If the circuit board were to overheat, it can increase the risk of a fire.

Depending on the model, there are currently limited parts available, however not all parts are available at this time. Owners will be notified of the recall beginning June 11, 2018, and will receive a second notification when remedy parts become available. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I apologize for my mistake in my original review. After further investigation, I have found that the X6 does have the TPM standard, but it was not accessible to me at the time due to my unfamiliarity with the IDrive. I also experienced a computer glitch that caused a warning message to appear, but it was quickly resolved by the dealership. Despite these minor issues, I still love the car and it definitely turns heads!

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your X6 after almost 2 months! It's great to hear that the handling with the sport package is much improved over your 2007 X5 4.4i. It's also wonderful to hear that you haven't had any reliability problems yet. The X6 is definitely a head turner and it's great that you're enjoying the convenience of an SUV without the boxy SUV reputation. The turbo six performs just as well as the V-8 in the 4.8i X5, but gets significantly better gas mileage. I understand that you didn't want to wait a few months for availability of the turbo V-8, but at current gas prices, the turbo six is an adequate choice. You just have to push it a little harder.

I have an X5 and I'm quite happy with it. I recently took a test drive of the X6-35i and I was really impressed with how it handled curves and uphill acceleration, as well as the interior design. It's definitely a pricy toy, but it's also a lot of fun. The only downside is that it has less room than the X5, but if you're looking for a thrilling driving experience, it's definitely worth considering.

I have every available option on my X6, and I absolutely love it! This car is not your typical SUV; it is a Sports Activity Coupe that can comfortably fit a foursome (whether it's for golf, tennis, skiing, or a date) and all the necessary equipment (clubs, rackets, skis, and luggage). My grandson even enjoys watching movies in the back seat! Recently, I had to take my car to BMW Collision after rear-ending a Cadillac sedan. I was impressed by the car's collision safety behavior, as it only sustained frontal damage while the Cadillac was unfortunately demolished. The repair work done by BMW looks amazing!
