SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-06
- VIN: 2fmhk6ccxcb
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: I am writing you in regards to NHTSA # 20V-072, Ford Recall # 20S04. I own a 2012 Ford Flex. It was not included in this recall. The recall included Ford Flex years 2013 through 2018. Though my SUV wasn’t included in the recall for the defective toe links, my SUV’s toe links were found to be defective on June 1, 2015 at Taylor Ford in Michigan. At that time my vehicle had 56,071 miles on it and was still under warranty. My toe links were replaced with part 5A972 which is the same part that is now the cause of Ford Recall 20S04. On 11-6-21 we took my SUV, with 96,930 miles, into Belle Tire for brake work and tire rotation. At that time we were told that the toe links were defective and needed to be replaced and that my tires were bad and needed replacement too. The tires and toe links had been replaced at Ford 40,859 miles prior! At this point we investigated and found the recall for the toe links. We had never been notified by Ford even though part 5A972 which was later found to be defective, had been put on our SUV in 2015. A Ford Part Employee has confirmed that this part is defective. The defective part is a welded part and the part Ford is using to replace this part is a forged part. Defective toe links are very dangerous. The defect can cause loss of steering/control of SUV. I have contacted multiple levels of Ford Customer Care with no response and no assistance offered. My SUV is currently at a Ford Service Center waiting for Ford to respond so that my SUV can be repaired. I'm unable to drive while waiting because this is very dangerous. It is also very expensive to repair.

I bought mine in 2011 with 41,000 miles on it. Since then, I've only put 31,000 miles on it. I've replaced the brakes and got new tires last year, but besides that, I've only done regular maintenance and oil changes. I really wish they still made them!

The price is $3,000 under invoice. I test drove the 2012 Durango and the Flex on the same day. The noise level in the Flex is much quieter than the Durango. The ride in the Flex is still as smooth as a sedan, while the 2012 Durango is much improved. The Durango R/T handles mountain roads better, but the Flex has little body roll unless pushed hard. I drove the Flex in the snow and the grade assist works well, which is important since I live in Colorado. However, the brakes in the Flex are mushy and need improvement compared to GM and BMW. The seats in the Flex are very comfortable and soft, you sit in them, while the Durango seats are harder and you sit on them. The Dodge seats have side bolsters that hold you in place, while the Flex seats have zero bolstering. As for entertainment, the Durango...

I recently upgraded my car from an '05 Infiniti FX35 to the 2011 Titanium Ford Flex. Can you believe it? During my search, I test drove three minivans: Odyssey, Routan & Sienna. Although the Odyssey was the best out of the three, I just couldn't get past the unappealing styling. My family even considered the MINI Countryman for its fun driving experience, but unfortunately, it lacked the space we needed. Then, we discovered the Flex. It has the smoothest ride and makes the most of its spacious interior. We've heard nothing but positive feedback from other Flex owners as well. We are thrilled with our purchase and highly recommend it to anyone in need of space without sacrificing style.

Car has a great ride even on long distance trips. 2nd row seating has enough leg room as the front row. Priceless. City/Hwy average 19-22 depends on how much city driving you do. Highway I can get 26mpg or a bit better if I keep it under 80mph. I'll be buying another one of these
-
Fantastic car! It drives really well and has a smooth ride. Plus, it has plenty of room inside for tall people. And with the seats down, it can hold more than many pick-up trucks.

The headrest can be quite uncomfortable as it pushes against the back of your head. It may even mess up your hair-do, which can be frustrating. While some may argue that it's a safety feature, it's understandable to feel that it's a bad design. After all, other luxury car brands like Mercedes and Lexus prioritize safety without compromising on comfort. It's important to have a car that is both safe and comfortable, and hopefully, car manufacturers will continue to improve their designs to achieve this balance.

I have a family of 5 and that's why we bought this vehicle. While the vehicle is great in handling the road, we did experience some issues with power steering and air conditioning. We initially paid over $1000 for repairs, but unfortunately, the steering pump broke. We also had to pay a couple of hundred for the air conditioning. Additionally, we found that the Ford Sync system was not easy to update and did not work properly with our phone. Despite these challenges, I believe that this vehicle has a lot of potential and could be a great fit for the right person.

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with the car we purchased a year ago. My wife and I bought it when we had twins, and it has been a reliable car for us until recently. Unfortunately, we had to replace the rack and pinion at 55k miles, which was not covered under the powertrain warranty. It was an unexpected expense of $1k, which was disappointing. We have owned other cars in the past, but we have never had to make a major repair like this with less than 100k miles. Despite this experience, we appreciate the time we had with the car and will continue to explore other options in the future. Thank you for your time.

I have a 2012 Ford Flex and unfortunately experienced a fuel pump failure at 60,000 miles. I took it to the dealer for repair, but it seems that the issue was not fully resolved as I can now smell gas after parking in my garage. It's frustrating to have to go back to the dealer for an issue that they created during the initial repair attempt. Despite this setback, I have generally had a positive experience with the car. The engine is strong and the ride quality is great, making it a comfortable option for long car trips. However, I do have some concerns about the long-term quality of the car, as I had to replace the brakes (pads and rotors!) at around 55,000 miles. Overall, I think this car may be better suited for a lease.
Giovanni Schuppe 2024-05-15
The car's engine failed and had to be replaced, which cost $13,000. Although the car still had $18,000 left on the loan and was blue booked at about $21,000, I had to pay for the new engine. The Ford dealer claimed that the engine failed due to a missed oil change, but I disagreed. I had to replace the car and ended up buying a 2015 F150 with an ecoboost engine. Unfortunately, the AWD transfer case (part of the transmission) failed on this car, which cost $1,600 to replace. In addition, the right side control arm had to be replaced because they could not get the ball joint to release, which ended up costing $1,900. The passenger side turbo charger also rusted badly and had to be disconnected to replace the transfer case. Despite these issues, I have had great experiences with Ford trucks going back to the 90's and hope that this new car will be better. Now we are buying a new turbo charger at $586 plus $560 in labor! So NOW, the cost of replacing this transfer case is a whopping $3,046!! My advice: if your Flex is going over 60,000 miles GET RID OF IT!!
