2018 Chevrolet Malibu problems
The Chevrolet Malibu is a mid-size car manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet from model years 1964–1983 and since 1997. The Malibu began as a trim-level of the Chevrolet Chevelle, becoming its own model line in 1978. Originally a rear-wheel drive intermediate, GM revived the Malibu nameplate as a front-wheel-drive car in 1997.
Named after the coastal community of Malibu, California, the Malibu was marketed primarily in North America, with the eighth generation introduced globally. It is currently the only sedan offered by Chevrolet in the U.S.
First generation (Chevelle Malibu, 1964)
The first Malibu was a top-line subseries of the mid-sized Chevrolet Chevelle from 1964 to 1972. Malibus were generally available in a full range of bodystyles including a four-door sedan, two-door Sport Coupe hardtop, convertible and two-seat station wagon. Interiors were more lavish than lesser Chevelle 300 and 300 Deluxe models thanks to patterned cloth and vinyl upholstery (all-vinyl in convertibles and station wagons), deep-twist carpeting, deluxe steering wheel and other items. The Malibu SS performance package was available only as a two-door Sport Coupe hardtop or convertible and added bucket seats, center console (with optional four-speed manual or Powerglide transmissions), engine gauges and special wheelcovers, and offered with any six-cylinder or V8 engine offered in other Chevelles - with the top option being a 300 hp (224 kW; 304 PS) 327 cu in (5.4 L) in 1964.
For 1965, Malibus and other Chevelles received new grilles and revised tail sections and had the exhaust pipes replaced but carried over the same basic styling and bodystyles from 1964. The Malibu and Malibu SS models continued as before with the SS featuring a blacked-out grille and special wheelcovers. Top engine option was now a 350 hp (261 kW; 355 PS) 327 cu in (5.4 L) V8. 201 of the 1965 Malibu SS cars got Regular Production Option (RPO) Z16, which include a heavily modified chassis and Chevy's new 375 horsepower 396 cubic inch V8. All were hardtops, although rumors persist that one convertible was built.
The Malibu SS was replaced in 1966 by a new Chevelle SS-396 series that included a big-block 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8 engine (Canadian market did not receive the SS396 but marketed the former Malibu SS nameplate until January 1967 when it was phased out), heavy duty suspension and other performance equipment. Other SS-396 equipment was similar to Malibu Sport Coupes and convertibles including an all-vinyl bench seat. Bucket seats and console with floor shift were now optional on the SS and for 1966 with the SS now denoting a car with a big-block engine, the bucket seats became a new option on the regular Malibu Sport Coupe and convertible, upon which any six-cylinder or small-block V8 could be ordered. Also new for 1966 was the Chevelle Malibu four-door Sport Sedan hardtop. Styling revisions on all 1966 Chevelles including more rounded styling similar to the full-sized Chevrolets with sail panels and tunneled rear windows featured on two-door hardtop coupes.
For 1967, the same assortment of bodystyles were continued with styling changes similar to all other Chevelles including a new grille and revised tail section with taillights that wrapped around to the side. New this year was a Chevelle Malibu Concours station wagon with simulated woodgrain exterior side panel trim. Front disc brakes were a new option along with a stereo 8-track tape player. The same assortment of drivetrains carried over from 1966 with the top 327 cu in (5.4 L) V8 dropped from 350 to 325 hp (261 to 242 kW; 355 to 330 PS).

Common 2018 Chevrolet Malibu problems
The 2018 Chevrolet Malibu has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the engine, auto start-stop system, and suspension.
One of the most widespread complaints is the engine stalling, which has been reported by owners at around 38,000 miles. This issue is usually caused by a sensor failure, such as the mass airflow or O2 sensor, which will cause a check engine light to appear. Replacing these sensors costs around $300, depending on which one failed.
Another problem reported by 2018 Malibu owners is issues with the auto start-stop system, which has been reported at around 83,000 miles. This issue is usually caused by a problem with the battery control module, which prevents the system from turning on and off. Replacing the battery control module costs around $175, depending on local labor rates.
The springs squeaking is also a common problem reported by some 2018 Chevy Malibu models at around 15,000 miles. This issue is usually caused by worn-out or loose springs, which can create extra noise from the suspension. Worn-out springs cost around $550 to replace, while simply adjusting them costs around $150.
The 2018 Chevy Malibu has also been subject to six recalls, which is more than many other midsize sedans from the same year. The most serious recall covers the fuel pump flange weld, which may fracture, causing damage to the fuel line. Chevy will replace the flange on affected models for free.
Other recalls cover the rear seats, as well as missing bolts and the brake calipers. Chevy will replace and repair affected parts for free.
In terms of longevity, a well-maintained 2018 Chevrolet Malibu can last around 200,000 miles, which is about 100,000 miles less than the top-rated Toyota Camry. Regular annual maintenance costs are higher than other midsize sedans, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $578 per year.
In conclusion, while the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu has some common problems related to the engine, auto start-stop system, and suspension, these issues are similar to other midsize sedans and can be resolved with average repair costs. A well-maintained Malibu can last around 200,000 miles, but regular annual maintenance costs are higher than other midsize sedans.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-08
- VIN: 1G1ZD5ST3JF
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: While driving th vehicle the component that ruptured was the vehicles vacuum brake booster pump which connected directly to the engine. The ruptured caused shards of metal to be launched into the engine resulting in no brake power and needs an engine swap. There was a recall on this model vehicle for the Pedal sensor malfunction that results in the cars engine going into a reduced power mode abruptly and suddenly while driving. This malfunction has occurred on this vehicle and I was not aware of this vehicle models recall history but it stated that the recall was successfully closed out in 2020. I purchased my 2018 Chevy Malibu in the year 2021 and the issue still persist. I am not confident that the recall on this vehicle was either fully completed or successfully fixed before purchasing. The car is now at the dealer and the repair team explains the vehicle needs a new engine. I questioned about the pedal sensor malfunction and asked if it was possible that this malfunction sending the vehicle into a reduced power mode so suddenly could have effected or cause wear and tear on brake booster pump connected to the engine. The dealers repair team wasn’t confident in saying it wasn’t possible. This is likely a design issue and if a recall was completed and I was sold a vehicle uninformed of this potential issue but the malfunction still persisted I do not believe I should have to cover the full cost of repairs for this chain of events. This malfunctioned put me at danger and if it had occurred while my wife and 3 children were in the car it could have been life threatening not only to us but the other drivers around as well. With the engine reduced you can’t accelerate and with the booster pump ruptures mid drive you lose all brake power. It is hard to understand the faulty design in this but I have read reviews that others have had the same issue so I do not believe I am alone in this.

It's like hitting the EASY button! Everything is where I need it to be, it works as advertised, and it has a sporty feel. The car has great gas mileage, and I love the stereo - I'm a hard rock junky. I think the car is even better than my Benz, without the high cost and maintenance nightmares! I absolutely love it!

It's a very reliable vehicle with great technology.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you have been experiencing with your car. It seems like the car stalls out unexpectedly and the power and air conditioning are not functioning properly. This can be a very frustrating and concerning situation. I would recommend taking the car to the dealer to have it inspected and see if they can identify the problem. I hope that they are able to find a solution for you soon. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

This car has some serious issues that need to be addressed. Countless reviews have highlighted problems with acceleration and power reduction, which is a major safety concern. It is unacceptable that these issues have not been addressed by the manufacturer. I have personally experienced these problems and it is clear that they pose a significant risk to drivers and passengers. It is important that the manufacturer takes responsibility for these issues and takes action to ensure the safety of their customers. The 2018 Malibu has been experiencing a range of issues, including android auto malfunctions, interior car light failures, double honking when the car door is opened, and shift to park issues. Additionally, the radio has been known to stay on after the car has been turned off. Some drivers have also reported being locked out of their cars, only to have them unlock themselves hours later. Filling the gas tank can also be a slow process. Despite these challenges, it's important to note that the Malibu's interior is aesthetically pleasing. While some drivers have reported issues with the chrome lining peeling off, it's worth noting that this is a common issue across many vehicles. Overall, the Malibu is a reliable car that is worth considering for purchase.

The sensors seem to be malfunctioning. The car doesn't recognize the key and won't start. Additionally, the tire sensor warning is on. Let's hope we make it home safely.

The 2018 Malibu LT rental I had was disappointing due to the underpowered 1.5L engine. It struggled to accelerate above 70mph on inclines and only returned an average of 20.5 mpg on a 450-mile highway trip. These issues detracted from my overall experience with the car. Chevrolet could improve this model by addressing these concerns.

I bought this car back in 2018 and unfortunately, I've had some issues with it. In 2019, there was a problem with the gear shift and now, in 2021, I'm experiencing the same issue. I had to pay out of pocket for the repair and just two weeks later, my dashboard is displaying a warning message about the steering assist and the steering wheel is locking up. It's been frustrating to deal with these problems, and I don't think I would choose to purchase this car again.
