STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-01
- VIN: 2FMGK5C83DB
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: Repeated problems with door latch system in 2013 Ford Flex. Door is interpreted as being ajar, despite being closed. Two warning lights/messages to this effect persist, interior lights will not turn off (which drains the battery), doors will not automatically lock while driving in this condition and as I understand it, if an accident occurred, the airbags would NOT deploy due to the doors not being 'locked'. This is a serious safety issue and causes continual drain on the battery if left in this condition. The only way to sometimes get it to recognize the door being shut is to repeatedly close the door, often having to slam the door shut; this can take up to 15 attempts. Driver's door has been cycled & subsequently replaced six months later. We are taking it in now for a likely 2nd replacement on this door alone. The rear right passenger door & front passenger door have each been replaced as well. The first two repairs/replacement on the driver's door were under warranty, the remaining 2 replacements (and upcoming additional replacement) have been and will be at our own cost. This same door latch system has been recalled on three different occasions on other Ford models, yet not on the Flex. There should be a recall on this 2013 Ford Flex and we should get refunds for our out-of-pocket costs for this repeated and known problem.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-08
- VIN: 2FMHK6D8XDB
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Message came on the dash when driving in downtown traffic that says “power steering assist fault” and the steering wheel is FAR worse than the old cars with manual steering. Almost caused a wreck. I researched that there have been several recalls for that make, model, and problem with recall number 15S18. I called ford recall phone number and they said yes many have been recalled but it’s VIN specific and mine does not qualify because of either where it was built or what company made the component that has failed some have been recalled and some have not. Regardless of where it was made or who built the component if they are having problems and recalling most of them, I feel that my near accident caused by fords “power steering assist fault” that has done the exact same thing should be considered. If their product that they built can not be safely operated without causing accident bodily harm, and/or death and they refuse to correct the problem, maybe they shouldn’t be building vehicles. It’s not like the A/C quit working, it literally almost caused an accident with my wife and kids in the car and is absolutely not drivable…..AT ALL! I had to trailer it home. Only goes straight. Has 125k miles for a 2013

Negative 2013 Ford Flex car reviews
Positive 2013 Ford Flex car reviews

I don't usually write reviews, but I just had to share my love for the Ford Flex. It's the smoothest ride I've ever experienced, and it handles beautifully. The sound system is amazing, and all the features that the Ford Flex offers make it a complete package. I don't think I'll ever own anything else. At first, I wasn't crazy about how it looked on the outside, but the second I sat in it and test drove it, I was hooked.

I bought my Ruby Red Flex Limited brand new in 2013 and it is by far my favourite car out of all the ones I have ever owned, almost equal to my 1995 Ford T-Bird. It has been an amazing car with no issues even after 68k miles. Originally, I was going to look at the Explorer until I saw the Flex and fell in love with it. I love having a car that stands out from others. The panoramic vista sunroof is fantastic and the navigation works great, as does My Sync. The touchscreen is so easy to use and I love the large seats, which is hard to find as most are narrow and short. Whenever people get in my Flex, they are always shocked at how nice it is and how quiet and smooth the ride is. They always want me to drive when we go somewhere. The Sony stereo with 12 speakers and subwoofer is absolutely AWESOME! My husband can hear and feel when I have arrived home! Personally, I LOVE the boxy look! I have looked at new cars and NOTHING compares. I am getting worried since the Flex will be discontinued soon, and I am thinking I'll have to buy the last year model they make. I really think Ford made a huge mistake in the way they marketed the Flex, as it could have been a big hit.

After my son totaled my 2007 Ford Freestyle, I searched for something similar and came up with something better. I found a car that had more room, a better and quieter ride. I have driven it for over 60k miles now all over the country and it is the perfect car for travel and for my small business. It fits all kinds of boxes that I use in my business, including 10 foot long 2x4's that can be completely inside the car. Although the front seat is not the most comfortable and I can't quite get it to where I like it, I would still buy this car again. The tail lights have condensation and it builds up, which shorts the bulb out, but replacements are easily available. The tires are a bit expensive to replace (about $1k for all four), but I have had very little repairs so far. Bottom line - I highly recommend this car.
-
I'm so glad to hear that you bought your beautiful Ruby Red Ford Flex new in 2013 and that you love it! With around 75K miles on it, it sounds like it's been a reliable car for you. It's great to hear that it's roomy, comfortable and drives like a dream. It's a shame that Ford is stopping production, as I'm sure you would have loved to buy a new one in a flash. It really is a great car, it's just too bad that it was never properly marketed.

The price is $3,000 under invoice. I test drove the 2012 Durango and the Flex on the same day. The noise level in the Flex is much quieter than the Durango. The ride in the Flex is still as smooth as a sedan, while the 2012 Durango is much improved. The Durango R/T handles mountain roads better, but the Flex has little body roll unless pushed hard. I drove the Flex in the snow and the grade assist works well, which is important since I live in Colorado. However, the brakes in the Flex are mushy and need improvement compared to GM and BMW. The seats in the Flex are very comfortable and soft, you sit in them, while the Durango seats are harder and you sit on them. The Dodge seats have side bolsters that hold you in place, while the Flex seats have zero bolstering. As for entertainment, the Durango...

Living with a family of 5 at 9000 ft on top of a mountain in Colorado with switchbacks and heavy winters, commuting 30 minutes each way to work, and living on a tight budget can be challenging. However, the Flex has been a lifesaver for me. With regular maintenance and occasional windshield replacements, it has been my only cost in 2 years. I purchased it used at 98k and now have almost 150k on it, thanks to our frequent road trips. The EcoBoost has saved us countless times on the highway, and the gas mileage is pretty decent. Although something failed in my turbo at the beginning of the year, which ended up blowing the engine while I still owed several thousand on it, I still miss my Flex. If I could afford it, I would definitely get another one and take it in for checkups more often.

I have a 2012 Ford Flex and unfortunately experienced a fuel pump failure at 60,000 miles. I took it to the dealer for repair, but it seems that the issue was not fully resolved as I can now smell gas after parking in my garage. It's frustrating to have to go back to the dealer for a problem they created during the initial repair attempt. Despite this setback, I have enjoyed the car thus far, particularly its strong engine and comfortable ride, making it a great choice for long car trips. However, I am a bit concerned about the long-term quality of the vehicle, as Ford is not exactly known for their reliability. I did have to replace the brakes (pads and rotors!) at around 55,000 miles. Overall, this car may be better suited for a lease.

The car's engine failed and had to be replaced, which cost $13,000. Although the car still had $18,000 left on the loan and was blue booked at about $21,000, I had to pay for the new engine. The Ford dealer claimed that the engine failed due to a missed oil change, but I disagreed. I had to replace the car and ended up buying a 2015 F150 with an ecoboost engine. Unfortunately, the AWD transfer case (part of the transmission) failed on this car, which cost $1,600 to replace. In addition, the right side control arm had to be replaced because they could not get the ball joint to release, which ended up costing $1,900. The passenger side turbo charger also rusted badly and had to be disconnected to replace the transfer case. Despite these issues, I have had great experiences with Ford trucks going back to the 90's and hope that this new car will be better. Now we are buying a new turbo charger at $586 plus $560 in labor! So NOW, the cost of replacing this transfer case is a whopping $3,046!! My advice: if your Flex is going over 60,000 miles GET RID OF IT!!

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with the car we purchased a year ago. My wife and I bought it when we had twins, and it has been a reliable car for us until recently. Unfortunately, we had to replace the rack and pinion at 55k miles, which was not covered under the powertrain warranty. It was an unexpected expense of $1k, which was disappointing. We have owned other cars in the past, but we have never had to make a major repair like this with less than 100k miles. Despite this experience, we appreciate the time we had with the car and will continue to explore other options in the future. Thank you for your time.
