The Nissan Altima is a mid-size car manufactured by Nissan since 1992. It is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which began in 1955.

The Altima has historically been larger, more powerful, and more luxurious than the Nissan Sentra but less so than the Nissan Maxima. The first through fourth-generation cars were manufactured exclusively in the United States and officially sold in North and South America, along with the Middle East and Australia. For other markets, Nissan sold a related mid-size sedan called the Nissan Teana which was between the Altima and Maxima in terms of size. In 2013, the Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima.

The name "Altima" was originally applied to a top trim line of the Nissan Leopard for the Japanese market in 1986, and then to the Nissan Laurel mid-size car sold in Central America and the Caribbean before 1992. In 1992, Nissan discontinued the Stanza which was a Nissan Bluebird clone, replacing it with the US-built Altima, while remaining a compact car. The first Altima was produced in June 1992, as a 1993 model. All Altima models for the North American market were built in Smyrna, Tennessee, until June 2004, when Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant also began producing the model to meet high demand.

  • VIN: 1N4BL4BW1LC
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: Unpredictably vehicle acceleration is delayed by approximately 3-4 seconds. Car then proceeds to take off after transmission kicks in. I almost got hit by a semi during a left turn. And similar near miss incidents have occurred. Car also fails to accelerate in a predictable manner when needed rpm goes up but vehicle will stall/hesitate. The vehicle is under warranty and has been to the dealer 3 times. They will not perform any maintenance on the vehicle. Saying it needs to be replicated in person. The Issue is not easily replicated, but when the issue presents itself, it poses a great safety risk to occupants in the vehicle and all drivers/pedestrians on the road around the vehicle. This seems to be a known issue by Nissan but they fail to implement a recall or any other corrective action. I can provide invoices/Statements of work but will have to retrieve them from the dealer. I also have video evidence of the issues occurring. Dealer has seen the videos but refuses to repair, replace, or recompensate for the issues listed above off the videos alone.

Negative 2020 Nissan Altima car reviews

  1. Weston Hermiston 2024-11-01

When I test drove a 2020 Altima, I found that getting in and out of the backseat was a bit of a challenge for me as I'm 6'0

  2. Davion Mertz 2024-09-12

I've been a loyal Nissan customer since 1992 and have owned 6 of their vehicles, including 4 Altimas. Recently, I had to part ways with my 2017 Altima with the help of the dealer and a $1000 contribution from Nissan, which I found disappointing. While I did experience some issues with the car, such as a clunking noise in the trunk and surface rusting after 2 years in the rain channel around the trunk, I was excited to receive my 2020 Altima Platinum in December 2020. However, after only 1.5 years, I noticed some rusting around the spot weld on the trunk lid, which was a bit concerning. I'm still waiting for the dealer to repair it under warranty, but I understand that rust can be a tricky issue to deal with. Additionally, I've found that the back-up camera isn't very effective in bright sunlight. Overall, while I've noticed a decline in Nissan's quality over the past few years, I'm happy to report that the car is running well so far, with only 25,000 km on the clock.

  3. Baron Cormier 2024-04-13

This 2020 Altima was a rental vehicle for a weekend getaway. The car had 10k miles on the odometer and unfortunately, there were some issues during the trip. There were some rattles in the dash and interior, and the check engine light came on a few hours into the trip. Additionally, the car was quite noisy and the drive line vibration was very annoying. However, the fuel mileage was a plus. Although the steering wheel controls and infotainment system were difficult to use, I appreciate the experience and will consider other options in the future.

  4. Walter Hauck 2024-03-09

I recently visited a Nissan dealership to explore the SR, SL, or Platinum models. During my visit, the salesman informed me that the interior stitching is only available in orange for the SR models. While the orange stitching looks fantastic on cars with an orange exterior, it may not blend well with other exterior colors. I was disappointed to hear this news, but I appreciate the salesman's honesty and helpfulness.

  5. Chaim Cummerata 2024-02-17

I've always heard that these were good cars, so I thought I would give them a try. However, I found that the base S model is very bare bones. To get some nice driver assist options, aluminum wheels, and other convenience items, you have to get the SR, which comes with a list price of $28,000. Unfortunately, you can't get red, and you have to pay extra for maroon, which is not even red. Additionally, the only interior color available is black, which can be quite hot in the summer. When I compared it to the Hyundai Sonata, which is the same basic size car, I found that the Sonata has an 8-speed transmission with a stop/go feature and is also offered with a turbo engine with about 30% more horsepower. The SEL gives you all the packages offered by the Altima SR and more, including parking assist, lane departure, and remote start, all at a lower price. It is also available with tan or gray upholstery in addition to black, and the Calypso Red color is no charge. Moreover, with some

  1. Earl Vandervort 2024-11-26

This is a really nice car! If you're looking for something sporty, fast, and with sharp definitive lines, this is the perfect car for you. It's also great on fuel and the seats are incredibly comfortable. Plus, it has some fantastic features. This particular car is a showroom floor model, so it comes with tinted windows, a clear bra, door trim protectors, and handle protection.

  2. Kyle Wolf 2024-10-11

The 2020 Altima has a fresh, modern exterior design and boasts a range of technical innovations inside, such as a larger screen, an updated Nissan Connect package, more comfortable seats, and additional sensors. It's also easy to drive, with good mileage and a CVT transmission that provides increased acceleration.

  3. Vladimir Welch 2024-10-08

I've owned a couple of Altima's in the past, but this 2020 Nissan Altima-SR is by far the best in terms of drive quality, comfort, handling, and overall interior/exterior design. Despite the 19

  4. Otho Champlin 2024-08-06

I've been driving an Altima rental for almost two weeks while my truck is in the shop. Although it's the low-end trim model, I find it quite comfortable. The car may be a little underpowered when starting out on an incline, but it's still acceptable. I'm really impressed with the great gas mileage it's getting. The car can easily accommodate four adults, which is a plus. I particularly like the keyless entry and remote start feature, which gives me hope that the car has nice electronics. However, the entertainment system seems to be the weak link. Although there's a nice big display, I can only connect my iPhone with a cable to access basic phone and iPod functions, which were available on a 2012 basic model Toyota. So, my message to auto manufacturers is this: I won't buy any vehicle that doesn't include Android Auto or Apple Carplay. It's not just Nissan that's losing at this game; Toyota is guilty too. I don't want to regret my vehicle purchase every time I get into my car. There was a time when it would be easy to upgrade to an aftermarket sound system, but that seems far from the case now. Since there's already a nice display installed, I wish there was a way to enable Carplay. I would even pay a reasonable amount to unlock that feature. But now, I would just have years of a less-than-optimal experience if I purchase this model.

This Altima SL has a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive. On a trip from NY to San Antonio and back, it averaged an impressive 42.1 mpg while cruising at 80 to 85 mph, fully loaded with luggage and people. It is the best car I have ever owned. The controls are excellent, the handling is superb, and it is smooth to operate. The Bose radio is top-notch, and the seating is really comfortable. The only flaw I noticed was that the passenger seat is too low, which made my wife uncomfortable seeing forward. She is 5'6
