1990 Ford Aerostar problems
The Ford Aerostar is a range of vans that was manufactured by Ford from the 1986 to the 1997 model years. The first minivan produced by Ford, the model line was marketed against the Chevrolet Astro/GMC Safari and the first two generations of the Chrysler minivans. Introduced shortly before the Ford Taurus, the Aerostar derived its name from its slope-nosed "one-box" exterior (although over six feet tall, the body of the Aerostar retained a drag coefficient of Cd=0.37, besting the Lincoln Mark VII).
The first minivan powered exclusively by V6 engines, the Aerostar was also one of the first vehicles to introduce all-wheel drive to the segment in North America. The model line was sold in multiple configurations, including passenger and cargo vans, along with an extended-length body. Sold primarily in the United States and Canada, a limited number of vehicles were exported outside of North America.
The Aerostar was replaced for the 1995 model year by the front-wheel drive Ford Windstar; Ford sold both model lines concurrently through the 1997 model year. The role of the Aerostar cargo van was left unfilled, with the Ford Transit Connect serving as the closest successor (in terms of size and capability).
For its entire production, the model line was assembled by the St. Louis Assembly Plant in Hazelwood, Missouri. In total, 2,029,577 vehicles were produced across a single generation.

THEY SAID ABSOTULY NOT THAT IT WAS EVERYTHING THE SAME. IT WAS ONLY 10 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED MY VAN THAT I NOTICED A GAS SMELL AND HAD IT CHECK WITH MONARCH IN EXETER. THEY ASSURED ME THEY COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK BUT THAT THEY COULD SMELL THE GAS. I HAVE SINCE HAD IT TO MANY OTHER STATIONS TO HAVE IT CHECK AND I GET THEY SAME ANSWER. I HAVE DONE SOME INVESTIGATING MYSELF AND FOUND THAT FORD HAS A EXSISTING PROBLEM WITH THEIR FUEL TANKS AND LEAKS. I FEEL THIS IS WHAT HAS HAPPEN IN MY CASE. I FEEL I HAVE A LEAK IN MY GAS TANK AND THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I FEEL THIS IS THE MANUFACTORS REPONSEABLITY AND THAT IT WHY I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP. THE GAS LEAK IS GETTING WORSE AND THE SMELL IS REALLY BAD. I NEED THIS VAN FIXED IT IS A HAZARD TO DRIVE. - Consequence: IF AN IGNITION SOURCE IS PRESENT, A FIRE COULD RESULT.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE, THROUGH MARCH 31, 2002. THIS COVERAGE WILL ONLY BE FOR STRUCTURAL CRACKS AT THE TOP OF THE TANK AND WILL NOT INCLUDE OTHER DAMAGE CAUSED BY AN ACCIDENT OR ROAD DEBRIS.

ALL OF THESE CONDITIONS CANRESULT IN A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned having trouble finding a vehicle that can comfortably fit 7 passengers and their luggage. I completely understand how frustrating that can be! I wanted to share my experience with the Ford Aerostar - I bought it new and it was the perfect solution for me. I've tried other mini vans and SUVs since then, including the Ford Excursion, but none have had as much luggage room as the Aerostar. It's a shame that many vehicles these days don't seem to prioritize space for your gear. Have you had any luck finding a vehicle that meets your needs?

I love this van! I bought it new and have been driving it ever since. It's comfortable, maneuverable, and has always met my needs. I've never been disappointed with it, whether I'm driving or parking. Plus, it's versatile enough to carry both people and lumber, thanks to its easily removable back seats.

Your vehicle has been through a lot, but it's still going strong! With 160,000 miles on the clock, it's impressive that it's still running. Although it has some wear and tear, you've done a great job maintaining it. It's been used for some tough jobs, but it's held up well. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient, it's still a reliable vehicle that gets the job done.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my van. I bought it used in 1993 with only 19,000 km on it, and it's been a reliable vehicle for me ever since. Over the past 10 years of ownership, I've only had to replace the starter and air conditioning compressor, and my total repair costs have been less than $1000. In comparison, a workmate of mine has a 1998 Chevy Venture and had to spend $1300 on a single repair job. I'm grateful for my Ford and its dependability. Thank you for listening!

I drive this van to school every day and while it has some flaws, it gets me where I need to go. In winter, the gas mileage can drop to as low as 7 mpg, which can be frustrating. The exterior design could use some improvement, but the interior is quite nice. It could benefit from more power, especially when driving on inclines, but overall it gets the job done. Unfortunately, it doesn't heat up very well and the traction in snow is not great, but with some caution, it's manageable.
