The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size four-wheel drive off-road SUVs manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and currently in its fourth generation. The Wrangler JL, the most recent generation, was unveiled in late 2017 and is produced at Jeep's Toledo Complex.
The Wrangler is a direct progression from the World War II Jeep, through the CJ (Civilian Jeeps) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep, and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s through the 1980s. Similar to the Willys MB and the CJ Jeeps before it, all Wrangler models continue to use a separate body and frame, rigid live axles both front and rear, a tapering nose design with flared fenders, a fold-flat windshield and can be driven without doors. Also, with few exceptions, they have part-time four-wheel drive systems, with the choice of high and low gearing, and standard open bodies with removable hard or soft tops. However, the Wrangler series was specifically redesigned to be safer and more comfortable on-road, to attract more daily drivers, by upgrading its suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. The suspension on all Wranglers included trackbars and anti-roll bars, and, from the 1997 TJ onwards, front and rear coil springs instead of the previous leaf springs.
From 2004 on, the Wrangler has been complemented with long-wheelbase versions, called Wrangler Unlimited. 2004-2006 models were longer versions with 2 doors. In 2004 only automatic transmission-equipped “Unlimited” versions were sold. In 2005 both an automatic and manual 6-speed (NSG-370) were offered. Since 2007, the long-wheelbase Wranglers were four-door models, offering over 20 in (508 mm) more room. By mid-2017 the four-door models represented three-quarters of all new Wranglers on the market.

- Summary: I was driving my 2020 Jeep Wrangler on the highway when all of a sudden I felt the car shake. I pulled quickly to the side of the highway as I thought I maybe had a tire issue. When I got to the side, the car was making a strange noise, so I called AAA to be towed. I had NO warning lights or anything to advise me that I was about to have an issue. I was lucky to get to the side of the highway without having a safety issue. After the mechanic checked out the car they noticed the Oil Pump had failed which caused the engine to seize. The car only had 63,176 miles on it with all the regular Oil changes performed at the jeep dealership. I had no leaks of oil, or warning lights and jeep didn't indicate any issues at the last oil change. I feel this is a big safety issue. Had I not got over to the side of the road, my car would be dead in the middle of the highway with no warning.

- Summary: In August the entire instrument cluster on my vehicle suddenly quit working while driving. Just prior to this the check seat belt warning came on though my seatbelt was engaged. I pulled over, released then re-engaged the seatbelt , turned the engine off and restarted it and began driving when the entire instrument cluster lost illumination and NONE of the gauges were working, no speedometer, engine monitoring, gas gauge etc. But the engine was running,lights ,turn signals, windshield wipers were all working. After my son and I tried unsuccessfully to find the problem we contacted our Jeep dealership, but couldn’t get an appointment until mid September to have it checked. They found that it was an internal problem and the unit needs to be replaced. However the parts are unavailable at this time from their supplier. Apparently this has been a problem with other owners and the supplier said that Jeep is changing the cluster unit and the new ones won’t be available to order until November 20th. I believe this is a safety issue since the driver is unable to monitor issues using the instrument cluster and it occurred suddenly and obviously has happened to other owners and therefore a recall should be issued and the problem fixed.

During driving at several different speeds, I have experienced difficulty in controlling steering to include but not limited to instances of jerking and the vehicle drifting from side to side. When these episode have transpired the vehicle failed to drive in a straight line. Additionally, while driving at highway speeds and pressing the brake pedal, the vehicle has drifted severely to the left. As the vehicle is under warranty, I set up an appointment at South Point Jeep in Tulsa, Ok and notified the repair person of the issue. I was advised that my vehicle had no open recalls and that they did not take into consideration any TSB's. The vehicle has not yet been repaired.

- Summary: I am the origional owner of this vehicle. The vehicle has approximately 67,000 miles on it. I own a Mopar premier extended warranty covering the vehicle for 7 years, or 100,000 miles, whatever comes first. My complaint, which I believe creates a severe safety hazard on a public roadway, is the inner front fender wheel lines have failed on three different occasions requiring replacement. When the liners fail, it leaves exposed the 4 individual brake lines from the master cylinder. Road debris, when the inner fender wheel well is missing, can easily strick the brake lines by road debris thrown from the front tire while driving leading to brake failure and loss of control which can result in injury up to and including death to the driver, occupants, or others. I have contacted corporate Jeep on two different occasions to ask for repairs, and they refused to correct the issue. Their position is the vehicle is beyond the 3 year, 36,000 mile initial warranty, and my extended warrenty will not cover the repair as this wheel well liner is considerd a "trim piece". I am looking to NHTSA for assistance as this failure is something that should be mandated for a safety recall, and the dealer has told me the design of the liner on the JL series is prone to failure. I have owned 4 other Jeep Rubicon's over the past 10-15 years, and this has not been an issue on my other vehicles prior to the redesign of current Jeep Wrangler JL series. I have filed a complaint with Jeep, and they refuse to escallate my issue. The dealer says they cannot address the issue without corporate approval, and Jeep does not have a work flow to escallate the issue internally. I have photos which will clearly show the exposed 4 brake lines at the upper edge of the frame rail. I attempted to upload 8 photos of approximately 80-90 KB each. No injuries were sustained. The front passenger side of the vehicle was damaged. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was repaired for cosmetic damages, however; it was not diagnosed or repaired for the failure. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal failed to operate causing the contact to crash into the vehicle in front. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not damaged. No injuries were sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a high-current fuse array that needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Jeep Wrangler and 2022-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. The high voltage battery may fail internally and lead to a vehicle fire while parked or driving.
- Consequence: A vehicle fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures, and not to recharge their vehicles until they are repaired. Dealers will update the high voltage battery pack software and replace the battery pack assembly, if necessary, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed October 11, 2024. A second notice will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 95B. Vehicles in this recall that were previously recalled for the same issue under NHTSA Recall 23V-787 will need to have the new remedy performed.

- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. The wiring harness for the rearview camera and the center brake light may short circuit, which can disable the rearview camera image and center brake light. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 111, "Rear Visibility" and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Consequence: A rearview camera image that does not display decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, a center brake light that fails to illuminate can fail to indicate to other drivers that the vehicle is slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers replaced the harness for the center brake light and rearview camera and/or the spare tire carrier/harness assembly, as necessary, free of charge. All vehicles were repaired by January 15, 2024. Owner notification letters were mailed September 26, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. I'm thrilled with my JL! It's taken me everywhere I've wanted to go. Although I did have a minor issue with the stop-start feature, which was quickly resolved under warranty. I've been driving my Jeep for a year now and I absolutely love it. Taking the doors and top off is always a blast! The steering can be a bit unusual, as it's a solid axle and drives differently from other cars I've owned, such as the ML350, X5, and X6. But I don't mind it at all - in fact, I think it adds to the charm of the vehicle. I can definitely see myself owning a Wrangler for the rest of my life!

This will be my 4th Wrangler Unlimited. It's great to hear that the 2021 model is an improvement over the 2015 one, with better handling and a smoother ride.

I have owned a YJ, TJ, JK and JL over the years. The difference from previous models is worth noting. I have to admit that this is the only unlimited version of the four models, which may have influenced my opinion in terms of ride comfort due to the longer wheelbase. However, let's face it, the JL is now in a different class. It drives better than before yet gives you that same tough as nails go-anywhere feeling we got from the previous models. The JL is much more refined, handles better and my 2.0 turbo is faster, smoother and gets better MPG. The 8-speed transmission is sublimely seamless and the stop-start feature is barely noticeable. The fit and finish on this Jeep is amazing, adorned with premium materials which are hard to find these days in most vehicles. I think the influence of Fiat in this case is a major plus as it gives this American classic a shot of European flair. My only complaint so far is that the 2.0 turbo calls for 91 octane which is hard to find in RI, which forces me to use 93 instead, which is about $3.00 per gallon. This probably negates my fuel savings, but it still hasn't taken the smile off my face from the way this vehicle performs. I've driven it on four-hour highway treks, through snow storms, heavy rain and dirt roads and it feels great in all of these conditions. The four-door version has all of the interior space one could need and more. Jeeps certainly aren't for everyone, as they can be noisy and less controlled than SUV models. However, the JL is less noisy and much more controllable than all of the previous models. I highly recommend buying a JL.

This is my 2nd jeep and I am so happy with it! I never had any problems with my first jeep, so I decided to get another one. It has a very solid, quiet, and safe feeling ride, and it looks great when driving it.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Jeep that I bought in May 2019 for just under $60K. Unfortunately, in August with just over 2,000 miles, I had to take it in to be repainted because the bright white paint turned yellow due to too much heat from the engine. There are no vents in the hood, which I think is the main issue. Although the dealership did have it repainted and it looks great, I spent $700 on a clear bra right after I bought it and Chrysler does not cover to have it replaced. I think it would be great if Chrysler offered replacement hoods with vents for the bright white jeeps. Now I will have to spend another $1,000 - $1,500 to purchase a hood with vents and have it painted PLUS another $700.00 to have the clear bra put back on. This puts my jeep at about $63k, which is quite a lot. I'm a bit disappointed and I think I should have stayed with Lexus. Thanks for listening to my story!

There have been numerous complaints about the new JLs, including issues with death wobble, bad steering, and bad welds. While there are ongoing investigations and recalls, it is concerning that drivers' lives may be at risk in a car that is priced so high, starting at $32k+. The vehicle is very basic and unreliable, with poor quality and poorly made components. In my opinion, the MSRP should be well under 24k. Unfortunately, the 2019 model has not addressed the same problems that persisted in the 2018 JL. It would be great if the steering could be upgraded and the frames could be properly welded, like other manufacturers. At present, the steering wanders from side to side, and hitting a pothole at over 60mph can cause the whole car to shake out of control. The welds on the frame are incomplete and too shallow, with some completely separating. It is important that FCA takes these issues seriously and makes positive changes to ensure the safety of their consumers. I have been addressing this issue since June, and despite having three star cases opened on my Jeep, there seems to be no end in sight. The first time, it was the fuel pump, the second time they identified the ABS pump as the culprit, and the third time I was told it was the wire harness. Despite these attempts, the issue remains unresolved. Given that my Jeep has less than 100k miles, it is unacceptable to have encountered so many issues.

Ensure that you are fully informed about the details of your 'full coverage warranty'. It has come to my attention that there may be certain hidden clauses that you are not aware of. As a young woman who lost her job due to the pandemic and has a child to care for, it has been particularly challenging for me, especially when my Jeep broke down after only a year of use. Despite my efforts to get it fixed under warranty, I have faced difficulties in getting the necessary assistance or even a call back. Unfortunately, I have been informed that I will have to bear the expenses myself as I do not reside near a dealership. Based on my experiences with their vehicles, I cannot recommend them. I also own a Dodge Ram 1500, and after the warranty expired, the transmission failed, which seems to be a common issue. I hope that this review will assist others in making an informed decision when purchasing a vehicle.

To be honest, I was forewarned about the newer Wranglers, but I still love my car. Unfortunately, within just three days of owning it, a bottom cord on the passenger seat broke. The dealership informed me that the only solution is to replace the entire seat.
