1995 Dodge Stratus problems
The Dodge Stratus is a mid-size car that was introduced by Dodge in December 1994 and was based on the 4-door sedan Chrysler JA platform. The Stratus, Plymouth Breeze, and Chrysler Cirrus were all on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1996 and 1997. It received critical acclaim at launch, but ratings fell over time. An updated version of the Stratus was introduced for 2001, with the Cirrus being renamed as the Chrysler Sebring, and a coupé model was also added to the range. Production ended in early 2006 at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant after building 1,308,123 Stratus and Sebrings since 2000.
The Dodge Avenger replaced the Stratus nameplate in early 2007 for the 2008 model year.
After the discontinuation of the Stratus sedan in 2006, the assembly line and tooling were sold to the Russian concern, GAZ, which manufactured 9,000 units of a very slightly modified Stratus from 2008 through 2010 called the Volga Siber.

Common 1995 Dodge Stratus problems
The Dodge Stratus, manufactured between 1995 and 2006, is known to have several common issues. One of the most frequent problems reported by Dodge Stratus owners is related to the transmission. This can include issues such as rough shifting, slipping, or failure to engage. In some cases, these issues can be resolved by simply replacing the transmission fluid and filter. However, if the issue persists, it may be necessary to repair or replace damaged transmission components such as the solenoids, valve body, or torque converter.
Another common issue with the Dodge Stratus is related to the fuel system. This can include issues such as difficulty starting, rough idling, or poor acceleration. The fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel injectors may need to be replaced as needed. Regularly maintaining the fuel system with fuel additives and proper fuel quality can help prevent issues from occurring in the first place.
Electrical issues are also a concern with the Dodge Stratus. Common issues include problems with the alternator, battery, or wiring. Inspecting wiring and connections for damage or corrosion and replacing any damaged or worn electrical components can help prevent issues from occurring.
Suspension problems can also occur with the Dodge Stratus. This can include issues such as a bumpy ride, uneven tire wear, or noise when going over bumps. Worn or damaged suspension components such as struts or sway bar links may need to be replaced as needed. Regularly maintaining proper tire pressure and alignment can also help reduce stress on the suspension system.
Oil leaks are a common problem with the Dodge Stratus SXT model, particularly in the 1995-2000 models. Oil leaks can occur from a variety of locations, including the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, and camshaft seal. Regularly checking and maintaining proper oil levels can help prevent additional leaks from occurring.
Finally, suspension problems can also occur with the Dodge Stratus. This can include issues such as a bumpy ride, uneven tire wear, or noise when going over bumps. Worn or damaged suspension components such as struts or sway bar links may need to be replaced as needed. Regularly maintaining proper tire pressure and alignment can also help reduce stress on the suspension system.
In conclusion, while the Dodge Stratus was a mid-size car that was generally considered to be reliable, there were a few common issues that owners of this car may encounter. These issues can vary depending on the model year and trim level, but some of the most frequent problems reported by Dodge Stratus owners are related to the transmission, fuel system, electrical system, and suspension. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help prevent these issues from worsening and causing more significant problems.
How reliable is a Dodge Stratus?
So reliable car!
After 20 years being manufactured, my car works great, the big issue is with the front end. At least 2 times a year, for the last 5 years I had to repair it. Parts are difficult to find and original or replacement parts, last the same time. I used it every day and its nice to drive.
Why was the Dodge Stratus discontinued?
During this time, sales declined as its ratings by consumer and auto magazines fell among competing mid-size cars. At the same time sedan market had shifted with the larger Intrepid and later Charger achieving record sales.
When was the last Dodge Stratus made?
The Dodge Stratus continued to be sold through the 2006 model year.
What was the Plymouth version of the Dodge Stratus?
The Plymouth Breeze, introduced in early 1996, filled the entry-level compact slot that was left vacant when the dated Acclaim was discontinued in 1995. A sister car to the Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus, the Breeze was aimed at young couples moving up from smaller cars but still wanting a car with personality.

POWER TRAIN,AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-02-04
- VIN: 1B3EJ46X2SN
- Components: POWER TRAIN,AIR BAGS
- Summary: I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT WITH RESPECT TO A 1995 DODGE STRATUS. THE DODGE STRATUS IS EQUIPPED WITH A DEVICE WHICH I ASSUME IS TIED IN WITH THE CAR'S ELECTRONICS OR COMPUTER. THE PURPOSE OF THIS SPECIFIC DEVICE IS TO MONITOR THE OPERATION OF THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION SO THAT WHENEVER THE TRANSMISSION IS UNDER STRESS OR IS NOT OPERATING AS DESIGNED OR INTENDED (OR AT LEAST THE THE COMPUTER SURMISES THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT OPERATING NORMALLY OR UP TO STANDARD), THE COMPUTER WHENEVER THAT OCCURS AUTOMATICALLY DOWNSHIFTS THE DODGE STRATUS TO 2ND GEAR WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING OR NOTICE WHATSOEVER TO THE DRIVER AND THE DODGE REMAINS IN 2ND GEAR UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE DODGE IS BROUGHT TO A COMPLETE STOP AND UNTIL THE ENGINE IS COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. IF YOU THEN ALLOW THE DODGE ENGINE TO REMAIN OFF FOR 3 OR 4 MINUTES AND THEN TURN THE ENGINE BACK ON AGAIN, THE CAR WILL PERFORM NORMALLY AGAIN AND WITHOUT INCIDENT AT SPEEDS UP TO 40 OR 50 OR 60 MILES PER HOUR UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE COMPUTER, ONCE AGAIN, SUCCUMBS TO THE URGE TO DOWNSHIFT TO 2ND GEAR. AT THAT POINT, THE DRIVER FINDS HIMSELF IN 2ND GEAR AND WITH NO VIABLE ALTERNATIVE BUT TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE ONCE AGAIN. TO COMPREHEND WHAT THAT PREDICAMENT IS LIKE FROM THE DRIVER?S POINT OF VIEW, ONE HAS ONLY TO ENVISION YOURSELF ON THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE OR THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH DOZENS AND DOZENS OF 18 WHEELER TRUCKS ALL GOING 55AND 65 MILES AN HOUR WHEN, OUT OF THE BLUE, THE COMPUTER ON THE DODGE STRATUS DECIDES TO DOWNSHIFT TO 20 MILES AN HOUR AND THE NEAREST 18 WHEELER TRUCK IS ONLY 10 FEET BEHIND YOU AND DOING 60 MILES AN HOUR. IN THAT SCENARIO, THE POSSIBILITIES FOR A HORRIBLE AND CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT COSTING DOZENS OF LIVES IS APPARENT---ALL BECAUSE THE ONBOARD COMPUTER ON THE DODGE STRATUS DECIDED ON ITS OWN TO DOWNSHIFT TO 2ND GEAR. *AK

I bought a car with 89,000 miles on the odometer. It's the perfect car to hang out with 4 or 5 friends in, and it's been very comfortable. The heater works fast and the A/C is promising. I was only 16 when I bought it, so I punished the 2.5 engine pretty badly. Surprisingly, the first gear is quick for a heavy sedan, but it's not that sporty otherwise. It's important to remember that cars don't last forever, especially if you don't treat them well. I had to replace the water pump at 105,000 miles, which is understandable, and the front rotors were replaced too. Recently, I had to get a new torque converter and first gear replaced (I wonder why, maybe it was the frequent redlined RPMs). Overall, I've really enjoyed my car, but I've definitely put it through its paces and it's starting to show some wear and tear.

When I bought the car, it had a blown head gasket. However, the dealer replaced it with a new, redesigned head gasket to fix the old, faulty ones. Not a problem since! If your head gasket ever goes out, make sure you get the new, redesigned ones!

The first years of my ownership were great! I didn't encounter any problems that came out of pocket, except for the Catalytic converter. The gas mileage was terrific and my friends loved the roomy backseat. However, in the last 20k miles, I've had some trouble. The brakes have been eaten like candy, especially the front ones, and even though there was a recall, Dodge wouldn't fix them. I had to replace the head gasket and the oil has been leaking for the past 60k miles. There have been too many other problems to mention. Overall, I wouldn't buy another Chrysler or Dodge, unless it was a truck. Also, where is the battery placed? It's a terrible idea..

I drive a '95 Stratus with the 168hp 2.5L 24valve V6 under the hood. The car currently has 162k miles on it! It still purrs nicely. Although the transmission slips a little (which is expected after 162k), the only things I have replaced are the wheel bearings and ball joints all the way around, as many others have done. The water pump bearings are starting to go and there is a little valve lash on hot days, but so what! It sure beats having a monthly car payment to take care of the issues on your car.

I bought the car the 1st year it came out. Although it was attractive and cheap, I had some issues with it. Unfortunately, the designers seemed to have rushed the process and didn't pay enough attention to the engine. I had to replace the head gasket for $800. Would I buy another Stratus? Maybe. A couple of drinks might help me make the decision.

The vehicle has experienced several issues since the purchase date, including excessive brake wear, a problematic transmission, and an inconveniently located battery under the fender. Despite its attractive appearance, the vehicle's performance has been subpar.

Our car has had some issues, but we have been able to address them with confidence. We replaced the water pump in July shortly after purchasing it used in Feb. '01 with 94K miles. We also resolved an oil leak that occurred around the same time. Although we are unsure of the cause, the issue has not recurred. While my husband finds the placement of components under the hood to be awkward, we have been able to manage any necessary repairs. Recently, we noticed a rattling sound coming from the rear left tire, but we are confident that we can address this issue as well. Although the air conditioning struggles in hot weather and there are some minor cosmetic issues, such as a broken air vent, we are confident that we can continue to maintain this car. We are committed to addressing any issues that arise and keeping it in good condition.

You've had some very good first few years. However, the main issue seems to be with Dodge. It appears that they are either unwilling or unable to fix the problems.
